Diner Reviews
  • "Great service, quality selection of salad bar, meats, alcohol and dessert. Highly recommended!"

  • "Fun energetic. Salad bar is great. Tons of meat. Appetizers are marginal."

  • "Fogo de Chao is one of my favorite places. I've been to several locations throughout the states. San Jose location has superb service, staff is very knowledgeable about the wine list, very fresh salad bar and the meats are prepared with perfection. Additionally, I tried the chicken hearts. I've had them at other places before and don't care for them. However, Fogo prepared them exceptionally well. So much that I actually liked them!"

  • "Came here with a party of 6-8 people. Our "servers" were great and on top of everything. If we requested a specific kind of meat, it was brought over almost immediately. The salad bar seemed a little smaller than other Fogo's we have been to around the country but we didn't mind that because we really only cared about the meat and wine! Definitely an experience, be prepared to feast and to be given way too many options to choose from! Don't forget to turn the card over when you need a break to breath and sip some wine! And definitely take it easy on the salad bar! No one in the party was disappointed and everyone got something they wanted to try. Will be back!"

  • "The salad bar was great, I could have filled up on that alone. The beef was excellent, very tender and flavorful. My only complaint would be not much chicken options but to be fair we got full quickly so we didn't try everything. Next time I go I need to bring a good appetite ;) Oh yeah and it is pricey so eat up to get your money's worth. Just don't expect to eat anything for 24 hr after 'cause you will feel full for at least that long!"

  • "We found the meat to be over-done in some cases (particularly the over salty Parmesan pork) and just not that flavorful in all cases. The best things were the warm cheese puffs and the salad bar offerings (especially the smoked salmon). The service ranged from friendly to bothersome and (in one case/wine service) unpleasant. Overall, we felt rushed (in and out in exactly one hour) -- it was not the warm/relaxing environment we were expecting."

  • "If you are a meat lover this is the place. All the meats were cooked perfectly and the servers were at your table within seconds of flipping that coaster... We all had a desert and it was not great. We found ants on two of the deserts and they were running around. So maybe a little ant problem in the back. In any case not that big of a deal. They comped our deserts due to this mishap!"

  • "Food is great and service is great. I think there are too many tables packed into the space so it feels a bit chaotic - not much space between tables, LOTS of servers moving through the restaurant serving meats. You sort of feel like things are coming at you from all sides. We enjoyed the experience overall, but it was a bit overwhelming in multiple ways."

  • "Had gone to celebrate wife's birthday and was not disappointed. Very nice location. The lamb, chicken and meat was excellent. The service was really great. They even got lamb chops done the way I liked. Highly recommended."

  • "Wow. The food is amazing; the service is amazing. They are incredibly accommodating -- if you want something well done or blood rare, they'll go grab it for you. The food is expertly flavored - they don't over do it with seasoning because they let the rich flavor of the meat shine through."

  • "This is my husbands favorite restaurant. All the meat is fabulous. It is cooked to perfection. We will keep coming back and love the other locations too."

  • "Went here for a celebration dinner with friends and thoroughly enjoyed the gourmet salad and sides bar. You can make a meal from the various vegetables, cheese, olive and pepper dishes. We loved the artichoke bottoms! The meat dishes came out hot and were delicious. My favorite was the leg of lamb and lamb t-bone. The leg of lamb tasted like it had a lemon-mint marinade which made the lamb pop with flavor. The South American and California wine selection was abundant. One of the meat servers took special care of us and brought us the cuts of meat we wanted to taste. Overall our group had a great time."

  • "Not a lot of choices in meat and salad bar. Did not enjoy much."

  • "We had a very nice time. There were over a dozen types of meat and they kept coming. The service was terrific. We got seated right away and the food immediately started arriving. My advice to anyone going for the first time is to go hungry and go sparingly at the salad bar. Save room for the meat,"

  • "Explaination of menu and non-meat choices had to be asked for...little to no information given to first-time guests..we had to stop several servers. staff to understand procedure.....no attempt was made to explain pricing system or alternatives to meat"

  • "Great food and service! I had reservations 9:30pm however they were able to seat us at 6:30pm. I wish the seafood was included. Great bread balls."

  • "The food was great as usual, and the service was really good!"

  • "Very nice staff and service. We liked the restaurant and loved the food. Our waiters were helpful and made the birthday fun."
    Dined on 7/22/2014
  • "Food selection is very good, make sure to hold back from eating to much at salad bar. The meats that they serve are ok, heavy on the salt. You can eat until you explode. Desserts are good but expensive."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "The food was very good and ot is all you can eat. The meal is expensive but worth it. The mixed drinks are a complete rip off. $15 for a tiny mixed drink is ridiculous. Stick with beer. My wife and I both had a meal and 1 drink each. Our total bill was $180."

  • "Excellent salad bar...but don't eat too much green stuff. Save room for the almost never ending waiters with swords of beef, chicken, pork...etc. It all tastes great. Just remember to bring your wallet, it is not inexpensive"

  • "We had a great dinner here for my husbands birthday, food was excellent, service was attentive and even though we were too full for dinner and we wern't going to order dessert they knew it was my husbands birthday and they brought out a decadent piece of chocolate cake and wrote happy birthday on the side of the plate. I only wish they put us a quiter more secluded spot but that was really just a personal preferance we can't wait to go back."

