Diner Reviews
  • "Founding Farmer's is worth checking out. The food is pretty good. It will appeal to those trying to be more conscious about what they eat and where it comes from."

  • "Service seems to be the sore point at this location. Had the fish and chips and asked for extra tartar sauce when it was served to me. My server never brought it. This will be my last visit for a while."
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "Interesting assortment of dishes. Hard to make a decision. Large portions - came home with leftovers. Even though we made reservations, we were seated right away on a busy Saturday."

  • "We love the food here but the quality of the operation is really slipping. We had someone in our party with trouble hearing so when we made the reservation, we requested a table upstairs where it is a little quieter. I called the day of and reconfirmed that we wanted a table upstairs and was told that we would be accommodated. But when we arrived, on time, we were told if we "really" wanted a table upstairs we'd have to wait 20 minutes because nothing was available. So all the requests were fruitless. Then, when we came down in the elevator after dinner, the senior citizen in our party had to try to wedge her way out past all the high chairs and extra seats they had piled up right in front of the elevator and blocking the hallway. Really?"

  • "There were 5 of us and we celebrated a birthday on a Saturday evening. The food was wonderful. The service was excellent. If there was any complaint, the bar area was loud. But everything was worth it! Really good food."

  • "We waited 20 minutes after our reserved time, another 10 minutes at table for server to bring water and coffee. Food arrived but we had no silverware. Husband asked for eggs soft scrambled. They were overlooked. My pancake was good but not hot. Had to wait for refill on coffee. This was not what we expected. We have eaten here several times and been very happy with service and food. No manager around to ask "and how was everything?""

  • "Maybe I had higher expectations for the MoCo Founding Farmers, after enjoying the branch in the District. For whatever reason, the setting was suburban, the food ordinary, and nothing about the occasion was very memorable. The food choices were somewhat limited, and undistinguished. My order was heavy, with uncrisp fish and fries. To the restaurant's credit, items were identified that were appropriate for vegans and vegetarians. The meat loaf was quite good, and the prices were moderate. If I found myself in the neighborhood, I might go again, but I would not go out of my way to dine there."

  • "Founding farmers is consistently very good food for a reasonable price"

  • "Ate here 2 times on my last visit to the Rockville , Md area - breakfast and dinner. Both were great meals with wonderful service. My daughter, who lives in the area, loves this place too. Would recommend this to anyone in area. Prices are quite reasonable for this quality of food and service."

  • "Great for brunch, meeting friends and promoting green/organic/farm-to-table. Surprised that brunch did not have lunch type options. Breakfast - fried chicken/waffle, eggs benedict, hash brown scramble, and eggs/sausage - that our group had was scrumptious, fresh, and unique in veggie included with eggs."

  • "The food was very good, quirky, adventurous and plentiful. I got a sampler plate with several meats on it. All were tasty. I wasn't expecting a corn on the cob with the meal and it turned out to be not only the best thing on the plate, but the best version i had ever tasted. The server was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The decor is fine-- not something to make it a destination for just that, but enough out of the mainstream to be interesting. While not so loud that one couldn't carry on a conversation, it was necessary to speak in loud voices to do so. A little dampening of the noise level would go a long way to making it a more pleasant and relaxing experience."

  • "I love the food here, it's so unique and tastes amazing!!"

  • "Not a good night. I ordered meatloaf with brocollini and Mac and cheese. The meatloaf was so salty, it was inedible and had so much sage or thyme that I ended up only eating 3 bites out of the huge slice that I had. The brocollini was cold and the Mac and cheese gritty. My friend ordered the mini burgers and enjoyed them but her tomato soup was so salty that she could only eat one spoonful. At one point dinner a menu came flying over From balcony dining room knocking over both drinks that were on our table. The manager came by and said that sometimes kids dining upstairs throw things off of the balcony (really?) no effort to clean up the wet table and floor. Not a good night. I'll have to think twice about going back."

