This was our first time at brunch and we will definitely go again! Chicken and waffles, and stuffed french toast were out of this world!!! And brunch is a bargain! Make a reservation early (on Open Table of course!) because day of or even week of may not be available.

  • Saturday night pick

We got lucky on Saturday morning with a last minute 7pm opening for 4 people, someone must have cancelled as this wasn't there 2 days earlier. Have previously also been lucky walking in around 7:30 pm on a weeknight with 4 people, waiting less than half an hour. We were seated in a booth at the bar which was fine as the noise level seems pretty consistent with other areas. Enjoyable lively atmosphere. Our server was very prompt, friendly, informed and never gone for long. Every dish was delicious - particularly the Prosciutto, Fig & Mascapone Ciabatta, Low Country Shrimp & Grits and the beignets.

My favorite place in DC. The concept is amazing, the drinks are from the prohibition days. They put together combinations you would never dream of! The food is delicious, I only wish I could eat more. Deviled eggs are divine. Who knew a simple grilled cheese and tomato soup could be THIS good. The steaks and burgers and are so tender and flavorful. If you are thinking of going, GO!!

We were very much looking forward to coming here, and even at 3 in the afternoon, it was jam-packed. Unfortunately, that also meant that the sound levels were off the charts. We couldn't hear the wait staff (who seemed unaware that this could be a problem), much less converse with each other. Maybe we ordered badly, but the food was nothing to write home about.

I love Founding Farmers, especially for brunch. The food is ALWAYS on point. This particular time, we had a 12:45 reservation and called to let them know we were running about 10 minutes late. They told us there was a 15 minute grace period so that would be no problem. When we arrived, it was busy like usual. We waited about 10 extra minutes to be sat. They sat us at a community looking table by the bar. Food was good, service was slow/confused. First they forgot my mocha. Then they brought my boyfriend a strawberry waffle instead of a banana fosters waffle. Our server gave us both mochas on the house and offered us a dessert to go. Sure, I wished the service had been better but I am pleased at how they made it up to us.

Steak was the choice for the evening - what a BIG disappointment! Ordered our steak medium - can out very WELL done. Except for the time our waiter took in taking our order, he was MIA until 10-15 minutes after our food arrived. By then his offer to have the steak re-cooked was too late. Side orders were OK but nothing to write home about. I can honestly now tell others I tried Founding Farmers and it is definitely off my bucket list - will recommend to others take it off their list - not worth the effort.

We somewhat had high expectations going in having read positive reviews prior but I have to say they were on point. The food was all-natural in the truest sense - everything tasted pure and homemade. We were visiting from CA and stopped for breakfast. We had the chicken and waffles, and blueberry pancakes. The food was excellent including the coffee and OJ. Would love to go back and try everything.

I have eaten here before, and it was a convenient and fun place to take friends from California. It was mobbed, and I was glad we had reservations on a Thursday lunch. I was also glad we were taken upstairs, because it was not as noisy with carpeted floors and booths. My mushroom risotto was a little salty for my tastes, but my friends loved the roasted tomato soup and crab cake which they shared. I love they have vegetarian options. My passionfruit phosphate was a lovely surprise--not too sweet and refreshing. Also, since we were coming at the end of the crowd, our server was just the right amount of attentive and let us stay and talk.

Food here is still good but they rush you through like it's a Cheesecake Factory. We were here on a Wednesday night (not exactly prime eating out time) but from checking in at the front desk to sitting down and eating all took less than 40 minutes. The waitress was talking so fast she could hardly catch her breath. We were told to wait for our table so we went to the bar but of course there weren't seats at the bar and had to order over other diner's heads. Then by the time we actually got our drinks our hostess showed up so we had to go upstairs, but they don't let you carry the check over on the tab and we had to cash out there. All in all it just felt extremely crowded and rushed the whole time. Not very romantic or relaxing.

The restaurant was crazy busy for a Tuesday night. The front desk was overbooked with reservations and walk-ins so we were sat about 35 minutes later than our reservation. We did have an awkward seating table which was a long ten top that which they sat a series of two people parties so it we got to know our neighbors really well. The waiter struggled to keep up with his parties including ours. We had the mussels as an appetizer which was good. The entrees where Mac & cheese and Filet. Both were ok, but very salty. I understand restaurants have challenging nights, but customers are paying premiums and should expect better service and food than what was provided.

Very busy even on a Tuesday. Had to wait about 15 min with a reservation. Without the wait has 1:30!! Service was ok but understandable given how busy it was. I originally wanted short ribs but they ran out and if you want the beignets for desert which are really good order them when your dinner comes because they take 20-25 min to make (wish they would have told us earlier). For a more relaxing experience go to bethesda.

I didn't appreciate just how popular this place was. V busy on a Tuesday night and remained so throughout the evening. Service was just the right balance of laid back but attentive and the menu - good old American greats and some new ideas. I love fried green tomatoes and they are tough to find. These were delicious and the sides they came with were wonderful too. The Caesar popcorn was tasty but a little salty (and I love salt so that's saying something). For mains, we shared the platter - delicious sliders and ribs - and the fried chicken salad. BIG bowl of delicious salad and wonderful chicken. Wine list good and v reasonable price. We will be back!

Had a reservation for 7:15. Got seated at 7:50. What's the point of a reservation? It was like a cattle call in there. groups of people all milling around the hostess station waiting to be seated, much like the cheesecake factory at a mall on a busy day. Our waiter was nice but overwhelmed. The food was good but my husband's prime rib came out very rare, he ordered it medium. It came back 15 minutes later after we were all done eating. It was still rare, looked like they hadn't done anything to it. Couldn't wait to get out of there. Will never go back. If all you care about is the price, this place is probably good for you. the food is tasty and not expensive. Personally, I like ambiance, this place has none, at least none that is good

This was my fourth or fifth time here and I've always been quite fond of Founding Farmers. I always recommend it when friends come to town! This time around I ordered the bacon lollis (YUM), the fried chicken salad (which I've had before), and the strawberry shake for dessert (no drinks, since I had to work after -- alas!). The lollis were divine and the shake was EPIC (that whipped cream is to die for) and the salad was good but too heavy on the onions. Kinda ruined it for me. I was tasting onions alllll night, well after I quaffed the shake :/ Also, our server was...meh. We lingered, certainly, but she actually took our water away before we were finished. Very strange. Hope we have better service next time.

Founding Fathers is a Farm to Table restaurant. The menu is varied and the food is very fresh. The atmosphere is lively (loud). The food is very good. Ingredients seem of good quality. Menu is diversified. The main thing I did not like is the front desk "regulations". Despite a prior reservation, I had to wait to be seated because my guest did not show on time. I found this very weird and inappropriate.

Everything that could go wrong did. To start, they clearly didn't read our reservation, so they didn't have a high chair ready when seating us and put us in a spot where a high chair wouldn't work. We ended up having to sit my daughter next to us and try to feed her on the seat because no other tables were available. Then, even though I said I didn't eat meat, my meal came with two big pieces of bacon right on top of it. We waited for about 20 minutes for condiments and even longer for a clean fork when my daughter accidentally dropped one. Needless to say, my food was quite cold when I finally got to eat it. It's unfortunate because typically Founding Farmers has really great food. We won't be going back anytime soon.
