polished off guacamole, had to
order 2 orders it was that good. Mole was excellent."

Came here for last day of NYC
Restaurant Week. Guacamole starter was good; ordered the Carne Asada for a main and meat was overcooked, under-seasoned and completely flavorless. Only one dessert option left. Really rowdy and noisy, even at 7pm. Not worth the $38 price point per person, and wouldn't come back."

Went to Fonda for brunch last
Saturday with a group of 6 people. It was recommended by a friend. Great food. Everyone ordered something different and was pleased with their meal. Unlimited brunch is one of the best deals in NYC! You can choose mimosas, bloody Mary's, margaritas, beer or a Rosalita ALL UNLIMITED for 1.5hrs!!! This is probably the best/tastiest food I have ever had at an unlimited brunch place. It also had a very cool ambiance. Would definitely recommend!"

I took my husband here for his
60th birthday as he loves Mexican food. It surpassed all our expectations. The cuisine was flavorful and well presented. The variety of beers on tap was terrific. The service was prompt and cordial. We'll be back for sure."
Dined on 3/5/2014
Amazing food and bottomless
mimosas. It's a brunch made in heaven."
Dined on 3/2/2014
We really enjoyed out experience.
Endless margaritas were great and the food was delicious I just wish our server was more attentative."
Dined on 3/2/2014
The food was excellent and I would
definitely go back but we had to wait entirely too long for a table. We went for restaurant week and dad reservations for 2 at 7:45. We showed up on time and didn't get seated until almost 8:30. They offered us a quarter of a margarita while we waited. So that whole situation was frustrating, but otherwise our waiter was fine - it was just the host staff that we were unhappy with."
Dined on 2/26/2014
this place is great for brunch as
they have a great entree and drink value. plus, you never feel like you are being rushed out."
Dined on 2/22/2014
Great service & great food--very
attentive staff :)"

Hubby and I had dinner here during
restaurant week, read all the reviews on the drinks and just had to try it. We were pleased with both the food and drinks. Happy hour drinks at $6, such a good deal. Food was tasty, slightly different than others.... Will be back...."
Dined on 2/19/2014
Food and drinks are AWESOME.
Everyone is so nice there. I've only been for brunch but I'll keep going back. It gets a little loud and you should make a reservation. Great spot."
Dined on 2/16/2014
I love Mexican food and Fondas was
a good change up from the more popular places in the city. Guacamole was excellent. Would recommend to others."

Made a last minute reservation for
dinner on Friday night. The bar was buzzing and we were seated with no delay. The server was really helpful with the menu and answering any questions about the margaritas and was very helpful getting us in and out so we could still make it to a UCB down the street on time. The guac was as good as advertised, love that they give warm soft tortillas as well as chips. Spicy mushroom soup was really interesting special (didn't love the masa dumplings, did love the mushrooms), skirt steak taquitos and chicken flautas were both worth ordering and a value at $8 ea, and the beet salad was loaded and delicious (as were the 5 big shrimp served on the side). Will def be back for dinner and $10 margaritas!"
Dined on 2/7/2014
A really good atmosphere! The food
is well prepared but spicy. Mild guacamole is already very spicy :)"
Dined on 1/24/2014
This place is amazing! We started
out with margaritas, which were all great. The guac was fresh and delicious and served with fresh chips and tortillas. Even the salsa they brought with the guac was fantastic! We then had a tlacoyo and flautas and I felt like I was eating in Mexico City (where I grew up). We then had tacos, beef and pastor, which were very tasty as well and made with fresh tortillas. The pastor is not authentic but the taste was amazing. We also got cochinita pibil which was absolutely delicious. We got esquites and nopales as sides and even those rocked. We would definitely go back!"

