A word from Food Dance
We're very serious about food, but atmosphere is casual at Food Dance. We begin by sourcing the freshest ingredients from our family of farms. Starting with Norm's free range eggs in your omelet to J&S farm's fruit we preserve in-house for our cocktails, you will find great full flavored food on our menus. We work to build relationships with the farmers, ranchers, cheese makers and producers of fine food that share our same values.

We look forward to giving you a great experience; celebrating, meeting or just enjoying one of our fabulous cocktails inspired by the seasons. Join us for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

  • "Love that you use local, fresh foods. Food was so good!! Thanks."

  • "The food was simply delightful and it was delivered in a very timely fashion. The food is pricey, but worth it."

  • "Food Dance is one of my "go to" restaraunts to take out of town company to. Also a regular meeting place with family. Brsides great food, we love that we can purchase cheese and other items on the way out. We have attended some of their events too, wine and cheese tasting etc. Food Dance cares about food! they seek out local creameries an actually get involved in the meat they serve. A rare and very welcome thing for me. The wait staff has always been knowledgable and given great service. I don't think I have ever walked away disappointed. They are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Just good to know before you walk in the door."

  • "I have been to Food Dance a two time before and have always been impressed with service and the food! I went there for my birthday and it was, yet again, a fantastic dining experience. Great service, great food, and great fun!"

  • "Ordered 2 drinks from the bar-took 20 mins to get, ordered Crab Cakes for 3 dining and was not prompted that the standard order is two cakes-we promptly cut two cakes for the three of us and made it work. We never received nor were asked about bread. Two salads were ordered, and the meat loaf. Order took 30 min to get to the table after the crab cakes. I would tip 20% of the bill - she got 15% of the $100 tab. She was having distractions in the unused meeting area to the east of the dining room"

  • "We had a family get - together at Food Dance after a funeral. We all travelled to Kalamazoo from different states and stayed in hotels for 2-3 nights so our meals together were special. The service was excellent! The food was great and the atmosphere was perfect."

  • "Delightful food, great service, energetic but not loud atmosphere"

  • "It was excellent. Clever menu. The decor was wonderful, warm, friendly, and cozy. The service was very friendly and the food was incredible....All at incredible value."

  • "The food was excellent as was the service. It is my restaurant of choice when I visit Kalamazoo. The only request I would like is that the menu say that the portions are rather large and that half portions are available. I forget to request it small portions and have no way to store my leftovers. Such a dilemma. Thank you."

  • "Original fine-dining menu at very reasonable prices in a casual, everyday setting. Good service, friendly and just attentive enough. The stand-out point about this place is the varied and interesting menu. From the admittedly limited sampling of that menu we had the preparation fulfills the promise of a delicious and interesting meal."

  • "Service was very professional! Appreciated that our waitress was on top of everything, had a lovely personality, and proved she knew the menu very well. Restaurant was clean and atmosphere was great."

  • "Food was amazing. I had the Butternut Squash entree and also some of the Korean Flank Steak. Also, sampled one of their salads and the Chocolate Guinness Cake. Everything amazing. Wait staff was very helpful and pleasant. Look forward to eating her again!"

  • "I live nearby to Food Dance and go there often for breakfast and dinner. I love the focus on local and seasonal ingredients. The menu changes often, and I appreciate all the vegetarian options. One of my favorite spots for a unique breakfast too!"

  • "I'm not a stranger to different foods but I will say this restaurant is probably number 1 on my list of unique food choices. I had dinner with two of my girlfriends and we all ordered something different and shared. I wasn't a fan of the curried chick peas but I'll try anything once. I will definitely be coming back here with my husband. The wine list is amazing!"

  • "Love the chicken pate, as well as the new salmon/shrimp pate! The chocolate dessert with orange curd was absolutely, melt in your mouth, amazing!!! Alway a favorite restaurant of ours!"

  • "First time. Bigger than we thought. Pleasant atmosphere. Excellent waitperson, Rob. Martinis very good, reasonably priced. Great homebaked bread. Main course was disappointing. Yes it's all local or regional. . . nice. But, menu is somewhat limited and attempts to be exotic. However, wife had ultimate mac & cheese and said flavor was dull - need more seasoning. I had the porkchop. Looked good on the plate, however, it was more fat than meat. Will we try it again? Probably, but will try lunch next time. May give dinner one more chance."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our anniversary with a dinner at Food Dance. We were amazed at the unique drink selection, extensive wine list and variety of local beer on tap. The food was amazing! Great choices for those of us with specific allergies. I had the trout dish which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My husband had one of their burgers on a homemade bun with hand cut french fries, which he also loved. Service was top notch, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly without being in your face! Our server shared his personal experience at one of the local breweries with us and recommended a cider ale for my rather choosey husband, which my husband ended up loving! Great experience and we will definitely be going back."

  • "We have found Food Dance to be a wonderful spot to visit when we are visiting our son at Kalamazoo College. The staff is welcoming and extremely knowledgeable and the food has been consistently excellent. We first visited on the recommendation of friends, and we have passed that along to others."

  • "As always, great atmosphere and delicious food. A wonderful, vibrant place in an old and repurposed downtown building, this restaurant has an urban flair and a fabulous locavore emnu. Never disappoints!"

