Diner Reviews
  • "The service was great, very nice people. They just need to work on their food a bit. New chef, perhaps?"

  • "I had heard from friends that this place was good so I tried it out last Saturday night. Food was between good and very good and the wine list was excellent. Was concerned about service as I had read several comments on how it was uneven at best. Being a new place this seems to be the norm. I must say our server, Melissa, was excellent. Prices beat the heck out of some of the other steakhouses in the Santa Rosa area and their menu is varied enough to order other times if not in the mood. Sports bar was great with enough TV's to watch any event. Overall I liked the place, let's see how they progress."

  • "The food was very good. My burger was good, the ribeye was good, everything was very good. The only issue we encountered was that my wife had ordered the risotto and it was very spicy but the fact that it was spicy was not indicated on the menu. So she ate half of it and have the other half to me. Don't get me wrong, it was very good BUT she was disappointed that there was no mention of spice and it was too much for her. Otherwise it was a very pleasant experience."

  • "Suggest reservations, very popular. Prime Rib and baked potato outstanding. Cheese cake so-so."

  • "What a beautiful remodel they did to create this steakhouse! The wine list is great...and should be for wine country! The food was good...and that is a bit generous as we were hoping for great. The prime rib was just okay and cool rather than hot or even warm, the risotto had less rice than mushrooms and asparagus. I could have ordered the mushrooms. I wanted risotto, the special that night. The service was attentive and prices were reasonable. We may return to the sports bar and get drinks and appetizers but will not return for dinner."

  • "It was our first time at Flipside. The food was outstanding and our server was excellent. We would go again."

  • "My wife and I went there for our 32nd anniversary and it was the best night out we have had in a long time. Food, service, ambience were all five star. It was amazing!"

  • "Did a split choice off the menu (there were 2 of us). Queen cut prime rib was excellent, along with a great baked potatoe and all the trimmings + salad. Flipside burger was ok. Would have preferred more of a hard roll, as the bun got very soggy from the carmelized onions and cheese. Ne t time, I will try the fillet. Ate in the bar area. Madeline was a friendly server and checked on us often. Going back and would recommend."

  • "We went to Flipside for my wife's birthday and were pleasantly surprised. Fairly typical steakhouse motif with black leather booths and a meat heavy menu but with a very nice young and vibrant waitstaff. We had salmon which was great and all of the staff were very friendly and attentive. A bit noisy as it is a large open room but overall, a very pleasant place for a special meal."

  • "lovely setting, average food and service, well priced though. probably great for families. keep the expectations low, and you should have a great time."

  • "The second time turned out even better than the first time, which was very good. The garlic truffle french fries are to die for! We had the New York and filet. Both were perfectly cooked and very tasty."

  • "A very nice but young, inexperienced staff for a restaurant like this. Excellent filet mignon but we had to wait for the sauce and had to find our waiter so we could order a bottle of wine to go with our dinner. ....also told our waiter we were in no hurry but then the entrees were brought very close to us finishing our appetizer. . . Timing of things was not good at all. Maybe it's because the restaurant is still new but after spending that kind of money I'd expect a more experienced wait staff."

  • "It's nice to be able to dine so very well close to home, what a privilege! We will be dining at FlipSide Steakhouse often and I encourage everyone to try it. This is a fine dining restaurant and not particularly suitable for children under 12 years old; instead I'd advise going to FlipSide Burger downtown. Only negative: - the music playing in the restaurant was not at all cohesive with the ambiance of the dining experience."

  • "Food was good, my filet mignon was a little too spicy hot but cooked perfectly. Not a fan of a la carte for everything but the prime rib. My dining companions both had the prime rib, which was cooked perfectly and very tasty. Love the black and white photos of Sonoma County. The staff was incredibly attentive."

  • "My cut of medium rare prime rib had to be reheated. I then had a medium well cut. My wife and daughter's medium rare cuts were perfect. I believe my thicker cut sat somewhere for a while."

  • "Excellent professional service in every department, very impressive! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The menu is simple but classic. Everything we've ordered has been absolutely delicious. We have been six times now; four times for dinner and twice for lunch. We anticipate many more future fine food dining at FlipSide Steakhouse!! We highly recommend this restaurant. Side note: The decor is unique and quite beautiful."

  • "Was a great dinner. I love how the wine is priced on the menu. My steak was perfect! The restaurant was crouded and it was loud but didn't bother me. Would go back again for sure."

  • "They hit all the high notes when they created this place. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. The wine list is not extensive but well thought out (AND there is no corkage fee!). The service was outstanding, very prompt without "rushing." We're neighbors and we'll be back often."

  • "It was really loud noise level wise! Probably put not in the best room even though I did have a fabulous time and had a reservation ahead. Food and services were impeccable! I would love to go back but maybe be placed in the front room rather than the banquet room next time!"

  • "A great place to go for a good meal in the hood. Try it out!"

  • "Really imressive atmosphere. Amazed to find this in the loation that it is in, but we were thoroughly impressed!!! The food was a knockout. Great Prime Rib, and the brussel sprouts were awesome!!! Definitely a place we would like to return to. Only concern was the service was a bit off. Food came out at the right times for the most part, but we were missing a dessert for awhile (the others arrived, but one was MIA), and the waitress was a bit hard to find at times. I couch that by saying this is restaraunt week, and the place did fill up during our meal, so our delays may have been impacted by the hectic nature of the time we were there. We will definitely give it another try!"