  • "Chef salad was not good; in fact, not really a salad; just a bunch of standard ingredients stacked together."
    Dined on 4/6/2014
  • "This was not my first trip to Founding Farmers, and as usual, I was not let down. I have now been for brunch, lunch, and dinner and have thoroughly enjoyed working my way through the menu. The extensive meatless menu juxtaposed with down home meat loaf and roast chicken dishes provides something for everyone (including myself and my husband!). Items that I wish to try soon are the begneits and one of the egg tarts. My only critique is that this type of farm to table dining has a sort of "health halo", and the food and Founding Farmers is not necessarily healthy--so beware! If you are not looking for a low calorie meal, no worries :)"

  • "My husband and I went there for breakfast for our anniversary ( the only free time on that day). We had not been there before but had heard good things about it. It exceeded our expectations by far! The service was terrific, the food just as good. The beignets were recommended byour server and were possibly the best part of the meal, they were delicious!!! We sat at our table thinking of upcoming occasions we have and who we would love to bring back with us! Thank you"

  • "My 3rd visit to the MoCo Founding Farmers & service continues to be an issue. Menu is broad so this is good place for a variety of eaters. We were a party of 3 and 1 of us went to the restroom when we got to the table. The server appeared immediatley & asked for our drink order. Then we waited. Server came back & took the drink order. Then we waited. Finally got our beers & placed an order for 2 starters, 2 salads & 3 entrees. Then we waited. Out comes 1(cooked) appetizer. Within 5 minutes we received the 2 salads. Asked about the other appetizer (raw vegetables) that showed up with our 3 entrees. I was still eating my salad & they tried to take the plate from me. Really? Food was fine but I was in & out in an hour. Why the rush?"

  • "Founding Farmers is a frequent stop for me when traveling to/from Washington D.C. The food is always so fresh and delicious and I find the atmosphere to be relaxing and a bit whimsical. They have a great selection of drinks, salads, appetizers, small plates, and entrees. This time around, I had the Corn Chowder and was very impressed. It was the perfect combination of sweetness and spice. Looking forward to my next visit!"

  • "Love this place. Everything about our experience was wonderful. Try the cocktails!"
    Dined on 4/6/2014
  • "Dined here with my family. When I asked for a signature Manhattan cocktail "on the rocks" I was informed that it is served straight up. So I ordered a Manhattan with Makers Mark on the rocks and paid a $1 extra for the privilege of having the drink the way I wanted it. Customer service, not so much. The drinks took a long time to come followed almost immediately by the salads two of us had ordered but before the two appetizers we had also ordered. The server offered to take the salads back but then what? We declined. The main courses were fine but nothing to write home about. Overall a disappointing evening and I won't hurry back if ever."

  • "Founding Farmers is always a great place to eat. One of my favorite restaurants. This was my first time having brunch there, and I was not disappointed. It was great. Will definitely be going back for brunch in addition to lunch/dinner."

  • "Overall good. Disappointed in the meatloaf-tasted like black pepper and was dry. Surprising given it was a signature dish. Maybe the pepper shaker broke into the batch. Rest of the food good. (Pot roast, salmon plank, fish and chips, crispy shrimp). Told the waitress about the meatloaf, but nothing was done... Also the size of the desserts should be disclosed, we certainly didn't need five very large desserts! All but one dessert was a hit. We had apple pie, cheesecake, red velvet, carrot cake and chocolate mousse cake - the chocolate mousse cake tasted like cardboard/fake cake,( the person wouldn't order that again.) Thank you for the opportunity to review."

  • "We dined at Founding Farmers with another couple and had a fantastic dinner. Appetizers, drinks, and main courses were all wonderful. I highly recommend this restaurant. Great atmosphere, menu, and service"

  • "The vegan and vegetarian menu is very limited. Their meatless meatloaf was extremely salty."

