A word from Food Dance
We're very serious about food, but atmosphere is casual at Food Dance. We begin by sourcing the freshest ingredients from our family of farms. Starting with Norm's free range eggs in your omelet to J&S farm's fruit we preserve in-house for our cocktails, you will find great full flavored food on our menus. We work to build relationships with the farmers, ranchers, cheese makers and producers of fine food that share our same values.

We look forward to giving you a great experience; celebrating, meeting or just enjoying one of our fabulous cocktails inspired by the seasons. Join us for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Diner Reviews
  • "As a group of six old friends we were taken care of royally! We were given time to converse without interrupting until we were ready to order. The food was excellent! The wait staff wonderful."

  • "My son lived in Kalamazoo and recommended this restaurant to us. The dining experience was very enjoyable. Food was good. Service was good. Easy to find. Ample parking. Quiet enough to be able to talk and carry on a conversation with one another. Overall good dining experience."

  • "I have eaten here only twice because we are not from Michigan. When we visit our son and daughter-in-law we come here for a special treat. The food here is fantastic, for all courses. We save it for special occasions because it can be pricey but is definitely worth it. I can't say enough great things about this restaurant!"

  • "Good food, good ambience. Definitely a gem. Downtown kalamazoo. Great food and amazing beers"

  • "I have been to Food Dance a handful of times over the last four years, and it is always a great dining experience. I have been there for work functions, with friends and family, and on dates, and I leave satisfied every time. The sesame ginger salmon is my favorite entree, and when preceded by the square dance salad, I am one happy person (though one overstuffed person). During my most recent visit to Food Dance, I tried a customized meat and cheese board before my entree instead of the square dance salad, and felt this was a nice change."

  • "We had a family gathering here. The server was great and the food was pretty good although I have had better lamb. It was a little on the resilient side."
    Dined on 5/22/2014
  • "Food dance has a warm welcoming atmosphere and Since I made a reservation for my wife's birthday they were even thoughtful enough to put a birthday card on the table signed by the staff. Great people great food!"

  • "I've visited this place every few years for as long as it's been open (including in its former location). It just gets better and better. Spring is late this year so there was not the usual flood of asparagus-themed dishes, but I had terrific broiled salmon, and my companions were happy with the Mac and Cheese (with chicken) and the pork loin. Service was just a little bit too intrusive at first but it mellowed out once we got our food; the place was packed but everything came promptly. I love this place!"

  • "I frequently eat out do to traveling for work. This is one of the best restaurant I have eaten at in a long time. The menu had many unique selections. My meal and the service was great. Could not ask for a better experience."

  • "This place is off the charts, I just loved it, and so did my date."

  • "The service was really great only to be topped by the fantastic food. All 4 of us were thoroughly pleased with the taste. It was a prom night, but that did not impede the kitchen or our server. "

  • " I've been to food dance several times and would really recommend it. I absolutely love it. I also love the market next to it with the desserts and all. My girlfriend is very picky and she still can find food she likes there. I just love everything about it. Especially that their food is all local. "

  • "While vacationing in southwest Michigan, my wife and I discovered Food Dance on the suggestion of our innkeeper. That there would be such an amazingly good restaurant serving locally sourced product in Kalamazoo - who knew? Everything was outstanding. Since then, I had an occasion to go back when a group from work was stranded duing a snowstorm on the way from Chicago to Detroit. Again, everyone in the party was amazed at Food Dance, and they couldn't believe that I could pull such an amazing place out of nowhere. Who knew?"

  • "We have been going to Food Dance for many years. It is our favorite place to celebrate pretty much any and all special occasions. The food is always spectacular and the staff is wonderful! The ambiance is unique and the food is always fresh and local. If you are looking for a special experience, Food Dance is the place to go!"

  • "We were 9 of us and we were taken to the back of the restaurant which was bit secluded. We really liked it for our discussion purposes. The food was great. I ordered Sesame ginger Salmon over rice cake which was bit overcooked. Our server Kerri was great. Majority of the group was teenagers and she was very patient with everyone. Their dessert menu is out of this world. Overall, the ambience was great. definitely worth checking out!"

  • "All of the waitstaff was phenomenal! We got to chat with workers in the bakery area, and they were so bubbly and genuinely interested in my graduation and plans afterward. I wanted to buy a little mouse they used to sell, and when it turned out they were discontinued, three of the workers searched all over for about five minutes to try and find an extra one for me (they didn't find one, but it was sweet that they tried!) The food was very good (a little pricey, but I understand)- and what truly sealed the deal for me was that they had left me a signed congratulations card. I was so touched! I would highly recommend this restaurant for graduation dinners."

  • "Our visit to Food Dance was the focus of our evening in Kalamazoo. The food and wine were delicious, as we knew they would be. But our waiter managed the pace of the meal perfectly, and that exceptional service is what made our visit truly special."

  • "The design and decoration of the restaurant was very nice and the wait staff was helpful, friendly and attentive. The food, however, was just OK for the price. The portions were generous and I have nothing particularly bad to say about the dishes, they just weren't something we'd ever order again for the cost. At our table we had Square Dance entree salad. It was large. There was plenty to take home for a second meal, but since it was dressed, we passed. Ask for the dressing to come on the side. Caesar dressing was too fishy. We got the pasta special which was scallops, bacon, peas, artichokes, w/angel hair spaghetti. The scallops were perfect. The artichokes were meh. Three of us dined and each had an adult bev. $101+tip."