  • "The service and food were both fantastic. The parade of perfectly prepared meat seemed to never end, and was matched by a salad bar that was filled with all the best cold dishes such as asparagus, aged cheese, hearts of palm, prosciutto, and much more. I'd highly recommend this restaurant for a special night out."

  • "Made reservations thru open table and had a confirmation email. However, the hostess at the front said could not find my reservations. Had to wait awhile before we were brought to our table. Overall, the meats that came by were good. The filet mignon was tasty. Service was prompt and attentive. Since the restaurant was crowded, it would be great if there were adequate air-conditioning to make dining here an enjoyable experience."

  • "Fogo de Chao is a delicious choice for anyone looking to dine in true Brazilian style. As a Brazilian who's been to several Brazilian options in the Bay Area, Fogo de Chao's variety, quality, and service are unmatched. As an overall option, you'll be hard-pressed to find a restaurant that offers better food and experience at its moderate price range."

  • "This is now my go to place for steak / carnivorous meals. Excellent wine list with a good South American selection. A good place for groups. Might be somewhat noisy for detailed business discussions although perhaps I was just seated in the loudest section."

  • "After reading all the negative reviews, we were a little skeptical trying Fogo de Chao. But heck, have to form my own opinion, right?? Well, we were pleasantly surprised. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive, even the manager came over to check on our dining experience. The choice of meats and cuts of meats were good and we must have tried a little of everything. The salad bar is definitely better than Pampas with a variety of lettuces, huge selection of toppings, meats and cheeses. We would definitely come back again."

  • "The design of the Restaurant was very appealing. The Salad bar had many good options. I was a little disappointed with the meat service. A previous restaurant I went to did a good job of ensuring you had sampled all the menu before coming back for seconds. Here, it seemed like it was whatever came out is what they brought to you. Consequently we had multiple selections of the meat courses, but not all of them, and no chicken offerings. To be fair we were asked at the end if they could bring anything else out that we wanted to try, but it was too late at that point. Some of what was called well done was burnt, and some of what was called medium was more rare. I was not overly found of some of the seasonings used on a few of the cuts of meat."

  • "A group of us wanted to try this place out as we have been to a couple of Brazilian steakhouses in the SF area. First of all, I think something was wrong with their AC because it WAS NOT working. It was super hot in there, which made me feel so uncomfortable and made my stomach turn with the food. The same happened to my cousin's girlfriend. We both were not feeling good afterwards. The selection was ok. It was not extraordinary. There were no other selection of chicken except for one. In addition, there were not chicken hearts, which is pretty famous in Brazilian grilling. Plus, there was no grill pineapple! I was very disappointed. I would not come here again nor recommend anyone else to come here."

  • "I absolutely love this chain. I've been to The mother ship in São Paulo. While the food is always great, the service was disappointing this time. I think it was probably a bad night, as this has never been a problem before. We were simply forgotten several times. They announced that no one person is responsible for us. A team is. I'd rather have one good person. They also ran out of Flan. We were at the 4:30 seating. How do you run out of something like that so early? I do recommend it, and plan to go back. But this time was frustrating."

  • "The food was excellent. My husband has been to the original Fogo de Chao in Brazil and commented the Santana Row location food was as good as he remembered and better than any other similar steakhouse in the United States. The staff did a very nice job of keeping the flow of food well paced all night. Our thanks to Nick, Freddy and Maeli who ensured food, wine and clean plates were always available to us. On two occasions, the Assistant General Manager, Helio Vieira, and head of Customer Service, Gerardo (Jerry) Galvez, stopped by our table to ask about the food, service and menu selection. My husband loves meat and I prefer a good salad so, in both cases, we were well taken care of. The wine selection is also plentiful."

  • "Since I love Brazilian food, I was very happy to see a Brazilian restaurant open. I was happier when I went and found the food yummy. For those who do not eat meat, there is a wonderful buffet. The meat is beautifully seasoned and there is a large variety. You can have as much or as little as you wish. They don't assign waiters to tables but instead all waiters service all tables. It only takes two seconds to have a waiter at your side."

  • "This is our fourth time at this restaurant since they opened in San Jose couple of months ago. We can not get enough of it."

  • "Tables are too close. Meat is old, dry and tasteless. Buffet is skimpy. Service was nice but unattentive."

  • "Lots of food, yet quality still amazing. Worth the price...come hungry!"

  • "Their meats are a whole lot flavorful and better than Espetus. They offer different temperature for the meats and you can distinguish their different tastes. I wish they offer chicken hearts!"

  • "We had eagerly anticipated our first visit to a Brazilian Steakhouse with our foodie friends, but were disappointed with Fogo de Chao. For starters, the Caipirinha cocktail tasted like it was missing an ingredient. The highlight was the salad bar. Nice selection of the usual suspects. Unfortunately, to GET to the salad bar means meandering thru tightly spaced tables against a river of servers with hot meat and large knives stepping in your way. Returning from the salad bar we had to route thru the lobby area past waiting patrons. The meats were ok, and a large variety to choose from, but not nearly anything special. Waaay overpriced. Found myself wishing I'd gone to a regular old American steakhouse. I won't be returning."
