Fleming's Steakhouse - BirminghamService was subpar for Flemming's.We have dined here a lot over the years and have never been disappointed with the food or service. The food was excellent, but the service was a big disappointment. We could hear other servers making an effort to accommodate their guest in the usual Flemming's standard manner, but our server seemed more of a moderate bare-minimum kind of guy. However, it just seems to get better and better. We started out with the Seafood Tower, such a special treat! The entire table were satisfied with their entrees of lobster, swordfish, filet and NY strip cooked to perfection. The chocolate lava cake was the perfect ending to the meal. Service was very attentive, we loved our waitstaff. Chef even sent a special surprise at the end of the meal. The service was excellent - our server, Sean, really kept on top of things while giving some space to celebrate. The food was outstanding. Even though both of us did not have steak, my Pacific Swordfish was fantastic, as was my wife's lamb chops. The wine was great - loved having such a phenomenal list to choose from. The best aspect is the service... not bothersome like some but always attentive and you never want for anything. The food is very good but portion size is sometimes a problem. Our Server didn't hover as we reviewed the wine options, and was helpful in providing recommendations. We ordered French onion soup and a wedge salad. Both were excellent. I ordered a filet, while my husband ordered the bone-in ribeye. Being a steakhouse, the steak should be spot on. And it was! Cooked perfectly, no complaints. However, the sides left a little to be desired. We had Flemings potatoes (greasy) and the chipotle mac and cheese (runny). We enjoyed the flavor of both, but overall execution was lacking. We would definitely visit again, but would skip the sides. We'd have been better off sticking with wine, apps, and steaks, skipping the sides, and saving room for dessert!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMA great night outGreat food, outstanding service, beautiful atmosphere. Since this was a spring visit the restaurant had many prom couples out for a special evening. We enjoyed seeing the young people in their finery and "grown up" manners. They provided a different level of energy to the restaurant. My meal, a steak and lobster combo was great. I opted for the onion soup instead of the salad(having tasted my husband's on a previous visit) and loved it. I have tried to duplicate Fleming creamed spinach at home and have to say I haven't succeeded. I wish I had gotten the heirloom tomato salad as one of our party did. She was still raving about it the next day. The wait staff was outstanding, helpful and attentive,but not abtrusive. The reservationEverything works! The reservation was handled smoothly and the table was waiting for us. Service was personal and impeccable. All of our dinners were exactly as ordered and delicious. The restaurant is always super-clean and comfortable.
The manager stopped by to say 'hello' and make sure everything was handled perfectly.
