It was my birthday,my girlfriends
and I choose this place because of the great margaritas. The margaritas were great, I had more than my share. The place is much smaller than I thought but nice. The food had mixed reviews at my table some of us loved and others thought it was just ok,I have the shirmp over spicy rice and really enjoyed. We did have to wait an hour for our table even though we had reservations but the manager was ver nice about it and we received two rounds of complimentry drinks. "

Fonda is my favorite restaurant in
the neighborhood, and one of my favorites in the city. The food is excellent and so is the service. And I love to sit outside when the weather is nice."

We had 8m reservations on Saturday
night. The place was hopping. About 15 minutes after we were supposed to be seated, the maître d', Chris, approached us. He apologized for the wait, and told us the realistic time we had to wait was another 20 minutes. He offered to walk us across the street to have a drink and appetizers ON THE HOUSE at Fonda's sister tapas bar. I cannot express how lovely the experience was, how kind the servers were and how delicious the food was. And thank you Chris for making this an experience to remember."

Wow. Our waiter was lively and
cheerful. Completely engaged in our service and, as we were seated by the window, we had a lovely view of the seemingly impromptu Brooklyn St. Patrick's Day parade. We loved it. It is a fairly small establishment so dear god MAKE reservations. They're a bit dickish about it at times. But the food is worth it and they have some tasty drinks on their pre fixe unlimited booze brunch. Expect 3 drinks. No more. They keep it classy here."

My veggie enchilada was delicious.
Mole sauce rocks! The homemade tortillas were excellent. The drinks were great too."

My husband and I live in the
neighborhood and frequent Fonda at least a few times a month. We go for Happy Hour, brunch and dinner. The food is delicious, new bottomless brunch and great outdoor seating when it's warm. highly recommend!"

This is by far the best Mexican
food in the neighborhood!"

We have eaten at the resturant
several times and always enjoyed the food. However we had a very unfortunate incident happen after alerting staff that one of our dinner guests was highly allergic to all seafood. Although she ordered pork adobe as her entree a plate of shrimp was not only brought out but placed right under her nose. When she handed the plate back explaining that she had a very serious allergy she was told that they had to check with the waiter at which point she demanded it be taken away. The waiter did come back and apologize for the mistake, but the incident put a damper on the evening."

Can they guac the guac? Yes, they
can. These people do a fantastic job with guacamole. It's fresh, it's not just some mush, and it's made to your preference (mild, medium, hot). We left there wanting some more guacamole for the road--I definitely recommend it if you go. As for the entrees, we ordered enchildada suizas and pork adobo. The enchilada portions was small. The pork adobo was pretty decent sized. We were surprised at how sweet the food was. It really took away from the flavor rather than enhance it. I didn't want dessert at the end. The pork adobo was tender, which was great but it was too sweet. Great ambiance but not much room. The service was very good. Margaritas are overpriced. Overall: I'd go back for the guac."

I am from Austin Texas, where
Fonda's Chef was a chef @ La Fonda San Miguel, I found Fonda to be like a taste of home in albeit in a very tight little place, being from Texas we are use to a little more space, that extends to our dining experience ;)"

Please don't be afraid to
experiment my favorite remain the tlacoyos!!! The duck tacos are amazing the shrimp too and the enchiladas Oaxaca also!!! Want it all !!!! Thank you Fonda!"

I've lived in Park Slope for 10
years now and this is the first very good Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood! Their tortilla soup is phenomenal! Pretty much all appetizers are scrumptious and so are some of their entrees. Banana bread pudding and Tres Leches are fantastic deserts!"

Went here for Valentines day with
my wife. We had a great experience, great food, and romantic. Service was exceptional. Highly recommend it."

Arrived on time for a 6 pm
reservation and were told it would be a 30 minute wait. Told them we had theater tix and couldn't wait that long. Sat at the bar and were seated in about 10 minutes at a table for 6 that miraculously became 3 tables for 2. Maybe there was a cancellation. Service was both friendly and incompetent. After an appetizer, main courses were put in front of us, which our neighboring table recognized as theirs, not ours, though they had been seated and ordered after us. Then our side dishes arrived with the main courses showing up about 5 minutes later, along with many apologies. BUT, the food was sublime, as good Mexican food as I have ever had in USA. Would definitely return but maybe avoid Saturday night."

Fonda is so far the best Mexican
in Park Slope! Food tasted very fresh. Traditional rustic dishes with a twist. The highlights: tortilla soup, scrumptious! Chorizo and melted cheese, decadent! Tres leches, out of this world! Staff is very friendly!"
Dined on 2/7/2014
The food and service are first
rate, It is rather loud for conversation."

On of my few Saturday cravings,
that ended well. I'd been craving for great Mexican food all day and found this spot using the Opentable search. The reviews didn't lead me wrong. The tamarind drink was excellent, even though I'm not a drinker per se. Our entrees were excellent. The servings were an ideal size and the food was very tasty. Futhermore, the waiter and the hostess were both really attentive and amicable."

We have been going to Fonda's at
least once a month since they opened several years ago. The food is delicious, the service is friendly and it's our favorite spot in the South Slope! We like to go early as the tables fill fast. In the warmer months we enjoy the outdoor garden space."

I've been to Fonda about 5 times
now. The food and drinks are consitently great. They have an excellent happy hour at the bar, if a drink and a few apps is more your speed. If you have a party of 3 or more, make a reaervation and ask for the table at the back. They have only a few tables for larger groups and the one in the back is the quietest. The ambiance is typical NYC - way too small, crowded and L O U D. The service was good, but they RUSH you through. Twice my fiend had to grab a plate from the waiter's hand because she wasn't done yet."

