  • "I've been here twice now, once for brunch and once for dinner. I have not yet been let down by the food or the friendly and accommodating service. "

  • "Friends suggested Founding Farmers and we were very happy with the recommendation. The menu has many great choices and the energy in the restaurant was vibrant. We will definitely return when we visit DC in the future."

  • "Host/Hostess not very welcoming. Service was just adequate...wait staff seemed rushed, left us for too long before taking our order with no explanation, food was good, not great. Disappointed by the experience as I have heard so much about Founding Farmers and was so excited to try it. Willing to give it another try but would not rush back. So many great restaurants that the experience matters...I know it was Easter w/e but all staff from hosts to waiters seemed stressed and overwhelmed....no one went out of their way to make the experience positive. To me this means they either feel they can do this based on their reputation or they are not training staff well enough."

  • "It was my first time at DC and I couldn't be happier for having a dining experience at Founding Farmers. The staff from the door to the table were friendly, professional, and kind. I was excited to try the food because the ingredients were fresh and coming from local farms. I felt good ordering the dishes and eating them. The total experience was so much fun. Thank you!! I want to bring my family and friends when I visit again."

  • "Friends recommended us Founding Farmers and it was the first restaurant we went to during our very first visit of the US capital. We're French and real foodies and were totally amazed by the quality and great taste of the cocktails and food we had. Big quantities but who wants to complain about that as you can always take your left-overs home. The only thing though: music was a little too loud. Word of advice: make reservations long in advance to enjoy this vibrant and savory D.C. institution. "

  • "This is a great restaurant to bring family and friends to for a quality dinner. I've also been here for brunch on a date and had a fantastic time. The service is amazing and very accommodating to your needs. Always appreciated when the waiter offers his/her opinion on which entree to order if you are undecided. This is definitely a place I would come back again but just have to remember to book your table well in advance since it can get crowded. Also really nice that they don't charge a corking fee for your first 2 bottles of wine or champagne."

  • "My husband and I loved Founding Farmers. I had the Chicken and Waffles, he had the Porkchop. Both dishes were phenomenal. Best fried chicken I have ever had! The Mac n cheese was great too! We had bacon Lollies as an app, and didn't regret it. Who doesn't love bacon? Highly recommend this place! I just wish we could have had room to try dessert, but we cleared our dinner plates! "

  • "great service from Dutch! Loved the drinks. Loved the ambience. The food deserved more attention to make it great. My steak was really grizzly and tough but the sides were excellent. We got Prime Rib which was ordered rare but arrived well done, chicken and waffles were great, spare ribs good. The chips & dips and deviled eggs were excellent. We ordered Red Velvet Cake and chocolate cake. The slices were ENORMOUS, really far too large. Sadly, they were so cold they were almost frozen which made it difficult to cut into and made it not as tasty as it should have been. Serving cake ice cold renders it tasteless and is a rookie error. So there was good and bad, but the price tag is hefty so these oversights are inexcusable. "

  • "If I lived in Washington, I'd go back often... we went just for dessert and coffee and it was packed... beautiful people, amazing desserts... would love to go back for a full meal!"

  • "My husband, my 9 year old daughter and I enjoyed Founding Farmers. I found this restaurant by looking at a variety of websites for restaurant reviews. This restaurant was consistently near the top of the ratings. The restaurant was crowded when we arrived so it clearly appeals to many. Our food was good and my husband and I enjoyed our appetizers and main courses. The corn bread was the best we've ever had. My daughter, who is a fussy eater, had a hard time with the menu. Although she had a huge piece of chocolate cake for dessert that was very good and made the meal for her. The only thing that didn't impress was the service. The waitress was nice enough when she showed up. We waited a long time to order."

  • "Brought my parents to founding farmers for the first time. I had been there several times before. I've never had a bad dish. However, both my parents didn't seem to like what they ordered. My mom thought the crab cakes were dry and needed the usual pink sauce that comes with traditional crab cakes, and my dad didn't like the sliders that came with his meal. I wanted to surprise my parents with a fantastic meal from a restaurant I had to make reservations in advance for. I don't think my parents will be coming back as they are from another state maybe their dissatisfaction will help make some tweaks in the current recipes."

  • "On Saturday, April 19, 2014, we waited over a half-hour to be seated for our 7:30 reservation. I returned my water glass because it had a chip in the rim. I ordered the chicken and waffle dish. The chicken was hot, but the mac and cheese, risotto, and waffles were cold. I did send it back. When we received our check the waiter said that because of the glass and cold food the appetizers were comp. However we received another table's check. Disappointed with our first experience at Founding Farmers."

  • "We did not eat dinner only the appetizers since for the price of the apps which was great I ordered 3 appetizers and it was so yummy. I would recommend this place for any foodies . We also recommend to open table reservation this, when we got their we got right in because I reserved w/ open table their was a huge wait. The waitress was friendly and knew the food, drinks and menu "

  • "Great food, service, and atmosphere! Rachel was our server--she's awesome. We ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes, the Sweet and Sour Tomato Bread, Chicken and Waffles, and the Frisco Burger. The only disappoinent was that we didn't leave room for dessert. This place is a must eat, will absolutely return kinda place. Also had the cucumber vodka drink and the fraise fling cocktail-both very tasty."

