A word from Flavor
We believe that reasonably priced "American Comfort Food" is a rapidly disappearing culinary cuisine in the Bay Area. We decided that we would not let that vanish.
Providing a fine balance of basic tasty foods and exquisite culinary delights where comfort and creativity collide, we proudly present El Granada with our latest venture- Flavor.
What is California Comfort Food? Simply put, it is an attempt to take some of the classic and not so classic comfort dishes and have our wonderful chefs add some sort of twist to them. We will always try to provide the freshest ingredients and attempt to use local and organic ingredients when possible.

Diner Reviews
  • "Food is great, as always, but bar choices limited to trendy, newer labels, without many of the old favorites. No rose' wines, no drinks with crushed ice, like daquiries, margaritas...the bar doesn't have a blender! I appreciate that the owners like and want to support craft beverages, but the customers' preferences should be acknowleged as well. Disappointing to have to go one place for a drink, then come here to eat. Also, the hours need to be expanded as soon as possible. They had a hard time at the old location, because the drab, brown building was so uninviting from the road that people driving by were not enticed to stop. The new location is great for those wanting to enjoy the coast and the views of the harbor and the ocean."

  • "The Menu doesn't describe the great quality of the food brought before us. The atmosphere was just what we were looking for, and the price -- amazing. The building was next to the Oceano Hotel and a fancy shopping center, and has been housing high-end restaurants -- not very popular. Flavor was very popular just across Hwy 1 in El Granada, but in its new much larger structure, it still remains a "Neighborhood Gem", with a lovely view of the Princeton Fishing Village environment, along with its foodie unique menu, including options for vegan and paleo, with generous portions, and reasonable prices. We El Granada and Princeton residents appreciate such a good restaurant and happy people in a building nearly vacant for all those years. "

  • "We had several different lunch and brunch items that pleased all. One not as ordered was promptly fixed and so kudos to staff and kitchen for no hassle. Good food and service, views and overall experience. Great craft beers and suggestions to pair. "

  • "We went to Flavor Saturday the 19th for the first time since they moved from the highway location a few months ago. The food is still very good, service was excellent and it was a full house. Noise level was higher than I remember but it is much larger and busier also. Good to see them doing well in the new location."

  • "Everyone in our party of 7 enjoyed their meal. I have tried both the fish tacos and the short ribs. Both were excellent. My only disappointment was the chocolate mousse. It was more like milk chocolate. I like a rich, dark chocolate flavor. Very good, friendly service, and we all liked the artwork."

  • "Flavor is one of our favorite restaurants on the Coast. This was our first visit to their new location which was AWESOME! The open layout with all the windows made the room so bright and inviting, the views are spectacular. Food is consistently great but the "All in Chowder", my personal favorite. Everyone in our group of 7 enjoyed their meals. My only complaint (which is why service was rated very good, not Outstanding) was that the waiter didn't take our cocktail orders when we sat down. We actually had to remind him to do so. Not a big deal, the booze hounds got through it. Great restaurant for large groups."

  • "A local restaurant that has been around awhile that we had never tried. Our loss, but we'll be making up for it. Great service, wonderful food, and plentiful. Bring your appetite for a most enjoyable meal."

  • "My husband and I were here on our honeymoon. We love beer and they had a wide selection of beer on tap. Their bread was homemade and AMAZING. It was also vegan, a plus for my vegan husband. We both ate from the vegetarian options and the food was great. Next time, we'll make sure to let the waiter know that we'd like our food cooked with less oil. Wish we got to try their desserts!"

  • "and they are even open late for drinks and bar food short ribs --fall off the bone tender halibut special with peach salsa and bok choy - flavorful beautiful décor!!!"

  • "Best restaurant! They recently moved and the design and lay out and color of walls and art and the darkish rug really all comest together in a great feel of comfort without being too dark at all. Great views, with the bottom of the windows shaded over so you don't look down on the cars! The downstairs bar is really great and the feel is perfect for gathering with friends. The stone work and painted table tops awesome as well. The food outstanding! The staff professional and very timely without being too over the top! Love this place. I keep going back and back since they moved to the new location! Highly recommend!"

  • "Mussels appetizer was excellent as was the Caesar salad. Then everything fell down. Waited forever for our entrees. Had the halibut on the daily special which was under seasoned. The fish was done perfectly but tasteless. The potatoes were okay, but the peashoots were too peppery. The 2nd entree was the all in chowder which also lack seasoning. There was no salt & pepper on the table to correct the seasoning & there was no wait staff to request salt & pepper. After the entrees were served, the wait staff were not available until the food was too cool to reseason to consume. Perhaps we ordered the wrong entrees"

  • "New location, wait staff, menu and craft cocktails are a great change. There is a little room for improvement on the current wine list. I"d love to see them offer more mid-range price ($40 - 45) wines. But LOVE everything else. So happy!"

  • "It's great to have Flavor make a go of their new restaurant site! Lunch was delicious. Good price point. Service was prompt and attentive. This was our first visit to Flavor's new location...we will defonitely return!"

  • "Our first visit to Flavor (missed out on the old location) surpassed our expectations, beginning with a superb selection of craft beers on tap and in bottles. Everything we ordered was well prepared and quite tasty, from the Mac & Cheese (with bacon and roasted jalapenos) and bacon-wrapped grilled prawns (with house-made BBQ sauce) appetizers, to the excellent entrees: short ribs (a house specialty), braised pork ragu, seafood pot pie (which looked like a seafood chowder for three topped with a loaf of bread-sized puff pastry), and grilled skirt steak. Everyone raved about how flavorful their dish was...and all four of us took leftovers home (and I never do that). We definitely have a new favorite dining spot in the Princeton harbor area!"