We were looking for a place to
have Mexican food in the Park Slope area and this definitely fit the bill. The food was inventive and delicious, even if a little too pricey. Interesting cocktail list...it was fun to try a few different drinks and they were all good. We were a table of five and although they replenished our chips when asked, we definitely could have used a bigger bowl. Tables for two were given the same small portion as our five-top...a minor complaint at most. We'd definitely go back!"

We've eaten here several times and
have never been disappointed. On weekends, it's packed so you need to make a reservation. The food is outstanding. I had the shrimp and scallops dish and the hazelnut mole is out of this world. Service is great."

I usually don't have any
complaints but my waiter messed up my order and wasn't as friendly as usual! I've been here plenty of times before and never had any problems."

Our 2nd New Year's Eve at Fonda,
and we enjoyed it thoroughly, esp. Glad to have this in the neighborhood. Place was comfortable, we were seated promptly (last year, the evening was a little chaotic) and the service was just right. We enjoyed guacamole, flaunt as, salad, and I had scallops and shrimp in a creamy chipotle sauce. Husband had a sliced steak entree and seemed happy. We were stuffed, so did our desserts to go: a bread pudding and a tiramisu-type cake was great later in the evening. we've gone to Fonda thruout the year, but enjoyed ourselves a lot with this recent visit."

Fonda has authentic Mexican food,
however the night we were there the chef had a special New Years menu consisting of several dishes with a Swedish twist. It seems the chef has spent time in Sweden and fell in love with its cuisine. Simply put, the food at Fonda is terrific. The place is almost always packed, but service is swift. During warm weather there is Garden seating, a nice place to sip a Margharita or share a pitcher of Sangria. We haven eaten there several times and have never been disappointed. My"

I've been looking for a place that
caters to a Mexican cuisine, that isn't all "tacos and burritos" and I found it. Fonda, by virtue of its name, definitely has a warm homey feel, as well as closer than most-- home style Mexican food. My party and I enjoyed the food immensely, as well as the drinks! I recommend Fonda 100%, despite my most recent visit having felt a little rushed by wait staff to pay the bill and leave, before even being offered a look at dessert or coffee options. Side note: I've been to this restaurant multiple times, and this was the first incident I've experienced. I still give Fonda two thumbs up."

Food was quite tasty and the Pork
Adobo was spicy and tender! The guacamole is one of the best I have had. The waiters' service was attentive and friendly! I would recommend this neighborhood gem to my friends and will return again."

Highly recommend. Reservations a must!!"

We came here for brunch. We
ordered 3 entrees, and tacked on an order of guacamole after seeing it at another table. The guacamole was very tasty. We loved the Huevos Rancheros & Burrito Texano; the burrito's green salsa was delicious, and the chorizo in the huevos added a great dimension. We also loved the Rosalita, a signature hibiscus & tequila cocktail. They offer a free mimosa with every entree; we recommend guava! The Chilaquiles (with shredded chicken) were fine, but not the best thing for us to have ordered with the huevos since the sauces were very similar & the dish itself was pretty uniform. However, many of the other items looked promising, the staff was kind and helpful, the prices were reasonable--I look forward to returning!"

Love this place. Always great
food, superb service."
Dined on 11/21/2013
Well, Fonda serves
beautifully-plated food, and they have lovely and creative brunch cocktails. Everyone at our table found their food to be quite spicy. Whether this is a pro or a con depends on how you like your food - for us, it was a bit much. However, that would not prevent me from returning. Fonda is a great spot in south slope."

Went here the other night for my
wife's birthday. Good thing I made reservation on here as they were packed on a Thursday evening. I take that as a testament to how good it is. We've been here a bunch of times before so we knew it would be a good choice. A word of warning- the place is a little cramped and always very loud because of it. However, the food and service make up for it. This is not Americanized Mexican, Tex-Mex or anything close. This is high-quality authenticity rooted in tradition with some modern touches. Everything is prepared with care. There is spice but it is definitely there to enhance the flavors- it not there for the sake of having heat. Our waiter was great and manager Mario made sure everything was perfect."

This was my 2nd time at Fonda for
Brunch and the food was incredible each time!"
Dined on 11/10/2013
It's my third time at Fonda and
I'm never disappointed. Our meal served in the garden under the very useful heat lamps was as unique and delicious as can be. We had shrimp and duck, both wonderful, a carafe of red sangria and the special Choolate Y Pan de Muerto dessert, a wonderful thick, dark hot chocolate into which we dunked an orange scented sweet roll. We were so full and happy. Indoors, this restaurant is a bit tight and noisy but in the backyard, we had space and quiet. It was great. We'll be back again and again."
Dined on 11/2/2013
The food was fabulous. Delicious
and memorable Mexican dishes. Can't wait to return. Small, lively and filled with people. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Despite the crowd, we did not feel rushed at all."
Dined on 10/26/2013
The food at Fonda is leagues above
most area Mexican restaurants. Fresh ingredients in unique preparations. I basically order anything that comes steamed in a banana leaf and I know it will be incredible. Even the rice and beans are divine. Great cocktail menu. Just wish the indoor dining room wasn't so noisy, and diners are pretty packed in. At least in the warmer months one can eat in the pretty garden and avoid the din. Staff is super friendly."

Great food, heavy on the sauce in
all dishes, excellent cocktails, loud, slightly disorganized getting us a table"
Dined on 10/25/2013
Just a really, really great
restaurant -- probably the best Mexican food I've had in NYC. Lots of different options, amazing spices and delicious subtleties in the different dishes. Great service, good atmosphere. Make sure to make a reservation because it fills up, even mid-week."
