Went to Fog City Diner with a group of co-workers. The food is interesting and tasty. Generally up-scale, foodie versions of comfort food (fries, mac & cheese), but some surprises like the brussel sprouts with pear. The atmosphere is buzzy and at peak can boarder on just plain loud. This was fine with our group, but would be tough if you were trying to conduct any business, for example.

I had a reservation thru open table and they didn't have it and the host was rude about it. When I tried to show my confirmation, he was rude. It seemed like a big deal that they were able to "fit" us in.

I had 4:45 reservations for 2. My dinner guest and I both ordered the Burgers. One was to be "well". It was beyond undercooked. A little pink, and I could've dealt but, it was seriously uncooked through out the entire middle. When the waiter returned to check on how our dinner was, I politely pointed out my not well done burger. I sent it back, and got no substitution because, I didn't have another hour to wait on food. My dinner guest took one bite of his burger, and we decided we were done, and ready to just go.It was fleet week, and very busy but, that's not any excuse for such a well recommended restruarant/diner. Two sodas, 1 bite of a burger, and $45 later. I was less than impressed!

I have been visiting Fog City Diner for 20 years when I come to San Francisco. My recent visit was to a remodeled space, but the basic product offering remains strong. When we arrived our table was ready and we were promptly seated even as the restaurant was busy. The food and the service are first rate and the newly designed space, {At least since my prior visit}, updates the feel of the restaurant. The wine list is not extensive but it offers a fine selection of California wines, fairly priced. I would recommend the restaurant without reservation to anyone visiting San Francisco.

Fog City Diner was one of my favorite spots when I lived in SF years ago. Returned this week with friends on their first trip to SF...and her birthday. I wanted something iconically SF and fun...so, I was hoping that Fog City would come through for me again. And how!!! We had a fabulous dinner there...in no small part to our waiter, Perry, who took charge of a "family style" meal for us of a selection of wonderful dishes he combined to celebrate my friend's birthday...along with a perfect wine selection and finished off by an exquisite port. The dishes were classics but with the Fog City extras..perfect ingredients from the local blue cheese in the radicchio and frisee salad to a ribeye steak that was melt in your mouth fantastic.

Fog City was the second place we visited when we moved to San Francisco, and even after trying the amazing variety of restaurants in this great city, we keep coming back to Fog City. There's always something new to amaze us, including drinks, and the staff is great and friendly. Whenever we have out of town visitors we make it a point to bring them to Fog City.

I order crab crakes and pinot grigio on every visit. This is one of my favorite locals along the embarcadero, modern ambiance is really nice. The food is delicious and the hosts/hostesses are very friendly. I suggest making a reservation, it gets really croweded at lunch and in the evenig. Menu is pricey, but worth it.

I asked my daughter to do a little research before a trip to San Francisco and she chose fog city among others. It was easy to secure a reservation through open table, but we didn't really need one for early Sunday evening. fog city hit the mark: great ambiance, innovative food ( especially the Brussel sprouts!), attentive service, and excellent price points. I will definately recommend!

We stiill love this restaurant, old and new, have been patrons for 25+ years, through its evolution. But the bar is no the longer special, comfortable place to have a cocktail before dinner, liquor selection is limited although wines are excellent with the food. The service this time was not as precise as it could have been.

Lunch with a regular lunch group of 4 (can be much larger group). Table beside us was a large loud group of women, no problem, but asked to be moved. We were moved and lunch was fine. On the way out waiter stopped me to tell me some drinks weren't transferred and would I take care of them. I did. However, professionally speaking they needed to suck them up - it was not our fault. I was surprised that I owed more money after settling the tab in what is really not a very large venue. At least they didn't go after my guests for the drinks they failed to transfer, won't be back.

We went here because...well...we never have after 20 years of living in the City. Only complaint: it was noisy. Yes I'm getting old but this was really loud and it was all patron clatter, not the music. Anyway, the food was great. Apps were the shortrib tacos (amazing) and the grilled calamari (very good). Good fish dishes. Good sides. Interesting kale salad that I would not get again. But, i will recommend this place.

OK, so it wasn't the Fog City that we had seen reviewed on TV...But did this knock our socks off! Everything was just wonderful! The food was outstanding: very fresh tastes, the best hamburger we have ever had, just everything was awesome (well, not the ginger ale...) The staff was friendly and warm, and we had an incredible time there. Make your reservations early! When we left, there was a long line waiting to get a table. They are sure trying. The new ambiance is sort of refined suburban coffee shop. good burger, great fries. That is good for me. The service is friendly and professional. The desserts are excellent. The sandwiches and salads are a bit amateur...they know they need to strew greens, so a bale gets down. You have to ask for salt and the avocado wasn't seasoned. But overall, I will be back. But they need to heed Alice Waters' mantra: best ingredients and don't doll them up too much. They have the first part pretty much down, but someone int he kitchen is clueless.

