  • "Finally got to try this DC hot-spot. Loved the food and will certainly be back. Skillet cornbread was a yummy treat and they even managed to jazz up a basic salad."

  • "Had reservation for 8:15p on Monday night. Got there at 8:00- was told table seating will be right at 8:15. 45 minutes late (at 9pm) the table is finally ready. Our party goes up the stairs to the table and it is not even bussed or cleaned. We stand for a bit more in heavy foot traffic. Finally seated the bread comes and the top plate is clean but the other four are all dirty... I am talking still with food on them! Summary- slow service, not apologetic and then marginal food."

  • "Most of the time, the experience is excellent. It's our go-to dining experience for guests, family, and special occasions. On this visit, after touting FF to guests, it was honestly mediocre at BEST... VERY disappointing when the Mac-N-Cheese is the best part of several meals on a $200 check! Also, I lost count of how many times bus staff reached over party members to grab plates without confirming whether we were done with it (took a child's plate with food on it, still), and twice they tried to take a beer that was half full or more, AGAIN, WITHOUT ASKING! Seems to have changed significantly for the worst in the past 6 months. Not worth the money right now."

  • "I have never been able to catezgorize a restaurant as a must eat until now, do not walk, do not run, but find a cab and speed to this restaurant! The service exceeds a 5 star level, the food is perfection, you will need a reservation ( open table saved us a 2 hour wait list ) and you must save room for dessert. I travel weekly, I find desserts too complex or expensive, but here a 20 minute forewarned wait for what I would call the perfect dessert was the best decision I've ever made in my life. I chose to top it off with a vanilla milk shake, again a wise decision. After finding myself over stuffed I was happy to learn they will package both to go to your hotel. Don't hesitate, I am picky, and you need to jump at a chance to eat here!"

  • "I accidentally arrived 30 minutes late for my reservation (I thought it was at 8:00 but it was actually 7:30). The hostesses said they would have to honor those with reservations first but my party would be placed above the normal walk-ins. We were seated within 15 minutes, had EXCELLENT service and delicious food. Our waitress even told us about a special cocktail that wasn't on the menu. This is my 4th or 5th time here in the last year and it certainly won't be the last!"

  • "Founding Farmers lives up to the hype! Amazing food, great ambiance! Would reccommend to everyone!"

  • "The food is amazing. It was hard choosing because everything read well on the menu and then you would see the servers walk by with different dishes."

  • "My friend and I came in for lunch on my last day in Washington D.C. We loved the place -exposed wood, beautiful tables, pickled vegetables in jars, the restaurant cookbook on a wooden stand - it was exactly what we were looking for! We sat at a communal table, and got down to ordering. We had the bacon lollipops (to DIE for) Old Bay buttered popcorn (When I got home, I planned to buy Old Bay just for this purpose,) chicken pot pie and homemade mac and cheese that were big enough to share (AND take home for dinner,) and a blueberry-cherry crumble and a chocolate milkshake. Everything was delicious and beautiful . She's already planning on going back, and I'm thinking about booking a plane ticket just to try their lime Rickey. Well worth it!"

  • "My experience with Founding Farmer's for sunday brunch was average at best. It was extremely crowded and I'm sure because of this, it made the environment very clammy and congested. I decided to have sunday brunch with my two year daughter in tow. Let me tell you, this restaurant is not kid-friendly what so ever. The most they have for children is a booster seat, but that is about it. The food servings were very large, which I'm sure most people will be happy about. However, given that I had a toddler with me and seated at a small table, it was not very convenient. Server didn't make it any easier as well. My order was wrong and food was cold and taste and presentation were nothing to scream about. Pretty sub-par all around."

  • "I'm a fan of the the "Red Flannel" Hash. I like to get some pancakes if I can, too. Brunch is a great meal--great food and great drinks!"

  • "We were excited to dine here as I love farm to table food - and though not a new concept, they had a compelling menu! Went for brunch and though there were a lot of people waiting, we were whisked right in at the time of our reservation. That's where the good service ended. Our waitress clearly did not like children (which were with us - and there were others there, but not in our section)...lost part of our order...didn't notice until we brought it up and then blew it off...didn't bring any of the accoutrements all of the other tables around us had until we asked at the end of the meal...made a lame and way obvious attempt to be sweet at tip time = insult to injury. Plus side - great brunch & spicy bloodymary's! Worth trying again."

  • "The beignets are wonderful but otherwise my breakfast was a huge disappointment. The waffle was cold and the waitress offered to bring another. The second one, too, was cold. How can you get butter to melt on a cold waffle? Chicken was dry and the gravy was bland. I really wanted to enjoy this place and was profoundly let down."

  • " Seems like there is always a wait even when you have a reservation, but it was totally worth it! We had the sliders, chicken wings, and deviled eggs for appetizers. I had the pot roast for my main course. It was astounding! The prices were very reasonable for a high end restaurant and the portions are huge. It is definitely loud and crowded but the servers were attentive and very nice. I don't drink but it looked like the bar was very busy and had a nice vibe. but I cannot say anything about their drinks since I didn't try them. If you love good food but want a quieter experience, I would think week nights are more appropriate. I cannot recommend this place enough."

  • "We had visited the Founding Farmers in MoCo, but this was our first trip to the District restaurant. My daughter and I loved it. We had the brie and apple farm bread, then she had the chicken pot pie and I enjoyed the shrimp and grits. We were both so glad that we saved room for the beignets! Our server, Nora, was pleasant and attentive, and the servers who brought the food from the kitchen were great as well. I will definitely plan on another visit."

  • "I had been here quite a few times & tell our out of town visitors to make it a priority! My husband had never been so I chose it as a "date night" must. Since he travels all over the world & can be a bit of a food snob I wZ very curious to see his response....he was very impressed! Our server was very knowledgeable & had a wonderful personality. Any suggestions I asked her for were right on the money! I will definitely keep suggesting our out of towers go & we will be dinning there a lot more frequently now that I have my husband hooked as well."

