The bar menu harkens back to the pre-Prohibition era with handcrafted cocktails that use juices and mixers prepared by hand. Founding Farmers has been recognized by the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington for two consecutive years, 2010 and 2011, as having one of the area's best beverage/mixology programs and received the top prize in the group's 2011 RAMMY Awards.

  • Public Transit: There are two Metro stops within 3 blocks of the restaurant, Orange/Blue lines at Farragut West or Foggy Bottom/GWU. The red DC Circulator bus Georgetown/Union Station line stops on Pennsylvania Ave. at 21st street, as well as on K Street and on 19th, all just one block away.

You choose what type you want e.g. IPA, Pale Ale, Lager and all of them are rotating weekly. Every beer they've had has been great.   • "After taking our drink orders (iced tea and a mixed drink), we didn't see our waiter return to our table for 45 minutes, so we decided to cancel our order with the manager and head to another restaurant in the area (West End Bistro). At Founding Farmers, the noise level was unbearable (we were seated next to the bar on the first floor) and the restaurant's floors and tables were dirty because of how many people were coming in and out. I made reservations two weeks prior to trying to dine at the restaurant, and I was so utterly disappointed!"

  • "Founding Farmers is always great. Had group of 3 for late lunch at 3pm on Satuday. Amazing set of three pre-prohibition drinks, and three people in our group had chicken and waffles, burger, and the strip steak with enchiladas, respectively. Amazing food, 10/10 great service. It was mobbed for 3 pm on a weekend, and with reservations we still had to wait 20 minutes. The only problem was that many people were turned away, but there were open tables-this was a hostess issue though, not a service issue. Was the highlight for my family visit from out of town, one said it was almost as good as seeing the cherry blossoms themselves."

  • "We made a reservation at 1930 on a saturday. Thank god we did because when we arrived walk ins were being given a 4 hr wait! Food was great, portions are large so keep that in mind. Highlights of the evening were the cornbread, mussels as a starter, plank salmon and roasted chicken. They also make their own lemon soda (sprite) which is really good and refreshing. Ambience is ok i would enjoy more separate ambiences for a more private less cafeteria feel. Service was impeccable. The bill was aprox 150 usd for 5 of us."

  • "The menu was so alluring. I could have ordered almost anything, it all sounded scrumptious! The shrimp and grits was not anything like I pictured it, but it still was delectable. Everything is brought in fresh that day and our server happily explained the restaurant concept and menu. If I lived within an hour of Founding Farmer's I'd be a regular. But alas, I live 7 hours away."

  • "Maybe it was because I just finished running the Rock and Roll marathon but every thing that came out of the kitchen (including their lemon aid) was AMAZING! The memory that lingers in my mind and on my tastebuds is the beniettes that we devoured for dessert. The 6 beniettes came with three dipping sauces that enhanced the warm and light breading: hot chocolate fudge, sea salt carmel, and raspberry puree. Please don't miss the opportunity to have a little heaven at the end of your meal."

  • "We had a great time at Founding Farmers! We had reservations at 5:30 but wanted out friend to joing us. When we got to the restaurant we told them that we would have 3 instead of 2. They said when he arrived to let them know. We pushed out our reservation to 6 p.m. We were in at 6:10, got a great table, great server, great food!!!! Unbelievable food!!!!!! Nothing like it. I had the gnouchi and sausage! Nothing like it.....it was so awesome! Our server was friendly and very helpful, cheery and personable. We sat at the bar when we first got there. The bartender notice 2 chairs opening up so he turned towards me and told me, we were already on our way over to the chairs but he was very fun! Overall a very positive fun experience!"

  • "The food is delicious and the bar program is one of the best I've seen in town but the service (or total lack thereof) is exceptionally bad. Every time I've been, and this last time was certainly not an exception, the servers and bartenders treat you as if they're upset you stopped by. Eye rolling, flat out ignoring, extremely snarky responses to everything is par for the course here. Again, credit where credit's due and the food and drink are great, but there are plenty of other comparable options with good service."

This time, it was all really, really excellent. I definitely advise ordering from the comfort food-style selections. FF does hearty, satisfying food very well.   • "I will give 4 stars as we had a reservation and arrived 20 min early and still had to wait an additional 15 minutes past our reservation time (with kids). ugh. AND getting reservations at a decent time is quiet a task. I tried for several of the nights we were in town but the earliest I could get was 7:45. BUT, after we were seated we had a wonderful waitress - very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing! My husband got the chicken and waffles as suggested and loved. I got the fish of the day with one of the preparations. Kids got burgers and fries and as I helped cut the burger I snuck a bite. WOW, I should have ordered one, yum! The fresh squeezed grapefruit juice was amazing and the Bacon Lollies were the bomb! Will return again!"

  • "The energy and overall meal was okay, i had reservations for a large party, but still had to wait an extra 20 minutes for our table. All the food came out at different times, with some having to wait upwards of 15 mins for their lunch. Once, food did come out it was cold and tasted warmed over. This was my third visit to Founding Farmers, I would go back, but I would need some improvements to enjoy it."

  • "The menu is innovative and diverse, but more importantly, they execute it perfectly. I had goat cheese ravioli with chicken and sweet potatoes...I highly recommend it. Portion was generous for price, and flavors were dynamic and delicious. Had chocolate cake for dessert, and it was a big hit at the table. One warning- you really need to make a reservation, as this place always seems to be nearly full."
