This would be a great place. At a weekday lunch time, the din here was incredible. Kind service did not make up for the unpleasantness of having to yell to be heard across a table for two, nor, frankly for the undistinguished food. Since when is a roast beef au jus sandwich supposed to taste like brisket, (ie, overcooked) with a salty dipping sauce on the side? The fries were good, though

I was in town for a business trip and had to make sure a meal at Founding Farmers was part of the itinerary. I ate here for the first time a few months ago on a different business trip and was so impressed, I had to bring my colleagues here this time. I love the southern food with a modern/upscale twist. Everything we had was delicious. If you want to eat here, though, you definitely need a reservation! Even at 8:30pm the restaurant was still packed and there was a wait for tables. Make your plans early - it's worth it!

I'd been to FF before for a work event and was impressed. I made a reservation for my dad and I at 5:45 on a Tuesday. We were seated without any issues, however, from the moment we sat down the service was totally off. Our server can only be described as clueless. She forgot my Dad's wine order, was unfamiliar with the wine list, and forgot to put in our flatbread order. (We know because she came up after and asked us if we wanted to order an appetizer). We were then rushed through the remainder of our dinner from ordering entrees to the check, and were constantly interrupted by the server checking in. While FF is always busy, its never feels good to know that staff care more about flipping the table than your dining experience.

After running the Marine Corps Marathon in the morning, we arrived for at 7:15PM on a Sunday night for dinner. So glad we thought to make reservations in advance! They were turning people away at the door. We were promptly seated upstairs and given the rundown of the menu. Portions were big (but not huge), and prices were extremely reasonable for the quality of food. We will return!

Service on Sunday 10/26/14 was ridiculous. It started off ok, but somewhere along the line things went awry. Crabcakes were ordered. Waiter said they were out. Arctic char was ordered. Also said to be out, so other entrees were selected. A third member of our party ordered trout. It was brought out and we were a little puzzled by its presentation but it was accepted as correct. Guess what, it wasn't trout...it was arctic char! And guess what else? The table of two next to us ordered crab cakes and arctic char and it appears both were available. Server was apologetic, manager comped two of our four entrees. All the food was very good and we were in the company of good friends, but wow, the service really did the restaurant a disservice.

My cappuccino was very cold and the foam had already dissolved by the time the wait staff brought my coffee. We were served bacon that we didn't order, and the table next to ours recieved three separate dishes that they didn't order. Nice and friendly wait staff but just not communicating properly to serve food according to what each patron actually ordered. We'll return to the restaurant and give it another chance.

The food was absolutely fantastic. One of the items was made to order, and we had to wait extra long for it (the beignets), and they were so excellent it was marvelous. The wait for the entrees was what we expected. The only detraction was the continuous and unrelenting noise level, provided by the architecture, all internal high ceiling and hard surfaces, and our placement right next to the bar. Not a place for a quiet conversation, but for great food. Some seating in the waiting area would be a good idea.

Came for brunch at this place on a Saturday after hearing good stuff about it and it being ranked in the top 50 breakfast/brunch restaurants in D.C..I am a nerd for pancakes, so I ordered the carrot cake pancakes.Given the fact that I don't like cooked fruit in my pancakes, I double checked with the server and she said that the carrot cake has raisins but but pancakes batter doesn't,so I agreed to try it. When the pancakes came, it was very difficult for me to enjoy them because they did in fact have golden raisins in them. The waiters should be more acquainted with the food served. Hubby had an egg scramble with leek potato hash. His dish was very good, especially the hash. Cranberry brie burger had a good patty but couldn't taste cranberry.

The food is incredible! Very fresh tasting veggies, entrees outstanding. This is a VERY popular restaurand and with good reason. As I mentioned, the food is incredible! The three of us had a 7 pm reservation on a Friday night - Had to wait for 30 minutes -- wasn't too pleased about that initially, but trust me, it's worth the wait. I had the crab cakes which are "melt in your mouth" delicious, another in our party had the bone-in long roasted pork prime chop (brined x 24 hours) which was sensational and another raved about the salt crusted prime rib, cooked to perfection. Wines were affordable and service was way above average. Will definitely return on next DC visit.

We ordered the cornbread (5/5 stars), 3 cheeseburger sliders (2.5/5 stars - sauce was pickle and something not generally liking to our palette), LOBSTER MAC AND CHEESE (5/5 stars - big serving size with a whole lobster tail cut into two pieces), and chicken and waffles (5/5 - we were able to switch out the mac and cheese side dish for a sweet potato instead). The service wasn't spectacular but it wasn't terrible either. Very energetic, bright, and crowded environment if you don't mind that.

Founding Farmers buys from local farmers around the country, buys carbon offsets, etc. They have a large, varied menu and a wonderful bar menu with specialty cocktails. This place is always crowded and the waiting area is small and uncomfortable and the bar is always so full you cannot expect to get a seat while waiting for your meal. You must have a reservation to get a seat, and don't expect to be seated until your whole party is there and your reservation time has arrived. Wonderful appetizers include our favorite fried green tomatoes. Hearty sandwiches, meal salads, and full entrees are also on the menu. High ceilings and lots of concrete make for a loud din that is sometimes difficult to talk over. Food and service excellent!

Welcome was unprofessional. I was told to stand off to the side even though I was there 10 minutes before my reservation - can't sit at the table until the other member of your party is here says the manager. So the restaurant lost the income of the two glasses of wine I would have consumed while I was "standing off to the side". They told me I had to follow their "seating mechanism" whatever that is. Food was terrible. I had prime rib sandwich - just terrible. Order a single espresso but was told they only serve double espresso. So I told them to just pour half of the double espresso out and serve me the rest. They didn't understand but they did it nonetheless.
