Founding Farmers - DCThe food at Founding FarmersThe food at Founding Farmers is GREAT! However, service is a bit slow. We had a 6pm reservation, but didn't get seated until 6:15. Also, our waiter may have had too many tables because it took him forever to serve us. Good thing the food is good.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMI had the cauliflower steakI had the cauliflower steak which was excellent, especially if you're trying to eat vegitarian. It came with butternut squash risotto which was delicious. My friends had fish and chips which looked really good. Everthing was nice and fresh.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFriday dinner sceneGreat pacing through the meal, I was on a date for 6:00 we were seated within 10 minutes, and ready to place our orders. Everything that we treated was delicious and believably hand made. Me and my date never felt rushed or left in restaurant purgatory. Even though the restaurant was packed we were given personable service and privacy to enjoy our meal. We left very happy.. Good meal, good service and for a nice night out.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place!Had family in from out of state for a high school graduation celebratory dinner. Our waitress was nice, friendly, very accommodating, and seem to appear whenever we needed her. The chips and cornbread were delicious. A few in the group
ordered the crab cakes, some had the prime rib, gnocchi, pot roast and braised short ribs. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their
meal - all were cooked just right, with wonderful flavors. We ordered 2 carrot cakes and 10 of us shared it and there was enough to go around. The cake was very good and could have some right now. The wine selection was great as well as the Dark and Stormy cocktail. Thank you so much and look forward to coming back.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMLocavore's DelightSmall plates, hearty salads, sandwiches, pasta dishes, fresh fish and a few steak options - all identified in a separate menu add-on as locally sourced and responsibly produced, without bashing you over the head with piety and self-righteousness. A butternut squash ravioli dish with a green salad was just the right size meal for a hot early summer night. Be prepared to squeeze up close to your dinner partners if you want to actually hear what they are saying.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Dinner in DCWe all loved our dinners. Had Yummy Crab cakes, Amazing Ribs, Wonderful Salmon, great Pork chops and Very good Chicken Pot Pie. The desserts were even better than dinner. Wings for an appetizer were cooked perfectly.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFounding Farmers in June 2013Our lunch experience was all that I'd hoped for. By booking with Open Table we were seated instantly. We enjoyed excellent food and attentive service.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFun and Unique Spot in WashingtonDCWe were seated right at our reservation time. The waitress was friendly and made sure to let us know that if we wanted the Beignets, that they took 30 minutes and so we needed to order them early. The food was excellent comfort food and we enjoyed out meal.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFounding FarmersSupport Americas farmers, eat great food! If you want to have an exceptional dining experience and feel good about what you are eating and where you are eating it, Founding Farmers is the place to be. Great food sourced, grown, produced and/or made in the US. We need more of our restaurants to model this plan. Dessert was phenomenal! Large shareable portions.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service, Great food,Great service, Great food, Great spot for business lunch/dinner or social lunch/dinner.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful place! Just be sureWonderful place! Just be sure to make a reservation!!! Food was fresh and unique.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMNot up to normal expectationsI come here often for lunch and normally have a great experience with hosts, waitstaff and food all outstanding. However, I ordered a salad here for the first time and was very disappointed. It was missing ingredients that were listed on the menu, came with green olives which were not, and was over-saturated with dressing. The greens were wilted in the way they get when sitting in dressing too long, so it was possible they'd come out of a big tub that was pre-dressed too far in advance. This isn't the kind of corner-cutting I usually see from Founding Farmers.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome FoodGreat ingredients and food! Love the concept of this restaurant. Had a group of 10 and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Will definitely be back!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMNice for birthdaysI took my mom here for her birthday. I wrote that it was her birthday on the reservation and the hosts and waiters all told wished her a happy birthday without me having to say anything. It was a very nice dinner and a great place to celebrate with her. Thanks for the great experience.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative farm to table fareThe selections pleased everyone vegan to omnivore, and the cocktails had enough fruits and veggies in them to make me believe they are health foods!6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousChicken and waffles are the perfect size to share with a friend. The salmon is not big enough to split, though it is delicious.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat FoodThis was our fourth time dinning at Founding Farmers and the food only gets better.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazed and speechlessI don't often write reviews. I don't like to because I don't ever want to run a place down on the Internet, because people work hard. To inspire me to write a review, a restaurant must truly extraordinary. Founding Farmers is. I have gotten to an age where I am not often surprised, especially by restaurant food. The menu at Founding Farmers left me speechless. The flavors were so vibrant and well paired that I could not stop eating. All the ingredients were fresh and the dishes were presented beautifully. My wife and I were literally taking notes to try and incorporate the execution of these dishes into our home meals. I would hate to over-sell this place, but I so thoroughly enjoyed my meal, it may not be possible.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot for a dateWent here with my boyfriend while he was in town. The food was delicious, the service was great, and we had a wonderful time. We'll be back here again for sure!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMNever DiappointsI've been to Founding Farmers on several occasions and it is always great! I love this place. This time I ordered the carrot cake pancakes and the premium thick-cut bacon covered in barbecue sauce..... it was all heavenly!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food + Location = FFThis was my first time having brunch at Founding Farmers. The food was excellent including the coffeee. I had the chicken and waffles which were all prepared nicely. You can tell that they use fresh produce and vegetables. I was amazed at how light and whipped the butter was and how it stayed on top of my waffles. The only negative was the two young ladies sitting next to us. They were very loud.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding Experience! We dined at Founding Farmers last Sunday evening. The restaurant was vibrant, full of a cross mix of people. I'd made a reservation through Open Table for three and the table was ready when we arrived! The service was wonderful. The menu is creative with a variety of choices. I had the salmon and would highly recommend it! Overall, We all loved our experience. Everyone in my party was exceptionally pleased!
