Menu is not overly extensive and quality of food is high. Specials are great but as so often that are well above average price for the menu. The only issue is the restaurant's practice of adding an 18% gratuity directly into the bill. I realize I can refuse to pay that much, or anything at all, but I expect that's not what most customers do. Fantastic atmosphere [palm trees - moon lit night and excellent service. Food was also outstanding except for the pasta ala pomodoro e basilica. For some reason the chef insists on adding sugar and onions to this recipe.
This is as simple as it gets. Olive oil, garlic, chopped basil, sweat for 5 minutes, add tomatoes [San Marzanno], more bass, salt + pepper to taste. My most recent meal at Fontana could not have been more skillfully prepared. Particular note. On a prior occasion, I ordered linguine ala pomodoro e basilico and the sauce was so sweet that it was inedible. I spoke with the Maitre d' and explained that I wanted to sample the sauce before ordering. Eddie our waiter was very polite with great service. Madeline the lady at the front desk gave us a wonderful table right by the fountain in the courtyard. The little white lights around the palm trees were a romantic touch and the courtyard was also romantic. The food was excellent. It was a perfect 30th wedding anniversary dinner. Our server (Jose) was terrific and very knowledgeable about the food and wine options. I had a crab claw, the soup special (beef vegetable), and the capellini. We shared some Brussels sprouts. All of it was great. My co-diners had a variety of meals but the big hit was the ravioli (spinach with a goat cheese/cream sauce). The special (snapper cooked in paper) was also a hit.
The wine list is extensive. What I liked was a "good value" option at the top of each list of varietals. I was busy talking so just picked the option and it was delicious. They aren't the cheapest on the list but certainly not the most expensive. It's completely Italian, with lots of live oil, fresh seafood, crispy salad and attentive service. We had plenty of time to walk around the corner to GableStage without feeling rushed.