  • "We had dinner at Founding Farmers on Sunday evening for the first time. We not only enjoyed our family time together, but the food was delicious from start to end. I think the apple pie was the best I've ever had. Kudos to the chef and the wait staff. We will definintely be back with friends and family."
    Dined on 4/6/2014
  • "I've eaten at both FF's in Rockville and Downtown and the food is always creative and good. The acoustics aren't great. Big open room and when it's full, you really need to raise your voice to speak to your friends."
    Dined on 4/6/2014
  • "I had been to Founding Farmers for lunch and was curious to see what the dinner menu was like only to find that it's the same for lunch and dinner. The wings appetizer was nice, a perfect mix of sweet and salty and the wings were tender. I had the skirt steak which was cooked perfectly rare. But, the showstopper for me was the dessert of beignets with three sauces. Incredible cream puffs (without cream filling), they tasted just as good without the sauces, but my favorite sauce was the caramel though the chocolate and the strawberry sauces were fine. Our server, Mak, was professional and friendly. Anxious to try this place for weekend breakfast/brunch (more beignets?!)."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Can we say amazing!!? Every part about this dinner was great! The atmosphere is hip and the food is fabulous! The service is great and everyone in my party ate every piece of food possible off of our plates! I'd love to come back and try other dishes - it all sounds divine!"
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "Love all the menu options!!! Had a great dining experience!"
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "The beignets were awesome as usual! The garden vegetable egg entree I ordered was not very memorable, will order something else next time like the flannel hash or French toast. Ran out of water on our table at some point, but it was during a busy time of the lunch hour. Overall a great restaurant that our friends really enjoyed being introduced to. The hostesses also found us a good booth for our group that included children."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Food was delicious. Menu is expansive and has something for everyone, including my picky kids. The service, however, was only fair. Our waiter, Vince, was super nice and very attentive, but my meal came out cold and the pasta was far too al dente. I returned the dish, but by the time a new one was served the rest of my part was finished. And, when the check came I was surprised I was still charged for my dish."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "The food here is good, although some of the dishes are presented better at the DC location (e.g., stuffed French toast). The Fried Chicken Salad was overdressed, which made for soggy greens, and the chicken was not as nice this time as it was the last. Perhaps most dismaying are the drinks. On previous visits, we've had coffee, iced tea or alcohol, so this was our first foray into soda. We were SHOCKED to learn they don't serve fountain drinks, but instead serve soda by the can at $3.00 each. Yikes!? In this era of free refills being the norm, I am very surprised. My daughter (age 6) ordered Sprite, which they don't have, so they recommended a lemon-lime soda instead, which was $5.00 (price not conveyed until the bill!)."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Given the crowds at the DC location, glad to have this expansion to get the Founding Famers fix someplace else. Though Potomac Park faux urban is not quite downtown DC."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "We had a great Time. Really nice waitress. Always enjoy going there! Friencly"
    Dined on 4/3/2014
  • "Lots of choices for everyone, vegan, vegetarian, meat lovers, those with a sweet tooth etc. But beware, everything deep fried now uses beef oil, not vegeatble oil and they only have one fryer. This means chips, fries, fried green tomatoes, wontons are made with beef fat. Yuch."
    Dined on 4/3/2014
  • "This is a restaurant that deserves your business any time of day. Excellent variety of small and large plate selections. Don't forget to try the fried green tomatoes."
    Dined on 4/3/2014
  • "I can understand waiting a few minutes past a reservation, but when they see you have an elderly lady with a cane in your party, combined with a poor waiting area that is loud without seats, hearing "just 5 or 10 more minutes" for a half hour is just plain horrible service. 5 to 10 minutes means the people that have your table have requested their check and should be leaving soon, this was obviously not true and just used to give us false hope so as to not walk out. When we kept seeing group after group that came in after us get seated before us, the hostesses were very happy with themselves to keep telling me "the system shows they checked in before you", as if they thought that was either believable or an acceptable response."
    Dined on 4/3/2014
  • "This my second time coming here for brunch. This time I expressly asked for hot waffles and they still came out barely warm. Also serving warm syrup would help as well."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "This was our first time at this location. The food was as great as we remembered fro the DC location. Our table was directly under an A/C vent, and they were pretty accommodating with moving. Our waiter was well meaning, but forgetful, so we had to ask for everything several times... But the food more than made up for any other shortfalls! The homemade potato chips are a must, and beignes are pure heaven..."
