  • "My one son had the stripper and I had the pan seared scallops. They were very good. My husband and my other son had the sword fish. Tasteless. It only had olive oil and some peppery pesto sauce. Way too expensive for what you got in terms of food, atmosphere and view. I can understand paying for a view but your view is looking down on another restaurant and a cookie place. The atmosphere inside was very plain. Felt ripped off spending $3.00 a bottle for a soda. Not worth the money."

  • "We began our experience at Fluke with an argumentative maître de who said we did not have reservation we actually had booked on Open Table. They fortunately had a cancellation moments before we walked in so they sat us, although not without hesitation! Meanwhile there were 3 empty tables the entire time we were there! In terms of the food, 3 out of 4 dishes were very, very average (seafood linguine and mako) and expensive. The only good dish was scallops, which if you venture into the restaurant, I do recommend. The green bean tempura first plate was also worthwhile. Skip the desserts and get a waffle cone at Ben and Jerry's! It will make for a better evening!!"

  • "Very nice. Great food and service. Felt a bit rushed initially because we were late and when we rang to tell them they said we only had an hour and a half slot anyway which was industry norm!. Loved the Fluke sunset cocktail and we were not rushed so initial anxiety was not necessary"

  • "We booked last minute and the reservation went through flawlessly. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We were sat by a window overlooking the wharf. Simply stunning. Will go back again. The crispy oysters changed my life!!!!"

  • "You may be walking right by Fluke every time you are downtown but you're missing out! We have been several times and it has become our go to spot. My favorite drink is Ocean Drive and each time I go I try a different plate. The vegetable tart and lobster avocado salad are a must to try! Enjoy!"

  • "Best seating is top level by the bar. Great for sunsets over the harbor and bridge. Owners are very hands on. Peak hours are slammed so reservations for large parties are a must. Ambiance is fantastic. Cocktail highlights are #1 Grape Crush and in no particular order are Juniperotivo, Fire Dancer, Sun Potion and Fluke Sunset. Fresh herb garden on the bar is a plus. Menu highlights are Foie Gras, Almond Filled Bacon Wrapped dates, Roasted Eggplant Puree and Veal Meatballs. For the large plates the Rabbit, Duck, Scallops and Farrotto (risotto style) are winners. The normal basic items are excellent as well. Portions are satisfactory and easy to share. Make reservations as this place hops. Or at least go for a martini."

  • "The restaurant is located on a Newport Wharf, up on the second floor - you look over the harbor and the bustling scene of the town. Its charming, crisp and clean, surrounded by windows. I felt that, since I was not ordering alcohol, I was immediately dismissed as a "serious" customer by our waitress. I got the Potato and Chorizo Croquettes that were to die for! I finished with the Duck which was well cooked, seasoned and dressed. The food was spectacular (smaller portions though!), however the waitstaff as I mentioned before was lack luster. I expect to be greeted warmly and asked if I need anything or how to meal is 1/2 way through. Our order was taken after other people who sat down after us, and it took a long time to get our food."

  • "Went to Fluke on a Saturday night. Apparently the restaurant was overwhelmed by the presence of customers, because it ran out of one of the entrees and all of the bread. (20 minutes after I asked for bread, my server told me they had some rolls and she would bring them right up to me. Never did.) We were still waiting for our mains 1/2 hour after appetizers were cleared. I mentioned this to our server, the hostess came to our table to apologize -- & explained at length how busy they are this evening so of course these things happen. By the time our food arrived we were so hungry we wolfed it down, and couldn't wait to get out. On my way out, I spoke to hostess, who argued with me about whether our entrees were actually so late. "

  • "Waitress brought the wrong dish and I ate basically when everyone was done. They didn't take my dish off the bill. Poor management style. The waitress seemed to be confused over various orders through out the night. They took my wifes drink away before she finished it. The seemed to want to pick up finshed plates before you were really done with them. Sad, the food, drinks and the place is great! They need to focus on the customers experience and pay attention to detail. Devil in a business is in the details!"

