Diner Reviews
  • "Paella is a family favorite. This was not up to par. The rice was mushy and seafood chewy and not enjoyable"

  • "Real Gem.. Terrific food at a terrific price. Excellent service as well!!!"

  • "This wasn't the usual rushed meal that I had become accustomed to at Forno's. Service was attentive but not rushed. While bread and salad were placed on the table before we were even comfortably seated, the remainder of the meal was paced very well. A special appetizer of Avocado & crabmeat was delicious & the chorizo was some of the best I've had. Among the 6 diners we had several different shellfish & fish entrees. All were ample portions and served hot and seasoned well. The only complaint was that when the waiter was asked to describe the Stuffed Shrimp entree he neglected to mention it shrimp & crabmeat would be smothered in a cheese sauce. With the rice, potatoes and vegetables we were all too full to try any of the desserts offered."

  • "Loved the atmosphere, very lively, but fun. Service overall seemed to be a problem, plenty of help wandering around but took forever for everything. Drink orders, menus, food and getting anyones attention at all. Appetizers were ordered and our meals, but even after 3 requests, my sons soup was bought along with our dinners and then he didn't get his dinner till he finished his soup. A big pet peeve of mine is when you order a $35.00 dinner and then to charge you for a second glass of iced tea, in a glass that is filled with ice and 3 sips later its empty to me is ridiculous. How much does that cost 3cents. Still loved the place, we had a fun time and I would go back again, Food was good, large portions but nothing over the top."

  • "Had dined there before and was extremely pleased. This last occasion, however, did not live up to expectation. Extremely slow and forgetful service, multiple servers who did not communicate with one another. Appetizer came out together with entrée, those apps that actually made it to table, one ran out of shrimp, another was refused. Food was plentiful, and for the most part very good, two servings however, came out cold. We understand that there was a nearby hockey game that evening (which we wound up late for), but the place was not as crowded as I have seen it before when service was spot on. Am a bit guarded about returning, in particular on a hockey night."

  • "I worked in Newark for 33 years so have been going to Fornos since it was a little hole in the wall. Tried and true. But haven't been there in about 5 years since I retired. Was shocked at the prices. Potatoes weren't as good as they used to be (consensus of the table). Still it's a keeper. And still draws a crowd--even on a weekday night!"

  • "This was our second time to Fornos. The first was lunch on a weekday and it was a quiet meal. This time was for dinner on a Saturday night and it was packed and noisy. The food was great and portions were adbundant. My only complaint was that even with a reservation we had to wait 45 minutes for our table."

  • "When it comes to Fornos of Spain, I am a repeat customer. Having worked in Newark for almost 20 years, I've been to most of the restaurants in Newark, both in and out of the Ironbound section, and I can say unequivocally that Fornos is my favorite. The food is consistently top notch. I've been there many times and have never been disappointed. In fact, I no longer work in Newark and live about 45 minutes away and still go to Fornos. On our last trip they made my father's birthday very special. Every bite is like a concert in your mouth, from the delicious complimentary salad that greets you soon after you sit down, to the mouth watering appetizers, entrees and desserts. The service is impeccable and the ambience just perfect. GO NOW!"

  • "A group of family and friends met up at Forno's. We had a wonderful time. The food, service and wines were exceptional. We are going to plan our next outing in the spring. Parking was an absolute plus!"

  • "We have been to this restaurant many times and the Spanish cuisine at Fornos can always be counted on to be plentiful and good. We were a party of 9 and Fornos graciously accommodated my Open Table request for a large round table. Our dinner started very successfully with drinks (excellent Sangria!)and the complimentary bread and salad, but then the wait staff became scarce and it took quite a while for the waiter to come back to get our dinner orders. For whatever reason, it took almost another hour for our dinners to be delivered....very unusual since service is usually very quick and efficient at Fornos. Despite the slow dinner service, we enjoyed our food very much and will most probably go back again."

  • "The food is still very good, but not as good as it used to be. I have been going to Fornos periodically since the 70's and it's still worth it."

  • "A good restaurant close to the Prudential Center. I have been going to Fornos for 20 years. Still the same good food, nice atmosphere and service."

