Diner Reviews
  • "Fogo de Chao was just an overall great time. I couldn't get in during Restaurant Week, no surprise there, booked up pretty fast, so we went regular price. Expensive but not bad for all the food they provide! Deliciously marinated meats everywhere! Salad bar wasn't too great but hey, you don't come here for veggies! Staff were very attentive. Good thing about this place is when you flip your card to "red," they don't bother you! Which is great because now you have a huge plate of all the meat you could ever want, and private time for long conversations. Only problem now is who can I convince to come with me again....."

  • "My wife and I were in DC for a 5 day visit, traveling with our 8 year old granddaughter. We made a reservation hoping it would be a great experience for all of us. It was! A unique dining experience with lots of food choices at the salad bar as well as at the table, from the frequent servers who brought different meats. We enjoyed it. As kid friendly as I hoped that it would be. My only issues were the chaotic environment in getting the salad bar food and the noise level. This is definitely a great place for larger groups, family celebrations, etc. A fun place with interesting food and atmosphere. We would go there again."

  • "As always the food was very good and there is as much or as little as you want. It's the service that needs work. It's starting to resemble that of a cheap, rapid turn over place. The server who explained how Fogo works and took our drink orders was brusque, interrupted our conversation and seemed annoyed to be there. Others did not serve or remove plates from the proper side, reached across the table to set dishes down (there was plenty of room to maneuver around the table), and plopped utensils down. The service used to be of higher quality. For the price and the tone the restaurant is trying to set, I expect much better."

  • "I've frequented Fogo in the past, and I went last Sunday to take advantage of the restaurant week. Despite our timely arrival, we had to wait a bit to be seated. We were seated in a corner, and we definitely were secluded from the main dining area. Probably due to this reason, the servers did not frequent our table often, to the point of having to ask for servers to come since my plate was empty. It was certainly a drastic contrast to when I had paid full menu price. Shouldn't they be more welcoming to patrons who are trying out Fogo to see if they want to return? I would return for the food, but if I had not before, I'm not sure if I would."

  • "My once-a-year treat during DC Restaurant Week, when (2014) dinner prices are $35, as opposed to the full price $50-something per person. Instead of 17 meats, they serve 10, but it's still an amazing experience. I've had both full reg price menu and Restaurant Week menu and honestly, you're not missing out on much by choosing the cheaper option. Salad bar is delicious and always a temptation, as are the cheesy bread biscuits; don't get fully seduced by them and miss out on the meats...conserve your stomach room for the best!"

  • "The service was great but the food was better at Texaz de Brazil and Chima."

  • "We came to the restaurant during restaurant week but discovered that the restaurant week menu did not include most of the tasty cuts of meat. We instead opted for the full menu. It would have been beneficial for the restaurant to advertise beforehand that the RW menu was going to be so short. Regardless, the food was great."

  • "I visited during DC's Restaurant Week. I have been to Fogo before, but this is the first time that the cuts of meat have been fatty. My friends and I were surprised at the amount of fat we had to cut off. This has never happened before. I understand reducing the selection for the Restaurant Week price. I don't understand reducing the selection AND the quality. The meat tasted good, but the cuts weren't as lean. I can't give them a 5 star rating as a result. I love Fogo and I recommend it highly - just not during Restaurant Week."

  • "This was our first time to a Brazilian steakhouse, and it definitely didn't disappoint with the amount and variety of different meats. It was an endless barrage of beef, pork, and chicken, and nobody was complaining. With that being said, while it was fun and unique, I don't think my wife and I will be back. Maybe it's that we aren't the biggest red meat fans, or maybe the buffet like nature of the restaurant, but there are certainly many other places in DC that we will go to instead."

  • "Fogo's main competition in the DC area is Chima, out in Tysons Corner. Fogo's meat is better prepared and I preferred Fogo, but my family preferred Chima because it has a nicer salad bar and a better atmosphere. Both are great choices if you want to pig out on meat. Neither is a good choice for vegans or vegetarians."

  • "We went to Washington D.C. location for restaurant week. Previously visited location in NYC. Great deal for $35 pp. Salad bar was great. (Liked fresh parmesean, apple salad, and baby pimentos). Choice of endless steak, chicken, lamb, ect. was outstanding. Great dessert choice (chocolate mousse cake, cheese cake and key lime pie). Servers kept drinks filled. Street parking was available, or valet. Went early when it opened at 4:30 pm, was full when we left to go to National's baseball game at 7 pm."

  • "The staff at Fogo DC is so attentive...it's like they can read your mind and know what you need when you need it. The food is so good. You will definitely be full between the fresh salad bar, the various meats, AND the plantains, cheese rolls, and mashed potatoes...might even need to take a break from eating before your next round of food. Don't even get me started on the mixed drinks...they are tasty and made really strong. They even have a mobile bar that comes around to the tables, from which you can order alcohol. Really cool. This is a great place to do dinner with friends, family, or even for a couple. Pricey, but worth every single red cent! I can't wait to go back...for like the 7th time in my life."

  • "We had a great time and the food was excellent. We had 4 kids in our group and they enjoyed as much as adults did!!"

  • "We went to Fogo for a birthday celebration, and although the salad bar is awesome, the meat selection was not very good, and several of the choices I tried were dry and just not very good. I love my steak and I'm pretty easy to please overall, but I tried several sirloin dishes and was not impressed. A couple of them I could not even eat. I think this is a fun place for a group, everyone can just kind of serve themselves, and it is a great location and nice atmosphere inside, but for meat lovers, I found it very disappointing. Maybe it's one of those instances where it just did not live up to the hype."

