Forepaugh’s Restaurant is located in a beautiful Victorian mansion in the lovely Irvine Park area of Downtown St. Paul; a stones throw from Excel Energy Center and the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts. The building itself is a gorgeous, multi-functional (read: wifi), state of the art venue disguised as a charming, quaint and thoroughly authentic Victorian mansion. The seven intimate and artfully decorated dining rooms straddle the past and future gracefully, featuring both period décor and brilliantly conceived, cutting edge New American Cuisine. The wine list is expansive and supported by a wine cellar/chef tasting room that is available for small, intimate gatherings. The bar, comfortable and cozy, --featuring the finest in distinctive liquors and specialty drinks. And the service is excellent. Join us for a big night or a cozy romantic dinner. The food was delicious (scallops with pork belly- would assuredly recommend it, mango chicken mimosa, coconut trout(?) ). It was a quiet evening and all the staff were so friendly and gracious and didn't mind us 'snooping' around at all, in fact they encouraged it. Would be happy to return."

  • "We've been dining at Forepaughs for over 30 years, most often for special occasions like anniversaries. The Sunday brunch remains an outstanding offering and is quite affordable. Ownership changed a number of years ago and the menu for some time was a bit too eclectic for our tastes, but recently has been changed up to offer some of the more traditional menu items as when it used to be oriented mainly to French cuisine. The Victorian era structure and premises continue to be very well maintained and inviting, and the atmosphere in any of the many dining and casual areas is intimate and unique."

  • "Have not gone to this restaurant for a couple of years. Entire menu has been redone with the exception of the Beef Wellington. However the Beef Wellington that I ordered what not what I expected. The portion was much smaller than before and was a lot drier. The pate was less than before with the puff pastry on the outside was very dry and completelyO fell apart when touched with the fork. The portions were small for the price. The service we received was good. However, I was not impressed with the food. Even though they drastically changed the menu, I was hoping that the Beef Wellington was one that they left unchanged. Unfortunately I was mistaken."

  • "We had dinner at Forepaugh's mid week. Service and staff are friendly and helpful and the atmosphere in the old Victorian house is quiet and relaxing. The main menu is small but has some inventive taste selections. The appetizer selection is a great chance to try a new flavor or preparation and we enjoyed the goat cheese in smoked grape leaves."

  • "It was amazing the host that called to confirm my reservation knew me from my voice, he was very gracious to my lady as it was her birthday even wished her a happy birthday got us seated right away, took care of all of our needs. To top it off there was a slight mix up with our order so the chef sent us out 2 plates of Delicious appetizers to enjoy as our food was being prepared. We will definitely be dining at Forepaugh's again, Thank you for showing us a wonderful time!!!"

The meals are over priced and the food quality was poor at best. We could have had a much better meal at a nice chain for a third the money. I was hoping for so much better."

  • "We loved our brunch here. It's a beautiful old mansion, completely renovated. We were seated on the second floor at a table in a little nook by a bay window - very quiet & private. Brunch is served family style and included a beverage (we had the mimosas), yogurt, fruit, coffee cake, scrambled eggs, eggs Benedict, bacon, sausage & potatoes. Everything was good, but not inspiring. The atmosphere is unbeatable."

  • "I don't think I have ever been to a restaurant in a mansion. It was definitely unique and very charming. The menu is small which I don't mind as it is easy to make a decision. One of the entrees we wanted to try was sold out which was a shame, but I went with their signature dish, a beef wellington which was very good, my husband quite enjoyed his steak as well. Lot of beef on the menu. Wine selection was good and our server gave us a very good recommendation. Its quite a pricey menu, you are looking at $45-$55 for most entrees, so its a good special occasion restaurant. They allowed us to bring in our first anniversary cake which they cut and plated for us. They have valet parking for $7 but just across the street they have free parking."

  • "We chose Forepaugh's for our anniversary dinner. The service, especially being greeted at the door by John, was wonderful. Our server was attentive and suggested a walk in the park after our meal; a great suggestion. It was so refreshing not to be asked if we were "still working" on our food or worse yet, if we were "still picking at that!" We ate on the terrace and loved the view, the quiet (we could talk to each other in a normal voice) and the food was excellent. The walleye was so unexpected and I loved the sauce. The steak was also great and we were surprised by the complimentary dessert. The mansion is beautiful and we were encouraged to look around. No one rushed us, no one hovered too close. It was a wonderful evening."

John then guided us to our table relating the history of the house and informing us to explore the house. Service was great and the food was amazing. Highly recommend the deconstructed banana cream pie. Dining here was the highlight of our anniversary celebration."

  • "Had a wonderful time dining at Forepaugh's. We dined on a Saturday evening, was promptly seated at our reservation time (7:30 pm) but open tables were evident. Service was very attentive but not intrusive and water glasses were never more than half empty. Our server recommended a an excellent appetizer which arrived in a timely manner and our food arrived in similar fashion. We were never waiting nor rushed. The dinners ordered were the beef wellington and the ribeye which were both prepared to perfection and exactly as ordered. The flavor profiles with both meals (which were shared) were exceptional and paired well with the side dishes and the tuscan asparagus. We would highly recommend Forepaugh's and plan to return."

  • "I was taking my girlfriend out for our fourth dating anniversary and Forepaugh's made it a memory I will hold for life. It was the perfect transition from a day of fun to an evening of romance, as the dining staff captured the best elements of each. Neither my date nor I were ever left an empty glass, but the staff gave us enough privacy to share food and hold hands. The food was exquisite, making me fear for my wallet, but when the bill came I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the pricing was. I recommend the deconstructed banana cream pie for desert to share. Forepaugh's is the reason that I love dining."

The host and servers were top notch, the best I have ever seen.. They go the extra mile with everything they do! At the end of out wonderful dinner, a desert menu was presented to us. We were very full from dinner and salads, so we declined. The chef made the most creative desert for my wife, that we will never forget! Knowing that we were full, he made a small hot fudge sundae, drizzled "Happy Birthday" on the plate in chocolate. WHO DOES THIS??? I will be bringing my family back here. Thank you Forepaughs for making my wifes birthday so special!!"

  • "me and my wife were celebrating our 19th Anniversary. the ambiance was great (an 1870's era Victorian house, we love Victorian era homes), the service was outstanding, as was the food. we both had the beef wellington (excellent) and shared deconstructed banana cream pie for desert (maybe the best desert i ever had!). it was a little wait for the beef wellington, but we were in no rush and cannot knock them down on that considering how great everything else was. it had been a number of years since i had eaten here (i live 50 miles north of the cities) be we will definitely be eating here again!"