  • "Good food and service. Somewhat loud. Somewhat crowded."

  • "The restaurant was very accommodating, when I had to delay my reservation. The food was delicious. The service was perfect. The food they immediately bring you, before you even order (olives, salad, delicious regular and garlic rolls) was a really nice touch. The restaurant, although a bit cavernous, actually suited me snd my party of 9. The ambiance was perfectly suited to our moods and gathering."

  • "A reservation for a 1 PM turned into a 3 PM sit down due to poor hosting & follow up from Fornos. They Pushed back my 1PM to 2PM & we were seated at 2:50 PM ...ridiculous". Initially a party of 12 due to the wait, dwindled to 6."

  • "From the free valet parking to large selection to great food it was exactly what I hoped for."

  • "Huge portions of delicious Spanish food. Out of 7 entrees ordered, all excellent except one. So many extras--salad, rice, fried potatoes and vegetables. Go when you're hungry and you'll still take food home."

  • "Food and service were outstanding! Noise level is off the charts! Hard to hear a conversation taken place at your own table. Would not deter me from going back."

  • "There was a group of 6 out for dinner for my friend's 30th bday. The staff was very friendly and accommodating even though our original reservation was for 10. I have been to Forno's plenty of times and it's never a disappointment. Good times in a good atmosphere!!"

  • "Must qualify that our experience was on a busy Friday night in early Dec. Reservation was for 8 people for 7 PM. Party was complete by 7 PM. We were not seated until 7:30. Entrees were not served until 9:00 PM. Dining room was loud and warm, 77-80 degs. A/C cycled every 25 mins. Service was unprofessional and scarce. It was a "food auction" when our entrees arrived, "Who gets the Dover Sole?", "Who ordered the salmon?", etc. We had to ask a waiter from another table for additional drinks. After several minutes wait we had to hail a busboy for salt and pepper when waiter couldn't be located. If you want good food in a loud, warm dining room and don't mind inconsistent service then you probably would prefer eating at Fornos than ordering out."
    Dined on 12/6/2013
  • "We were a group of four. Everyone loved their individual orders (except me) and the shared appetizers were excellent. The sole was extra special. The Margaritas were great!"

  • "I have been here at three times already and each visit gets better.... The food is excellent, atmosphere is great, can be a little loud at times, but nothing too crazy. The sangria is a must to try! And also my husbands favorite the 32oz NY strip ! It's definitely a steak to share, but sometimes the men can eat it alone. Check it out you won't be disPpointed"

  • "Service wonderful and friendly. Food is very good quality. Menu is massive. The portions are tremendous. The white and red sangrias are the best I've ever tasted but potent. They have a secure parking lot. I love everything about Fornos. I recommend it to everyone I know.bring your appetite with you when you go. Ps. The creme caramel flan for dessert is to die for!"

  • "Overall this restaurant was good but our reservation was not honored and we had to wait a half hour to be seated."

  • "Went here for a group work dinner and everyone loved the wine food service and Tartufo deserts. My self I'm a vegetarian and we all loved the portobello mushrooms and potatoes aioli. Paella was perfect and everyone else who ordered the shrimp steak fish all loved their meals and couldn't wait to enjoy the left overs for lunch the next day. Better than adega grill down the street."

  • "Waited a long time for our table even though we had a reservation. Finally seated us in a corner section which is good as it was a little quieter. Waiter was nice but food took forever to cook. We had to ask several times where it was. Had 3 kids with us who were very hungry! Food was very good, but some things used to be a little better. Have a local Spanish/ Portugese place that does an great job and has better service and wine prices. Not really worth the 30 minute drive anymore. Speaking of wine- their wine list is awful! Laid out in an odd manner with wine labels, and prices are much higher than usual. We know wine and what it costs in stores and are use to a restaurant mark-up, but theirs is ridiculous!"

  • "Portions somewhat reduced and prices raised, since the last time we visited this restaurant. Overall food quality still good, sangria quality down and price up. Not as crowded a bar as before (not necessarily a bad thing), and reservation times kept, unlike years ago."
