Founding Farmers - DCThe food is great! All the food is fresh and the quality is amazing. You have to book in advance because its always full :)5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing! This place is a find and a half! First-make your reservations quickly. Traveling for business and we had dinner on a Tuesday night at 5:15 ... the place was packed (and was the only time slot open when we booked it the day prior). Second-be prepared for a variety of amazing foods. Our group all tried different things and all were delicious, but a particular stand out was the chicken pot pie. Must go back when in town to try other dishes. Cocktails were unique and fresh, service was wonderful, dessert (try one of their homemade cakes) was a must. But you know you have found a good place when locals ask you the following day where you went and begin to salivate and say "that's my favorite place in DC" when you tell them.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a great choiceNo matter what I select, I always enjoy my food and the environment. I feel like I'm at a relative's house in the country. I feel like the people at this restaurant take great pride in their work.
Everything was so fabulous for my friend's birthday lunch, that I was cool that no one sung happy birthday or put a candle in his cake. We both left with BIG smiles promising to return soon.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food, fantastic prices :)We LOVED the food and service at Founding Farmers. The only negative was the noise level - incredibly loud!! Could barely hear the person beside me.
We took our dessert to go and enjoyed it much more that way.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMVery fresh food stright fromVery fresh food stright from market .excellent country cooking .Chicken and waffles to die for .5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding Food and atmosphereHad a wonderful experience at this Eco-friendly restaurant. The menu was extensive and unique, pleasing to everyone. I would describe it as upscale comfort food with an edge. Didn't know what to expect from the description, I was very surprised that all of my dishes were SO good!!5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMBest brunch in DC.Everyone knows it, but it really is the best brunch in DC. No comparison.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Food - vibrant sceneWe had a hard time deciding what to order because so many things sounded good. The chips & dips, pork stew, burger, & tomato onion griddle bread were all great. The o luv ya! Thing that wasn't fantastic was the side if roasted veggies, but that was minor. The drink list has lots if interesting choices too. Make a reservation well in advance!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMMy great mealShrimp and grits on point the drink I had was mixed just right will be going back real soon5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFood is delicious and flavorful.Food is delicious and flavorful. I enjoyed the crab cake eggs Benedict. The server recommended the maple, black pepper bacon which was the most delicious bacon I have ever taste. Service was excellent.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat concept!!!I love that farmers actually designed the restaurant concept as a message about sustainability and good food! Just that alone makes me love it! Unfortunately, I had a sour stomach that day, so I stuck to a simple turkey sandwich - delic and amazing chips! - and the homemade ginger soda. My family loved the Southern Chicken Salad, cornbread appetizer, sauce sampler (the bread alone was fantastic). The meatloaf, however, had a little too much going on with the spices and denseness. Overall, I want to go back and try a few more dishes!!! And the cocktail menu looked original and yummy.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMMy favorite restaurant in DC!Excellent food and atmosphere. Suggest you visit their website to learn about their concept. I wish more cities would have a restaurant like Founding Farmers.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMLived up to the hypeUsually I'm a bit cautious when I hear about places that tend to get overhyped. (When that happens I tend to brace myself for sleek design and nice crowds?....with oversized plates and small portions centered on them). FF definitely had the stylish decor, nice vibe, and a nice/ diverse crowd AND...the service was great and the servers/ management all energetic and attentive. And the food (most importantly) was great! Ordered the chicken and waffles (and eggs), not knowing what to expect and was very pleased! Even that wasnt an easy decision to make; so many great (reasonably priced) things on the menu to choose from. I wondered why it was so tough to get a reservation on some weekends but I see why now. I'll definitely be back!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMKudosJust loved this place and would have gone the next night as well to eat more scrumptious appetizers and main dishes if we had not had tickets on a plane out of D.C. Service was excellent too as we had at least three waiters tending to our needs. Kudos.