Diner Reviews
  • "Enjoyed a late bite after theatre at the Kennedy Center. Good food, great service, fun time. Will return."

  • "Food was great. Enjoyed the variety of the foods. We dined with 4 of our kids and felt like both dessert and specialty drinks were pushed by the wait staff, which does not always help when you are dining with a family. Also, our food did not all come out at the same time. But I would still go back, I thought the combination of foods and the amount of care into preparation , would encourage me to go back."

  • "We had been given a fervent recommendation to try Founding Farmers but had no idea we'd be walking into an institution! This feels, especially given its large, mutli-level Washington DC location, like the farm-to-table lobby center - literature about humane meat production and sustainable farming in the (packed but efficiently moving) waiting area and a very thoroughly sourced menu of delicious farm-to-table items. Delicious food, superb service and fascinating dining experience."

  • "If you haven't been to Founding Farmers, it must go on your to-go list! It's great food, great pricing, great scene...favorite place in DC!"

  • "Great food but getting a reservation is difficult and does not mean you won't have to wait when you get there."

  • "A great restaurant should be busy whenever they're open, and, if they're really great, they can be open all the time. Founding Farmers serves breakfast, too, so that tells me something. We were 4 parents with 4 kids under 12, and a college student, but our excellent server, Kali, treated us fairly and democratically (as befitting the neighborhood). We ate and drank like royalty, though. They didn't need to tell us that everything was house-made - the quality was apparent. Two thumbs up! "

  • "Always enjoy going here. Service is always good and I love the food. "

  • "The food served at Founding Famers is absolutely delicious, however, the same quality was lacking within the service. It took a long time to be seated even with a reservation and our meal was very slowly delivered. It was worth the wait though-the food is outstanding as always!"

  • "It was a great experience and will be remembered as one of the highlights of our Washington trip. We went with two other couples and everyone's meal was delicious. Well done."

  • "I have had lunch here several time. I have also had dinner here vseveral time (there is no category for dinner in # 2). One major problem is getting a seat- THis place is always very booked. Since I cannot always plan so very far ahead, my options are some time limited. On all ocassions, I have found the food to be on hte upper side of more than very good. I have also recomended others to come to this reseaurant."

  • "Continues to be our favorite DC place to bring friends! The fried green tomatoes and speciality cocktails are out of this world!"

  • "My husband tried the Bloody Mary, he thought it tasted like a lot of chili powder and not much else. Our waiter was helpful and attentive. We ordered Fried Green Tomatoes as an appetizer, perfectly crunchy cornmeal breading that was just right, not too thick. We were served two 'sauces' both good but different: herbed goat cheese and green goddess dip. For lunch, I had the fish and chips. The breading was light and so was the fish- very nicely done with a tasty tartar sauce. The chips, I'm not much for these chips. My husband had the chicken and waffles. The chicken was dry, not especially flavorful, waffles light and fluffy. Macaroni and cheese was amazing! Overall, good but overrated. Don't expect an early seating if it's busy. "

  • "We had a great dinner on Saturday April,12 2014. I had the yankee pot roast and my wife had the fried chicken and waffles. Both were excellent and I would recommend this place to anyone dining in D.C. "

  • "When you go to FF, you're there for the tasty, down-home inspired food. Most portions are large. Food arrives quickly. It's an efficient dining experience (when you have reservations). MUST have reservations or expect a long wait. MUST have all of your party present to be seated. Not a leisurely dining spot....but food is consistently good and prices are reasonable."

  • "I took my cousin from out of town here for dinner, we had a great experience! I was very happy I made reservations early, this place fills up fast, and we tried so many things. I would definitely reccommend to anyone that hasn't tried this place before! "

  • "The food is fabulous and our waitress was incredible. We had a reservation and were greeted by a total snob at the front desk when we checked in. She was just nasty. My party of thee was seated at the end of a group table. The first family to join us at the table had a daughter and infant. The mother breast fed the infant through our meal. Lovely just lovely. The second family had children that went wild and were not well behaved. The restaurant was so noisy. This was my second visit to the restaurant and I will probably give it one more try but will refuse a group table. Also if that snot at the front desk is as nasty the next time as she was last time I will ask to see a manager. "

  • "We were first timers and had a great meal and experience here. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful in ordering drinks. Were looking for a romantic evening but this was not the place for that... however, we had a great evening and if ever in DC again would definitely return. The desserts were to die for...have to save room for them. "

  • "Disappointed to give a poor review as we had been very much looking forward to this restaurant and appreciate its positive agenda. Food is good but not memorable or outstanding. Service was disappointing - took more than 10 minutes for staff to tell us that wine we ordered was not available nor did they have anything similar. As such, it was some 30 min after we sat down that I finally got a drink. Restaurant should keep staff fully appraised of any menu items not available. Waiter didn't check the order so one of our entrees was considerably delayed. Waiter abruptly gave us the check when we were halfway through dessert and had not requested it.. We felt very unwelcome. Portion sizes too large. We will not return"

  • "Founding Farmers is a great spot for food and drinks in a great location. One of my favorite DC spots. Must gets are the chicken and waffles, pot pie and any of the burgers but everything thing on the menu is amazing. You must finish with beignets and a special off the menu drink…just tell bartender/mixoligist things you like and they will make a drink for you. Always fun."

