A word from Foster Harris House
The Foster Harris House is nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, minutes from Shenandoah National Park and a short hours drive from Washington, DC. We invite you to enjoy the seasonal culinary delights of our country inn here in beautiful Rappahannock County Virginia and experience a five-course meal in our intimate, 10 seat dining room. Our prix fixe menu changes weekly and highlights local, seasonal ingredients. Chef owned and operated, the Foster Harris House serves dinner to the public on Fridays and Saturday nights by reservation.
Note: Because of our extremely small size and prix fixe menu, we're unable to accommodate dietary restrictions. If you have a food allergy, we're happy to let you know whether or not that ingredient is included. If you're not able to dine with us because our current menu doesn't fit your needs or preferences, please keep an eye out for future menus, since we'll be changing it up often!

The Foster Harris House serves just ten guests, 2-3 nights a week. But for those lucky few it is a great experience. The food is truly magnificent. And it's served by the chef and his wife in a charming old house in Little Washington. Truly a wonderful place and a great place for a special occasion.

John and Diane did an amazing job! We celebrated my husband's birthday here and everything was superb. Chef, John, created a superbly executed dinner and the service, from Diane, was great! You MUST do the wine pairing, as it set the overall meal to that next level. We agree with other reviewers that it's like dining in someone's home, which we really enjoyed! I have already been telling friends and family to visit Washington VA, and to make sure that they have dinner at Foster Harris House! We look forward to coming back at some point in the future!

Exceeded our expectations for an enjoyable meal. In this case, prix fix provides and intimate dining experience and shows the advantage of food preparations done by the chef instead of by his staff. Each course was extraordinarily delicious, well-presented, and well-served by the innkeepers. This is local farm to table dining at its best.

We had great food, excellent service and an interesting constellation of guest. It turned out that three of the five couples (us included) knew a local couple. All in all a very good meal and evening.

Chef John and wife Diane comprise the staff at Foster House. They do it all. Sitting is limited to 12 in the dining room of their home. It does get any more intimate. Food was delicious, each course a success. Wine pairing very acceptable. None of the pretense of the Inn at Little Washington. We will come back again and again

  • A wonderful Washington VA find

We found Foster Harris House almost by accident, and consider it one of the luckiest finds we've ever made. The food is, of course, a major draw: expertly chosen, fairly priced (its a fixed price, set menu) and perfectly cooked, everything tasting as if it were just delivered from the farm and combined into an ideally balanced mix of flavors. But it's the graciousness of the hosts, Diane and John, that really makes the evening glow. They're relaxed and funny and seem to love what they're doing, and their joy is contagious. And if you think dinner is great, and it is, book one of the incredibly comfortable rooms so you can also experience breakfast.

This 10-seat restaurant in scenic Rappahannock County is truly a hidden gem. John and Diane are delightful hosts who understand and appreciate good food and wine. We selected the wine-paired prix fixe menu and were very pleased with their selections. It is clear that John and Diane love what they do. Overall, an excellent meal and dining experience.

My husband and I went to Little Washington to celebrate our one year anniversary early. We originally planned to go to the Inn, but when we moved up our plans I felt like something more low-key and moved our dinner reservations at the Inn for the fall. I am so glad we did, this was the best meal we have ever had! It was quite intimate, with only enough seating for 5 couples. There were 4 courses and each one was done to perfection. Dianne and John are so pleasant and made us feel very welcome. We had a great time talking to them and even talked to one of the couples sitting by us for a bit. I can't imagine how wonderful staying there is and we definitely hope to stay there in the future to try their renowned breakfast!
