Diner Reviews
  • "The deco was classic and stylish. The service was impeccable and the food was awesome. Good, tight wine list with great cocktails and BYO option on weeknights! Overall a great little restaurant in South Philly."

  • "We loved it! I would recommend this place to friends and happily take out of town visitors here in a heartbeat! Happy to live in the neighborhood and have a place like this where people think they need to go to Center City! One of the best meals we have had in the city!"

  • "From beginning to end the experience was wonderful. We started w/ some great olive & sourdough breads served by "G". We decided on the 5-course tasting menu which included Tuna crudo w/ mango, jicama and delicious plantain chips; seared scallops w/ asparagus and an incredible sauce gribiche; Skate Wing w/ gnocchi & spring vegetables in a feta sauce; Cod; Pork Belly…. Each course was presented with excellent service and the tastes exploded the palate. Dessert – you have to go and experience yourself! The chefs & entire staff treat you like a star!!"

  • "If you are truly objective, you cannot dine here without being impressed. Start with one of the tasting menus and you will be completely hooked, as we are."

  • "The food and its presentation are excellent. The menu is limited, however, and that is a shame. This is explainable when one considers the depth of culinary skills necessary for what is presented. They have added more nightly specials as a partial remedy for this situation. Companion to the fine dining selections is the attentive and knowledgable service. Every possible want/need was taken care of without having to ask. This is a place to go and to enjoy."

  • "It was our 20th wedding anniversary - and Fond had the Chef Table all set up, just for us! We had a great view of the kitchen and Chef doing their magic. It was as if we were the only ones there - in our own private dining room. Just wonderful and very romantic. The seared fois gras was magical - velvety and sensual. The cod was deliciously prepared, and the skate also really nice. We'll be back"

  • "We had a wonderful experience at Fond. The staff took very good care of us and made our anniversary dinner quite memorable. After a cocktail we chose the 7 course tasting menu and had a luxurious 2 hour meal. (we were able to substitute an item with no issue) Portions were just right as we were quite full after dessert. I recommend that you take advantage of the BYOB aspect, the corkage fee is only $10 per bottle. Made our reservation on OpenTable and noted that it was our anniversary. They acknowledged that with dessert by writing "Happy Anniversary" in chocolate on each of our plates, it shows that they read the comments and that they chose to act on it in their own way. Thoughtful enough for us. Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "After living in the Passyunk square neighborhood for many year my partner and I tried Fond. We never went to the previous location and lucked in to an opening on a summer Friday night. The staff was pleasant and observant of our needs. The wine list was reasonable and for me varied. I settled for a Vihno Verde. We ordered appetizers, a sweet potato/crab au-gratin and pate. The staff apologized for them being late which we did not notice and offered us complimentary mint soup and a tuna/magno appetizer. The ordered apps were delicious with the best pate I have had. Entrees were pork belly and beef sirloin which were both delicious. The only drawback was the noise in the room. Staff, food and dessert was delicious. I will definitely be back!"

  • "Everything we tried here was phenomenal! We had all of our dishes picked out but when our waiter came out with the specials we ended up swapping out items. We got the lobster & strawberry salad, some crab special app, Foie gras ravioli, and a fourth app. The foie gras ravioli, oh my gosh. Just thinking about it is making me drool. I wanted to lick the plate. We ended up sharing the cod entree but we were so full from the apps. We took it to go and when I had it later on that night, it was still amazing. Our waiter suggested this jalapeno martini drink which I ended up having two of. We ended up striking up a conversation with the couple next to us who said they've been long time patrons and I can see why. I can't wait to come back here!"

  • "We took our son to Fond for his birthday. There were five in our party and to our pleasant surprise we were directed to the chef's table in a separate room next to the kitchen. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was noisy back there - the room is all hard surfaces, but interesting to see the action in the kitchen. Our order: special app of the night - foie gras dumplings - for the table. They were moist and tasty. Seared foie gras with lemon ricotta. Sensuously delicious. Wild Boar Pate (excellent) and moist and delicious Pork Rillettes, with a truffle parmesan aioli that sent up a scintillating waft of truffle. Cod, skate wing and pork belly (perfectly seared). Lemon semifreddo and pistachio honey tart. All lovely. We'll return."

  • "We took our daughter to Fond to celebrate her college graduation. The food was awesome! The pairings of meat/fish and salad/veg accentuated the flavor experience. The waitstaff were attentive and kind. You must try the pork belly. The chef sent out a complimentary shot glass of a dreamy mushroom soup, one of the best I have ever had. Restraint is small and tables are close. Don't be afraid of parking, $8 valet parking right at the intersection. "

  • "We went for happy hour and enjoyed a half price cheese plate and glass of wine. My husband loved his cocktail. Then we had a great table by the open windows. The food was delicious and we were able to have our own wine with no corkage fee since it was a Thursday night. Service was friendly and efficient. We enjoyed everything!"

