  • Public Transit: There are two Metro stops within 3 blocks of the restaurant, Orange/Blue lines at Farragut West or Foggy Bottom/GWU. The red DC Circulator bus Georgetown/Union Station line stops on Pennsylvania Ave. at 21st street, as well as on K Street and on 19th, all just one block away.

  • "I have been many times to Founding Farmers and recommend it, but not without a reservation and not without a note about the noise level. The food is excellent and creative and always interesting and of great quality for the price, but do not hit the restaurant without a reservation as you will be in a crowd waiting. The bar dominates the downstairs and have very unique and creative drinks. I recommend requesting a table upstairs as it is a little less deafening and a little less busy. Founding Farmers in DC does not have many direct competitors as it offers a fairly unique dining experience."

My aunt from New York City was in town last minute, and we were able to secure a lunch reservation at one of my all-time favorite restaurants. I helped to build the kitchen years ago as a Project Manager, and the restaurant never fails to shine in all that you do! Everyone in the party - including many of my family who had never been to the restaurant - were as impressed as I've always been with the restaurant. The food was spectacular, the server (Liz) was one of the best I've had, not just at your restaurant, but in DC - and the ambience was great as usual. Thank you for another amazing meal! I'll be back again soon."

I had my last bite in my mouth and he immediately took our plates away! He also brought the check right after our meal and didn't ask us if we like to have any deserts."

  • "I am so glad I found this place! We had a reservation, but arrived 30 min early and they were very willing to accommodate. Our server was extrememly friendly and knowledgable providing background on the restaurant and also making several recommendations for drinks and food. She was was funny and kind - hard to find! Her recommendations were spot on, and unlike some servers, she did not recommend the most expensive bottle of wine or dinner choice. The wine was delectable and the steak & enchiladas I cannot even describe - PHENOMENAL! Mix of flavors is unbelievable. I was only in town for work, but recommended it to all of my collegues. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant when I return to DC!"

It is normally the server that makes the difference in the experience and this time it was missing. Though efficient he just did not have the passion for what makes this restaurant unique. This particular visit, honored reservation (requesting booth for privacy) so didn't have to expend extra time (in front of my client) asking that be honored -- took us straight to table -- Kudos!! Both our main course: planked Salmon, a favorite of mine, was excellent. Again, this being my guests 1st time, the only downer was the "bacon lollies" which note came out within seconds of placing -- which might explain why didn't pass as my favorite this time (almost cold not good). Told him this was unusual and shouldn't rule out, try again on next visit. Again, I am a regular for many reasons. Will come back but suggest better MGMT CK to better ensure QA/QC as see inconsistent."

  • "I've had good experiences here in the past but seems that service is declining as the restaurant has become increasingly popular. We were seated at 1:15 for a 1pm. Despite having a reservation, we were seated at a long table with other diners rather than having a private Table. Completely ridiculous, why even bother making a reservation? 2 out of four entrees ordered left Much to be desired. Stay away from the shrimp Louie Cobb!!! There were a total of three Small shrimp on a huge pile of lettuce, potato, and unripened avocado. My friend's burger looked as if it had recently come out of a freezer. Our waiter was pretty Inattentive- didn't even refill out water. FF- I expected more from you!!"

  • "I dined with my husband and children (7 & 10). Each of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We started with fried green tomatoes and ranch pop corn. The goat cheese dip was fantastic with the tomatoes, my husband loved the green goddess. We shared the wedge with blue cheese, whole family enjoyed. I had butternut squash ravioli, husband-meatloaf, son- Yankee pot roast. We passed all of the dishes and all were Delish. They accommodated my daughter with homemade pasta with Parmesan- she was thrilled. We ended the meal with Red Velvet Cake, the best I have ever had. Huge slice, not too sweet. We were also happy with their Extensive & interesting cocktail menu & very nice wine selection. Will go back next time we are in town!"

  • "We visited DC for a long July 4 weekend, and I made a reservation here a month before our visit. It is an incredibly busy place, and even though we still had reservations, we had to wait 10 minutes or so for our table. I suspect that this was due to the July 4 weekends crowds in DC. The food was delicious and the service was excellent, considering how busy the place was on our visit. I had the Wood-Planked Salmon Entree, which was very good and came with a generous amount of fresh green beans and broccolini. My husband's July 4 weekend special (small portion of bbq ribs, small chili dog, and two small slider burgers with a delicious onion relish, fries) was very good as well. We enjoy the farm to table efforts and they do a great job!"

  • "First of all, make sure you book through Open Table because this is one of the most popular breakfast places in DC. No reservation and the breakfast wait can be up to 90 minutes. However the food is worth it. The eggs are fresh and organic and served in oversized portions accompanied by shredded leek hash browns, choice of toasted bread and choice of meat. The stuffed french toast is decadent: stuffed with vanilla pastry cream and served with maple cinnamon syrup. Of course it is all enhanced with a spicy Bloody Mary starter! Coffee is strong and delicious and there is no pressure from the wait staff to hurry you along. Highly recommendable --great service and great atmosphere"

  • "We had a party of 10 for brunch. We had a reservation but still had to wait about 15 minutes for our table, hence the 4 stars on service instead of 5. Everything else was a great experience. Our waiter was helpful and efficient, the food was delicious and even though the restaurant was very crowded we had no problem hearing the conversations at our table. Loved it and will plan to go back!"

  • "This was our 2nd visit to Founding Farmers. We would have gone more, but have had trouble getting reservations. The food is wonderful and creative. The adults in our party are vegetarians, but we had our 2 young grandchildren who eat meat if it is local, no antibiotics, and humanely raised. They were elated to be able to get hot-dogs with a side salad. All of the food items and beer were excellent. It is noisy, but that wouldn't keep us from going back."

  • "The food was great, mostly simple comfort food but very, very good and high quality. It had a very hipster-eske vibe. The waitress was great as well. The only downside was that one of our friends got there 15 minutes after our reservation and we then had to wait an additional 30 minutes to be seated. Not entirely the resturaunts' fault, it was just frustrating since we did make a reservation to avoid that type of problem."

  • "After a decent brunch several months ago, my boyfriend and I decided to return to Founding Farmers on July 4. Although our food took forever to appear, we patiently waited. During that period of waiting for our waffles (waffles and strawberries for me & waffles and chicken for my bf), we overheard several customers asking servers to exchange their waffle for a less burnt waffle. I assumed these people were being extra picky and rude until we received our waffles. They were extremely hard and brown. We ate our waffles with the conclusion that we wouldn't be back."

  • "We were visiting our daughter who lives in DC and had eaten here once before. She did not oversell it in the least! Great vibe and open airy dining room (we ate upstairs). The steak sandwich with fried onions was amazing and didn't even need the au jus sauce that came with it. Very tasty and quickly shared at our table. The real closer is the chocolate mousse bucket for two...our family of FOUR could barely finish this best in class dessert, with fresh whipped cream and drizzled caramel on top. Great service as well. I will definitely re-visit on future business and family trips!"

  • "My wife and I thought of waiting out the crowds after the fireworks at this place. She really wanted to have the "dogs" on the menu only to be disappointed when told that they ran out of the dogs. Really? On the 4th? I think I was more let down that she was, despite me being a vegetarian. So she asked for the Chicken and Waffles, of which they said they ran out of Waffles. Seriously? For a restaurant that touts making everything to order, is it that difficult to make waffle-batter? Well my wife ordered the Shrimp Buccatini, which she loved. I ordered the TurkeyLESS burger, but first got a regular turkey burger. I still don't remember how I managed to control my temper at that point. Yes, and the ever-missing server who was hardly available."
