Diner Reviews
  • "Diverse menu, well-prepared food, prompt, friendly service. We'll be coming back soon."

  • "Food is still consistently good and happy that they've kept their low-price ($10) house wines by the bottle as they're a great accompaniment to the food and give you the opportunity to order both a red and white for less than you would pay for a single bottle elsewhere. Pasta is homemade and excellent and the desserts are also very good. Will keep coming back."

  • "Excellent Italian food!! Family owned. I had their famous gnocchi which was awesome! Lived up to the reputation! The starter salad was even excellent. And the staff was top notch! Will go back for sure! Owner was great!"

  • "From the truffle fries to my halibut over gnocchi to the chicken parm to crime brûlée, everything was delicious. The whole staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgable. Love that it is family owned and try use locally sourced items and house make their pasta. Truly a gem. Will be returning!"

  • "First visit. My steak salad was very good, my husband's chicken marsala was nice with a super tasty creamy polenta, the chicken alfredo was rich without being overpowering, and the chicken parmesan was enjoyed by my oldest son. The bruschetta was perfectly fine and should be devine in a couple of weeks when the summer tomatoes come into their full flavor. The food was all very good but what stood out was the service. Our server was attentive without hovering, the owner's mother came by and asked us what we were celebrating and the owner's son (who was serving other tables) later came by as well to make sure all was well. This family owned business deserves a try!"

  • "We have been coming here since the restaurant opened and are never disappointed. Forno Vecchio not only serves high quality, fresh, homemade food, but they also have the advantage of an owner and staff who are warm, welcoming, and seriously interested in making your dining experience the best! Our family of five has tried a variety of items on the menu, from seafood to chicken to pasta, and honestly they have all been excellent. There is a nice selection of wines, but even their water is great! Prepared with lemon and orange slices it "pairs nicely" with everything!😉 Forno Vecchio is a local, family owned restaurant. When the owner tells you she has to go home to "get the homegrown tomatoes and fresh laid eggs", that is the real deal!"

  • "We have lived in the Pleasanton area for about a year and did not see this hidden gem right on Main Street. Our son has gone many times and kept encouraging us to try it. (He loves the garlic bread). The sign is a bit difficult to see as it blends in with the others next to it, so we would drive past it not knowing it was there. We are so happy that we finally made it. The food was fantastic, the ambiance wonderful and we had great service. When the owner, Jana came over and welcomed us to the restaurant that just made it even more special. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Great service from the entire family-owned staff.....from the grandson to grandma they were all attentive. AND, the home made bread and pasta was fantastic."

  • "This place was not our first choice for a special dinner with family, but it turns out to have been a very good choice. The house wine was very good, the antipasto was cleverly done, and each pasta entree we ordered was better than we expected. The menu appeared to offer run-of-the-mill "American-Italian" dishes, but we were each happy to get dishes that had unique twists and excellent flavor. The rack of lamb was too good for an Italian place; the chef is definately someone who likes lamb and it showed. The desserts were rich and not the predictable "cheescake and mousse." We'd go back without hesistation."

  • "This was my second time eating at Forno Vecchio and I had a wonderful dining experience! The mushroom burger served with pear soup was outstanding! This is my new favorite restaurant and I will be back!"

  • "This was my first dining experience at this restaurant and my guest and myself both enjoyed our meals very much! Food was prepared exactly as we ordered and arrived HOT! Very good price for a luncheon pasta dish. Nice house chardonnay at resonable price. Server very attentive but not overbearing. Will definitely go back!"

  • "We enjoyed the Salmon and the Shrimp Scampi! The Pork entree was on the dry side! Overall, enjoyable dining spot in Pleasanton downtown! Very good service and ambiance!"

  • "The rating for food is low because we were served salad with a hair in it. The waitress was very professional and gave us credit on the bill. We would return. This was unusual for them."

  • "The food is delicious. A nice variety of choices on the menu. We've been twice, everything we've had has been very good. The staff is very friendly and good at making you feel catered to. My only complaint is that it can get pretty noisy in there. We were seated next to a large party, so that make it a little less romantic, but we will be back for more!"

  • "Outstanding service, seems like it's family-owned and they try very hard to please. Lasagne was delicious. Salmon wrapped in phyllo on a bed of spinach was unique, tasty, and big enough to not finish--so brought the remainder home. Wish they offered more Livermore wines."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "I ordered the lasagne, but it was cooked so the noodles were a little too crispy on the edges for me. I then ordered the shrimp scampi and I liked it much better. I loved their focaccia bread and seasoned olive oil mix. I probably could have made a meal off of this!"