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGood ChiliWith one bite, I really kid you not, I asked the waiter if they give out any of their recipes. Apparently they are putting together a cook book in the Fall.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGraduation celebrationOur daughter graduated from George Washington University and our family celebrated with cocktails and appetizers. The carnivores loved the bacon lollies and the vegetarians found the flatbread outstanding. No bad choices. Cocktails were made with care, though the Dark & Stormy recipe was a little too limey and not enough sweet ginger kick for my taste. We sat on stools, which was not very comfy, but overall the food, drinks and atmosphere made for a special celebration.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSuper food, near the White HouseGreat menu, great food. Good wine and beer list. Helpful staff. Great experience. A mixed crowd (ages, groups, couples). Reservations essential, the sooner the better. Could not get a table on a Saturday except mid-afternoon. But it was well worth it.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFounding Farmers Fantastic! This has to be one of the best places to eat in the DC area. The food cannot be overrated; it's just that good! It's a little expensive, but fairly priced considering just how amazing it is. The mashed potatoes were awesome, and I usually don't get worked up about potatoes. The fried green tomatoes at to die for. It was perfect for a casual yet delicious graduation lunch, conveniently located for foggy bottom. Don't try to go there without a reservation though, I overheard the wait was about 45 minutes without one. However, it's easy to make a reservation, and my group was seated promptly.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMDelish! My family of (4) really enjoyed the selections. Our food was delicious and presented very well. Our waitress Ellen was very helpful and most pleasant. Thank you!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThe hype was worth it!I was surprised as how to extensive the menu was. There's a pretty solid drink menu including a "tiki of the day" which will "put you in a good spot" according to our waiter. We decided to go with 2 cocktails (the millionaire and the constitution), both of which were very good. For our entrees we ordered the chicken and waffles with a side of the sweet potatoes which were prepared to perfection. We also ordered the scallop dish from the "meatless" menu which has a variety of vegetarian options. The mushrooms cut to look like scallops were superb. To top off our lunch we ordered the seasonal fruit crisp with ice cream which definitely was icing on the cake. I recommend making reservations in advance because it'll totally be worth it!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMIs it worth the hassle?Founding Farmers is REALLY hard to get into - requires patience or good timing. Mixed reviews from us - excellent egg whites scrambled with vegetables, good scrambled eggs, great bacon and out of this world beignets. Home made English muffins were tasty, but too thick, too "bready." Sausage was unexpectedly sweet. Grits were awful, unless you like really tasteless, runny grits. As a Southerner, I have never seen them served with a SPOON! Hot chocolate is perfection; orange juice the real thing. Scimpy butter. Terrific young man who seated us should be cloned. Waitress was pleasant; woman at reservation desk was not. Would do it again, but not knock myself out about it.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMVisit number 12 or so...Went for breakfast with reservations, got seated within 5 minutes, we ordered quickly and efficiently, food was great, good portion sizes but not crazy. only very minor complaint was the coffee press pot was bit acidic, but it may have been the current choice of roast ...Can't go wrong with any of the egg dishes, and the oatmeal is a nice change of pace with a variety of nuts and fruits to add at your discretion, tasty and good portion size. Have rarely experienced a mis-fire. But beware, going during busy times without reservations almost always guarantees a wait, although the bar can be an option depending on the size of your party...5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious!!Best restaurant breakfast ever!! The corned beef hash was amazing, and our waitress was wonderful!!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent as AlwaysThis was my fourth trip to Founding Farmers - and I continue to be impressed. The butternut squash and the veggie turkey burger ordered by my date were both amazing. Great service and prompt seating - thanks!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFounding Fathers, a gem is found! After my recent visit to Founding Farmers, I was very pleased to say the least. The service was awesome and the food was delicious. I got the cheeseburger and It is definitely a top contender in my book (I am a burger connoisseur). My friend however ordered the peppered chicken and complained it was too sweet, I dissented.
