Diner Reviews
  • "The meal was enjoyable, especially the seafood chowder and beet salad. The salmon was good, but tasted like it had been basted in butter or oil. Grilled perfectly, though. Fun cocktails and nice wines available by the glass. Service was very good."

  • "Waiter was "as pretentious as they come" ... once he finally decided to wait on us ... the food was EXCELLENT ... great presentation ... prepared perfectly with great taste ... would have been one of best experiences if waiter could loose his attitude ..."

  • "We were recommended to try Flying Fish by a hotel employee. Its decor is very nice and and soothing inside. Since we don't get fresh seafood often, we wanted to try as many seafood places as possible. We were very disappointed that on Saturday evening, Flying Fish was completely out of crab for our 8:00 dinner. They had evidently had a busy lunch rush of crab. The fried fish in curry sauce appetizer wasvvery yummy!. The mussels were interesting but didn't have a lot of flavor. The salmon and the linguini with clams were decent. They were kind enough to substitute the clams with grilled shrimp for our daughter. She ate everything except the mushrooms! The wine list is limited but they have a full bar. Decent food and nice ambience."

  • "A terrific menu of Pacific Northwest fish, a good variety of preparations. The restaurant did not have a vegetarian option for one of our guests and graciously created a delicious meal for her. Highly recommend this place"

  • "I used to eat here a lot. Great chicken sandwich which they Changed. I don't like it now. The kitchen staff is chaotic and don't know what they are doing. Wait staff friendly and at the mercy of the kitchen. Burger medium was well done. Sorry to say but I've been my last time for lunch."

  • "My wife and I went for dinner. Food was great and very personable service. Mixed drinks did not skimp on alcohol. Highly recommend."

  • "I have not been to Flying Fish since the move into new location. The new building sign is non-discript just like everything else. Character, value, feeling lost when moved to fancy building."

  • "Had dinner reservations for four, and we were welcomed by a polite and attentive staff. We brought a bottle of wine and were looking to buy another and were offered a great wine not on the menu. The food overall was good. The salmon and swordfish were fantastic, but the fish tacos were a little too spicy. Staffing seemed to be a bit light, as the service was a little slow."

  • "From holding our reservation for two extra hours to the ambiance to the delightful service absolutely terrific the food was beyond wonderful the Calamari was outstanding and every dish we ordered was a work of art and most importantly tasted amazing. This is a restaurant not to be missed!!"

  • "Albacore tuna with risotto was superb. Tuna was very fresh and seasoned perfectly. Risotto was creamy and had lovely bits of mushroom and edamame. Looking forward to going back for more soon."

  • "We had a variety of seafood appetizers and entrees. All were very good. Service was very slow. Our server was great when he was there. It seemed obvious that he was working very hard so I wonder if they were short staffed. The slow service did detract from the overall experience."

  • "We really enjoyed coming to Flying Fish. Our server was attentive but not overly in our face. He kept up with our water, beer, and food."

  • "It had been a while since we had been to the Flying Fish but it did not disappoint. The new location is beautiful and the food was amazing as always. We had a group of six and all of us ordered different dishes and shared bites - I can't tell you what was the best as they were all amazing!!! The Flying Fish is wonderful and it will definitely be back on our hot list for great food."

  • "We had a party of 5. We began with clams, calamari, and oysters. All were fantastic, great flavors and good presentation. Entree's were all flavorful and well prepared. My only qualm was the only reservation we were able to get was a 5:45 for Saturday night. We arrived to a completely empty restaurant and the only tables sat through our dinner were walk ins with no reservation. We were there until 7:30...still empty. We were sat at a table directly behind the hostess stand...not ideal for a reservation and empty restaurant. Server was distracted, especially for having no other tables."

