Diner Reviews
  • "The food was mediocre at best. We couldn't cut the pork. Sent it back. They offered to replace it with anything on the menu. We asked for the steak. They tried to charge us for both. The strawberry shortcake was totally dry and tasteless. And it's expensive. Avoid it. Redwood wins hands down."

  • "We have always had excellent food here, but now I'm not sure we'll ever be back. We were seated on time with our toddler. Then, everything went down hill. Our waitress ignored us for the entire evening. We're generally patient people, but 30 minutes for apps and over 80 min for mains was frustrating. What was beyond ridiculous was that my wife's glass of champagne arrived exactly 38 minutes after ordering (after our delayed apps were already pretty much eaten), and after reminding her twice. Then, I had to change my son on the bathroom floor (my own pet peeve). We skipped dessert because we couldn't take it any more. I've had better service from high schoolers at Applebee's. The service ruined my night despite good food (at over $200)."

  • "Didn't really have many expectations. But from start to finish, the food was consistently excellent. Their "30 Minute Roasted Chicken" - not the sort of thing I would typically order at a nice restaurant - may have been the best chicken I've ever had. All the members of our party were similarly happy. We will be back!"

  • "Looking for something different in Bethesda? This is the place. Creative dishes . . . but not "precious" like Newton's Table. A place to experiment a bit, without breaking the bank. Recommended."

  • "I've eaten here four times. Three out of four the food was great. Great charred octopus, fantastic truffle burger. Salad dressing a little too sweet. Great service. This time I was there for lunch so it was less busy, less noisy and more attentive service. Overall I would give it 4.5 stars."

  • "The service was quick, and just the right amount of helpful, without feeling like we were being smothered. The best grilled tuna and burger we've ever had, and the chocolate bar dessert was amazing."

  • "Everything tasted very fresh. Great flavor combinations. Curry mussels!"

  • "One mixed drink and a glass of club soda , at the bar, $16 not including tip! The char was properly done but the sauce was lack luster in taste and appearance. The patio was at least less noisy then the main dinning room."

  • "we went for an early dinner at 4 :30, place was empty. The food was well presented and prepared. Wine list was good, offered a nice variety, a bit pricey. The service was the best part, impeccable. Maybe because they were not busy."

  • "Came to Bethesda to have dinner with an old friend. The food was exceptional, the service was outstanding and no one hurried us along. We were able to talk and enjoy a wonderful meal in a very quaint atmosphere. My friend recommended your restaurant and I'm glad I listened to him. Thanks for a wonderful evening and lots of memories."

  • "Have dined here twice in the past couple of months. Both visits were very good - dined outside both times. Very good service, excellent food. Especially love the charred octopus and every seafood dish we've had has been outstanding and cooked to perfection. Outside dining assures a noise level conducive to conversation."

  • "Food very good; service at best mediocre. we waited too long to even have server drop by, then drinks were forever getting there and wine came much later (even though one of the people was only drinking wine), then he brought wrong salad after all that waiting."

  • "Had dinner here the other night with a new work colleague. Overall liked the ambiance. Waiter was knowledgeable and not too insistent even though it was busy evening. I enjoyed my lamb burger with truffle fries though my colleague thought the truffle burger was a little too rich."

  • "It has been a while since we had a meal at Food Wine & Co. It was a lovely meal with standard dishes with unique twists that all tasted delicious! We had Grueyere mac n cheese, Kale, and a gourmet truffle burger. Look forward to our next meal! Only disappointment was that validated parking is not covered for lunch, only for dinner."

  • "Highly recommend! Great place for a group. Good wine selection. For starters we had oysters -- fresh and delicious! Truffle burger, steak salad, mussels, roasted chicken, Atlantic Char -- all great -- everyone enjoyed their meals. Server was attentive and food arrived quickly. Bar stools are very comfortable and bartenders are friendly. Located in the heart of Bethesda, it was very convenient for everyone in our group."

  • "We dined here after a matinee at Roundhouse theater. Had teens/young adults in the party and the food combos and prep were a bit too fancy for their taste so definitely more geared for foodies. Hamburger is $17."

  • "The food was great, but don't plan on having a conversation at this restaurant."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Ceviche was delicious and so was the house un-oaked Chardonnay. We later had the grill octopus and sausage platter. Both were also very good. The charcuterie was average, but the service made up for that. Overall, an excellent place to go with friends, family, or business associates."

  • "We were quite disappointed as many of the items on the menu were not available on this particular Sat pm. Had to settle and order something I really did not fancy. It was a great dish....but not what I had in mind after my initial choice was not available"

  • "Food was exceptional, service was excellent and our dining experience was worth the money spent. My only reservation would be that the entree portion of the menu was VERY limited."

