My wife and I recently ate dinner at Fiola and then were able to come to Floriana for the first time not much later. With the advantage of short time in between to compare, Floriana was much better. The pasta was better cooked and the sauces more flavorful. We didn't eat any of the non-pasta entrees, but just comparing the pastas Floriana wins hands down. Combine that with the incredibly pesto for the bread and Floriana is simply a incredibly well-executed fine Italian dining establishment. But this time we took advantage of the Wednesday half-price wines promotion. Great deal and wonderful wines! The food was again really excellent (although the tuna, while ample and succulent, needs a better more tasty accompaniment: it is like tuna sitting in grass). A real highlight was our server (Barrett) who was charming, unintrusive, savvy and made very good suggestions. He's a winner! Suggestion: after two visits, and having chosen the things most attractive on the menu, it might be wise, to continue to attract us, to have a series of specials for returnees like us. The menu doesn't change much, which is good, because everything is rich and delicious and worthy of being enjoyed again and again. The service is always professional -- attentive and understated. On this particular special occasion (a birthday), not only was a complimentary dessert brought to the table, but also a handwritten birthday card from the restaurant -- a very nice, and classy, personal touch. Our table was on the second floor in a lovely small dining room beautifully decorated for the holidays. The wait staff were attentive and knowledgable. The food was delicious, I had the butternut squash ravioli and was tempted to lick my plate. My husband had a chicken dish that was equally impressive.
