Great mussels! We enjoyed our entrees too although two of us had the scallops on risotto and while the scallops were wonderful, the risotto was not creamy and almost made me believe it was barley. Our waitress was not of the caliber that I would have expected, having to be reminded to bring an ice bucket for our bottle of white wine, and other similar basics. I will return, but probobly next for a drink and appetizers at the bar instead of full dining.

I have been told I expect too much from restaurant food,(per my husband), but was extremly impressed with every item ordered on our recent outing. This was my first time at Food 101, but it will certainly not be my last! Sherry Abney

    DiningAroundVIP
    Dined on 5/22/2008
We arrived late for our reservation, as our meeting had run over. They were very quick to accommodate us, even though our table had been given away due to our lateness (very understandable). The service at lunch was very slow. The restaurant was not packed, but there were a couple of larger groups, including ours. It took 30 minutes for our lunches to come, which was really too long for a business lunch. I might go back for dinner, but probably not lunch during the week.

The noise was a little loud and there were only two of us dining and we were put in a big booth where we had to turn fully to our sides to look at each other to talk. A little awkward, but worked out fine.

  • We go to Food 101 regularly
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 5/17/2008
We go to Food 101 regularly - obviously we like it, but feel it could be better if: -the wines change more often or if you could add a weekly "special" red and white that is affordable, something less expensive than the Stag's Leap or Stag's Leap at an affordable price. The entree specials are important for your regular patrons, after a couple of months the menu gets uninteresting. Sundays seem to lack specials and the food is sometimes not up to your usual standards.

THE HOSTESS SHOULD HAVE STAYED AT HOME. WE WALKED IN AND SAID WE HAD A RESERVATION FOR 3 AND SHE DID NOT SAY ONE WORD TO US. DISAPPOINTING IS NOT THE WORD FOR HER, BUT USELESS AND HORRIBLE FOR YOUR RESTAURANT. SERVER AND FOOD WAS GOOD.

I am a regular and actually had been at the restaurant on Wed for lunch as well. However, Friday's lunch was disappointing. Service was very very off, we waited a long time for things and then had to ask twice. I ordered the same thing both Wed and Friday, and Friday's was not as nicely presented and smaller in portion.

We were there for Mother's Day. The kitchen was not ready for the crowd. We got ther at 5:45 and we waited quite a while for the entrees to come out. We left at 8:45, not because we sat there and talked but because the kitchen was really slow. Our waitress was very nice but we had to ask for different things over and over. I believe that it would be a great place to go on a normal night. The food was great.

The kitchen was backed up so it took quite awhile for the food to arrive. The people were very nice and tried to be accommodating; however, once the food did arrive it was not worth the cost or the wait. My dish was not hot and the vegetables were bland. While I normally like my green beans crisp, the beans I was served did not taste as though they had been cooked at all.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 5/11/2008
The food was good (not great) but the service was terrible. The server was visibly annoyed when questions were asked about the menu and children. One diner asked for eggs cooked more rather than poached. She rolled her eyes. The diner asked if that was a difficult request. Her response: "we are very busy today so I don't know if we can do that". No childrens menu to reference, just a verbal description and again, don't dare ask for a biscuit instead of grits. Another diner didn't want raisin toast and asked for plain toast. When the food came, the server brought a biscuit because "we only have raisin toast no other breads" however that was not communicated when ordered. The server was rude and not service focused at all.

We love this place- The food is terrific - The service is attentive but not stuffy - You can dress casual as you like - They let you bring your own wine if you prefer - The outside seating is quiet and comfortable, and it doesn't matter that the view is nothing special - The prices are not cheap, but I always feel like it is fair because the meal is so delicious, well prepared and served - I guess I'm a sucker for warm bread, crab cakes, mussels just to get going - We like it for special occasions, just any old romantic night alone, or even with our sons when one turned 21

Would recommend going to the Highlands location if you decide to go to Food101.

Good food, convenient location. Service so-so, rather noisy (seemed like a singles night in the bar) but the overall experience was worthwhile. Have eaten at both Food 101 locations and while this location has the edge in ambiance and a better facility, the VA/Highland location has the edge in food variety and quality .... and in service.
