FF is such a hit or miss dining experience. This time it was way too packed and the toddlers at the table next to us were yelling the whole time. The food was a disaster- the egg creme came without a straw, the eggs for the eggs Benedict weren't runny, and they forgot a large part of our order. Needless to say, it was take me a long time to forget that experience and I won't be returning any time soon.

I came to DC for the long holiday weekend and tried to get a reservation every day, but all the times were either too early or too late; finally on our last day, we sucked it up made an 8:15 breakfast reservation. We arrived a few minutes early, and the place was fairly unoccupied. By 8:30, it started to fill up and boy, was I glad I had that reservation! I ordered a much-needed coffee (the farmers' blend) and it was excellent! As far as food, I ordered the maple cured ham and eggs and it was out of this world. If licking the plate was socially acceptable, I would have done so! I can't wait to return and would definitely recommend anyone who can get a reservation to eat here!

Made early reservation (8:15am) for a peaceful Laborless holiday breakfast with out-of-town guest. The noise level was barely tolerable and did not allow for quiet conversation. Waited 15 minutes for our beverages (although water seemed automatic at other tables). The delay was blamed on waiting for hot water for tea which was barely warm and would not steep the tea. Food was delivered in reasonable time. Food was acceptable but not exceptional and did not compensate for other flaws. Never again!

First time dining Sunday night during the Labor Day weekend and the atmosphere was energetic. Had reservation but had to wait additional 10 minutes in an interesting area with reading material. The service was quick and personal starting with an extensive unique drink selection. The menu was well organized with a lot of variety. Soon found out that all the items, though familiar, are very uniquely prepared: the corn bread was moist with actual corn at the bottom- great; the chicken wings were in a sweet and tangy sauce-excellent. We ordered the meatloaf which, again, was spicy and had unique flavors and the ribs which were really juicy in a great sauce. Manager offered complimentary dessert but we were too full. Great experience!

My adult family and were so excited for our DC Founding Farmers dinner with all their "farm to table" touting. I have a strict medical diet that requires primarily organic foods. So I made a special call to the restaurant prior to our arrival to double check that they indeed offer organic options. I was assured that although it changes daily, they always have some type of organic produce. NOT TRUE!! Upon arrival our server condescendingly said they had NO organic offerings and the menu hadn't changed in the 2 yrs. he worked there. He also rudely commented (among other things) that "there's always one in every group" with special food restrictions. The rest of the party's food was fair at best. What a COMPLETE disappointment! NEVER again!!

Everything we ordered was Delicious! We had the Cornbread for starters, my husband said it was the Best he ever had. We also had the Deviled Eggs and Tomato Soup, both were great and would order again. I had the Post Roast and enjoyed every Bite! My Husband had the Steak and Enchiladas, which came with Seasoned Corn on the Cob. Lets just say my Husband did not have any leftovers and proclaimed that we will come back to Founding Farmers when we visit Washington Dc again! Although Food this Good is worth the wait I recommend making Reservations on OpenTable!

My husband and I had dinner here on a recent visit to DC and we both enjoyed it. Our Open Table reservations really helped ... our wait was about ten minutes compared to the three hours other diners were experiencing! Founding Farmers prides itself on its natural ingredients and quality "farm-to-table" American inspired true food. We especially liked the skillet cornbread as an appetizer ... served warm with butter and honey, and the chicken pot pie ... offered without a crust with a biscuit on top. Next time, we plan to try the pot roast and mashed potatoes! We didn't have room for dessert, but we saw some going to other tables and they looked incredible! We would recommend this restaurant ... but make reservations or prepare to wait!

Staff was snooty at best, there was one girl at the reception who was really nice however. Our server was super forgetful and then when you ask for water you get luke warm water, no ice. .. How crazy is that? It's the middle of freaking summer. I have gotten mixed reviews about this place and now I see why. It's a good thing my food was amazing and the selection was really good. I wish the staff was nicer. ... But that is what happens when places are too pretentious. Have

I've always heard great things about this place and when a friend was in town visiting I took the opportunity to come here for brunch. The other people in my party were late and the hostess still honored my reservation when they finally arrived. There were multiple items on the menu that I wanted to try, almost ensuring many return visits. Our food was delicious and just the right portion. The only negative was our waitress wasn't the best. I had to search for her multiple times, I ended up asking another waitress if she could inform ours that I'd like to order a cup of coffee. She also forgot to order one of my friends orders.

