  • Entertainment: The bar at Founding Farmers is a truly unique and innovative experience, with true mixologists specially trained in 'bar-chefing'. The bar menu harkens back to the pre-Prohibition era with handcrafted cocktails that use juices and mixers prepared by hand as well as Fountain Sodas and Phosphates, prepared to order. Founding Farmers has been recognized by the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington for two consecutive years, 2010 and 2011, as having one of the area's best beverage/mixology programs and received the top prize for Best Bar/Beverage Program in the group's 2011 RAMMY Awards.
  • Special Events & Promotions: MoCo's Founding Farmers includes is a second floor mezzanine level that is ideal for special gatherings, business meeting, parties or corporate events any time of day, for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The mezzanine can accommodate up to 75 guests comfortably seated for dinner, or up to 100 guests for a standing reception. The full restaurant is also available for buyouts.

MoCo's Founding Farmers is the newest iteration of Founding Farmers, one of the most popular restaurants in the U.S. With a fresh, seasonal menu of farmhouse favorites and new American traditional dishes, our menus of true food and drink offer something for everyone, in a modern and eco-friendly urban farmhouse setting.

The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.

In addition to serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, MoCo's Founding Farmers hosts a unique “Afternoon Social,” providing a modern afternoon break for area entrepreneurs looking for a respite from coffee houses, local mom groups with toddlers in tow and retirees craving a place to socialize and a bite to eat. The Afternoon Social menu features tea sandwiches, scones, tea, cocktails, cookies and other desserts.

  • "My wife and I had a "date night" that our three year old ended up crashing - and it was just as fun as we had hoped. The food was wonderful, the service was good and the mood was just right. Try the chicken wings on the app menu! So much good stuff kept coming out that looked like we needed to try it - we came back five days later for my MIL's 60th bday. A great experience that I hope to three-peat soon."

  • "Food was just okay, however services was terrible! First the server forgot a hot chocolate, then cream for the coffee and finally it took over 10 minutes to track someone down for syrup despite the fact that three people needed it, as we ordered pancakes, French toast and chicken and waffles. I hope you like extremely slow service and cold food if you go here."

  • "I really enjoy the food and service at Founding Farmers however, if you have a 7:15 reservation (and your party arrives between 6:55 & 7:10), it's ridiculous to be seated at 7:40. The DC location is even worse. The food, beverages and service is pretty good but, they need to do a better job at managing their reservations. I never have this problem with other restaurants."

  • "We made reservations for Saturday dinner at Founding Farmers. The greeter was friendly, handed us off to a host who showed us to a very undesirable table next to the noisy bar even though we requested a table upstairs. Saying this we were shown to a table upstairs. The menu seems to offer some of everything, so it was hard to pinpoint the restaurant's strong suit. There's also a plethora of speciality drinks with cute names -- I order one which seemed very watered down. The shrimp and grits, one of the specialities, was bland but helped by salt and pepper. The trout ordered by my husband was over cooked but edible; biscuits dry and tasteless. This restaurant feels like it was run by amateurs with no adults present."

  • "I met a few friends for brunch here and although we didn't actually order from the brunch menu, the food was very good and we really enjoyed ourselves! I'm glad we made a reservation for 10am because shortly after we got there, a line started forming. The menu has a lot of interesting options and. I'd like to go back and try some other items. Definitely recommended!"

  • "My previous experience at Founding Farmer's was excellent, but this trip soured that great memory. Our reservation was for 7 and we were not seated until 7:30. There were others dealing with the same issue. If everything else went well, I would typically get over a late seating. However, had to send my filet back because it was overcooked. They did comp my glass of cabernet for the trouble, which of course I appreciated. Overall....I felt let down.....because I really loved this place on my first visit. I guess we all have our bad days."

  • "We were repeat diners at Founding Farmers due to good food and atmosphere. Dining here last Saturday evening, however, was disappointing. The food and drinks were okay but they were overbooked and unable to manage the number of people. We had a 6:30 reservation for which we arrived at 6:20. After entering through their revolving door, we were dangerously met with a wall of ~ 25 people standing in front of the reservations counter with no room to enter the foyer and a spinning door from people entering behind us. My husband was hit hard in the back with the revolving door and was still sore the next day. This is a very dangerous configuration. All staff overwhelmed, rushed, and they were out of dishes already- not returning soon."

  • "I couldn't tell whether there are insufficient wait-staff for the number of diners or the waitstaff are just slow. The food, when it arrived, was good. But what would otherwise have been a good dinner was overwhelmed by the noise level. The tables are crowded together, the surfaces are highly reflective and in addition to the noise from diners shouting to their table-mates to be heard, there is music (or what passes for music) thumping its bass in the background. We won't return."

Its a cool place, water in milk bottle, check in small mail box-Farmers Market goes out of their way to make you know the ingredients are fresh off the farm, great chefs, and an enjoyable experience to sit for interactive conversation with friends and family."

  • "The atmosphere is inviting (stylish "homey-ness"/farm-to-table), it's best reserved for anyone looking for fattening food masked as gourmet--fancy comfort food with a big price tag. The menu is intriguing but no descriptions, which made ordering labored; we had many questions needing answering (ingredients, what's served with the main dish, etc). Presentation of the food was lovely, but I wasn't wowed by anything in particular, and most was too fried or over-designed. The veggie meatloaf was not good, and had a uniform uninspired flavor. The biscuits were good, but its accompanying savory chutney (?) was just odd. The beignets were trumped up, but were actually mediocre. Overall, the place was fine, but not as amazing as it's trying to be."