  • "Janna the owner does a great jon making you feel at home. There are lots of Italian places in Pleasanton but this one is a not that well known. It should be. It is a hidden gem."

  • "It had been some time since we dined here. The menu has expanded, the tables have been rearranged and the waitstaff has increased in number. The food is still excellent, and the desserts are still great. We'll be back soon."

  • "In the past few months, I have taken out of town guests to Forno Vecchio. The environment is warm and cozy. The waitstaff efficient as well as helpful . It demonstrates the pride only found in a family owned establishment . Even Nana helps out! Good food, good wine, good company. What more could you ask for!!!!!"

  • "Usually we have had good food - but this time around the bread before the meal was old and stale the Lasagne - of which we love - was cold to the touch in the middle and tasteless (needing garlic or something) it was a slow night - so timing was not an issue - maybe being slow caused the issue with complacency we chose not to complain onsight - but its been stewing in us since so I write this response upon the request of Open Table"

  • "Me and my fiancé went to Forno Vecchio for Valentine's day! Their three course prix fixe menu was awesome, from light appetizers to filling entrees and back to a nice light dessert. The food was great, the ambiance was great, and the services was great as well! Would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Forno Vecchio did a great job on the busy Valentines Day this year. The food was very very good and the staff and owner attentive. Our evening exceeded expectations and so glad we came here. We will be back."

  • "Took my spouse to valentine'a dinner here. Didn't even know the place existed. Hidden secret. Downtown Pleasanton has plenty of Italian joints to choose from but this one is got to be in the top 3."

  • "The meal was great and the service was outstanding. I took my wife here for Valentines Day and she ordered Option 1 off the menu and I ordered Option 2. the only difference was I received an amuse bouche which was a goat cheese crostini. She had an option of 3 entrees and choose the flank stank over polenta with asparagus and she loved it. My entrée was a gnocchi with lobster in a cream sauce and my only complaint was I could have eaten twice as much of it as it was so tasty. As it was, I ordered more bread so I could be sure to sop up all the remaining sauce. For dessert, my wife choose the strawberry trio and loved it. I ordered the pear and ice cream dessert which could use some work. We will definitely go back."

  • "Love this place. My husband and I have been many times before even though we have other choices. We keep coming back because it is consistently the best Italian restaurant in Pleasanton. That alone says a lot with the amount of Italian places to go to in Pleasamton. We took some people from out of town and they loved it."

  • "This was our first time eating at the restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised. The menu had a nice variety of items that are reasonably priced. The server was helpful in making selections. There is a good Fixed price selection at $26 to go with the a la carte. Two of us had the salmon covered in phyllo, one the halibut and the other the short ribs. All of us enjoyed the meal very much. We will definitely return. A nice find in Pleasanton."

  • "We are return customers to Forno Vecchio and chose it for NewYear's Eve. The Prie Fix selection was outstanding. Each dish was delicious. The pear-gorgonzola pancetta soup amazing. My husband had the lamb and I enjoyed the lobster gnocchi. The lobster was very generous and the lemon-pistachio cream sauce tho die for. Am looking forward to trying some of the tempting Sat. brunch items."

  • "Very nicely executed family restaurant. Menu is a single page, which means they focus on doing a few things well. And everything we tried was definitely done well. The truffle fries were amazing, and the warm brussels sprouts were quite tasty. We also had the lasagna and halibut…both done very well. Not quite sure about some of the nasty reviews here. There are many Italian restaurants to choose from on Main Street in Pleasanton, but this one belongs in the upper 25%. Especially nice was the greeting by one of the owners when we arrived. She made a sincere request that, if were not delighted with everything, that we bring it to her attention. That is rare indeed. Highly recommend you try this one for yourself."

  • "I found this place purely by accident a couple of years back. A friend and I were looking for a nice, classy quiet little place to go celebrate our birthdays and catch up. Most of the other resturaunts in Pleasanton are great but rather crowded and quite noisey especially if you are wanting to have some good conversation. We stumbled upon this place quite by accident and it has become a fast favorite of myself as well as many others. We have all been there on many different occasions but the service is always outstanding, the food is fantastic.. They have a pretty good bar and a great wine list. For fine dining and a quiet classy setting this place is by far one of the best in downtown Pleasanton. Keep up the good work!!!"

  • "Favorite thing on the menu is by far their truffle fries. Also enjoyed the apple tart with gelato. Main courses are good but nothing out of the ordinary. Service was very slow this evening. After being seated no one even came to our table for about 10 minutes. Server was extremely nice, either just new or inexperienced. I would give the restaurant another try as I'm sure the server just needs practice."
