Had a great meal at Founding Farmers! The scallops were slightly too garlicky for my taste (but I'm not big on garlic). However, they were incredibly tender and fresh!

We had high expectations for Founding Farmers, recommended by friends who live in DC. We were rushed through our dinner, with the waiter pressuring us into placing an order as soon as we were given our table. The entrees arrived five minutes after the appetizers (we had not even had a chance to taste a bite or two of each) -- we protested (the waiter said "they come fast") and sent them back, only to have them reappear in 15 minutes, with the excuse that the kitchen would have to make them again if we did not accept them at that time. Plates were cleared before even we had finished "working on our food". Strangely perhaps, we prefer to enjoy the food, not "work on it". A very bad decision to spend one of our three nights in DC at FF...

The menu promises a variety of savory dishes, but the restaurant falters in its execution. Overall the food is rich but not as flavorful as the ingredients would suggest. Macaroni and cheese was bland. Shrimp and grits was overly spicy with watery grits. Perhaps it was merely an off night for the kitchen. However, on previous visits I find myself feeling full but not satisfied.

Great local Dining and a must visit in DC. I've been here twice in two visits and the food and service have been amazing. Great house made cocktails, brew and farm to table food. I'd recommend the chicken and waffles for first time visitors, though everything I've ordered has been tasty. Highly recommend a reservation or squeezing in at the bar if you are solo.

Our return trip to Founding Farmers DC wasn't up to par. The pepper wings were fantastic and the service was good as usual, but the entrees were disappointing. A soggy burger and a soupy Straw and Hay later, we were wishing we had stuck with our favorites (the Signatures). After dining at both locations multiple times, we prefer the Montgomery County location.

On our recent trip, my husband and I had the pleasure of dining at Founding Farmers. We had reservations and only waited due to a 3rd person joining us that was held up. We enjoyed the bar and and bartenders. Very people pleasing attitudes! As soon as the party was complete, we were seated. Here again, we were met with smiles from the wait staff and recommendations on dinner. Based on these, we each ordered something different to try. Meatloaf, Fried Chicken and Waffles and Roasted Chicken. All 3 were delicious. Prices were reasonable and the experience was delightful!

Been there 3 times, just our bad luck that the last 2 visits we encountered screaming babies way too close by. Restaurant was not the problem, they tried to calm the children down. The parents just let it go, very disappointing. The food has been great, the service very good. We just have to work on our timing.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 8/25/2014
It's very crowded, all the time. You need to push your way in the door, there are perpetual lines of people waiting for tables. The bar is jam packed, largely by people waiting for tables or eating there because they couldn't get a table. It's 100% full, at all times and has the resulting noise level you would expect. That said, if are able to get a reservation, you don't have to wait too long, and service and food are very good.

  • Super fun with great food!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2014

The staff was super friendly and the atmosphere was lively and laid back. We ordered a few appetizers and they were delicious. My friend ordered the chicken pot pie and I ordered the shrimp and grits. The chicken pot pie was more like chicken stew with a biscuit. He seemed to enjoy it but was disappointed it wasn't really chicken pot pie. We were told that there was a biscuit top rather than a pie crust but no one told us it was only a regular biscuit and more like stew. My shrimp and grits were not really good. I could tell that it was only because there was a lack of knowledge about real shrimp and grits: not because the food itself was bad. It was tasty but not as low country shrimp and grits should be. Overall the food was good.

Decided on Founding Fathers to have brunch and catch up with a girlfriend. It was extremely crowded but apparently that is always the case, especially for brunch so just be prepared. Other than that everything was smooth sailing. We'd made a reservation, which I strongly encourage, so we were seated right away and received nothing but the friendliest service, attentive without being intrusive. I had the carrot cake pancakes and the pims cup cocktail, both very good. I initially was wavering between the pancakes or french toast, but my server thankfully explained that the french toast can skew towards the sweet side, and the pancakes were perfect, light, flavorful, just a hint of sweetness and a real carrot cake flavor.

We are VERY PICKY! We want it all; great food and ambience with interesting options. To begin with the hostess and waitress were highly energetic and positive about the place. They provided a mouth watering description to every item I inquired about right down to the lemonade, vanilla soda and wineries represented. The food did not disappoint. We were so intrigued we ordered an extra dish just to take out so we could sample this too. I've never done that before. It was the meatless turkey, cranberry and tofu burger (Thanksgiving burger?) and it was the highlight of our 7 hour drive home.

Went to Founding Farmers on 8/23. Had made 5:00 pm res and we arrived at 4:55 PM &were seated within 10 minutes. We ordered beer and signature cocktail(both yummy)some deviled eggs and bacon wrapped figs and cornbread..Delicious!!..For our entree's my husband got the pork chop ( which he loved) and I got the Rotisserie chicken. The flavor of the chicken was very good but the chicken was dry..overcooked. Did not finished even 1/2 of the chicken but gobbled up the watermelon and side potatoes . For dessert we got the chocolate mousse for 2 ..huge portion and very tasty.. I will go back but maybe not order the chicken.
