This was our first trip to DC and had many choices for dining out. Founding Farmers was recommended and we are certainly glad we chose to go. The food was outstanding! Who knew fried green tomatoes could be this good a little up north. Many choices for dinner and everyone was pleased with their selection. Staff is friendly and very attentive. Good beer and wine selection. Will definitely go back again.

We had dinner here on a Thursday and the place was hopping. Our server was super-friendly and discreet. My friend and I both ordered cheeseburgers done medium. Unfortunately, they came out extremely rare and with barely any cheese on top. The fries were also too salty. Other members of our party were satisfied with their food, and to be fair, we didn't take the initiative and send the burgers back, so I can't speak to how they would respond to such a problem. We lingered for a few minutes after paying our bill and our server came back twice to clear stuff away, which seemed to be a signal that it was time for us to go. There were a lot of people waiting for tables, and I understand they have to keep it moving, but this seemed a tad rushed.

I expected to be disappointed because of the hype surrounding the Founding Farmers. Usually when there's so much hype, it sets you up for disappointment. However, that was NOT the case this time. The atmosphere was lively, the food delicious, and prices very reasonable. Already planning my next visit.

The food was good, though lthe menu was limited and a couple of items were not available on the evening of our visit; the early evening scene was busy, noisier than we expected - a bar with food, rather than a restairant, really; the waiter was distracted and a littled harried. Not anxious to return

I had heard such amazing things about Founding Farmers. I have to admit I was a little underwhelmed. We shared the cornbread as an appetizer, and it was very good, especially with the honey and butter combo. Our entrees were fair, nothing spectacular. Dessert was the high point. Had to wait 25 minutes for the beginets, but they were delicious. The accompanying dipping sauces topped everything off. My date had the toasted marshmallow ice cream, it really just tasted like vanilla bean ice cream. It was good, just not great. There are definitely better restaurants downtown to go to. Also, don't go intending on an intimate dinner; it's crowded and gets very loud with the majority of the tables surrounding the lively bar.

My friend ordered the short ribs, which were very good. However, the vegetables weren't done and they were a strange combination called succotash, which contained potatoes, carrots, cauliflower and kale (which was terrible). She did mention this to the waitress. I ordered the chicken cutlet and ravioli, which were both very good. I'd suggest adding some sort of a green vegetable. Cookies were very good.

I love the relaxed yet energetic feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friend's home. This was my third time here and definitely would return to try more dishes. The spicy ahi tuna poke was really fresh and the level of spice was not burning hot. Everyone loved the butcher's hot dogs & rolls. They said the bread was very light and fluffy with just the right amount of sweetness. Service was well-timed and friendly, and the cookies are a must for dessert - warm, slightly crispy on the outside with soft centers. YUM! Be sure to get reservations though. The wait was upto 45 minutes for one group who walked in around the same time we did, but without reservations.

Had dinner there on a Tuesday night. Arrived at 6:15 for a drink in advance of our 7:15 reservation - and a reservation is a must. The place was packed. The bar has about 25 stools - all occupied with another 10 or so standing. The only complaint I have is that the bar serves many different specialty drinks that take time to make - thus making the service slow when you want a beer, glass of wine,... The atmosphere is laid back and the menu has something for everyone. As the staff served appetizers and meals they all looked great, whether it was a burger or a salad or the fish special it all looked good - and judging from the how busy the restaurant was it must have been.

I've always loved the food at Founding Farmers but the experience of dining there is definitely going down. The noise level is really extreme - very hard to hear people sitting across the table from you which can be frustrating. Maybe some panels on the ceilings to absorb the noise? Reservations are an absolute must, otherwise the wait time is upwards of an hour.

The atmosphere, and the service was excellent. The food we ordered leaves much to be desired according to my taste. We ordered 2 starters: bacon pieces and 6 mini burgers with fries. Bacon pieces were too sweet and dry. There were just drenched in a sweet bbq sauce, and the dish almost tasted like a dessert. Mini burgers were a little too dry on a sweet bun and coming with a sweet relish sauce. It was extremely difficult for both of us to chew and swallow them since there were no veggies or lettuce on them. The meat was a little overcooked and wasn't juicy at all. The both starters were too heavy and too sweet. After that, we just couldn't eat any entree or dessert as planned and finished our dinner.

I enjoy Founding Farmers for many reasons; top two being: the only restaurant in the city (that I know of) to offer a great breakfast menu everyday of the week, second everything is made from scratch and "in house". This restaurant truly shows the artisan style of cooking behind both its presentation and taste.