I have enjoyed the Founding Farmers on Pennsylvania Ave. for years now and try not to visit D.C. without a stop there. This visit was with a group of four friends all visiting D.C. for the National Book Fair who wanted a great brunch on Sunday morning. No one was disappointed, everyone loved the food, especially the corn bread. What is most remarkable is that despite the great crowd that was there waiting for tables, our 10:45 AM reservation was ready and waiting and we were seated within minutes of showing up.

I was here for a 10:30am reservation on a Sunday and was only offered the Breakfast menu. According to the website, brunch is 9am-2pm...? We asked about bacon lollies and couldn't get them since they are a "lunch item". The waitress seemed less than thrilled when we asked about dessert as I heard the carrot cake is amazing. She told us no at first then changed to it may depend. After we were done eating, we asked again and she did find out the bakery was ready and we got a slice. Food is amazing but the service was a little off. Can't wait to try the Tyson's location in the fall.

My husband and I ate breakfast here 2 days in a row and we both had dirty silverware on both days. The pancakes on the second day did not taste the same as they had a sour taste. The bottom layer of our pancakes had blueberries which we did not order. I think the concept of the restaurant is good but we will not return as the experience was not good a one. The eggs tasted very fresh but the food overall was ok.

We had an excellent meal. Our favorites were the appetizer farm breads: a delicious homemade ciabatta served with slices of brie, granny smith apple, and a homemade onion chutney. Our hungry adolescent son loved the fried chicken and waffles while our vegetarian daughter enjoyed the cauliflower "steak." The menu is extensive, and there is something for everyone. Our server was really enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

My girlfriend and I went here before going to show in DC. It was extremely loud and cramped. I understand that they are busy, but I felt people walking behind me because the tables were so close together. The menu is fantastic. There is so much to choose from - a lot of organic and vegetarian options. We went on a Saturday and got to see the lunch and breakfast menu. I had a tough time choosing between three of my options, but finally chose the crab eggs Benedict. They were fantastic. I did ask for more hollandaise, but never received it. My friend got the grilled cedar plank salmon, which is loved. The service was mediocre, which made our experience somewhat lacking. Overall, this is not a place I would choose to go again.

Every time we come to Washington, D.C., we eat at Founding Farmers. That's about a dozen times. This past Friday we were joined by my brother and sister-in-law. They were mightily impressed, indeed we were all blown away. Terrific ambiance, very friendly, maybe a little noisy (upstairs was better - first time we sat up there, also cooler), great service, wonderful food. I have no complaints, only a comment - we met some friends for drinks earlier, and hoped we might be able to change the reservation of four to seven, to include them. We were told it was not possible - but when we got to our table, right next to us was an empty table that could have been moved. Maybe a little more flexibility/adaptability?

We had high expectations for Founding Farmers, recommended by friends who live in DC. We were rushed through our dinner, with the waiter pressuring us into placing an order as soon as we were given our table. The entrees arrived five minutes after the appetizers (we had not even had a chance to taste a bite or two of each) -- we protested (the waiter said "they come fast") and sent them back, only to have them reappear in 15 minutes, with the excuse that the kitchen would have to make them again if we did not accept them at that time. Plates were cleared before even we had finished "working on our food". Strangely perhaps, we prefer to enjoy the food, not "work on it". A very bad decision to spend one of our three nights in DC at FF...

The menu promises a variety of savory dishes, but the restaurant falters in its execution. Overall the food is rich but not as flavorful as the ingredients would suggest. Macaroni and cheese was bland. Shrimp and grits was overly spicy with watery grits. Perhaps it was merely an off night for the kitchen. However, on previous visits I find myself feeling full but not satisfied.

We loved the 'farm-to-table' food here. The salad was incredibly fresh. I ordered a large planning to give the extra to my spouse, but ended up not sharing because it was so delicious! The pasta and soup were also very good. It's hard to make a good gnocchi & they succeeded! The restaurant is very loud. We enjoyed the bar and and bartenders. Very people pleasing attitudes! As soon as the party was complete, we were seated. Here again, we were met with smiles from the wait staff and recommendations on dinner. Based on these, we each ordered something different to try. Meatloaf, Fried Chicken and Waffles and Roasted Chicken. All 3 were delicious. Prices were reasonable and the experience was delightful!

There was a wait at 9:30 at night on a Tuesday. Yes there was. But my daughter Liz keating worked at this restaurant the summer of 2014 - so i knew it would be worth the wait. And it was. Highly recommend the pot roast. Yum!

Whenever we visit Washington DC we make it a point to dine at Founding Farmers. Good food and reasonably priced. We alwayas were seated immediately when we had prior reservations.