  • "Great food and setting. Food served promptly after ordering. Service was a little slow especially after being seated and waiting to order a cocktail."

  • "Food Dance's local and upscale American menu has consistently been one of my favorites in Kalamazoo. The food was always fresh and interestingly prepared, American classics with global influences and locally sourced. I fully support that idea and love their atmosphere and service . This time they really disappointed on the food. My burger was so salty I didn't finish it, the fries were burned, cold, soggy and again extremely over salted. My friend's roasted cauliflower was burned. I didn't complain at the time due to our evening schedule. This type of execution should never be a problem for a $20 burger. I'll give Food Dance another go because of past, more satisfactory experiences. Hopefully it does not happen again."

  • "Had Valentine's day dinner there. Service was excellent. The place was a little crowded, but as to be expected for the special occasion. My reservation was was honored and I was promptly seated."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "We got a cheese plate, korean flank steak, and the salmon. All the food was fantastic. Service was great. Our waitor helped us pick out some of the cheese. The ambience is very nice. A lot of stuff to look at without being too distracting. Very much enjoyed the entrance to the resturant and the stuff you could purchase. First time being to this resturant, I am sure I will be back."

  • "The only thing that threw me off was the decor. It seemed to be normal upscale modern until you noticed the giant fake corn stalks. I understand what they were going for being all about fresh and organic food, but it just seemed out of place with the style of the rest of the place. And that is literally my only "complaint", and it didn't affect my evening at all. I had great service, and the food was spectacular. I was very glad I had reserved my table through open table, the restaurant was packed for Valentine's Day but we were seated immediately even though we got there about 10 minutes early."

  • "I got the salmon, which is one of my favorite things on the menu. The flavors and textures are perfect. My husband got a burger, which was outstanding, with the exception of the soggy bun because the burger was so juicy. We had the fondue as an appetizer which was great, too. FoodDance never disappoints."

  • "I have always loved this restaurant because of their company goals and ethics. I am a vegetarian and try my best to eat locally and organically. The fact that food dance makes their meals according to high ethics makes it admirable to me. I went their for a Valentine's Day dinner and was thoroughly impressed again. Their staff were friendly and highly knowledgeable about the food; the appetizers and entrees were served promptly. I had the maple butternut squash- this was the best meal I have ever had. Well done Food Dance."

  • "We were disappointed there were no potato options besides fries. For anyone on a special diet it was very limiting. Steak was good. Salad was good. Steak came with brussel sprouts but no other veg option. We love food dance but the options wrre a little limiting. Please consider baked potatoes and othet potatoe choices and veg. choices. Fries came as an app .rather than with our meal as we ordered. We had a good time."

  • "Me and the wife go out maybe 4 times a year to eat. We love to cook and are home bodies so when we do go out we want something new and something we can't make at home with the help of Americas Test kitchen on PBS. This was our choice for our anniversary dinner and it was wonderful. The place looks great, wine list is impressive and the food delivered. I had the Sesame Ginger Salmon and it was wonderful. Our server was on top of everything and very professional. Its exactly what we wanted and wish we lived closer to K-zoo."

  • "Food dance is always amazing. Food dance is normally one of my top choices in kalamazoo! Normally I will have breakfast there, this time I went for dinner. The service was great, her mane was steph! She was so attentive, no dirty plate was left at the table for any length of time after I was done with it. I loved that!"

  • "Food Dance is my go to place for when I have guests from out of town. It's sure to impress and the service is like no where else in town. I tried the restaurant week menu and liked it a lot."

  • "Food Dance is a wonderful place to have a nice dinner to celebrate a special occasion. My fiance and I came here to celebrate him landing a new job, and it was a wonderful dinner with wonderful service. He had the New York Strip, I had the Macaroni & Cheese. Both were delicious, and were at our table within 15 minutes of ordering! Their wine and drink list is exceptional and the service is fantastic. A bit too pricey to make a routine out of it, but I hope to have several more special occasions in the future so we can spend them at Food Dance!"

  • "Was promptly seated in a location that was quiet and with a view. We were dining early so got to see the restaurant fill up during our meal. Our Hostess was very pleasant and helpful with the menu. There was a group celebrating with a Baby shower, a family with young children and several adult groups seated around us. Food was excellent and very healthy. Really enjoyed the fact that the food is from local suppliers. Would highly recommend this for others looking for an enjoyable place to entertain."

  • "We had a very disappointing experience at Food Dance. We came in from Grand Rapids and were really let down. The hostess bordered on condescending which set the tone. The women who seated us was friendlier and seated us at a nice quiet spot. However, our server could not have been more unfriendly. She clearly did not want to be working and pushed us through the ordering process. Our appetizer, meals, dessert and the bill came so fast we felt we were being pushed out the door. We enjoyed our appetizer but our entrees left a lot to be desired. Both entrees lacked flavor and it felt like we were at a chain restaurant as opposed to a place valuing high quality food. I may return to the market but most certainly won't return to the restaurant."

  • "I went out with my boyfriend for our anniversary dinner and everything went great! The service was great, staff was friendly, and the food and drinks were awesome! My only complaint would be that it was a bit loud, but nothing so intense that we couldn't hear each other. Overall, a great experience. I would definitely go back and recommend this to anyone in the area looking for great, farm fresh food."