  • "The food was very good. Four of us met for lunch. We all drove in separately from other areas in the city, which proved to be the biggest detractor. Parking during the day in Amazon land is horrific. I understand that in the evening when all the Amazonians have fled, parking is easier and cheaper. "

  • "Our server was friendly, but she didn't really "get" the timing of our meal. I found her intrusive and pushy with regard to drinks, but then she failed to clear the salad plates before our entrees were delivered by another server. The result was an awkward shuffle that had him trying to balance cleared plates and new servings on both arms, and when he put some of them down on the empty table next to ours, the host picked that precise moment to bring a new party to that table, so he had to reverse the process and stand there with everything until our server noticed the problem and came back to our table. I thought she also lacked much of a repertoire in answering questions about wine beyond "that's dry" or "that's more sweet". "

  • "We used to frequent this spot before they moved. It's terrible now. Food was overcooked, service was slow, menu was 'normal'. Was much better everything when it was in Belltown. Not sure what happened."

  • "We went to brunch on Mother's day expecting a great meal. The restaurant was half full to our surprise. After ten minutes of waiting, I had to get up and ask the host if we had a waiter assigned to our table. We had to beg our waitress for bread, then didn't see her again for almost 20 minutes when our food was served. Another competent waiter who seemed to be handling several large parties thankfully filled our water glasses after we asked. She then brought our apps out, then 2 mins later brought our main course…too bad it would be cold by the time we could start eating it. Part of the order wasn't right and instead of bringing a new one, they simply brought a side. Tried to talk to someone, but NO manager working. Won't be back!"

  • "Great place for large groups, but also very nice for small date might. Food was best I had while in Seattle visiting sister. Shared the Rockfish appetizer and had the chicken as main course. Everything complimented each other very well."

  • "It was okay. I met my daughter for dinner, Open Table indicated the restaurant was "South Lake Union", I made the reservation expecting to be on the water...not, that's my bad. Server didn't know the menu, when we asked questions she replied; "Uhm, Uhm, let me find out". We struggled to get her attention for minutes as she was walking from point to point. Other servers just walked by...It was a Tuesday and not that busy."

  • "We attanded this restraurant on a Sunday evening which was a lot less busy than our normal Saturday. All four of the dinners found the food to be of good quality and the service very friendly and attentive. The wine list is rather limited but adequate. All in all a good but not great restaurant in an up and comming area of Seattle."

  • "I found Flying Fish by googling "Best seafood in Seattle". It was great. We enjoyed the happy hour (raw oysters @ $1 each, soft shelled crabs and calamari). The margarita and martini were perfect. Dinner was the Bouilibase (sp) and it was just so-so. The squid ink was not tasty or attractive. A traditional tomato base would be better. The whole fried Rockfish, however was amazing. I turned into a raging beast eating the bones and sucking on what I couldn't swallow. Good thing we didn't know anyone there - could be embarrassing. Walked away happy. We will return the next time we visit your town."

  • "My first time to this restaurant. Lots of fish selections to tempt the tastebuds and a couple good non-fish items for those in the group. I thought my salmon was cooked perfectly and the meal, in-general, was outstanding. Nice wine selection. The service was great as well. I did think the pricing was a bit high for the portion size however. I realize there is a bit of artistry in plating but I'd have preferred a few more potatoes and asparagus with the entre, especially since salads were ala carte."

  • "Our server gave great advice and was very entertaining in a very professional manner. Swordfish was spectacular!"

  • "The fish tacos arrive on a large plate with perfectly grilled and spiced pieces of salmon, black cod and halibut, handmade corn tortillas, fresh guac, marinated jicama, and some delicious bean condition. My dining partner and I both ordered smalls and were stuffed. I am glad I didn't order a large because I would have eaten like a goldfish. The host and waiter were both very friendly and attentive. I will definitely go back to try some of their other offerings."
    Dined on 3/27/2014
  • "The service was good. The $12 glass of wine, not very good. The $28 small piece of halibut was dry. The $12 Caesar salad was bitter. I eat out a lot and love food and love to cook. I do not understand why fish has to be dry and so expensive. The wine I ordered cost around $12 a bottle, do they really expect to sell it for $48 (4 glasses from a bottle) and think that is fair. Usually it is twice what it is retail and I get that, but this is ridiculous. And, no I did not complain because I was with friends and did not want to make a scene. Sad that more people, including me, don't complain. I guess we do because we don't go back."