  • "Had to try the truffle burger since it made the cover of the Washingtonian. It was good with a nice helping of beef, it on the pricey side for a hamburger. My waiter was extremely nice and personable. In fact, all the wait staff was exceptional for a non-fine-dining establishment."

  • "The portions were way too large. The truffle fries were limp, greasy, and over salted. The lamb burgers didn't live up to he description. The brioche bread pudding was great."

  • "We dined here early on a Saturday night so it was very quiet when we arrived and when we left the joint was jumping! Our server had only been working there a few days but was excellent, smooth and attentive and patient. He just wasn't able to offer first hand knowledge of the all the food yet. Three of us had the roast chicken that takes 30 minutes because they make it fresh and it was really tasty. It came with spaetzle and a little kale. I would have preferred more green. One had the char and declared it the best he'd ever eaten. Nice wine choices, we would definitely go back but not at a busy time because of the noise. Decor is modern, comfortable and attractive."

  • "We had not been here in a few months. We found some new menu items, the same great quality of food and service and a special deal on a great bottle of wine that was being discontinued (due to Montgomery County decisions, not the restaurant)."

  • "Best hamburger I ever had; remarkably fast service; truffle fries to die for."

  • "I was in town for a conference and discovered this gem on an evening walk. I enjoyed the food and found the shared table I was placed at particularly delightful. What's more, by sticking to sides and small plates I was able to have a tasty vegetarian meal for under $30 at dinner."

  • "I was looking for a place close to the Round House Theater in Bethesda. Only .3 mile away was Food, Wine & Co! Although having a limited menu, the scallop salad I ordered was outstanding! Very good service, and nice spacing between tables."

  • "We both ordered the salmon burger and beyond a doubt, hands down, it was tasty and cooked to perfection! The salad was fresh and we shared the delicious seasoned chips. Good day for a "foodie"."

  • "Food Wine and Co. in Bethesda is a great new restaurant on Wisconsin Av on the outskirts of downtown Bethesda. It has a very good wine list and a sophisticated menu. Our service was terrific and the food was as good as described on the menu. And, parking is a lot easier than downtown Bethesda. I think we'll go there on regular basis."

  • "We went for Fathers Day and had a great meal. The food was well prepared. The most intersting thing about the meal was the wine flight; you get to choose three wines to sample with dinner. We had a Malbec from Argentinia, a Cabernet Sauvignon from South Africa and a Bordeaux from France."

  • "Decided to go for Father's Day. Sat on patio our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. Great food, Halibut and Truffle burger super delicious. Manager helped us to pick a great bottle of wine. Will be back"

  • "Not like it has been in the past. The shrimp with the mussels were overlooked and mushy. The skin on the Arctic char was like wet paper, not crisp. Siunds picky, but fpr $25 per entree these should be better. We were at a table, but served by a bartender who was hard to find."

  • "We took another couple here for dinner before a play at nearby Round House Theatre. It was an excellent choice. Our waiter was even a one time actor who made sure we finished in time. The service was excellent, timely, and efficient. The food was delicious. We recommend and will be back."

  • "I was under the impression that this is a sophisticated place to dine. This was our first foray there and we were underwhelmed. When we arrived on time for our 7:30 reservation the place was packed with families in jeans and shorts with kids and a whole row of folks waiting for tables were jammed into seats by the entrance, looking like Denny's. We eventually were seated in a non-descript booth; our waiter was ok but never came back to check on the Arctic char I sent back because of undercooking. My wife's King Salmon was a really small piece of fish for $32 but was otherwise good. The wine list is excellent. We thought the pickled eggs were tasty but a really small portion and the fried sweet potatoes just ok. Doubt we'll be back."

  • "The night started off bad-poor service at bar-never did get a drink. The host and hostess told us to go and get one-happy hour-half price-bartender said he couldn't get to us?! I asked if they would honor the happy hour price at our table-they said no. Food was good-but no one ever recognized that it was a special birthday-on that night! Disappointing. Will probably never go there again. too many other good restaurants to try."

  • "We have been here many times, including several pre-theater dinners and have always enjoyed our meal. Our most recent visit was earlier this week. The service was great. The server was knowledgable and prompt with filling the order so we had plenty of time to finish and then walk to the theater. The menu changes periodically which is great but this time I had a difficult time since the menu did not have enough poultry selections for me. The emphasis was on seafood and red meats. The variety and creative choices overall were very good. Our party of 4 all enjoyed the menu selections we chose. The food was prepared and presented well."