Fonda food is authentic Mexican
with a sophisticated twist."
Dined on 1/18/2014
This place is great for brunch.
They have a great deal for $27 and unlimited drinks for 1.5hrs. The food is good but not great."
Dined on 1/18/2014
I will return to Fonda's only for
the brunch and the drinks. I ordered chile relleno, it was lukewarm and had a round of Borsin cheese on it. It definitely tasted and looked like leftovers. The service and the drinks were great though."
Dined on 1/13/2014
This place is so versatile. They
have tasty, cheap brunch with awesome french pressed coffee. I come here often to hang at the bar for happy hour foods and drinks. The guac is also awesome! This is a great all-around place for brunch, drinks, dinner, or late night food."
Dined on 3/15/2013
Great food and good service but if
you go during happy hour (only at the bar M-F 5-8) be prepared for serious NOISE especially if you're seated in the front of the restaurant."
Dined on 1/9/2014
We love Mexican and our 15 year
old son has celiac disease. This restaurant is awesome for incredible food and much is/was naturally gluten-free. The atmosphere was cozy and fun, the food was incredible, my son had no problem finding plenty to eat, the margaritas were amazing. We LOVED this restaurant. The chips were gluten-free that came with the guacamole -- and many dishes came with corn tortillas. Can't say enough good things about this restaurant. Delicious, authentic, fun."
Dined on 1/1/2014
Overall good. Especially for Happy
Hour that lasts till 8 pm. Drink special is deliciaous."
Dined on 1/1/2014
I made a reservation for 6 people
for a birthday dinner at 9... we were a full 30 minutes late but they held our table for us which I thought was SO generous. The food was very good, but the margarita's weren't my particular favorites. They didn't offer pitchers, which was very sad. Good food though and nice ambiance!"
Dined on 12/28/2013
We went for dinner here because we
wanted authentic Mexican food. We were not disappointed. The food is very good, especially the guacamole. The only complaint we have is they are a bit heavy on the cilantro. The place is very busy and somewhat noisy but this is expected. :-) Service was good and we were not rushed. Definitely would go back."
Dined on 12/27/2013
Probably the best mexican
restaurant in New York City. Outstanding food quality and taste at great prices. They are always accommodating to last minute changes."
Dined on 12/28/2013
Came here for a boozy brunch.
Service is lacking a bit. We saw our waiter when he took our order and after we paid. We were chasing servers for drinks since no one came to check up on us. The food was delicious though! Also the place could be updated a bit, looks a bit dated."
Dined on 12/21/2013
This is authentic Mexican food - a
rarity in New York City - and what a thrill to find it in the East Village. The quality of the food, the decor and wonderful service attitutde makes this restaurant stand head and shoulders above its neighbors!"
Dined on 12/18/2013
Went here with my boyfriend
Saturday night. We had a corner table for two, it could have been romantic but the acoustics are loud, we couldn't hear our waiter when ordering, and I received the wrong salad because he heard me wrong. He took the salad away, was very apologetic and quickly brought me the correct salad. On to the food: it was all excellent. The Duck Zarape is delicious. My boyfriend is allergic to gluten and dairy, which always makes dining an adventure, but the tortillas are gluten free and they were very accommodating about no dairy. The prices are also reasonable, we had the guacamole, duck zarape, tacitos, Pork Pubil, two drinks each and the bill came to $109. We are definitely going back soon, their brunch is next!"
Dined on 12/14/2013
Really good deal for brunch. 25$
will buy you a great entree from a choice of 10, and bottomless drinks from a choice of 5. The bloody marys are spicy and strong. The guacamole and chips are somewhat on the pricy side for 11$ but a must-have here nevertheless...the guaca is out of this world. The only thing off is the noise level, but thats inevitable in a popular brunch place. The service was fantastic! Tip them well"
Dined on 12/8/2013
The food wasnt that good. I felt
like it was lunch instead of dinner."

Had a birthday gathering at Fonda
last month. Very festive! Great margaritas, interesting dishes as well as your usual mexican fare, great service. We had a great time!"
Dined on 10/13/2013
I can't wait to get back to NYC so
I can go back to Fonda. I've been to both locations. Staff is wonderful. The food will blow your mind. Oh, and the margaritas authentic and perfect. Ugh. I love it."
Dined on 11/13/2013
I was really excited to try Fonda
but the food was just really really salty. The service was good but again the food was super salty, we heard lots of people saying the same thing at other tables."
Dined on 11/11/2013
Took my friend here for her
birthday, I really loved Fonda, food was fantastic and the server was attentive, and quick to provide service. The brunch special was one of the best I have ever had."
Dined on 11/10/2013
Intrigued by the
Mexican-born/Cordon Bleu-trained combo of its head chef, our group of 6 headed to Fonda last Friday. The place is fairly small and although rather noisy when we arrived - due to the happy hour crowd at the bar - the level dropped somewhat when they moved on. The guacamole was fabulous (order the spicy!) and all cocktails were excellent - Blood Orange Tequila and Paloma were divine!! Mains were too delicious - especially the duck, which was melt in the mouth perfect! I disagree with others who felt it was too pricey - this is definitely not your average Mexican (ie not a refried bean in sight!) and still very reasonably priced. Quality of the food and drink is high, the vibe buzzy and happy in a great neighborhood!"
Dined on 11/1/2013
I have been to Fonda numerous
times because it is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is always amazing and I never have any complaints about the service. I normally go for dinner but I have tried brunch a few times and it was just as good and I left very tipsy after bottomless drinks. I always recommend this place to friends!"

The food of Tlaxcala was a
revelation. Chef Santibanez was hospitable and his kitchen really delivered. Service was friendly, helpful and efficient. This is superbly executed authentic Mexican food . We would recommend it to anybody with an interest in Quality Regional Comida Mexicana. This was our third visit and we will definitely be back, even though it is a two hour drive for us."
Dined on 11/3/2013
A friend who knows Mexican cuisine
suggested Fonda as a nearby place with an interesting menu of authentic dishes. That proved to be true, with some out-of-the ordinary preparations. The food tends to be spicy but the waiter will help you find something mild if you prefer it. I had a chicken enchilada dish with a rich mole in a style from Oaxaca that was unlike any enchilada I've had before. The service couldn't have been nicer. We were the oldest people there by about 10-15 years, but the servers seemed to really want to help us enjoy the food. My only reservation was that it is LOUD there. Since the clientele is mostly young, they don't seem to mind, but don't expect to have a quiet, calm dinner."

I came here with 5 other
girlfriends for a birthday brunch on a Sunday (made reservations that same morning) wanting to get a really good meal along with a little bit of boozy fun. I got the huevos divorciados and they were AMAZING. Both sauces complemented each other very well! The table also ordered the fried plantains and those did not disappoint either. As far as drinks, we tried everything the mimosa, bloody Mary, hibiscus rosalita and reg margarita. The Hibiscus margarita is STRONG but so sooo good! There was a time where the waiter disappeared for a bit and we were waiting for our refills but he was able to make it up for it quickly (which is the reason I would think service could improve a bit). Would definitely come back!"

One of the best Mexican
restaurants in NY city... Wonderful menu (food and drinks), beautiful and clean. Great service!"