  • "We were there on a Tuesday night, the place was packed. It was noisy. At the bar while I waited for my date, the bartender was quick and got me one of the best drinks I've ever had. But when my date showed up he was nowhere to be found. As my reservation time approached the hostess said they'd come find me when the table was ready. Twenty minutes later I went to find them. We were seated right away with apologies for the misunderstanding. At the table as at the bar, initial service was quick and then after that it got much slower, but was always professional. Food was good, it wasn't as great as the drinks."

  • "My fifth meal at Founding Farmer's over a nine-day period proved to be by far the best. Although I'd met friends there for dinner the night before, the following night I was there with my family. Our food choices included the delicious chicken wing appetizers, which featured a tantalizing sauce...they were literally finger-licking good. I restrained myself after eating two despite the temptation of the plate before me. My vanilla soda was delicious as always. My plank salmon was delicious, and the green beans were perfectly done. Two of my dining companions enjoyed the cranberry and brie turkeyless burger. One loved her meal, the other compared it to a veggie burger on a previous menu and was dissatisfied. Good food well prepared."

  • "A nice local restaurant. I ordered the fish and chips. It arrived warm and the chips were a little soggy. Old Bay spice was added to the fish which impaired rather than enhanced the flavor. I was going to send it back but decided I didn't want my friend to eat while I just sat there waiting for my food. Our server was good and very helpful when my friend asked about Gluten-free items on the menu. I may return but I would definitely order something different."

  • "Fried Green Tomatoes are not vegetarian -- fried in animal fat. Curious! We were upstairs which was clearly being used as an office/meeting for management but at least it was quieter. Our server seems significantly clueless, forgetting an appetizer order, a promised refill of an iced tea. Three apologies later from various team members but too late in the meal to follow up on the appetizer. No other offer was presented to us. Prices should come down about $2-3 per dish to make up for the consistently inconsistent service and noise."

  • "There were a lot of problems during our dinner here. They seemed to be out of a lot of dishes; everyone at my table tried ordering something that they were out of, and it was frustrating to hear "we are out of that" over and over. When my friend tried to order the flank steak (which was listed on the menu), they told us that they don't even have that item anymore. At some point after we'd finished our appetizers someone came out to let my husband know that they were out of the dish he'd ordered, and that he had to choose something else. At the end of the meal, he was charged for both entrees -- the one he actually ate, and the one that they were out of. When our entrees finally came out, my friend's steak and vegetables were very cold."

  • "I've ususally been very happy with brunch at Founding Fathers. This past Saturday was an exception. I'd hoped to have blueberry pancakes which have been very good in the past. The griddle was broken so pancakes were not available to me. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich instead. The mix of cheeses was very tastey, but the bread was *way too thick*! Way too thick. Please consider slicing your bread so it's not so thick. The thick bread was both too filling and also distracting from the cheese."

  • "The physical properties of the room seem to amplify noise. When busy (as it was during our visit) it is VERY LOUD. Our server was high energy. Too much so. I think he had the best intentions, but was much too long-winded / talkative, especially when delivering the "canned" speech given to first-time patrons. Some of the food (like the basic french toast) was amazing/delicious. The eggs on two of the plates we ordered had a very strong metallic taste and were virtually inedible. A member of our party has a nut allergy. She had an allergic reaction to the pink peppercorns (turns out they're a part of the cashew family) in the dish she ordered. I would expect the restaurant to know this. The sweet tea wasn't to my liking. The OJ was tasty."

  • "The highlight of my experience at Founding Farmers was breakfast, which was outstanding! I enjoyed my hot buttermilk biscuit and my dining companion said the English muffin was outstanding. I enjoyed my bacon and my friend liked the chicken sausage very much. We both had eggs, and leek hash browns, and the food was very good. Although the construction is still ongoing outside, the noise was not nearly as bad as it was earlier in the week. Service was a bit slow, we had to ask the hostess to find our waitress, but she was very pleasant when she was there. Overall, the standout of the morning was the food which was delicious."

  • "My boyfriend and I decided to go to Founding Fathers for dinner last minute on Thursday afternoon. As always, I checked Open Table and found an available 7:15 pm slot which was perfect. We arrived to find the new parking garage open so parking is now super convenient. We were seating immediately and started with the table biscuits and each ordered an El Presidente, my favorite cocktail. The bread was delivered promptly and was served with great dipping options. It was amazing and incredibly fresh; would definitely order again. For dinner my SO had the prime rib with potatoes and asparagus and I had the lobster mac and cheese. The food was absolutely amazing! Both entrees were cooked to perfection and made dinner a memorable occasion!"

  • "The food at Founding Farmers is quite good, but the slow service and high noise level detracts from the experience. It is nearly impossible to have a conversation with others at your table, and both times I have dined here we have waited over 30 minutes after we were seated before our waiter/waitress stopped by the table to take our order. I very much like the concept of this restaurant, but would be very hesitant to return for another meal. Also, carefully review your check - we were offered an order of biscuits "on the house" because of the slow service, and then were charged for them, as well as an appetizer we had ordered which came out with our check. There is potential here, but lots of quirks that still need to be worked out."

  • "The place was noisy - very noisy. We did not get our appetizer and it took forever to get our food and drinks. People who came in after we did were served timely, but we seemed to have been overlooked. We could not even spot our waiter to ask. Someone else served our meal. My date's pot roast was not hot, but alright. My hamburger was ok, but the bottom bun was so wet from the potato salad, it was useless. Finally the waiter came to see if our food was ok and realized we did not get our first course. It was as if it was not big deal - haha it happens. Not a local favorite."
