A word from Foragers City Table
Foragers brings clean and ethical food of the highest quality to our customers by shortening the distance between farm and fork. We believe that it is worth going the extra mile to find foods that are healthy for human, animal, and land. We do so by bringing in many local products on our own distribution truck that delivers the best of the Hudson Valley weekly. We also grow our own vegetables and raise laying hens for eggs at our market garden in upstate New York. Since we opened in 2005, we have found many incredible people and products! We are happy to share our discoveries with you in our grocer, wine shop and restaurant.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Food excellent - service uneven - restaurant too cold near entrance"

  • "We were, as far as I know, some of the first to eat at this neighborhood restaurant, when it first began serving dinner. The first few week it was open we went almost each evening. The food was and is outstanding! The only complaint I would venture is that a few of the waitresses seem unfocused--friendly and polite but definitely not tuned in! Overall we think this is the best restaurant in our neighborhood. "

  • "A cute spot - but i expected more after write ups in NYT and NYer. The salmon main course was scraps of salmon instead of one piece, so all were cooked to different doneness - most overcooked. A $27 appetizer of asparagus, prosciutto and poached egg had blobs of barely cooked whites instead of a runny perfectly poached egg and there was so much going on on the plate in the dim light you couldn't tell what was what. A morel mushroom looked like a dollop of whole grain mustard. The hamachi in the appetizer was coated in a soy sauce mixture which masked the clean taste of perfectly fresh sushi. Overall the dishes tasted good, but not as pure and fresh as expected from "farm to table" where ingredients should shine."

  • "A fantastic experience. Others who complain about the noise must want to eat in the NY Public Library. The tasting menu was fantastic."

  • "One (if not THE) best in Chelsea. Sit at the bar and talk to the staff... So friendly! The food is prepared like art. It's fun to watch them work. The head chef is extremely talented ( and handsome!)"

  • "Left this average farm to table Chelsea restaurant very hungry and a little disappointed. The portion sizes were insultingly small and the water was dry and tasteless. The actual food was very good - but for the price per dish I would have expected more than 4oz of steak or 3oz of duck breast."

  • "Great brunch! Some delicious and unique vegetarian choices. The chili and orange blossom pancakes (smooth as soufflé) are super depending on if you want sweet or savory. Love the fresh mint on fruit salad. They list the farms that produce their ingredients! There is a unique twrist to many choices that makes this restaurant stand out! And you can buy organic food in the little grocery afterwards."

  • "Will definitely return to this gem. Scrumptious and beautifully presented food from start to finish. The deviled eggs are just like grandma's. Nice atmosphere, attentive service. Will definitely return."

  • "Had a wonderful meal at Foragers. I had the chicken which was perfectly cooked and my friend had the grain and veggie special which was delicious and very well prepared. Loved the ambiance and the service."

  • "In NYC for business and found this gem on Open Table. Ambiance was lively. Food was fresh and delicious. The wine list was varied and fairly valued. Three of had the Strip Sirloin - it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Great Job!"

  • "the seasonal quinoa special was excellent, every vegatable busting with flavor. the trumpet pasta with bolognese sauce and mushrooms was also excellent, creamy without being heavy and very flavorful. the deviled eggs and eggplant dip were generic."

  • "A wonderful meal, with great food and service. The only down sides are the cramped tables, unpadded chairs, and significant noise level. Definitely would return."

  • "They know what they do and do it well. Wish they would revamp desert menu though"

  • "Great farm to table restaurant - the food is fresh and mostly organic. Delish!"

  • "Two of us visited this restaurant when it opened a year or so ago, and thought it held promise - even that first weekend. It certainly hasn't disappointed. This was visit 3 or 4, and I was alone this brunch so sat at the bar. Service was quick and friendly, and the special omelette was a great recommendation. I also had side of the yummy pork sausage, which had a smooth texture not a bunch of gravel I had feared. The food was properly spiced for my liking, not too salty. I especially like the location, since it's in a neighborhood with a lot of C- places and then expensive fussy ones. This is great food, reasonably priced, freshly prepared and delivered with contemporary style. Welcome to the neighborhood!"

  • "Had the prix fixe dinner which was three courses in perfection. Flavorful salad full of wonderfully fresh and interesting ingredients, a yummy salmon with creamed kale and quinoa (did I say how yummy this was), and a chocolate torte with caramelized bananas and ice cream. The salad was large and the main course and dessert were portioned in a way that won't satisfy those who equate volume with value. Ate every single bite. I lived on 22nd Street a lifetime ago and would have eaten here every week had this place been here then."

  • "The service was professional and accommodating, without being hovering. The ingredients, preparation, and presentation of the dishes were outstanding, as was the dining experience of them."

  • "It's in a hotel. It's really really loud. And dark. I like the way you don't get served by a particular person (although I do think we had a waiter) - but anyone working there would take something away or bring something over or ask if we needed anything. I had sea bass which was very good - nothing outstanding but very good. The chestnut soup was outstanding. The tables were small. I was uncomfortable physically because of the proximity to the next table, the deafening noise, and how dark it was, so I didn't really have a great dining experience. It's attached to a little gourmet food shop. If I lived nearby I would probably get a lot of take-out from there but I wouldn't recommend eating in the restaurant."

  • "The good was fantastic. The service was perfect. My experience was so good that I decided to have dinner there again the following night. If you're looking for a delicious farm-to-table spot, look no further. Enjoy!"

