The food at this visit was equal to our past experience, it was outstanding. The evening started out poorly when our cocktails arrived a long time after we ordered them. Fontana's started full bar service only a couple of years ago, and it appears that it hasn't been integrated into their operation. The ambience was tarnished by the high noise level. About half of the customers dressed up for the evening consistent with a good restaurant. Too many others, unfortunately, came in jeans and sweatshirts, suggesting that at the last minute, they chose Fontana's over a fast food joint.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMenjoyabledelightful lunch. We had Grilled Local Artichoke, Eggplant Parmesan both were excellent, and the Warm Apple Strudel is our all time favorite dessert. The Gorgonzola Salad was ehh ok. My girlfriend and I shared all the dishes, and they were perfect portions, and still had some leftover. All in all, food and service was fantastic. The flavor was great but there was very little 'meat' on the artichoke. Please serve ones that actually have something there to eat. Also too much oil; it was VERY messy. We ordered the specials offered by the server, mine was a fabulous Alaskan Halibut and then with each of us selecting an individual starter... a grilled artichoke for me and a beet, walnut salad for my partner, we split a pasta dish for a second course... a luscious Gorgonzola gnocchi making for a real feast. We ordered wines by the glass to better pair with our meals and when in doubt over a particular selection, our server provided a taste to help us decide... top this off with fruit sorbet and espresso and we had a meal to remember...
You can order a simple pizza or soup with a salad, or indulge in a gourmet banquet... Once we had a waiter assigned to us we received great service. He was very detailed in his descriptions and very nice. The food was really good, very well made, and flavorful. Only thing that was off was the ambiance. It was undecided. Part 'nice restaurant,' part 'sports bar,' part 'sizzler.' That didn't really bother us at all we just found it rather interesting. All in all, a very nice night out for my wife's birthday with our young daughter.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAn All-Occasion RestaurantOur waiter was very attentive and had good recommendations. The salmon with faro, mushrooms and broccolini was one of the best meals I have ever eaten in a restaurant. My only disappointment was that the apple turnover was sooooo big it didn't even look as appetizing as it sounded on the dessert menu. It did taste great but had far too much dough, most of which I left on the plate after finding the apples. My husband, though, loved his all chocolate dessert (a ball of dark chocolate ice cream surrounded by grated dark chocolate and covered in chocolate sauce -- unbeatable, for him). The ambiance of the room is warm and the lighting is romantic for intimate dining. The booths in the back are the best for close discussions.
The wait staff is professional, never forgetting a detail on meal preferences or set up. On this particular evening, the service was a bit slower than usual as they seemed to be one waiter short of typical coverage. Service timing by Sandi was excellent, attentive but not hovering. She seemed to enjoy serving us. The two specials, salmon and mahi mahi, were perfectly prepared..........not overdone, as fish often is, but still hot when brought to the table. Their staff is friendly and inviting, and the food is excellent. Both my wife and my mother had the scallops, and the chef was accommodating allowing my mother to change the vegetables, while I had the scampi. The atmosphere is both good for families without small children, groups, and couples out on a date. Spent the wife's 30th B-day here most recently. Food is delightful. I had the Braised Beef Short ribs and she always has the same thing, it is a lobster pasta with a light cream sauce (I don't recall the name).