We even celebrated a birthday, and without prior notice the staff brought out the dessert we ordered with a candle for the person whose birthday it was. They even helped us sing Happy Birthday! I would recomment this restaurant for any occassion.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing!I took my boyfriend there for brunch for his birthday. He'd never been and I was quite excited since I've already been. Founding Farmers is never one to disappoint. It was fantastic food, great service, and just all around a fun time. My third time going there and we'll definitely be going back!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMTerrific! What a delightful place! It is hard to get a reservation, so going early or late is worth it. The food tasted fresh and flavorful, and was presented beautifully. We thoroughly enjoyed everything from the bread and 3 spreads, the fresh plank salmon and sides, to the unbelievable carrot cake (huge). The Foggy Bottom location worked great for us, and we loved the vibe. We are looking forward to going again in July when we are back in D.C.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMDef going backMy sister and I went for Sunday brunck and it was great. We arrived a little early for our reservation and seated a little late but I think Open Table was down? Anyway, that didnt matter because once we sat down out waitress was sweet, attentive but not hovering. We ordered mimosas to come out with tge food and she was prompt and did exactly that. We had two different eggs benidict they were great! The portions were a good size, not too big. My only complaint is that the mimosas were $12 but a good brunch in DC cost that. Their bloody mary's looked aweseom and I will be bringing my dad back to try them.
The resturant has great character and charm too, I love the "back to the farm" all natural clean look of the place.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMHad A Wonderful Time (As Usual)I've been to this restaurant twice before and I have ordered something different each time and have not been disappointed yet. The only complaint I had was that I ate too much (not the restaurant's fault). This third time did not disappoint either. I tried the seasonal scratch soda (pineapple), OMG!!! Will be back real soon! Oh, this time I ordered the chicken pot pie and apple pie for dessert (soooo good!) Our server was excellent too!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were excellent!Food and service were excellent! We will be returning (we made a return reservation prior to leaving the restaurant). The only thing preventing me from giving it an overall 5 stars was the cranky small child sitting next to us, didn't sit still and parents let him throw things on the floor (another small child sitting behind us was very well behaved -- almost forgot he was there), which dropped ambiance from excellent to good and overall from excellent to very good.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat!Focus on sustainable, farm-to-table food. All well and good, but what really distinguishes Founding Farmers is their commitment to make it delicious. We've all had organic food that tastes like cardboard - not at FF. Their freshness abounds and it elevates the food and the flavors. We'll be back!
We went for brunch and Reservations are a MUST!!!!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the Crab Benedict!Consistently the best benedict I've ever had in my life.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMShowed up at noon, we hadShowed up at noon, we had 12:15 lunch reservations didn't get seated until after 12:30! Our server was nice however didn't know what the sides were, went to check and still came back clueless....but as always the food was great!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding! We were in DC for a week - I wish we had found this restaurant sooner. We would have happily eaten there again! The food was fantastic, and their menu offers something a little different from the standard fare. And if you go, try the Clementine off of the cocktail menu - one of the best cocktails I've ever tried.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMIts all about the food not the buzzThe food at Founding Farmers is outstanding. It may not be the place that has the hottest buzz but for those looking for good, farm to table food, it's the place to go. The cocktail selection is outstanding as well as their appetizer. The entrees are a modernized take on traditional mid-Atlantic area food. Familiar to anyone who grew up in VA, MD, PA or NC, but more flavorful than in one's memory. Lastly the deserts are amazing and are worth saving room for.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFound by accident, loved it!My friend had recommended a different restaurant and after reading the online reviews, I found this one. We went therer with our teenage children and all four of us loved it. There was something for every taste and appetite. The atmosphere was lively, but not overwhelming, and the waiter was very knowledgable. We enjoyed the cracked pepper wing appetizer and all of ours entrees. I will recommend this to friends!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFounding Farmers Gets an A+Founding Farmers was our go to restaurant for dinner after a graduation ceremony at DAR Constitution Hall in D.C., and boy was it a great pick.