My overall experience was very good, but I must say I could have done without the apple pie for dessert. It is certainly nothing to write home about. It left so much to be desired, but at any rate I would recommend this place to family and friends.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWe waited long enoughI had lunch at Founding Farmers (Washington, DC) with a close friend of mine in which I had not had the opportunity to meet up with for more then 5 years. We had outstanding service at Founding Farmers. The waiter was cute and funny. The food was delicious. I decided to take my friend to that restaurant because she had never been. Of course, this restaurant was the perfect setting so that my friend and I could talk about the last 5 years of our life. This was the best decision I had made all week. We can't wait to go back.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways Great!Every time we travel to DC we make it a point to have a meal at Founding Farmers. It is phenomenal! Great Food! Great Wine! Always love to share this restaurant with folks that have never been before.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMLove to share the farm breadsLove to share the farm breads as appetizers. My family enjoys the tomato soup and grilled cheese. The apple pie is so worth the calories!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMlovelyThe food was delicious. The service was very good. We were provided a nicer bottle of wine since the one we chose was not available. It was my first time dining here.
The only note I would say is the prime rib was not prepared accurately but seemed like a tasty ribeye non the less.
The butchers choice was excellent and the sides were outstanding.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMChicken and WafflesThe Chicken and waffles are great! The best item on the menu.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMBEST in DCGreat food! Every time we are in DC we make a point I stop at Founding Farmers. This time we got the bread with tomato, pickled onions and goat cheese spreads and the ultimate deviled eggs for appetizers, and chicken pot pie and Bacon Burger (actually a Vegan burger from their "Meatless Menu") for our entrees. For dessert we had the red velvet cake and chocolate cakes for dessert. Each of the cakes had their own homemade ice creams to go along with it. Everything was amazing. The organic cucumber drink is fabulous as well. Try Founding Farmers- you won't be disappointed!!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food!My wife & I recently enjoyed an outstanding meal at Founding Farmers. I had heard great recommendations from friends and read others online. We were not disappointed. The food was delicious. We were seated promptly & service was great.
Clearly a popular place & favorite of many folks. We made reservations on Monday for dinner on a Wednesday and could only get availability either before 5p or after 8:30p. Definitely recommend getting a reservation a couple days prior to get a preferred time. We look forward to going again.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious but priceyMy second time at Founding Farmers for a meal, the quality of the food and the service were excellent. Even though the plates are expensive, the amount of food is abundant. I made three meals from my chicken and waffles entree since I had a salad as well. FF is great for groups, especially if you want to impress clients or potential job candidates. Everything on the menu looks good, and the two entrees I enjoyed have been delicious and plentiful. Desserts are okay, also large, which makes them perfect for sharing. Scratch sodas are amazing. Overall, I enjoy FF and it's worth treating yourself or going on another person's dime!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMRedeemed ExperienceI've dined at Founding Farmers when it first opened and didn't exactly enjoy my experience. Going back a few weeks ago I was hesitant, but throughout enjoyed my brunch on a busy Saturday morning. Fast forward to two days ago and once again I was impressed. Best waffles I've ever had, perfectly seasoned chicken, and yummy eggs. Their lemonade is the best in town, I swear. And we loved our waitress, she was great. Everyone gave their meals and experience 5 stars and it was the perfect start to my day.
