A word from Food Dance
We're very serious about food, but atmosphere is casual at Food Dance. We begin by sourcing the freshest ingredients from our family of farms. Starting with Norm's free range eggs in your omelet to J&S farm's fruit we preserve in-house for our cocktails, you will find great full flavored food on our menus. We work to build relationships with the farmers, ranchers, cheese makers and producers of fine food that share our same values.

We look forward to giving you a great experience; celebrating, meeting or just enjoying one of our fabulous cocktails inspired by the seasons. Join us for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Diner Reviews
  • "I definitely enjoyed my meal at Food Dance, but have to admit that I missed some of the items off the old menu. I actually had trouble finding something I really wanted this time. In the end, I had the fish and salad. Both were good."

  • "We were our annual trip to Michigan, staying in South Haven and met friends for lunch at Food Dance. The food was spectacular. We had a drink with sorbet that was to die for. It was group of eight. We were seated immediately and the service and staff were excellent! Wo.uld highly recommend"

  • "Food Dance never disappoints. One of a few Kalamazoo restaurants that serves consistently good food."

  • "wait staff and bar staff were outstanding! Very friendly, knowledgable and helpful. Good place for group dinners; I like that they use local and organic food / ingredients"

  • "Food Dance started out with innovative ideas but has succumbed to a mediocre menu with accompanying french fries. I would like some vegetarian choices. And, I think the writer of the menu needs to rethink food descriptions. One could look at the whole menu and not be enticed by any item; it all sounds plain and pedestrian. Little vibe, little food of interest, little creativity. P.S. it is hard to respond to your rating system for how would one recommend the restaurant. it is not "great", nor a "hot spot", nor a "find'. It gets customers because it resides in a city with a vacuum of interesting places to eat and no fine dining."

  • "My friends and I kept hearing about Food Dance but for whatever reason never made it. So glad we did! Food and staff were amazing! I highly recommend the fondue and charcuterie plate!"

  • "We have never been disappointed with food selections. Always as beautiful as delicious. Service was outstanding...not only your typical food recommendations but hints on warming our leftovers. We were accommodated with our table request. Our out-of-staters, from Madison,WI, were very impressed. They even found some of their farmers' market selections in the store...Potters crackers and a cheese or two."

  • "Food Dance never disappoints in terms of excellent food, excellent presentation of food, and service. They also have outstanding desserts. Whether breakfast, lunch, or dinner, it is a gem in this community."

  • "Food Dance was a favorite spot for my wife and I for many years. Recently we decided to celebrate a birthday dinner here. The ambience was energetic and inviting. The service was exceptional and catering to every need. Grammie even had a birthday card from the staff waiting for yer when we're seated. Things started to go South however as we started to flip through the menu. The prices were mind boggling compared to recent visits. Granite, they use all fresh and local ingredients but this does not justify the cost....unless the prepared meals are exceptional. The cooks are going WAY over board trying to add flavor. Example. Black and Bleu burger with Honey Bunn was actually nauseating to eat. One example from 6 bad meals of 9 at our table."

  • "My wife and I went to Food Dance for her birthday. We had such a great time. From walking in the door to walking out of the door, we were treated wonderfully and enjoyed every aspect of Food Dance. Warning: there is no dancing at Food Dance."

  • "Food Dace never disappoints. This is one of our favorite places to eat in the area and the food is always delicious and the staff is outstanding. The specials are amazing and they use the freshest local ingredients to prepare them. Our food was great (the fondue is amazing) and my cocktail was artfully prepared and very good. We love the market also. So convenient to grab something tasty on your way out for friends, family or as a treat for yourself! Keep it up Food Dance, we will be back for sure!"

  • "Salmon entree, coffee, wine, desert were excellent. Service excellent. Would prefer to have had more choices for vegetarian options. That is my only criticism."

  • "As a group of six old friends we were taken care of royally! We were given time to converse without interrupting until we were ready to order. The food was excellent! The wait staff wonderful."

  • "My husband and I went here based on recommendations from the B&B we were staying at and locals we met while we were in Michigan for our Honeymoon. We walked in and were very impressed by the meat selection displayed in the meat counter. When we checked in with the Hostess she was texting and had asked another young man to seat us. Our waitress was not overly friendly. It took her a bit to come to our table and get our drink order and then assumed we would order immediately. We asked about the steak we saw up front and she told us "we don't cook that here." Our food was brought out without regards to our request and we did not see our waitress again until she brought out of bill."

  • "My son lived in Kalamazoo and recommended this restaurant to us. The dining experience was very enjoyable. Food was good. Service was good. Easy to find. Ample parking. Quiet enough to be able to talk and carry on a conversation with one another. Overall good dining experience."

  • "I have eaten here only twice because we are not from Michigan. When we visit our son and daughter-in-law we come here for a special treat. The food here is fantastic, for all courses. We save it for special occasions because it can be pricey but is definitely worth it. I can't say enough great things about this restaurant!"

  • "I have been to Food Dance a handful of times over the last four years, and it is always a great dining experience. I have been there for work functions, with friends and family, and on dates, and I leave satisfied every time. The sesame ginger salmon is my favorite entree, and when preceded by the square dance salad, I am one happy person (though one overstuffed person). During my most recent visit to Food Dance, I tried a customized meat and cheese board before my entree instead of the square dance salad, and felt this was a nice change."

