Diner Reviews
  • "Some new items on the menu. Had prosciutto benedict. Was ok but the down side no english muffin as a base some hard crusty bread. Don't do the Mimosa unless you like pulp lots of it!!!!"

  • "An especially friendly waiter, a special atmosphere and exceptional food made us very pleased diners. We visit DC quite often, and we definitely plan to return to this restaurant. We loved the intimate dining and the historic surroundings. The food was quite spectacular. My husband rated the lasagna as just about the best he's ever had."

  • "Service remarkable. Ambience lovely but noisy. Food uninspired and hugely disappointing. Expected Italian and got Italian/French 'fusion.' One or the other might have worked, but 'fused' not well done. All the items that included sausage, the sausage was sparsely added as ground sausage with no flavor."

  • "it was a romantic date and the waiters were attentive without being intrusive. lovely setting for a lovely evening."

  • "Excellent meal, except for the Caesar salad (not caesary enough). Butternut ravioli was the best and the shrimp and scallop risotto was very good with the seafood cooked just right."

  • "Lovely place for an outdoor brunch. Service was acceptable and the food was delicious."

  • "As lovers of Italian food, my family wanted to love our first dinner at Floriana. The homemade bread with olive oil was excellent. My winter greens salad was delicious, as was my daughter's Caesar salad. The fried calamari portion was generous, although heavy and a bit spicy for my tastes. My short ribs ravioli was nicely flavored, but too salty. My husband and daughter enjoyed their pork chop and lasagne. My other daughter ordered the NY strip medium-well and it arrived medium-rare. The chef kindly prepared a new steak for her, but when it arrived, the rest of the family was finished eating. There was a long lull before the waiter took our dessert order, but the tiramisu and ice cream were very good. Lovely atmosphere but too noisy."

  • "This was the best lasagna I've ever had in my life!! I highly recommend this place =)! Our waiter was very personable and we loved sitting outside overlooking Dupont Circle!"

  • "My pasta was too salty. My daughter's had no flavor other than the butter it was soaked in. Pasta was so over cooked it was like mush. And to top it off, they were out of gelato and sorbet at 8:00 on a Saturday. Also overpriced for small portions."

  • "OUTSTANDING SUNDAY BRUNCH. Super charming maitre'd from first minute to last, a bubbly waitress serving us lots of bubbly, super fresh eggs. Slam dunk winning experience. Will do again often."

  • "Went here on our first night in DC. If you are staying in the DuPont Circle area, you must try Floriana! It is an easy walk and the food is outstanding! The best calamari we have every had. Entree's were perfectly portioned and delicious...Thumbs up!"

  • "Had some delicious pasta dishes--a-one gnocchi and a ridiculously good shrimp&scallop risotto. Apparently the chef was away tonight, so it's good to know he's got some great lieutenants behind him. A rather bland, uninspired caesar salad was the only miss, but a starter of calamari was solid. Good penetration on the wine list, and really stellar service points. A lot of attention to detail. Also good to learn that they make every single bit of pasta from scratch--the level of care shows through."

  • "I'd heard that this old standby of mine had brought on a new chef who had considerably upgraded what was already fine cuisine, and he has obviously delivered in spades--staggeringly great new menu! My old favorite, their classic lasagna was as brilliant as I remembered, but the new arrival of lamb gnocchi could easily make the '20 Best Eats DC' list. As starters, we enjoyed arancini--packed with more exotic flavor combinations than I've ever seen in that standard and a pork belly that rivalled anything I'd tasted at Cochon 555 this weekend. Service staff well-versed in describing these dishes, attentive w/o being overbearing, & spot on in delivery and the 'little things'. Kudos to this shop for not resting on it's laurels!"

  • "So glad they have brought brunch back! Floriana omelets are some of the best around, a couple more options for eggs would be great, but there's plenty I'm excited to taste. And HELLO...for $14 you can't beat the "bottomless" Bloody Mary / Mimosa, or that they were so nice they let me get a half-price bottle of wine since it was Sunday ( I guess its a thing they do at night). Our waitress even let me switch to mimosa after a couple Bloodies; that's service. Good food, tastes fresh, served hot, and I'm happy. Brunch is great, but lasagna for breakfast is the best. Yummy."

  • "Floriana never disappoints. Our wait staff was energetic and knowledgeable and helped my guests make terrific choices including (of course) theFilet ravioli and Salmon Pate andblack gnocchi appetizers. Everyone raved throughout the meal, which was of no surprise to me, but important since one guest dines out constantly and has a discerning palate. We had an excellent meal and memorable evening."

  • "I had the hazelnut chocolate french toast. When it arrived it looked more like deep friend wings. They were cold and difficult to cut with a knife. This was very disappointing since I had been here in the past and remembered relatively decent food, although even before the taste was nothing particularly special. My friend got the waffle, which had an exotic description, but ended up looking like just your average waffle."

  • "Fantastic pasta. Even though the serving is small, the bread and the garlic/olive they give are really good. Great mood and food."

