A word from Fork Restaurant
Fork, acclaimed for its contemporary American cuisine for over 15 years, features 2014 Food & Wine Best New Chef Eli Kulp’s inventive-but approachable menu inspired by the region’s finest produce, seafood and meat as well as the area's deep history. Part of Fork's allure is its hip, stylish, sophisticated interior, where the dining experience is anything but stuffy and uncomfortable. Fork's hand-painted chandelier shades catch your eye as you look above the cast-concrete bar. Modern contemporary murals painted by Anthony DeMelas accentuate the height of the ceilings. Since opening, Fork has received the praise of many local and national publications, including the New York Times, USA Today, Town and Country, Food and Wine, Wine Spectator, Zagat's and Gourmet. Fork has received 15 Best of Philly awards from Philadelphia Magazine.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Was amazed at how busy this place was for a Monday night - really great atmosphere. Waited at the bar whilst our table was prepared - love the bar in the middle of the restaurant - creates a nice space. I had the trout cavier with bagel toast to start - that was delish. Then the sea bass afterwards. I am not a big eater so loved the portion sizes. Service was up and down. The hostess was lovely and very friendly. Our waiter however was a tad grumpy - my friend asked for recommendations on the menu and you could tell he was frustrated and just wanted my friend to choose so he could take the order. Tut tut. Remember these are the type of reviews that go on Open Table. Would I rush to go back - not quite so sure yet."

  • "Very disappointed in food. One guest had eggs benedict with pork belly, did not like the preparation at all. French toast was very good, but how easy is French toast? My winter salad was good, with some interesting ingredients."

  • "not that we have been here many times, but several times over several years amazingly, the restaurant always holds up, with every change that takes place creative and really good food, good service, and with people away at the shore on a friday night, it was not crowded and the noise level was excellent for a conversation with our guests"

  • "This was our third visit and a very disappointing one. The two hosts were rude and unfriendly. The food was just ok. My fish was actually inedible. The steak was fine as was the salad. I think Fork caters to regulars and true foodies so if you want the $95 chef's choice, you maybe OK. It is unfortunate because we had really enjoyed our first two experiences, years ago."

  • "We arrived 5 min before reservation. The place was empty but the host asked us to sit at the bar as they were preparing our table after "previous patrons". Odd because the restaurant was 90% empty- clearly wanted us to spend $$ at the bar. Bar tender then cool and unfriendly. Our waitress (Kim) provided attentive and excellent service. My appetizer (oysters), my pasta (black and white with seafood), and the duck (and related side dishes) were excellent. We tried 2 desserts-- goat cheese ice cream (curious but yuck!) and corn ice cream w blueberry poundcake (meh). Bar and seating filled by our departure at 9pm.. the noise level unpleasant and hard to talk at that point. We decided it was a fun night out but not likely to return."

  • "Friends and I have been going to Fork since it opened. We have consistently enjoyed the food, service and ambiance. A recent Brunch was disappointing. I had trouble finding something I wanted to eat. The bialey with house cured salmon was "designed" and served on a wooden board-a presentation deemed pretentious by all. An artistic smear of cream cheese was ridiculously meager and was difficult to scrape it off the board. A tuna melt was served on bread so thick and crusty that it was hard manage. One friend just took the lump of fish off the bread and ate each separately. The bread was delicious, just not well thought out in the dish. Fork is always worth going to. However, I will go elsewhere for brunch."

  • "With doors and windows wide open, the loud busses and trucks on busy Market Street seem part of the restaurant ambience"

  • "This is the first restaurant I have been to in a long time where the rating system does not do the establishment justice. If I could sum up the evening in one word it would be Perfect. Everyone we came in contact was friendly but not overbearing. They were professional without being stuffy. The plates were absolutely gorgeous. Every taste was nuanced and a bite into any portion was superb. Please get the tasting meal so you can see and eat the extras from the chef. I would have paid much more for this dinner."

  • "The food is just not good. The dessert tastes like rotten mud. My entree was good but all 3 other entrees were not edible. Sad to say but I wouldn't come back. Ever."

  • "We ended up here latish after a long meeting and event, so we weren't in it for the full experience...just a drink, an entree and, ultimately, one shared dessert among the three of us. All were fantastically good, but our server threw a lot of cold at the table when it became apparent that we weren't there for a bigger (pricier) experience. He wasn't rude, exactly, but made us feel a bit awkward. I later heard that attitude is this restaurant's most vulnerable point among Philly foodies. Roll with us, people, and we'll be back for that incredible sesame crusted, olive-oil poached fish dish."

  • "Fork is a great spot for lunch or dinner. I really enjoyed the Duck Confetti. The dessert was very good. I am definitely coming back to Fork. The staff was spot on as well."

  • "My group of seven dined here recently and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Menu, meals, service were all top notch. I especially enjoyed my fennel pappardelle."

  • "We ordered the prix fixe menu and were not disappointed. We were rewarded by all kinds of extra treats like crispy sour dough bread, cucumber soup, and pretzels stuffed with cheese. The mushroom and kale lasagna was decadent and dripped with creamy flavor. The entrees of crispy-skinned chicken and lamb three-ways were succulent and delicious. The white wine, recommended by our friendly and always helpful waiter, matched the meal with perfection. Fork it over anytime!"