  • "This was our first stop in Newport after a long car ride and omg it was probably our fav hands down of our trip. The drink list was long and delicious. And the menu was varied and totally up to our nyc foodie standards. Everything we ate was not only incredibly delicious but well presented. Simple, elegant and super tasty. The menu is also good for fish and non fish eaters alike. We sat upstairs by the window and were able to watch the sunset over dinner. The server was super nice, and even let us switch to a closer window table mid way through. We will definitely be back. It was slightly more expensive, but totally worth it! "

  • "On a recent long weekend in Newport, we thought we were booking another restaurant recommended by a friend but ended up in Fluke. It was a very lovely surprise. The service was smooth and efficient and very friendly. Even though it is more of a foodie, grown-up establishment they accommodated the needs of our two children with an abundance of charm. The food was excellent - modern, innovative and well executed, we would go back! For people dining without kids we noticed they have a nice bar area upstairs from the restaurant area that was nice and buzzy. "

  • "The service at Fluke was well above average. The food was flavorful, yet the servings were quite small. Small servings and high prices do not do it for me. The server recommended that each member of our party each get a small plate (app) and a large plate (main course). When asked why, we were told the portions were small. Ambiance was just ok, it was like being in a house. Great location on Bowens wharf and nice harbor view at the third floor bar."

  • "So often restaurants with a 'view' serve mediocre food....not the case here. The menu was interesting, the wine list (both by the glass and bottle) was fairly priced, and the service was good. We sat at a window table on the 3rd floor, and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. Dining outside would be my first choice if the weather cooperated! I had a lovely pea soup (your choice if it's served warm or cold), and my husband had a 'cress' salad with beets, pancetta, and a roasted farm-fresh egg that he raved about, I would have given the restaurant 5-stars for the food, except my husbands fluke (ironic, huh?), was basically tasteless. My duck confit was very nice, but not amazing. I would try this restaurant again, and refer to friends."

  • "We had dinner at Fluke and it's one of the best restaurants we've eaten at. We usually eat at places in the choice lists of Open Table as this one is and have eaten at fine places all over the US. Fluke is right at the top. My wife started with the mushroom tart with locally grown mushrooms and raved about it. She had the grilled shrimp with tortilla strips appetizer as her entree and raved about it too. I had the mussels with chorizo and they were the best I've had anywhere. I had the Farrotto for my entree as I love risotto and decided to try this variation. It was excellent also. The wine list is great, but the service is even better, from both our wait person and the person who appeared to be the manager."

  • "We both found the food, beverages and dessert to be delicious. At times I felt we were being rushed, we barely finished our last bite before the plate was taken away. The one thing that bothered me a bit, was only being given one slice of bread. I found that odd, I like bread with my meal."

  • "This is a great restaurant. We have been here 3 years in a row and have had a great meal every time. The food is fresh, flavorful and prepared impeccably. Our waitress is knowledgable about the food and wine. The fried oysters appetizer is the best thing on the menu!! I have had the scallops whichnwere delicious, cooked perfectly. I had the duck confit this weekend and it too was delicious. My husband had the fluke and ate everything on his plate. The menu changes with what is fresh and available, but is always a top notch selection. The cocktails are also fun and delicious. I'd recommend making a reservation in plenty of time, they fill up quickly and it isn't a large place. "

  • "Quiet Monday night we had reservations to celebrate our anniversary. I had mentioned that it was for this occasion. Greeted promptly, waitress came over to say hello then proceeded to pour us a glass of champagne (on the house). The small plates. salads, large plates were fabulous. Different and well prepared. (The almond and date wrapped in bacon and the foie gras mouse were exceptional. Duck Confit wonderful). I hope everyone can enjoy the great dining experience at Fluke as my husband and I did. "

  • "It is no fluke -- no bit of good luck -- that this restaurant is one of Newport's very best. Owner jeff Callaghan and his wife are true professionals, keeping a close eye on everything in the front of the house, while their kitchen team executes a varied and fairly priced menu. Jeff also is a wine buff, so Fluke has one of thebest lists in the city. And being perched above the vibrant Newport waterfront scene gives this restaurant a special twist."

  • "My wife and I were lucky to get a table for Saturday evening at the end of restaurant week. Ambiance was very nice. Fluke has dining on the second and third floors with views over the Harbor. Even with a busy evening, service was impeccable, staff was helpful and friendly. They have great and creative cocktails. We both chose to try the restaurant week three course meal. Lots of oohs and ahhs as we traded plates back and forth. Loved it!! Will definitely return our next visit tomNewport and would definitely recommend to friends."

  • "Located near the water with a great view of the harbor, Fluke has a very nice wine list, unique and tasty menu items and very friendly and helpful staff. The Restaurant Week menu was creative and each choice sounded delicious, and our group of 3 chose different items, all of which were flavorful and beautiful. I particularly enjoyed the Empanaditas of Asparagus, Caramelized Onions, Feta Cheese, Roasted Tomato Chutney, and the Meyer Lemon Creme Brule. Large windows and fresh flowers created a feeling of being outdoors, while the view of the pier and harbor reminded us that we were in Newport. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We look forward to another visit."
