We had 6 people so we tried may of the appetizers & all were wonderful. The chicken entree cooked int he wood fired oven is spectacular. The drinks/ wines were great. The only thing that was off was our waiter but we mentioned it & the manager replaced him with a server that was very good.

It took 30 min to get the entree after finishing my salad. The waitress did not provide an update and only came by 23 minutes after my salad was done to inform me that my entree was being plated as we speak. I had to walk to the kitchen 6 minutes later and ask why is the plating was taking so long. I was going to say, "forget platting just give me my food. I am hungry." Despite the poor service and status update of my food, the food was tasty and cooked very well.

But they were nowhere to be found. The new ones aren't nearly as good. There is too much breading and the sauce was insipid. The squid was yummy though and the salads were delicious.

Restaurant has a sleek, mid century modern vibe. Arrived early. The restaurant was not that busy, but we waited at the bar for a table. The bartender ignored us for 15 minutes before bothering to offer a cocktail menu, then it took forever for a drink to arrive. To put it bluntly, the bartender was a complete ---hole, walking past us many times without even acknowledging we were there...and were few folks scattered around the bar area. Not the best way to begin an evening out.The remainder of the staff were accommodating enough. Crab cakes were better than average. Both main courses were overcooked: a grilled swordfish and chicken, though they looked attractive. The overall appearance of each dish looked more inviting than the actual flavor.

Great restaurant for 6 friends from around the country to meet for dinner in SF. Food was outstanding-we ordered their 'small plates" and shared the brussel sprouts, mac & lobster which many reviewers recommended--wonderful. Roasted tomato soup & Kale salad also excellent. Come for conversation and a great meal!

the make over was very good. we wEnjoyed the change. what was not good - everything is ala cart. the most surprise was bread was $3.00 for four slices for four people. the special of NY steak and frys was expensive yet the ny steak was one third of the thickness of a real ny steak. also not cooked medium rare as requested. waiter pushed a wine with out telling the cost. this turned out to be $120 a bottle for. fairly good Pino noir. I complained about both. got four deserts of their choice not ours. host was told that it was my daughters birthday. they did nothing to celebrate that. no special cake with a candel. nothing!

I made the reservation on line with no problem even with a bit of a large group (11). Some other places would not let me make the reservation due to the size of the group. I had heard that the restaurant had updated itself and had a whole new menu. I had reasonable expectations that it would fit the bill for our family celebration. I am happy to say that it exceeded my expectations. The food was fantastic, the cocktails memorable and the service was friendly, efficient and unpretentious. Even when some of our party arrived late, it was not a problem. Those of us who were on time were seated and had our appetizers brought out immediately. When the rest of our party arrived they were greeted warmly and served promptly. We will be back!

Last visit to Fog City (Diner) was many years ago. The change created a larger space and the food was surprisingly excellent. We had lunch. Our server introduced himself as a new waiter but he did a wonderful job serving us. We shared a salad (radicchio w/blue cheese and walnuts--excellent salad!) and the salmon smorgasbord which was also very enjoyable. A dessert that we shared were the two crullers and we chose one w/orange sauce and the other chocolate. The orange sauce was not very orange-y. But donuts were fresh and good!! We would return to try other items from the menu. Thanks for the good food and service!!

Thought the food was excellent, starting with the deviled eggs. Flavor burst and great texture from the toasted quinoa. Short rib tacos melt in your mouth. My least favorite was the tuna tartare, still good, but didn't love the texture of the rice cakes. Chinese chicken salad was solid.

Great Brussels sprouts and deviled eggs. Also kale salad, pork chop and ribs were excellent. Sowardfish was good but very small portion for the price. Can't comment on other tables but our waiter was in snooze land. Fortunately our table of 7,was there more for conversation than food but the huge delays were annoying. I would return for the food and perhaps sit at the huge bar for better attention.

First time there since they renovated the place and apparently changed their name from "Fog City Diner" to "Fog City". Nice experience; good wine and beer list, good quality food I would describe as "upscale comfort", which is my favorite. Went there with my wife and 4 1/2 year old daughter. Had a nice sized booth, and they were very friendly to her. Our reservation was at 6:00pm on a Saturday and arrived at 5:30p and they were pretty open but far from dead. Friendly staff, nice decor, enjoyed every thing about it.