For our shared appetizers, we ordered the bacon wrapped dates, skillet cornbread, fried green tomatoes, and a flatbread with brie, apples, and caramelized onions. All of which were amazing, especially the dates.
I ordered the chicken pot pie for my main, which was amazing and so filling that I only ate half. Others ordered a burger, pasta, and a salad. All of which I tasted and were equally amazing.
Lastly, I got the triple layer chocolate mousse cake with vanilla ice cream.. Oh my. That was the perfect ending. I left so stuffed that it hurt, but in the best of ways.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food, Fun TimesThe food.....fresh, unique and great tasting. Definitely on the A list - need reservations!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThe place to goA wonderful experience, great local food, with lots of interesting starters and options. Great value. An all around winner6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellant experience, rude staffAs the title says.
I go here every time I'm in DC, the food is excellant, make sure you try the popcorn (flavours change each week) and the bacon lollie's!
It's great food, naturally produced and cooked excellently. Just be aware the staff at the front desk will probably be rude and short with you. I put this down to a DC thing though.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways deliciousFarm breads are ridiculously good as a starter or a light lunch. As this was my birthday, my husband and I splurged on dessert, getting the seasonal fruit crisp (strawberry and rhubarb). Delicious! Meatloaf and Farmer's Daughters burger were great, as well. The fries and pearl pasta sides are great picks.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGood for familiesWe had dishes for teens, Mom and Dad and Grandma's and everyone was happy. The one dish that grandma didn't love they took off the bill.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMA Positive Experience - Good FoodMy sis and I took my two nieces - 13 and 5 - this past weekend. We had reservations which was helpful, and were seated on time. Our waiter was friendly, but didn't hover or abandon us. He was helpful with the menu. The mixed drinks from Prohibition Era list were delicious and mixed perfectly. Food came out in reasonable time - and was good. My sister was blown away by her prime rib, (brought it up the next day!) but my salmon was average and a tad on the small side. The sides were creative and tasty. Watermelon with sea salt and mint was refreshing. Mac and Cheese was rich and smokey. Chocolate mousse could serve 5! Overall - a great experience, and would return again!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Pot Roast EVER!!Pot Roast is one of my favorite meals. My mother made it all the time while I was growing up and I make it often for my family now. But I have never tasted anything as amazing at the Founding Fathers Pot Roast.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFriends from awayWe had friends visiting from Australia who also enjoyed it enough to go back for Brekkie the next day. Excellent choices of fresh wholesome food cooked very tastefully.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat breakfast/brunch spotThe food is really fresh and local here. A great spot for breakfast or brunch especially. The restaurant has a nice feel to it. Service was good but a little slow.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMVibrant & good foodWe sat downstairs on a Thursday night. Great menu and drinks. It was noisier than we can for but a good evening out. Our group of five each had something different and they were all good. wide choice of food and drink.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMBig Johnson's Night OutGreat restaurant, great food, great waitresses.
Big Johnson6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightful food, amazing dessertAll our food was delicious and clearly very fresh. The food service was excellent, patient, and helpful. The desserts were out of this world -- especially the mousse for two -- easily for 4 or more -- but fantastic!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat organic foodI have been to this restaurant at least 10 times. The food is great. Ecologic, high quality, good taste - you name it.
The service is great too.
The noise level is disturbing. Very loud and only few places available for a business or private discussion.
Apart from the noise - top notch!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Food and ServiceMy friend and I went for lunch. We made a reservation which I highly recommend and we were seated upstairs. It is a nice atmosphere and the service and food were very good. We did not feel rushed but the food came out in an acceptable time frame and the server did not push us out the door.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial Place for Out-of-Town GuestI like to take out-of-town guests because I know they will enjoy the food and the ambience. This time no one was disappointed. Great food, great service, and the noise level was not excessive.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Birthday MealI have been to this restaurant for lunch before and had a craving ever since. The drinks were refreshing, the service was top-notch and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I wanted to go for my birthday meal and I'm so glad I did! The server was wonderful--Ellen--she made great recommendations and was very attentive, despite a bustling crowd. The meal was so tasty...not one I will soon forget.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