The restaurant was beautifully redone but, as seems to be the case with most new restaurants, very little sound absorbing material is used thus making the sound level more than "Energetic" but somewhat uncomfortable. We were sat in a booth next to which a group were so loud my companion and I had difficulty hearing each other. Aside from that, the service, food, and drinks were PERFECT!

Fog City serves oysters on the half shell. Several problems with them. One-- the cost is $3.50 per oyster! The oysters were not served cold; they had a dot of sauce on them (no little ramekins filled with sauce here) and each oyster had a bad-tasting piece of old parsley on it. Really bad flavors. Other restaurants charge $1.95 per oyster, so the price here was ridiculous. Two-- the food looks lovely, but the taste is just not there. This is more of a bar scene with appetizers, rather than a place to dine.

We had not been back to Fog City for years! So we were pleasantly surprised to find it even better than before. I definitely liked the new menu more than the old menu. Our waiter was extremely solicitous and paid attention to details, something that is important for everyone but especially so for one of the members of our party. We will definitely be back within a much shorter time frame.

Fog City is a classic San Francisco restaurant. Come early for your reservation and enjoy a drink at the bar - great layout and excellent cocktails. The dinner menu is a delight - plenty of options and each dish is created with care. We always get the deviled eggs (the crispy quinoa is fantastic) and the roast chicken... the caramelized lemon really makes the flavors shine. Be sure to save room for dessert, the egg yolk caramel with strauss ice cream and homemade donuts is wildly delicious.

Loved my visit to Fog City. The long bar in the center of the restaurant is open and inviting and there are tables lining both sides of the bar. It’s a fun energetic atmosphere whose style is clearly San Franciscan. The service was friendly and hip; the exact recipe for a good time. The food was inventive and delicious. I will definitely return the next time I'm in the area. Check out my blog review at http://www.delish-dish.com/steeped-in-history-fog-city-sf-gets-reinvented/.

Fog City (formerly Fog City Diner) is a place I visit every time I am in San Francisco. It's never failed me for brunch or lunch. This was the first time I've been there since "diner" has been removed from the name, and the place has been remodeled. There's some melancholy for the old place, which had a more extensive brunch menu. The food is fancier now, and the service more "professional". However, even though it's a major tourist attraction, the food is still very good as are the drinks. The wait staff is still welcoming and friendly and not intrusive. The prices are higher, but not outrageously so. Mus try their version of a Bloody Mary.

Incredible bread, deviled eggs, summer tomato salad w/blue cheese and butter lettuce, followed by halibut was scrumptious. I returned with a different group 4 nights later for a repeat but also had the French fries (killer!) this time (group app) and substituted the clams for the halibut. LOVE this place, my new go to for business lunches with clients. Great food, great location/view. My last lunch, my client was 15 minutes behind, I offered to wait at the bar, and they let me sit down anyway at the table, no rushing, and lovely service. The dishes we chose were delicious. We started with an Autumn organic tomato salad and a red and orange beet salad. We highly recommend the wood oven roasted chicken. It is mouth watering, prepared with onions, small potatoes and corn on the cob. The desert was delicious as well, a lovely small glass filled with vanilla icecream, berries and soft meringue. The chicken takes one hour to cook and is $35.00 and well worth it. Order as soon as you get in.

Terrible food. 5 of us left all feeling the same. I asked for a simple chicken sandwich and they told me it was going to be the pulled Chicken which would have been fine except it was totally dried out like it had been sitting for days. No kids menu and the waitress rolled her eyes when we asked for Mac n Cheese with no ham. The made a mistake still on the order and when the manager came over he was less than accommodating. So simple to make us happy yet just couldn't pull it off.

The chicken is the best thing on the menu. They roast it in this oven to perfection. Actually that wood burning open oven is the heart of the flavor of all the items on the menu. We had a family birthday dinner here for a party of 7. We were greeted warmly and courteously and seated quickly. Our waitperson was all that she should be – just attentive enough, and not too much. The appetizers were excellent – crab cakes, the fries were to die for, salads, and oysters – just briny and crunchy enough. I have to say that we would rather dress our oysters ourselves and not have them arrive prepared already. Having the hot sauce on the front end can be shocking to your throat. The whole chicken is amazingly prepared. We had 3 of those – everyone wanted chicken this time and one steak. We can't get enough of it. The evening did not disappoint.