  • "When ever I want to be sure of a novel menu with excellent food, I always think of the Fork. Favorite spot is eating at the bar. It seems to be the quietest spot in the restaurant and you can look out over Market St. My recent visit was for my birthday dinner and I invited friends who had never eaten there. They were very impressed by the food and the atmosphere. I'll return in a few months."

  • "From delicious cocktails to creative - but very edible- menu - Fork is wonderful. Plus, servers are efficient and friendly - not rushing you but also not making you wait. We had the table in the window - which was wonderful for celebrating birthdays of two out of four of us dining. Fork continues to be the restaurant to come back to!!!"

  • "Food was very creative and inventive. The full tasting menu offered a full array of tastes with many surprises. It is a great choice particularly if you are willing to explore dishes which you might not necessarily choose on your own. Tony and company offered top notch service. Cocktails and wine enhanced the experience."

  • "A meal at Fork is often outstanding. Innovative, imaginative, flavorful, food that looks good and tastes good. We love taking friends from out of town so we can show off one of Philadelphia's finest restaurant choices."

  • "My date and I had the duck feast and it was superb. On top of her delicious meal, my glass was never empty and our waiter was sure to explain every item of food before me. It was a lovely experience."

  • "Pretty place with great food and wonderful service. Staff was very welcoming and friendly. Enjoyed watching the open kitchen. The house-made gemelli with lamb ragu, pecorino and an egg was the winning choice. Good drink menu, good wine choices. Will definitely return for dinner."

  • "This has been one of my most wonderful dinning experiences. We, party of 3, have ordered the "House Menu" with four courses. Not only the food prepared with care and well-designed, each course is a feast for both the palate and the eye! Moreover, the server is very attentive, but never overbearing. She took time to explain and suggested something to my wife, when she needed a little help to select. They also served little tasty food between courses and they are special on their own. They were served by other staff, who are equally knowledgeable and courteous. My daughter agrees it was way worth the money, especially when compared with the NYC dining scenery, which would be two to three times more expensive. Again, this is a gem:)"

  • "Fork has been one of our favorite restaurants for years so we were looking forward to a return with some friends who had not been there last Sunday, after a bit of an absence. To our disappointment, somethng has been lost in recent transitions. The menu was still enticing on paper. However, my zucchini blossoms appetizer of the evening seemed to be collection of healthy looking but not very tasty titbits served with overgreasy blossoms. The highly touted tile fish was salty to the point of being inedible. Obviously, the taster bungled on that for the evening. Also, the cosmo, despite attempts at resurrection by the bartender, just did not taste like one. So we settled for the delicious aperol cocktail instead."

  • "The hype and sell was just not worth it. Expectations always lead to disappointments. Waitress did a wonderful job explaining I am sure what had been scripted. The presentation sell was subtle and worked We ordered based on this but we were all - "it's just OK" Nothing special and these days with the local competition it needs to be special."

  • "After visiting Fork many times over the years I can say it is now better than ever. Owner Ellen Yin, Chef Eli Culp, and GM Joey Campanella have created a world class dining experience that is not to be missed by anyone serious about food. It is worth a trip to Philadelphia to enjoy food, wine, and service as good as it gets anywhere."

  • "We were four old friends meeting for luncheon during a recent convention. Each luncheon dish was superb, with compliments all around. Their touch with Italian was superb. Each of us enjoyed our dishes. With friendly, considerate, and helpful service, this restaurant is a gem to be enjoyed repeatedly. Even the bourbon aperitif was delightful! Strongly recommend to anyone who enjoys fine food, great service help, and a friendly, local environment. No Philly attitude here!!"

  • "Mostly lives up to the hype but made the mistake of ordering tasting menu. Interesting dishes but I lack the patience for so many tiny bites and its not enough food - especially for the price. Server was good but stretched thin. Biggest complaint is wine list; researched several bottles prior to visit and those that retail for ~$20 are ~$80 on the list. This is unacceptable so brought own bottle and paid the $25 corkage."

  • "Wow - we were shocked by the poor service and average food. Will never return."

  • "I've loved this place for years, probably since it opened. It's beautiful inside, without a hint of pretentiousness. The food is top rate. The elegant owner is almost always there and almost always greets every diner. If you're in Philly and looking for an excellent and extremely pleasurable meal, don't miss it!"

  • "Fork has always been a favorite, but since Chef Kulp has arrived it has rapidly risen to one of the very best of Philly. Expensive but worth every penny."

  • "There is a reason chefs in the city eat at fork. It may be for the ideas but it is definitely for the tastes. They are nailing it. Inclusive of some of he best gluten free options I have tasted to date"

  • "I have been eating at Fork for over 15 years now. It used to be one of my favorites. But the food has really gone downhill these past few years. I am sad but have to take it off my list of restaurants in Philly."

  • "I hadn't been to Fork in quite some time. I don't think it lived up to its recent hype. The food was good and artfully presented. But the service was odd. We sat down at the bar for a drink It took 10 minutes to get our drinks. I have never seen bartenders in slow motion before. They were out of advertised Plymouth gin. While our meal service was fine, the tables on either side of us had problems. The wrong dishes were served at one table and the server asked if they wanted it anyway. The diners to our right finished dessert and then the server brought them bread and butter. He seemed to have forgotten they had already eaten. He realized his blunder and removed them. So while we didn't have a bad experience, it wasn't great either."

  • "All the food was great, service was great and the only complaint I have is the noise but that's unavoidable with a place that's so hot, hot, hot! Worth the noise for this quality of food."
