Floriostumbled on a gemI picked this place thinking it was the one up the street. It turned out to the perfect place. I was with 4 others, who ran into two people they knew and none of us lived in the neighborhood! We tried 5 different plates (family style) from salads to pasta to seafood to beef and then on to dessert. All was delicious. The atmosphere was friendly and very hometown San Franciscan. We thought the roasted chicken was a winner as always and the papardelle bolognese was equally delicious. NIce crisp butter lettuce salad with a nicely balanced simple vinegarette. The butterscotch pudding didn't hurt either...yummy. Well paced excellent service too. Ironically, the dish one expects would be be excellent In a French bistro setting was very disappointing--4 tiny 3" long slices of blood rare steak (medium rare was ordered) accompanied by a flavorless bernaise sauce, a handful of arugula with a non-descript dressing and cold poorly cut fries. Barely okay at any price, but a joke at $31.00. We have been to this restaurant in the past and the found the portions a more adequate size and all dishes to be delicious, especially the steak frites. Tables are close together so when it fills up, conversation can become more problematic. Waiter was pleasant and knowledgeable and not obtrusive, giving us ample time to chat before ordering our meal. My halibut with asparagus tips and cauliflower puree was very nicely done. The gem lettuce salad, however, was disappointing. Undistinguished, underdressed, and the lettuce was old--not worthy of the $10 price. My companions enjoyed the white asparagus appetizer and the rock cod fish of the day.