I had a wonderful meal and great time at Fog City. When the reservation was made, we indicated it was my birthday. I figure folks never read this stuff but they actually had a special birthday welcome card and brought ice cream with a candle for dessert. I had the Siagon dip sandwich which was one of the best things I have had in the last six months. Great staff even accomodated charging of my phone. Wish I lived closer! Thanks for a great time!

Really enjoyed our dinner here. Loved the small plates. The two of us shared about 4 of them. Standouts include the calamari, brussel sprouts, deviled eggs. Our server was great. He didn't hesitate to tell us what he thought was best, which I greatly appreciate. They had lots of staff focused on your table so someone was constantly bringing and clearing items.

Years ago this was a favorite spot. After a bad spell, Fog City is back. Food is super tasty and creative. The small and large plates are fun to share and portions generous. We particularly enjoyed the Deviled Eggs, Broccoli, and heavenly Brussel Sprouts. The French Fries were special as was the Mac and Cheese. Fish and Ribs were cooked perfectly and served hot...really important to me. Next time I will have the Roast Chicken! The only reason I reserved 1 star was because service was slow even though our waiter was knowledgeable and nice. It also was way too noisy for me but I realize this may be an age related issue.

We had the rib-eye and the cheeseburger, which is supposedly well-known in SF. The ribeye was great, however it comes dressed with extra items and a relish so if you prefer your steak au-natural then you may want to request no extra items on it. The burger was so-so, certainly not what I'd consider one of SF's best but it was good. You will also have to order your bread if you want some, $3. Overall a nice visit except for the tight seating near the circular window (if you prefer more space you might want to avoid this area). The man sitting next to me who obviously had one too many apple-tini's with his date was a little annoying...and a little too close. I recommend this restaurant for great food and a really good price.

I'm surprised this place isn't jam-packed on the weekend. When you're out on the bay and treading the Embarcadero, it'll be a crying shame if you don't stop in for a cocktail or a burger (or, ideally, both) before enjoying more of the day. Sidewalk seating is ample and the views from inside across to the bay are beautiful.

Went to Fog City Diner with a group of co-workers. The food is interesting and tasty. Generally up-scale, foodie versions of comfort food (fries, mac & cheese), but some surprises like the brussel sprouts with pear. The atmosphere is buzzy and at peak can boarder on just plain loud. This was fine with our group, but would be tough if you were trying to conduct any business, for example.

I had 4:45 reservations for 2. My dinner guest and I both ordered the Burgers. One was to be "well". It was beyond undercooked. A little pink, and I could've dealt but, it was seriously uncooked through out the entire middle. When the waiter returned to check on how our dinner was, I politely pointed out my not well done burger. I sent it back, and got no substitution because, I didn't have another hour to wait on food. My dinner guest took one bite of his burger, and we decided we were done, and ready to just go.It was fleet week, and very busy but, that's not any excuse for such a well recommended restruarant/diner. Two sodas, 1 bite of a burger, and $45 later. I was less than impressed!

I have been visiting Fog City Diner for 20 years when I come to San Francisco. My recent visit was to a remodeled space, but the basic product offering remains strong. When we arrived our table was ready and we were promptly seated even as the restaurant was busy. The food and the service are first rate and the newly designed space, {At least since my prior visit}, updates the feel of the restaurant. The wine list is not extensive but it offers a fine selection of California wines, fairly priced. I would recommend the restaurant without reservation to anyone visiting San Francisco.

Fog City Diner was one of my favorite spots when I lived in SF years ago. Returned this week with friends on their first trip to SF...and her birthday. I wanted something iconically SF and fun...so, I was hoping that Fog City would come through for me again. And how!!! We had a fabulous dinner there...in no small part to our waiter, Perry, who took charge of a "family style" meal for us of a selection of wonderful dishes he combined to celebrate my friend's birthday...along with a perfect wine selection and finished off by an exquisite port. The dishes were classics but with the Fog City extras..perfect ingredients from the local blue cheese in the radicchio and frisee salad to a ribeye steak that was melt in your mouth fantastic.

Lunch with a regular lunch group of 4 (can be much larger group). Table beside us was a large loud group of women, no problem, but asked to be moved. We were moved and lunch was fine. On the way out waiter stopped me to tell me some drinks weren't transferred and would I take care of them. I did. However, professionally speaking they needed to suck them up - it was not our fault. I was surprised that I owed more money after settling the tab in what is really not a very large venue. At least they didn't go after my guests for the drinks they failed to transfer, won't be back.