  • "I've wanted to dine here for quite some time and heard great things about it. Boy was it was worth the wait! The food and service were AMAZING! Our "server" even suggested a great cocktail to accompany our feast of meat that was to die for! I'll definitely recommend Fago de Chao to others."

  • "This was my first time @ this location. There wasn't anything spectacular about the food and the waiters passed by our tables a few times without checking to see if we wanted the meats. Also we didn't even get the meat we requested. So I was unsatisfied with my experience at this location."

  • "The food and service was good but the restuarant is very loud!"

  • "You have to be ready to eat A LOT of meat, but it was delicious. The salad bar was also really good. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion."

  • "Good selection and rotation of meats for restaurant week price. Servers came by often but messed up a few drink orders but brought new ones."

  • "I thought maybe this restaurant would lack some dazzle during restaurant week, but I was wrong! my table was treated to excellent service and the food selection and quality was superb. I'd gladly go again!"
    Dined on 8/14/2014
  • "Not sure what all the hype is about for this place. The meat was well cooked but bland and you just have to wait for the type of meat you want to walk by your table. ( you can't just say I want some pork loin.) so we spent 10 mins saying "no thank you" to all the meat servers with every other kind of beef imaginable, waiting for the one we wanted. Also, I don't know if we were sitting in the wrong spot but there were several meats on the menu that were never passed by our table. Overall, not a fan."

  • "Fogo's did not disappoint for Restaurant Week! The selections were plentiful and the service was great...the mini popover bread, sides, garlic steak. Great RW choice, will be back!"

  • "A few friends have been talking about Fogo de Chao. I've wanted to go for sometime and of course restaurant week is the perfect time. We were not disappointed. We were happily stuff when we walked out the door. We all agreed to make it a staple on our list. Customer service is excellent as well as the food!!! The salad bar is amazing!!!"

  • "So many meats! Delicious! Highly recommend this place!"

  • "We went here for the restaurant week meal and it was definitely a total bargain for the quality and quantity of food we received. Out of all if the meats we tried, we only had minor complaints about two: the lamb was too blue for our tastes, and the parmesean encrusted pork was extremely dry. Everything else was exceptional, though, and the wait staff was very attentive, going so far as to ask at least a couple times if there was anything we were waiting on and if we wanted anything in particular to come back to us. I will definitely be returning."

  • "you must love meat to eat here. apart from paying 35$ for a bottle of wine I could have gotten at Costco for $8, the many kinds of meat were delicious, moist, and available in a range of done-ness. Salad bar and sides (included in price) were also tasty and of a good variety."

  • "Always a great experience with great service. I wish they had a lobster bisque like Texas de Brazil though. Yum!"

  • "All the reviews I read on this place are true. The cheesy bread is amazing. The salad bar pretty good and has a great selection. But then when the meat comes out then say goodbye to your hunger pains. The minute you flip that card over they come by and say hello to Meat, meat, meat.......all of it was good and I think I ended up trying at least 10+ kinds. Highly recommend for experience alone. Also did Restaurant Week pricing so I think I got a bargain."

  • "Came for resturant week. I heard it was expensive but I think its worth it if its your only meal minus breakfast for the day. Great staff and vibe. Everyone was so friendly and helpful."

  • "We came for the restaurant week menu but being big fans of Brazilian steakhouses we would have happily returned for a regular night. However, our waiter was unbelievably rude. At one point I had made a joke that I was now ready to order a drink (because I had previously requested extra time to decide) and HE ROLLED HIS EYES. I honestly felt like I was talking to a middle schooler with all of the visible expressions and shortness. There are enough other Brazilian steakhouses in DC to try that I do not feel compelled to go back to that one just based on the experience with staff. Although I will say, food was particularly salty but I have a feeling we just caught them on an off day with it being the start of restaurant week."

  • "We ate at a Fogo in Chicago a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. This visit was just ok and that is because of the service. Most of the meat was not the best quality, especially given the price. We had to ask more than a couple of times for the pork or chicken to be brought over. The salad bar has gone downhill. The sides served to the table were not good. In fact, I swear the garlic mashed potatoes were from a box. I can get an awesome steak in Chicago for the 53.00pp we paid. Granted, I'll have to pay for any sides, but they would be just as wonderful. We will stick with good steak houses from now on- no more Fogo."

  • "The restaurant is just about the meat - not the service, not your experience. The meat was just ok. There was a lot of it, as much as you want and unless you set the pace by turning your disk over, it comes at you really fast. the meat servers don't talk to you except to ask you if you want what they are serving. A little warmth or friendliness would have been appreciated. The salad bar was quite good - but that's not what I went to Fogo de Chao for."

  • "We went in a Saturday night. It was extremely busy and loud! After some confusion about where our table was, the service was fine. The food -super good! The salad bar is good, but the main attraction is the different meats. Every meat we third was tasty. The only issue was that some of the slices were too rare. It was good overall; we'd go back and we did! This was on a Monday night and the noise was at a much more tolerable letter. The staff were not so rushed and the atmosphere was much calmer. Same good service and meats."

  • "Fogo de Chao is a very attractive and large restaurant. While it gets extremely busy they left enough room to keep things private. All the meat and salad bar you can eat for $53. Salad bar is extensive and easy to fill up on before the meat stars coming. They also bring great cheese bread, fried polenta and fried banana. They do however push extras, like alcoholic beverage and desserts and if you give in, it is easy to walk away with a whopping big bill. Compared to any nice restaurant in any big city the price not unreasonable and a fun experience! Easy to burn out on if you go too often as everything is heavily salted."