  • "Great concept of using local farmers for a successful and delicious menu. Eggs Benedict variations tempting and skillets and traditional breakfast choices abound. Pancakes and stuffed French toast for the non-egg eating crowd. Ciabatta toast as side should not be missed with fresh butter and local preserves! "

  • "I've reviewed FFs a few times now, and it's always consistent! The servers are attentive (even the new ones), the food is delicious, and out-of-towners love it (as well as DC/NoVA friends). We love the food and always try something new… we have yet to be disappointed. :)"

  • "Triple negative- 15 minutes after our reservation time (made a month in advance ) we were seated in front of the kitchen door, an elevator door and 2 bathroom doors. It is just greedy to put a table there and seat people there. As a loyal Open Table member, we were insulted to be seated there. 'nuf said!"

  • "If you are planning a trip to D.C., I would definitely add this to the to do list. Make reservations though because this is a popular hot spot. Located right on popular Pennsylvania Avenue. Decor is beautiful and modern and clean. Food is delicious, one of a kind, and there is plenty of it. I had the yummy cornbread appetizer with real butter and honey and the Yankee Pot Roast. Also try some of their delicious beverage concoctions. They also have good kids' meals. Bon Appetit! "

  • "We had one of the daily fresh specials. The trout was amazing. Wine list was very nice. Overall a fantastic experience. We didn't think it would be difficult to get a table at 5:30 on a Thursday but made a reservation anyway. Glad we did. Always make a reservation."

  • "A Wiscinsin friend told us this was this was "the" place to dine. We had a nice table on the second floor. We started with the smears dip. I had the vegetarian mushroom scallops. They were great with yummy risotto. The cookie assortment was great too. "

  • "I used Open Table to make a reservation (highly recommended), which was the right thing to do. Our waiter, Dutch, was very knowledgeable. One of my friends asked questions about drinks and they had a clever item on the menu called, "Bartender's Choice." You tell them the type of alcohol you like, along with a basic flavor profile and they serve you a great drink. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her beverage. Another friend, had questions about entrees. Dutch gave her detailed information and the choices we made, based upon that information were all delicious. Even though we were very full, we shared a dessert that was equally wonderful. Varied menu, super bar and delicious food and beverage, what more can you ask for?"

  • "The first time I visited this restaurant, everything was great... This time, I can't say that. I loved the appetizers but my food was not good at all. I ordered the chicken and waffles and the chicken was greasy and unbearable. The macaroni and cheese (which I loved last time) was watery. My son loved his burger but I didn't even eat my food. The waiter wasn't really attentive. I hope next time is better. "

    Dined on 4/17/2014
  • "Food was great. Enjoyed the variety of the foods. We dined with 4 of our kids and felt like both dessert and specialty drinks were pushed by the wait staff, which does not always help when you are dining with a family. Also, our food did not all come out at the same time. But I would still go back, I thought the combination of foods and the amount of care into preparation , would encourage me to go back."

  • "We had been given a fervent recommendation to try Founding Farmers but had no idea we'd be walking into an institution! This feels, especially given its large, mutli-level Washington DC location, like the farm-to-table lobby center - literature about humane meat production and sustainable farming in the (packed but efficiently moving) waiting area and a very thoroughly sourced menu of delicious farm-to-table items. Delicious food, superb service and fascinating dining experience."

  • "We found Founding Farmers online before we went there and the W hotel concierge confirmed it was a great choice. We went as a family of five including 3 kids. I ate the Drag Through The Garden Scramble with a small salad and toast. The kids had pancakes mostly original. One had Red Velvet and I think it was too heavy for her as a pancake but had the leftovers from another's original. Overall the experience was great. The kid's sides of bacon ($5 each) and the juice ($5 each) really jacked up the price of our total check by $40. I was still really impressed with the decor and the food was excellent. The beignets were a hit for the whole family along with the three sauces: chocolate, caramel and raspberry. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Great food but getting a reservation is difficult and does not mean you won't have to wait when you get there."
    Dined on 4/17/2014
  • "A great restaurant should be busy whenever they're open, and, if they're really great, they can be open all the time. Founding Farmers serves breakfast, too, so that tells me something. We were 4 parents with 4 kids under 12, and a college student, but our excellent server, Kali, treated us fairly and democratically (as befitting the neighborhood). We ate and drank like royalty, though. They didn't need to tell us that everything was house-made - the quality was apparent. Two thumbs up! "

  • "Me and my guest ordered the Chicken & Waffles. Both dishes were so cold that the butter on the waffles did not melt. The mac & cheese and the broccolini were cold as well. We told our waitress. A manager delivered the new waffles to us and offered free desert. The new waffles were not hot either. I selected the carrot cake and my guest selected the red velvet cake. We were told that we could only get one free desert both of our meals were cold. I was very dissappointed with the service we received. Sadly, that was the first time my guest had visited the restaurant and she vows not to go back. As I stated previously, I visit the restaurant quite often. This was the worst experiece I've ever had there. "

  • "The food served at Founding Famers is absolutely delicious, however, the same quality was lacking within the service. It took a long time to be seated even with a reservation and our meal was very slowly delivered. It was worth the wait though-the food is outstanding as always!"

  • "I have had lunch here several time. I have also had dinner here vseveral time (there is no category for dinner in # 2). One major problem is getting a seat- THis place is always very booked. Since I cannot always plan so very far ahead, my options are some time limited. On all ocassions, I have found the food to be on hte upper side of more than very good. I have also recomended others to come to this reseaurant."

  • "We were served so kindly and efficiently by our waiter who paid special attention to our 10 year old grand with many allergies. The food was excellent and we would highly recommend to anyone. We were seated in a round booth where the children could look over into the clouds and they loved that. Thanks all round!!"