Thanks FF!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food and great settingWent for the first time with my wife before going to a show and we both very much enjoyed it. Her drink (Scorpion) was a refreshing, tropical flavored drink. My Dark & Stormy with real ginger beer packed a lot of punch and flavor. We had the bacon lollies for an appetizer, which were good, although a little too much on the sweet side for our tastes. Seeing the PEI mussels walk past though, we'll definitely be trying them next time. My shrimp and grits was just ok (the 'low-light' of the meal). The grits were ok, the sausage was too spicy for me (stupid northern European roots), and there was a lot of grease in the plate towards the end. Her chicken & waffles were excellent, but the mac & cheese side left something to be desired.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreatnessThis place was amazing as always. I loved the atmosphere, the service, and, of course, the food. It gives a great dining experience, and there's lots to choose from.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day GiftMy family and I ate at Foundinger Farmers on Mother's Day 2013. I had not been to this restuarant prior. I really enjoyed the options they had for brunch as well as the accompanying prices. I am a native of Ohio, as are my visitng family members. We were all very pleased. I will be sure to visit again.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best breakfast in theThe best breakfast in the Wash Metro area...maybe the East coast. Make sure you reserve (on OpenTable) well in advance.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Healthy ExperienceLoved the idea of a resterant celebrating sustainable farming and fresh food. Went here on Mother's Day Sunday before a concert at the Kennedy Center. Our waiter could not have been more charming and efficient. There was such variety on the menu we had trouble choosing. The fried green tomatoes are delicious as was the lobster macaroni and cheese. Try the warm cookie plate for dessert with a scoop of home made ice cream!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Mother's Day ServiceThe drinks were a little slow coming out, but other than that the service was prompt, attentive, and just wonderful. Our waitress was lovely, I wish I could remember her name.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day BrunchHad a wonderful Mother's Day Brunch here. I had the Crab Benedict, and it was probably the best breakfast I have ever had!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent! We really liked Founding Farmers... from the corn bread to the home-made ginger-ale, everything was great. A must-do while in DC. Food was very fresh and we were really surprised by how affordable the prices were. For a family of 5, we 3 teenagers, we spent less than $200 - including tip. We will be back.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMvery good but a little loudWe went to celebrate our 17th anniversary. It came highly recommended. The food was excellent but it was a little loud.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding Dining ExperienceOne of the best dining experiences we've had in a while. The relaxed environment and excellent service along with a diverse and interesting menu of drinks and food, all of which had outstanding flavors and presentation, resulted in a excellent evening of food and enjoyment. Watch out for the deserts, they are huge!! Enough for two easily.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMQuickly became my favoriteAfter my first visit, Founding Farmers became my favorite breakfast spot. Of the dozen or so times I've been, I've only had one bad experience, and the manager did everything she could to make it right. The banana foster milkshake is a must try (not listed on the menu, so ask for it). The banana foster pancakes are also delicious. I usually order the steak and eggs as my go to fab, but the chicken and waffles and blueberry pancakes are also great!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMhealthIt was great to know the food I was eating was sustainable and healthy.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFood allergies? Don't Worry!I've been to FF before & it's always great. This time, I brought my Mom, who has tree nut, cocoa, & shellfish allergies, there for Sat. night Mother's Day weekend dinner. Our server was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and most importantly, careful about what she recommended to my mom, from drinks to entrees. She did it in a way that most servers don't- we didn't feel like we were getting any "special" treatment- just that my mom was a regular diner. That was really exceptional. She mentioned the allergies before we did (I had put it in the notes on the res.) and my mom felt really at ease (rare!) and comfortable. Not to mention the food and cocktails were amazing as always. Thanks, FF! Best experience w/allergies we've ever had!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always I had a fantasticAs always I had a fantastic experience! Definitely make a reservation as soon as you know you want to eat here because it fills up! I had the black pepper Gnochi (second time ordering this) and it did not disappoint. It is my favorite item on the menu so far (although I don't think I would be disappointed with anything on the menu!) I would definitely recommend checking this place out if you haven't already!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBreakfast was amazingThe food at Founding Farmer's has never disappointed me. It is always fresh, hot, and delicious. If you are ever in the Foggy Bottom area, it is a must go to restaurant. I also love the fact that they use local grown and in season things to inspire their menu. Their homemade ginger ale is to die for and I have their crab eggs benedict every time I go for breakfast or brunch (it's that good!).5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is fresh, wings areThe food is fresh, wings are to die for, breads and spreads are a must. Try their milkshake. Seating is a pain ,they seat you per your reservation and are quite inflexible about adding a chair. And they have two floors .... for lunch at11:45.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