  • "After visiting area colleges we had a fun, relaxing dinner. Overall the food was good. Shrimp and grits were too heavily sauced. For a restaurant that prides itself on farm to table, you are late to the gluten free scene. Should think of offering gluten free options and bread."

  • "I LOVE Founding Farmers. It's a favorite of mine in DC. I took my parents (who were visiting from Atlanta) and they LOVED it. They were impressed by the energy, the selection of food, the prices, and of course the TASTE. The food (pretty much anything on their menu) is just great."

  • "This was a find. Read positive reviews online and reserved an 8:30pm time slot two days prior to visit. Family of four we went on a Monday Night and the place was packed. Very creative menu with so many options took a while to choose. Our table had an assortment of food - burgers, bread, fish, pasta, vegan and two desserts - it was all good. The server was great - easy going with a professional demeanor and can do attitude. Great place would go again and recommend to anyone."

  • "Great food but wished they had a better way of opening for brunch on the weekend. We were in a very large group of 8:45am reservations on a Saturday waiting for the doors to open at 9am. There has to be a better way to start the morning... perhaps have several hostesses to report to once the doors opened and the crowd all tried to head for the front desk. Once we were seated, the food and service was good."

  • "Founding Farmers brunch is INSANE! So, so, GOOD. Drink prices are expensive, but we opted for one of their house-made sodas (it was delicious and cheap!) and water to keep costs down. Turns out that wasn't really necessary b/c the dishes themselves were reasonably priced and outstanding. Do yourself a favor & get the chicken & waffles. Just do it. Also recommend exploring their smaller or shared plates. We had the banana fluffer nutters, so much fun & really good. I knew brunch would be crowded, so I made reservations about a week before, and had plenty of options. Come Sunday morning, the place was slammed. The couple before us was told the wait was 1.5hrs, yikes! But with the res we were seated in a couple mins. Absolutely recommend!"

  • "We were in DC to see grandchildren at GW and we stayed in a hotel across the street. This restaurant was only close but also very good! Nice staff and since they make everything fresh, it was great to have light fares. Maryland crab cakes were wonderful!"

  • "I had dined here in the past and thought that this would be a great place for my boyfriend and I to have a date night while we visited DC for the weekend. Everything about our experience was excellent EXCEPT that once we arrived for our reservation at 9:45pm we were made to wait until 10:15pm to be seated. This irked me a little bit because, having a reservation, one would assume that you would be seated at your reservation time. In this case there was no "open table" waiting for us when we arrived. Once seated the service, food, and experience was exceptional."

  • "My husband and I were celebrating our 17th year anniversary on Sunday. We had a great time at your restaurant. We were seated immediately upon arrival."

  • "My friends and I have been wanting to visit Founding Farmers for ages and we finally did so last weekend. It did not disappoint! There is so much to choose from on the menu and everything looks so amazing! We wish we had gotten there a tad earlier because the breakfast menu looks incredible (seems like it ends by 2 pm on Sundays). We had the fried green tomatoes, chicken and waffles platter and the beignets- all were absolutely delicious and came in proper portions. Founding Farmers also has a unique drink menu so ensure you experience Founding Farmers from the very first sip to the last bite. We had so much fun and we highly recommended this DC treasure."

  • "On the plus side, Ben, our waiter, was very attentive and friendly. On the minus side, the green beans were undercooked."

  • "The hostess checked us in 20 min early for our reservation and then forgot about us and seated everyone without reservations before us. Never apologized and wouldn't have noticed except we asked. All three hostess girls we not friendly or helpful or even nice. Our waitress was very good and helped to save the experience."

  • "Nice restaurant. I was there for breakfast on a Sunday, during Cherry Blossom season, so needless to say it was crowded. I had a reservation I was late for and that was not a big deal. We were seated pretty quickly considering the line for those without a reservation. Food was good, and fresh. Well prepared. It was breakfast, so I can't say it was the best meal I ever had but I would definitely come back for lunch or dinner. All ingredients are natural and made from scratch. Our waiter got sidetracked and did not attend to us much but we didn't really need that anyway. Thumbs up! Make a reservation, don't be late!"

  • "Very busy. You must have a reservation. This place is very popular. I had heard good things about it and that's why I went there. They couldn't change my reservation from four to six with a days notice. That was a bummer. When you arrive the staff was very friendly. The service was fast for how busy they are. The restaurant looks great. For the four of us to eat on a Sunday afternoon it came to $240. The food was good. Just not great like I had hoped for"

  • "Very good farm fresh food. Great waiter after a lousy checking experience. Had lots of great sandwiches and hot dogs. The Mac and cheese expert cleaned his plate. We had beignets for dessert and fought over them. Worth the splurge!"