  • "High prices and too noisy in the dinning room area."

  • "We ordered a bottle of wine and waiter poured half of it immediately. He gave us a few minutes, came back and took our order. He came back 30 minutes later and poured the rest of the wine, still no food. After another 15 minutes our main courses came, never got the salad food runner responded we know, we are trying to figure out what happened, I can take this back to the kitchen and keep it warm. We said no and asked for the check to pay for the wine. the manager came out with salad and says meal is on us. We just wanted our check not a free meal. Finally she said the wine is on us and we left. Not once did anyone come out and say sorry for the delay or let me check on your order. We really were looking forward to trying this place"

  • "Every few weeks, three or four "Car Sisters" gather for dinner, wine and a chat. We were very pleased with our dinners of Princess cut Prime Rib and the small steak. We definitely needed a nice steak house in Santa Rosa that is not outrageously expensive. In addition to the wonderful menu, our waiter was very professional and polite. Loved our dinner and will return!"

  • "The Prime rib is best in Bay Area! Service is fast and friendly."

  • "It's a steakhouse (white tablecloths, nice booths, but tables too small for all serving dishes) .It has a sports bar adjacent to it, but it did not interfere with added noise. It is in a Safeway shopping center, so not so scenic. Replaces an awful restaurant and they have spent months upgrading it. Floor to ceiling glass wine "cellar" which is a nice addition. Prime rib is excellent--only 18.95 for a 9 oz with potato and all fixings. Prime ribs got huge baked potatoes and a salad, but steaks did not--kinda weird to me. Wines we had were nicely priced and a good selection. Surely an addition to the neighborhood, and very popular so far. No corkage at this time, which is excellent. Not for vegetarians."

  • "I have avoided dining at that location for some time because so many restaurants have come and gone there. I had a hunch Flipside would get it right and they have. The interior is completely and tastefully redone...ambiance is important to me. They start the meal with a basket of warm, flaky popovers, which gives you the impression that good things are to come. We enjoyed oysters on the half shell, except the salads arrived almost simultaneously, giving us the feeling of being rushed along. The prime rib was cooked to perfection and the baked potato came with every conceivable topping served on the side. The young lady who served us was very attentive and eager to please. I'm sure we'll return."

  • "I was familar with the Flipside Burger downtown Santa Rosa and it was brought to my attention that they had opened a Steak-house in the Rincon Valley. I had to try it out as it is hard to find a good steak house in the Santa Rosa area. I entertain people from overseas and they always what to try a good steak house, as they all enjoy steak from America. I will be returning as it is a good alternative. Only down side is that the lighting was a little to bright which took away from the overall atmosphere and would not be a place for a romantic evening - to bright."

  • "The prime rib was excellent, the prime salad was lacking. The backed potatoe was cool and under cooked. The sparkling water went flat befor the meal was done. The coffee was excellent. The price is the best in town. The noise level was almost intollerable. We will return! Thank You for a lovely evening"

  • "Wow! As good as it gets. What a transformation from Rita’s and Doc Holidays. We started with the crab cake and the beets, the Beets had just enough sweet and citrus. My guest ordered the prime rib and was cooked perfectly. I ordered the Cowboy cut 24oz Prime Rib eye it was one of the best steaks I have had. Great wine selection and priced as cheap as I have seen in a restaurant. Mike was our server he was attentive and engaging. Thank you for taking reservations, We will be back!"

  • "Our reservations were at 7:00 pm, arrived at 6:30 for drinks. Hostess was overwhelmed, did not get seated until 7:35 . Once seated, one of the best dining experiences ever. Service, selection quality were all epic."

  • "Overall good. The peppercorn rub that comes with every steak is way to salty. My Filet was such a good piece of meat that was overwhelmed by the unnecessary strong and salty rub.The mixed vegetables excellent.. Salad average to below average. They did state that the rub was spicy and offered a half strength, who could know that this would translate to very salty."

  • "This new steak restaurant has great tasting steak! They also have seafood & other dishes as well. We both ordered the 8 oz Filet Mignon with sides of mushrooms & asparagus --which were well prepared. The entrees are ala carte. Consider yourself lucky if you get Josh as a waitperson, he is wonderful. The kitchen was a bit slow, but the restaurant was very crowded due to the weather. The restaurant is noisy, & in a separate area /room of the restaurant there is a sports bar. They are open for lunch & dinner. We will definitely return."

  • "Food was superb, although it took nearly 45 minutes to be waited on. No corkage fee for first bottle of wine (brought our own). Dining room was so loud you couldn't talk to your guests without yelling and lip reading. Waitress said she had to use many methods of communications, including lip reading. They have been open nearly a month, but still experiencing problems. Place will probably make it since they are the only gig in our area with good food. Got the impression they are trying to be a fine dining establishment like Starks Steakhouse, but they are more like a Cattlemen's with all the noise and crowd atmosphere. Can't be a sports bar and fine dining, choose one or the other. Fine dining prices with sports bar ambience, not good!"