  • "The first time we went to Founding Farmers, we had a good, but not great experience. Good food, good drinks, but the service was a little off. After I wrote my review, I was contacted by Founding Farmers who wanted another shot at making it right. I was VERY impressed with their desire to get better and their responsiveness to their customers. We gave them a second shot and it was totally worth it. The service was spot on, the food was really good and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. We actually needed to eat early (4:30 reservation) so we expected a quiet restaurant....but we were totally wrong. The place was hoppin! It is great to have an option like Founding Farmers where you can have a vibrant atmosphere at any time"

  • "I found Founding Farmers on a trip to DC a few years ago. Since then, anytime I'm in town, I try to stop by. The food quality seems to have declined... The whole experience reminded me of a glorified cheesecake factory."

  • "This was the third time that I have visited this restaurant . As usual, seating was timely, service was great. Our dishes were amazing! I personally had Goat cheese Raviollis, oMG, they were delicious. The only bad part, was we had no room for dessert !"

  • "We felt that some of the food we selected wasn't as good as we had experienced in the past. (multiple visits for breakfast) The eggs benedict florentine wasn't up to par and the grits were not warm enough. The eggs benedict with crab was superb and the beignets were terrific. Cappuccino was excellent."

  • "Had a fantastic brunch with out of town family, they were very impressed with Founding Farmers' food, ambiance and service. One of our party left their credit card and one of the managers found my phone number to call me and make sure we got it back."

  • "Friendly, great service and the food is excellent."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "Delicious food, wonderful service, we would definitely go back! The only thing we would improve is the tables are a bit too close together and conversations of the table next to us were a bit intrusive."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "I had been to Founding Farmers for lunch but took my husband and niece this time. The evening got off to a bad start as we were seated next to the bar and we were jostled and it was very loud. My husband's meal came cold (prime rib) and with the wrong elements of the meal. It was sent back and took almost 24 minutes to return. When it returned it had been microwaved and was still cold. They took the price of that entree off of the check but we determined that we will not return to the restaurant."

  • "If you are dining for brunch you must try the Cream filled French Toast. To Die For. Menu is amazing and service very attentive and knowledgable. Will return again when next in DC. Make a reservation as it seemed full all the time."

  • "Air condition was not working. Upper level was HOT. Sitting at a group table on the end was not enjoyable. The salad was made with iceberg lettuce. I missed that detail on the menue and truely regretted my selection. Redvelvet cake was really yummy."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "This is my second time here and I think that Founding Farmers is really hit or miss. The appetizers were very good, the drinks were good but the main meal was too salty for me, the meat loaf. I am sure other people might not think that it was salty but at there really is no need to salt the food if there are salt shakers on the table. I think they can do better."

  • "We have traveled to DC twice this year and have had dinner both times at Founding Farmers. The food and service have been great. I would recommend making reservations so you don't have to wait. Reservations are easy to make on the FF website. We will eat here again when we travel back to DC."

  • "Was looking for a place to eat close to GW. We were pleasantly surprised by the variety & ambience. The place was contemporary but casual and comfortable. We enjoyed our dinners immensely and were thrilled with the farm to table culture. Definitely will go there again."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "The menu was filled with several eclectic cchoices so it is nice for those dining with several people with varying tastes. I enjoyed the whole quality foods. The service was a bit slow but food makes it worth the wait. Make reservations several days or weeks in advance to dine during peak times. We had a wonderful server who anticipated all our needs."

  • "My daughter and I recently went to D.C. for vacation (from Chicago area) and met a high school friend of mine here. We all loved it! Food was great (we shared an order of fried green tomatoes that were delicious!) as was the service. It was crowded, but we had a reservation at 12:30 p.m. on a Friday and we did not wait long once we checked in with the hostess. We will definitely go back."

  • "We had a party of 10, which included 4 kids under the age of 9. The food was simply amazing. No one had food that they didn't rant and rave about. I had the pot roast, a whopping $16. It was to die for. Omg and eat the skillet cornbread. It is a cross between cornbread and angel food cake. Wow. Service was outstanding. Ask for Jane. The popcorn of the day was fun for the kids."

  • "We had to wait thirty minutes after our reservation time to be seated. It was so loud in the restaurant we had a very hard time hearing our family at the table. The food was good."
    Dined on 7/16/2014
  • "The wait staff and dining room staff were excellent. The food was interesting and delicious. Our initial experience with the front of house staff was less than ideal. We arrived about two minutes ahead of our reservation time and the hostess told us she would seat us "closer to our reservation time". If she had said she would seat us in a few minutes or as soon as our table was ready, that would have been fine, but her phrasing was frankly rather annoying. My only other complaint is that there are no bike racks to be found near the entrance to the restaurant, and since its philosophy emphasizes its environmentally friendly nature, this was a shame."

  • "Took my wife here for a birthday celebration. Food was as great as everyone told us. Nice atmosphere. Cons-server was slow and brought us the wrong dessert. The restaurant was hot making it uncomfortable and difficult to enjoy the great food."

  • "There are times when I LOVE Founding Farmers...the deviled eggs, the flatbreads, the chicken and waffles, the homemade sodas. But after having dined there for lunch about 10 times this past year, I have to say that the menu is really hit or miss. I recommend ordering what you KNOW you'll like, or what comes recommended by a friend. Their sandwiches are meh, with chunks of gristle (in the Turkey and Gruyere sandwich), barely discernible flavor and wayyy too much bread. Their fish entrees have been quite plain, and not very fresh. And their sides are either oily or tiny ($4 for 4 small cubes of watermelon? Really?)."