That's what the tall Afr Am guy said as I came. It was late and I didn't get nice welcome at front. Sequoia eventually was my server but abandoned me for long stretches. Pot roast was good but too messy and oily. Sequoia troubled herself to give me a tiny sliver of french bread. Then ste disappeared. Couldn't find anyone for clearing dishes and dessert. Ordered Apple pie to go and for life of me couldn't figure out why as Sequoia informed me that after $8 for a to go dessert they couldn't find a single plastic spoon on the premises. Please FF. Go out and equip yourselves with these so we don't have to eat pie with our fingers. What a disappointment. Wish I got a refund.

I am not one to write reviews, but l think this needs to be said. The food was OUTSTANDING!!!! The real damper of the evening is that all our food came out at one time. I mean everything! Appetizer, salads, and main course and the bottle of wine. We expressed our displeasure as I felt it made it impossible to properly enjoy the courses, but they didn't offer to delay or reorder any of it. Not what you would expect at a restaraunt of this caliber.

While researching restaurants for our upcoming trip to DC, I came across Founding Farmers. As a foodie and healthy eater, I just knew I had to try it! I made reservations for 9:30 on a Monday morning, but in reality, we didn't really need them. The place was busy but we could of have easily gotten a table for two. The atmosphere was energetic and yet, low-key. It seemed like the kind of place you want to keep coming back to for every occasion. I ordered the blueberry pancakes and my boyfriend ordered the chicken and waffles. We cleared our plates. The freshness of the food was obvious and the unique flavors of the eggs were to die for. My usually picky eater of a boyfriend didn't stop gushing about his meal the rest of the trip!

Totally yummy food, but somewhat inconsistent with temperature. My Benedict got cold rather quick, but it was very tasty. I am very impressed by the quality of the food, but the temperature earns it 4 stars--not 5. Ambiance is nice for a restaurant in Foggy Bottom. We sat at a table nearly on top of a server station, and that was a bit distracting. Hearing servers moan about breakfast service as they enter orders was a tad distracting, but that's DC I think--so 4 stars there too. I will state our server was amazingly friendly, vibrant, and made the meal. I am from out of town, but always try to come to Founding Farmers when in DC.

The food was great, the ambience was comfortable, and the restaurant served as a backdrop to a mini reunion. We were late for our reservations but we also waited for a new table at the bar, no problem. We were seated at 5:45pm. We ordered appetizers, entrees, desserts, and spirits. No limits for us girls. At 9:00, after we ordered coffee, a manager came to our table and told us there is an "important" reservation waiting for our table and wanted to know when we would leave! I have never been asked to leave a dining experience before and it was extremely mishandled by management. Everyone at the table was insulted and that is why we would never return. FYI, our bill was over $200 for 5 females and that does not include the bar tab!

We've always heard great things about this restaurant and we were finally able to try it on a Saturday night. I would absolutely recommend making reservations, waiting could take awhile especially if you have more than a party of 4. It's a pretty large restaurant and even though there were tons of people there we never felt like we were crammed. We loved our waiter, he was very pleasant and attentive to our needs. We waited a while for our food but our waiter made sure to apologize and let us know when it was coming out. GREAT food, so many options, the waiter helped me pick. The menu was so diverse that all of our varying tastes were satisfied with our meal. I also love that almost everything is made from scratch, even their soda!

We were a group of ten college friends meeting in DC for a weekend. The minute the cab left us at the curb we could see through the windows that the restaurant was beautiful, trendy but warm. Leeds certified! Our table was a farm table, and even though was it rectangular, because it was narrow and not oversized, we could all talk to each other. Our waitress, I can't remember her name, she was from Alabama, was a delight and very competent. The menu had many wonderful choices, and we all enjoyed our meals. The signature drinks were good, although the spicy margarita could have done without the grapefruit juice. Desserts were outrageous, very large portion size. I highly recommend this restaurant, can't wait to go back!

I've been to Founding Farmers a few times over the years and I have never been disappointed with a selection on their menu. Even the food items that I wouldn't normally like all that much, I find myself at least finding something to like about them. My servers have always been knowledgeable about the menu and have done well with helping me to select between menu items. I've heard that the service can sometimes be a bit below average, but I haven't experienced that in my visits. I can't wait to return in the future!

Fresh ingredients, great flavors and terrific drink selections. Enjoyed the chicken and waffles. Chicken was moist, breading wasn't overwhelming. I normally don't order mac and cheese from restaurants but the mac and cheese that came with this dish was awesome.

Grace started off serving us before handing duties off to Shelby. This place is amazing. Make a reservation or you'll likely wait a long time for a table. We stopped in for late lunch on a Saturday and the place was packed. The menu is adventurous. Don't hesitate to ask about ingredients, because even familiar-sounding names might have a local theme -- succotash with no lima beans, minestrone with no kidney beans. Oh, it's all really good, and not terribly expensive. The tenor is casual, but you can impress friends who've never been there. Try an app, soup, a couple of shareable entrees. Have a creative drink. Soak up DC ambiance. Founding Farmers is a real fun restaurant. Recommended!