  • "The calamari we ordered as an appetizer was somewhat mushy and the texture really turned us off. The bread and olive oil dip was delicious. My scallops were amazing but my husband gnocchi was very mediocre. In the past we've had amazing flawless dinners Not sure what is happening in the kitchen. The service was excellent. The seating is a little tight and awkward as we were seated right next to an unused door that led to busy hallway. However out waiter was exceptional and attentive. Will give Floriana another try next time we are in town."

  • "We were drawn in with a Living Social coupon and we loved it. The food was great and it was a pleasure to have drinks on a rare warm evening on the outdoor patio. We will be back."

  • "Nice place. Even tho the weather was great for the patio outside, we sat inside. We had the tortellini and ravioli, along with the meat and cheese plate and salads. The pasta was incredible! Rich, creamy, and delicious."

  • "Had a fantastic experience. The waitstaff was exceptional, and the food is the best I've had in the city."

  • "Brunch was a huge disappointment. Inconsistent service, small portions for the price, and mediocre "frittata." Went to dinner here a couple of times in the past and was hoping Floriana would be my go-to neighborhood brunch spot too, but I do not think I will be returning for brunch or dinner."

  • "Amazing deal on half priced bottles of wine on Wednesday and Sunday. From the bread brought out before the meal to the nutella cheesecake dessert, everything was amazing. The lasagna had an amazing taste that had additional flavors versus your standard lasagna. It was a little loud, but it did not interfere with my conversation. Definitely going back!"

  • "They made arugula salad taste like oxygen and summer in Tuscany The Brussell Sprouts were lemony and crisp, succulent The black squid ink gnocci - stop! Amazing And we made room for entrees, the freshest of pasta Lovely space - a bit formal, but creates a sense of place Enjoy it!"

  • "Amazing little Italian restaurant near Dupont Circle. Great food and wine list! Go on Wednesdays for half priced wine."

  • "Attentive staff, good food. We had a little snafu where they told us they were out of the wine we ordered, then recommended a different wine, then were out of that, the found what we wanted in the first place. But beyond that the service was great. The food was good. Not fantastic, but pretty darn good. The pasta was fresh and delicious, but a bit overcooked. The beet salad was fantastic. The vegetarian options were nice, but a bit too similar (a bunch of variations of pasta with butternut squash). Our biggest complaint was that they jammed too many tables in, so we kept bumping our neighbors."

  • "Literally, the new floors are great. No more skidding around or worrying that my dining partner was going to fall between the cracks. Starting the bar is always a highlight of my evenings here. Great drinks; great wine list; great personalities. On the menu tonight was duck breast which I had yet to try, it was delicious, juicy and flavorful. Enjoyed a new dessert; donuts warm and served with honey, the honey was boring, but the donuts were yummy. I'd always recommend Floriana."

  • "......cannot make up for so-so food served cold. My guest's eggs benedict was served cold and had to be sent back.....it returned with the egg no longer runny. The bacon in my shrimp and grits was rubbery.....and the sauce separated into a runny, soupy mess. Flavoring of all dishes were tasty....so this suggests potential."

  • "I have been to Floriana for drinks and desserts, so I was very excited to try it for a full meal. We each started with a salad (winter berries and Caesar), which were good, but not spectacular. I had the Zucca, which had been recommended to me by a friend. It came with about 6 ravioli, which were under-cooked and not very warm. I had to send it back to be reheated, which is something I rarely do. It was described as having a brown butter sage sauce. It came with one piece of sage and it tasted like the butter was microwaved and dumped on top. My fianc√© had the roasted chicken, which was over-cooked and subpar. We did not even stay for dessert. Positives - great service and ambience."

  • "The food was quite good, but the service was lacking. Everything took a long time, and the waiter wasn't particularly attentive about our drinks. But once the food did arrive, we were pleased with it."

  • "My wife and I had a romantic valentines day dinner here. We had never heard of this place before we chose it based on an urbanspoon search. The wait staff was accommodating and friendly. The food was awesome! They didn't have the glass of super Tuscan I asked for and instead of asking me to pick another, they upgraded the glass from a more expensive bottle of super Tuscan not usually sold by the glass. This was one of the best dining experiences we have had in a long time and they have my highest recommendation."

  • "I took my girlfriend to Floriana for Valentines Day, and it ended up being an ok experience. They had an overpriced Valentines Day menu ($65 per person) with "4 courses", which ended up being 4 very small plates. The food quality was good, but some of the dishes were hit and miss overall. The ambiance was quiet and a little stuffy, I felt like I couldnt have a conversation without everyone hearing me. Overall, I left hungry and with an empty wallet. Check out Giovanni's Trattu for some real Italian food in Dupont!"

  • "If you want to go with a date and actually hear each other talk, this is a great place. in a converted brick row townhouse, it isn't dark and sexy, it's just unfussy cozy romantic. The food is very good reasonable prices and manageable portions. The service is incredibly attentive and polite, even when my date and I didn't order alcohol. The pork tenderloin melted in my mouth and the polenta was crisp on the outside and perfect on the inside."
