Flora - OaklandFun and deliciousFlora is a wonderful choice for an event in that part of Oakland or if you're in the neighborhood and want a night out. The food is outstanding, the cocktails are both creative and absolutely delicious. and the desserts--oh, boy. The menu is relatively restricted, so if you're a high maintenance diner, you may be disappointed. The tables are also rather close together; I wouldn't want to propose or have an argument here. But if you're in the mood for a Paris bistro type experience, you have found your restaurant. A visual and gastronomical treat. Two dozen signature cocktails from some of the premier water holes of the Art Deco period (20's. 30's and 40's) Featuring gin in many of the concoctions, they are very reminiscent of a fantastic slice of American design history. We were in town for The Art Deco Preservation Ball at the nearby fully restored Paramount theater (also an unbelievable gem from the 30's)and Flora had featured a special menu just for Ball attendees. Had the salmon and pork loin chop...both amazing. Wonderful salads and don't miss the salted caramel pudding dessert. Uptown has really been revitalized with new living space and trendy restaurants. Helping to blaze the trail is Flora; a slightly upscale American fare restaurant with exceptional service. I had the roasted chicken on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes while my dining partners had hamburger. Both entrees were perfectly seasoned as well as nicely plated/presented. The most remarkable trait I experienced was Flora's exceptional mixology! If you're into old school cocktails, Flora's got the lock on everyone in the area!