  • "Brunch was delicious. We have been there numerous times for dinner and have never been disappointed. It is best to make a reservation because otherwise you could get turned away if it's a busy hour. We enjoy shopping in the market after we eat."

  • "FCT was a phenomenal experience all the way around! An employee named Joseph who is one of the Broadway Boys tipped me off to this place when we chatted after a performance in Easton PA. He recommended the tasting menu as an alternative to Restaurant Week. From the first bite of the bread to the last bite of the chocolate torte dessert, I cannot imagine a more perfect meal! The chestnut soup was amazing in both presentation and taste. The most tender, delicious salmon over red quinoa salad was most excellent. Joseph brought us complimentary deviled eggs with the smoothest yolks! Maple pot de creme with caramel and sea salt served with a nut brittle, and the sweetest vanilla ice cream I've ever tasted topped things off. Chocolate went to go!"

  • "Although the ambiance was definitely attractive we found the service to be not very organized. We waited several times for different parts of our meals to be delivered at many different times which made us wait for each other to be served before eating our dishes. And while the food itself was incredibly delicious and beautifully presented we found ourselves yearning for slightly bigger portions. I ordered the seared bass and I got a tiny filet measuring about 2" x 2" squared which probably came out to 4 ounces over a delicious micro salad. I think for the prices of these entrees they could have served us a little bit more and we wouldn't have been so disappointed."

  • "Finally, greens that taste authentic and terrific. This salad is getting me through the winter. Nice wines -- although tthese will easily drive up the price of dinner. Loved our pasta course too."

  • "We wanted to love this place but couldn't muster even to like it. The food was overly rich and extremely salty--even veggies. Didn't have the farm fresh taste we had hoped for. The service was rather absent and forgetful (for instance 30 mind after ordering a bottle of wine, it still hadn't arrived and we needed to remind the waitress). In short: a great concept but middling execution and definitely not worth paying $30 entree prices."

  • "I'm not usually your whole wheat and wild berries kind of diner. But the premise of this restaurant, which is tucked behind an upscale grocery that makes Whole Foods look like a bargain and is in the same building as the Chelsea Gem hotel, is that everything is as local as possible, as organic as possible and as tasty as possible. Luckily, that last is quite possible. This is a place that proves freshness counts. It also has a good wine list. The tables are far enough apart so that one can have a conversation. And the noise level was fine, though with the addition of a few more groups of diners, it amped up a bit. All in all, I'd go back."

  • "Food was good, service was excellent. The duck was crisp, tender and moist. Server was attentive but not intrusive. Restaurant was crowded with little room between tables."

  • "I rarely get excited about brunch spots, but everything was amazing here! And when you make a reservation and they honor the time, no extra waiting, which is wonderful! I had the waffles and they were the best waffles I have ever had in my life, the bacon jam and the syrup is the perfect salty sweet. My husband had the salmon tartine and he raved about it (coming from a jewish man who has had a lot of lox in life, that means a lot!). And the prices were super reasonable on top of it. Will definitely come back."

  • "… the offerings here are unusual and really delicious. Fresh, layered flavors with unique mixing of ingredients. Great wine pairings. We have been several times --- this time the service was not very good. We'll give it another chance as it seems to be an anomaly."

  • "Great atmosphere, relaxed, farm to table. Check it out!"

  • "-The room is small has a modern feel with floor to ceiling glass windows and concrete floors. The wood tables and chairs keep the room from feeling too cold. - The wait staff was friendly, knew the menu really well and made some great suggestions (black cod!!!) - We started with deviled eggs, hamachi & minted avocado, and a huge bowl of organic greens. - My black cod with organic cauliflower and asian broth was amazing, my husband had the duck and said it was excellent and our fiend loved his pork chops. The prices were really reasonable for their craft and quality. The entrees are on the small side so if you are hungry it is smart to order a few courses."

  • "Best dinner I've had in NYC in quite a while. Quality was unsurpassed. Portions were appropriate. Preparation and plating were excellent. Had to stop and thank the chef. Service was attentive and personable. My wife and I haven't stopped talking about it. Chestnut soup was a highlight. Roast chicken was perfect. Wild salmon was beautifully prepared. Salad, good portion, good mix of greens, well dressed. Desserts, original and excellent. Only peccadillo, they were out of the Bonny Doon dessert wine. If I were opening another restaurant, this would be it."

  • "foragers did a great little brunch, with a good selection of the usual suspects ranging from sweet to savory. lovely, friendly staff. the ingredients were clearly very nice. rosemary potatoes exceptional. nice, airy, open space."

  • "Went to this restaurant for the first time and didn't know much about it. It reminded me of places in Portland with emphasis on local, seasonal products. The food was outstanding! Everyone loved their meals and I will certainly be back. I did find the dessert menu a little limited and would have liked more variety in the options. My only actual complain was the busboy knocked over and spilled a glass of wine. It was an accident and I didn't mind, but the waiter should have come by and offered us another glass if we wanted. But overall the restaurant was great and I will be back!"

  • "Forager is the kind of place that makes you feel good just being there. It is calm, convivial, and the perfect canvas for a great catch up with good friends. The time and care put into the selection of the freshest ingredients is evident in every bite. The roasted chicken (which I never order in restaurants) is savory and delicious. Two thumbs up."