  • "We had a family gathering here. The server was great and the food was pretty good although I have had better lamb. It was a little on the resilient side."
    Dined on 5/22/2014
  • "Food dance has a warm welcoming atmosphere and Since I made a reservation for my wife's birthday they were even thoughtful enough to put a birthday card on the table signed by the staff. Great people great food!"

  • "I've visited this place every few years for as long as it's been open (including in its former location). It just gets better and better. Spring is late this year so there was not the usual flood of asparagus-themed dishes, but I had terrific broiled salmon, and my companions were happy with the Mac and Cheese (with chicken) and the pork loin. Service was just a little bit too intrusive at first but it mellowed out once we got our food; the place was packed but everything came promptly. I love this place!"

  • "I frequently eat out do to traveling for work. This is one of the best restaurant I have eaten at in a long time. The menu had many unique selections. My meal and the service was great. Could not ask for a better experience."

  • "The service was really great only to be topped by the fantastic food. All 4 of us were thoroughly pleased with the taste. It was a prom night, but that did not impede the kitchen or our server. "

  • "This place is off the charts, I just loved it, and so did my date."

  • " I've been to food dance several times and would really recommend it. I absolutely love it. I also love the market next to it with the desserts and all. My girlfriend is very picky and she still can find food she likes there. I just love everything about it. Especially that their food is all local. "

  • "We were 9 of us and we were taken to the back of the restaurant which was bit secluded. We really liked it for our discussion purposes. The food was great. I ordered Sesame ginger Salmon over rice cake which was bit overcooked. Our server Kerri was great. Majority of the group was teenagers and she was very patient with everyone. Their dessert menu is out of this world. Overall, the ambience was great. definitely worth checking out!"

  • "We have been going to Food Dance for many years. It is our favorite place to celebrate pretty much any and all special occasions. The food is always spectacular and the staff is wonderful! The ambiance is unique and the food is always fresh and local. If you are looking for a special experience, Food Dance is the place to go!"

  • "All of the waitstaff was phenomenal! We got to chat with workers in the bakery area, and they were so bubbly and genuinely interested in my graduation and plans afterward. I wanted to buy a little mouse they used to sell, and when it turned out they were discontinued, three of the workers searched all over for about five minutes to try and find an extra one for me (they didn't find one, but it was sweet that they tried!) The food was very good (a little pricey, but I understand)- and what truly sealed the deal for me was that they had left me a signed congratulations card. I was so touched! I would highly recommend this restaurant for graduation dinners."

  • "Very odd menu selection, while the appitizers were wonderful the entres left alot to be desired. Halibut at $30 was warm with a cold sauce, cobb salad was huge but asked for NO blue cheese and it was loaded with it. Leg of lamb was a very small slice and Not Hot.... Flank Steak? Are you kidding me... I don't get it, there was a little shop in the lobby of the restaurant with a wonderful selection of meats and cheeses but the only steak they offered on the menu was a Flank Steak? For a restaurant that appears to be a healthy choice option they primarily had burgers on their menu. Would I go again? Not likely, for an appitizer maybe. At $250 for 6 people I expected alot more. "

  • "The design and decoration of the restaurant was very nice and the wait staff was helpful, friendly and attentive. The food, however, was just OK for the price. The portions were generous and I have nothing particularly bad to say about the dishes, they just weren't something we'd ever order again for the cost. At our table we had Square Dance entree salad. It was large. There was plenty to take home for a second meal, but since it was dressed, we passed. Ask for the dressing to come on the side. Caesar dressing was too fishy. We got the pasta special which was scallops, bacon, peas, artichokes, w/angel hair spaghetti. The scallops were perfect. The artichokes were meh. Three of us dined and each had an adult bev. $101+tip."

  • "Our visit to Food Dance was the focus of our evening in Kalamazoo. The food and wine were delicious, as we knew they would be. But our waiter managed the pace of the meal perfectly, and that exceptional service is what made our visit truly special."

  • "This was the perfect spot for my family to help celebrate my graduation from WMU's Ph.D. program. My kids had several choices that they liked, the food was excellent, and the service was top notch! Our waitress even quietly asked about dessert to avoid the kids hearing about it. "

  • "From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff, the decor was very inviting and comfortable. Then the food, wow, just amazing! The level of quality and presentation was just perfect. Being that the kind of local farm to table type of restaurant, you expect a very high quality meal with fresh ingredients, which I've had before, but this was on another level entirely. Both my girlfriend and I consider ourselves to be foodies, and have been to a number of very high quality restaurants, and we agreed this place is by far, the best resturant she's ever been to. We consider ourselves to be food "

  • "Food Dance is one of my "go to" restaraunts to take out of town company to. Also a regular meeting place with family. Brsides great food, we love that we can purchase cheese and other items on the way out. We have attended some of their events too, wine and cheese tasting etc. Food Dance cares about food! they seek out local creameries an actually get involved in the meat they serve. A rare and very welcome thing for me. The wait staff has always been knowledgable and given great service. I don't think I have ever walked away disappointed. They are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Just good to know before you walk in the door."