  • "Very odd menu selection, while the appitizers were wonderful the entres left alot to be desired. Halibut at $30 was warm with a cold sauce, cobb salad was huge but asked for NO blue cheese and it was loaded with it. Leg of lamb was a very small slice and Not Hot.... Flank Steak? Are you kidding me... I don't get it, there was a little shop in the lobby of the restaurant with a wonderful selection of meats and cheeses but the only steak they offered on the menu was a Flank Steak? For a restaurant that appears to be a healthy choice option they primarily had burgers on their menu. Would I go again? Not likely, for an appitizer maybe. At $250 for 6 people I expected alot more. "

  • "This was the perfect spot for my family to help celebrate my graduation from WMU's Ph.D. program. My kids had several choices that they liked, the food was excellent, and the service was top notch! Our waitress even quietly asked about dessert to avoid the kids hearing about it. "

  • "Food was extremely overpriced for what it was and wasn't very good. "

  • "From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff, the decor was very inviting and comfortable. Then the food, wow, just amazing! The level of quality and presentation was just perfect. Being that the kind of local farm to table type of restaurant, you expect a very high quality meal with fresh ingredients, which I've had before, but this was on another level entirely. Both my girlfriend and I consider ourselves to be foodies, and have been to a number of very high quality restaurants, and we agreed this place is by far, the best resturant she's ever been to. We consider ourselves to be food "

  • "Food Dance is one of my "go to" restaraunts to take out of town company to. Also a regular meeting place with family. Brsides great food, we love that we can purchase cheese and other items on the way out. We have attended some of their events too, wine and cheese tasting etc. Food Dance cares about food! they seek out local creameries an actually get involved in the meat they serve. A rare and very welcome thing for me. The wait staff has always been knowledgable and given great service. I don't think I have ever walked away disappointed. They are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Just good to know before you walk in the door."

  • "I have been to Food Dance a two time before and have always been impressed with service and the food! I went there for my birthday and it was, yet again, a fantastic dining experience. Great service, great food, and great fun!"

  • "Ordered 2 drinks from the bar-took 20 mins to get, ordered Crab Cakes for 3 dining and was not prompted that the standard order is two cakes-we promptly cut two cakes for the three of us and made it work. We never received nor were asked about bread. Two salads were ordered, and the meat loaf. Order took 30 min to get to the table after the crab cakes. I would tip 20% of the bill - she got 15% of the $100 tab. She was having distractions in the unused meeting area to the east of the dining room"

  • "We had a family get - together at Food Dance after a funeral. We all travelled to Kalamazoo from different states and stayed in hotels for 2-3 nights so our meals together were special. The service was excellent! The food was great and the atmosphere was perfect."

  • "The food was excellent as was the service. It is my restaurant of choice when I visit Kalamazoo. The only request I would like is that the menu say that the portions are rather large and that half portions are available. I forget to request it small portions and have no way to store my leftovers. Such a dilemma. Thank you."

  • "Original fine-dining menu at very reasonable prices in a casual, everyday setting. Good service, friendly and just attentive enough. The stand-out point about this place is the varied and interesting menu. From the admittedly limited sampling of that menu we had the preparation fulfills the promise of a delicious and interesting meal."

  • "Food was amazing. I had the Butternut Squash entree and also some of the Korean Flank Steak. Also, sampled one of their salads and the Chocolate Guinness Cake. Everything amazing. Wait staff was very helpful and pleasant. Look forward to eating her again!"

  • "I live nearby to Food Dance and go there often for breakfast and dinner. I love the focus on local and seasonal ingredients. The menu changes often, and I appreciate all the vegetarian options. One of my favorite spots for a unique breakfast too!"

  • "I'm not a stranger to different foods but I will say this restaurant is probably number 1 on my list of unique food choices. I had dinner with two of my girlfriends and we all ordered something different and shared. I wasn't a fan of the curried chick peas but I'll try anything once. I will definitely be coming back here with my husband. The wine list is amazing!"

  • "Love the chicken pate, as well as the new salmon/shrimp pate! The chocolate dessert with orange curd was absolutely, melt in your mouth, amazing!!! Alway a favorite restaurant of ours!"

  • "First time. Bigger than we thought. Pleasant atmosphere. Excellent waitperson, Rob. Martinis very good, reasonably priced. Great homebaked bread. Main course was disappointing. Yes it's all local or regional. . . nice. But, menu is somewhat limited and attempts to be exotic. However, wife had ultimate mac & cheese and said flavor was dull - need more seasoning. I had the porkchop. Looked good on the plate, however, it was more fat than meat. Will we try it again? Probably, but will try lunch next time. May give dinner one more chance."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our anniversary with a dinner at Food Dance. We were amazed at the unique drink selection, extensive wine list and variety of local beer on tap. The food was amazing! Great choices for those of us with specific allergies. I had the trout dish which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My husband had one of their burgers on a homemade bun with hand cut french fries, which he also loved. Service was top notch, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly without being in your face! Our server shared his personal experience at one of the local breweries with us and recommended a cider ale for my rather choosey husband, which my husband ended up loving! Great experience and we will definitely be going back."