  • "Although a long-term fan of Fond, this was my first time at the new location, which is definitely an improvement over the old cramped space. It's still intimate but more pleasant. The cocktail menu had some lovely, unusual choices. Fond keeps the menu small, which in general I applaud. However, I couldn't find an entree I was interested in eating, and almost all the first courses were very rich. I put together some appetizers for dinner, but in combination it was all too heavy. As a result, I probably won't be back until the menu changes for the next season. Pity, in that I have always enjoyed this restaurant a great deal."

  • "Disappointing as there was limited menu and nothing new. (Our fourth time at Fond) at 5:30 (yes5:30 ) they were out of Cod which left tuna, steak or pork belly. So we got two small plates each both, which were ok. Sort of a take it or leave it attitude by the head waiter who is usually very cordial. Our waiter was very good, have had him before. Again a disappointing evening. "

  • "Don't hesitate: the well-priced, portioned, and paced five-course tasting menu is the perfect option, given the many delicious choices on the menu and the flexibility of the chef and servers to accommodate diners' hankerings. We will certainly be back the next time we're in town!"

  • "We have so loved the great places in Queens Village and have found another gem; what a wonderful place. It was a beautiful Spring night and we sat next to the opened windows watching the life on the street as we had one perfect morsel after another with service that made us fill regal. The food couldn't be any better and the service so friendly. The atmosphere is low key and relaxed. We are from out of town and we only wish we lived in Philly so we could come back here again and again and again. This is a great place, don't miss it."

  • "Philly has such a vibrant restaurant scene but lately we've been only trying new restaurants for us it's mostly been a frustrating adventure until Fond. Beautiful food, perfectly executed. Delightful staff. I highly recommend and it's the first restaurant in months to which I'll return. "

  • "The restaurant is so beautifully decorated- elegant, classy, and simple. The waitstaff is attentive and profesional but not stuffy, the food was impeccable, delicious, and unique, and the chef was friendly and accommodating. Great night with my best friend and a great date night spot."

  • "Wanted to go to Fond for a few years now......Birthday was coming up so I made the RSVP. As I heard it was small, I wasn't taken aback when we walked in and it was a dainty space with lots of people! We frequent DMitris, so this was nothing! We were seated promptly and given the specials and drink list... although it is a BYOB still on Tues-Thurs. you can still order from the bar when your bottle is finished, like we did! Every course was plated beautifully and the tastes matched the plating, fine-tuned and finessed. Foie Gras and Crudo to start.... after an amuse bouche of mushroom soup that was amazing! Next a complimentary plate of the Chicken Liver Mousse! OMG! Amazing. So smooth and flavorful. Entrees=perfect, dessert= even better!"

  • "The pork belly, short ribs, and duck hearts were incredible as well as the moderna cocktail. Disappointing that at 7:30 on a Saturday night a restaurant with 5 entrees on their menu could have sold out of one in addition to being out of one of their two specials. Service was very slow but they threw in a free sorbet sampler which was also great. Filled to the brim and so service was slow and not always responsive. The food was well worth the wait, we'll be back."

  • "There were 3 in our party and we opted for the 5-course tasting menu. At $57 it is right up there with Sbraga in value for the quality and creativity delivered. This was our first time at Fond but certainly not our last. Each course exceeded expectatations, however, the skate accompanied by a lemon and pea risotto was world class. The tuna crudo was also memorable. The dessert had so much going on that a brief description would not do it justice -- superb is the word that best applies. The light, creamy mushroom soup (a complimentary start to the tasting menu) was flawless and maxed in terms of flavor. Even the intermezzo of elderberry sorbet was extraodinary in both its texture and intensity. This reataurant has to be among Philly's elite."

  • "This was a great place to celebrate a special anniversary. The service is impeccable, and the food is very good. Next time, however, I would order a la carte rather than the prix fixe dinner. A few things among the five courses were outstanding--the tuna and the skate--but a few dishes fell short (the liver--too strong; and the dessert selection--so-so). The atmosphere is lovely; reminded me of Paris."

  • "Overall great dinning experience! Everyone enjoyed their appetizers and main dishes (tuna, swordfish, salmon, skate, seasonal salads). I'd say the dessert was unremarkable but everything else made the evening worth it! Wait staff was very attentive. We will definitely go back."