  • "We have been to Flying Fish a few times now and always get the salt and peppered wok fired crab. It Is absolutely delicious (and fun to eat). We also had the crispy calamari this time which was wonderful with very tasty dipping sauces. This was our anniversary dinner for which we took the train from Portland to have. Well worth it! We will return and always tell our friends they have to go."

  • "This was a recommend by a friend. Gave it a try with out of town guests. The food was unique with fabulous blends coming together. Appreciated the different seafood offerings, not the typical northwest fair. Our server was very sweet but a bit over attentive to the point of disruptive, but not to the point of spoiling the evening. Easy $4 parking right across the street. Truthfully, I look forward to going again!"

  • "We had a great dinner, with excellent service and great food. The mahi mahi was wonderful. The only downside....my dining companions didn't like the lemon and lavender creme brulee. Otherwise, the dinner was great!"

  • "My girlfriend and I went their to celebrate our birthdays and it was absolutely spectacular! I had the albacore with risotto which melted in my mouth. The light sauce was such a perfect complement and I practically inhaled it. My girlfriend ordered the fish tacos and the presentation was so lovely we laughed out loud! We expected tacos wrapped in paper but we got a silver tray that made even this light lunch version feel like a banquet. NOTE: She ordered the small size of tacos and it was still plenty. She couldn't finish it! Our waitress gave us excellent wine advice and I sort of regretted not ordering dessert. I guess I will have to come back!"

  • "This restaurant used to be good. It had my favorite happy hour, and the food was always delicious. It was sold sometime rather recently. The menu has changed dramatically; the fantastic fried chicken is gone, as are the awesome appetizers. I had the worst fish tacos that I have ever had. The fish was dry and overcooked. It appeared to me that the whole dish was microwaved to reheat the food. The crab cakes were mostly bread and flavorless. The best thing on the table was the bread. It was also very expensive. Top flight charges for poor food is a bad combination. Avoid it - Seattle has so many fantastic restaurants."

  • "I've had 2 good experiences at this restaurant before. On Feb 27th, I went in with my friend for lunch and everything was just okay. Neither of us really thought our meals were anything special. On the contrary my friend said he wouldn't go back there. I had the grilled chicken sandwich because I've had it before and remember thinking "this is the best chicken sandwich I've ever eaten." Unfortunately on this day, it was just plain and nothing special at all. All and all, I felt like I could've gotten the same sandwich at the Seattle Center food court for half the price."

  • "For the price, we were disappointed. Nothing was bad but the food overall -- caesar salad, salmon, scallops -- was mediocre. The dessert was very good. There are much places in Seattle for the price."

  • "My husband and I had a lovely date night at Flying Fish Seattle recently. It was a Saturday but not too busy, so we could converse easily. He had monkfish which was succulent, with great mushrooms. I had seared tuna which was very good, though you need to like it very rare! The rice was called "grapefruit infused" though I didn't notice anything special, pretty much my only complaint. For dessert we had poached quince which was really yummy and they substituted coconut sorbet since I am avoiding dairy, which was appreciated. Very nice meal and a pretty good deal for high quality food and service."

  • "This restaurant has been a long time favorite, but our last experience was disappointing. The Food arrived cold, it was apparent it had been sitting a long time. I had talked about a wine pairing for my meal, the wine didn't arrive until well after the cold food."

  • "Portions were small. I had the mahi mahi and it was only like a 4 oz. I was still hungry afterwards. Our waiter also needed to learn how to socially interact with people. He was stuff with no personality. Wine was good with good selection."