  • "I chose FLAVOR for dinner with my family ( and a friend who lives in Half Moon Bay) as a destination on my drive back up the coast from Santa Cruz to San Francisco. I was anxious to see the new location. I dined in the old location and was so pleasantly surprised by the new resturant. From walking through the door to our seating up the amazing staircase was comfortable and inviting. The food was yummy. We all had different items from salad to steak and everybody found something they liked. Unfortunately none of us had desert. Not that we didn't want to, but we were FULL."

  • "Would not recommend dinner at this restaurant yet. It needs work to get the kinks out of it's new location. Maybe ok for lunch. The food was good but expensive, the service not so good and the prices for wine and bar selections higher then warranted for what they offered. The seating was tight, unless we just had a bad location as it was not easy to get up from the table being jambed by the seating behind us."
    Dined on 3/27/2014
  • "For the area is was good. The food was decent. The bread and salad were very good and so were the children's menus. Service was up to task. My one complaint is that the seafood was mostly fried, unless it was in a chowder, I prefer grilled... To deep fried. And is was a little over priced."

  • "I used OpenTable to make a reservation for two at 8:00pm. I checked in at approximately 7:50, and they confirmed my reservation. After sitting for 20 minutes literally a few feet away in their direct sight, and watching 3 other couples - who arrived after me, escorted to a table, I asked about our wait. A hostess said, "Oh, I sat you and then unsat you...it'll be a few more minutes." What does that mean? - no reasonable explanations, no apologies, no service recovery. At a time, there were four - all relatively young girls, standing and chatting away, jovially greeting friends as they entered; and all the time ignoring us. Not to overreact, but what other things can a business ignore if their front-line staff behaves this way?"

  • "We enjoyed our meals. We were seated promptly and service was good. I had the Halibut special and companion had beer-battered fish. Quantity was generous, fish was delicious."

  • "Food was not very good. We have had excellent food at the other venue, so it may just be a breaking in period. Bar has awesome selection of beer and spirits. Not happy about $6.00 12oz beer prices. Prices arealso a bit high for alcohol and apps at the bar. Upstairs service was very good and prompt. We hope they will get into a groove and find their niche. Will give it another chance soon."

  • "My husband and I spent too much money for bland food!!! I was like nobody in the kitchen was tasting anything that went out. Everything we had was very under seasoned. My husband had the brisket burger with garlic fries and mac and cheese and I had the braised short ribs. Also our waiter was a snob that never once checked to see how we were doing and I although I finished a great glass of wine mid-meal he never asked if I would like another. Don't waste your money, not worth it at all."

  • "We were regular visitors to Flavor at its previous location but it looks like the new location may be a jinx. First, they removed most of the name brands from the bar, so we could not have the same satisfying martini we were looking for. They delivered the appetizer before the drinks, which we had to go search for after waiting 10 mins (but the calamari was excellent). Our daughter ordered a burger minus the bun but with tomatoes; the burger arrived with lettuce and no tomatoes. Our halibut tacos were okay but served over a tasteless cole slaw. The mexican rice was good but the beans were too soupy. My empty water glass was never refilled even though the server noted it and said he'd return. We'll give it one more try - weeks from now."

  • "The food was good. Everything was good. Except I took my finicky parents there and they couldn't accommodate their simple drik preferences: Earl Grey tea and Jack Daniels. These are not hard things to find. But they didn't have them. Instead they had a huge selection of off-label teas and liquors. So the whole outing was a bomb. Oh well."

  • "This was our first time dining at the new Flavor in Princeton Harbor, across the road from their old and smaller location in El Granada. Had been many times to the old one & were looking forward to this, although wondering how successful the move would be. The food was about the same, with more choice, with a bar menu downstairs; the noise level is up & the service somewhat patchy. The waiters were good but the food arrived at completely random times - soup after entrees, a lone appetizer/entrée that was served before anyone else, & before the wine arrived. Obviously, the management needs to streamline the ordering & cooking process a bit. Food was still good, but not outstanding - "comfort" food as advertised, not necessarily gourmet."

  • "Food was cold and orders should come out right the first time, not the third time. And after all that, it was bland. Chalking it up to it being a new location and expanded menu. Maybe I'll try it again in a couple of months."

  • "Great view with the new space and cool vibe with the artwork and high ceilings. Excellent service and fab food. Ben, one of the co- owners stopped by our table on our most recent visit, which was a nice touch."

  • "The restaurant fulfilled all of the requests I made on my reservation, 2nd Floor, window seats, with a view. The service was excellent the waiter was knowledgeable about the menu. The eggs Benedict (original) was superb and our friends had the Eggs Benedict Crab and they remarked how much crab meat was in the crab cakes."

  • "The fried fish was good however I made the mistake of ordering the chicken parmesan and it was terrible. Could not even eat 10% of it. the server obviously saw this but made no attempt to try to make it right. The clam chowder ..something that should be easy was chewy and not flavorful at all. the others at the table order the fried fish and that was very well done so beware. The server brought initially a bowl of chowder and I explain to them that I ordered a cup. They want back brought me a cup and ended up charging me for a bowl. All told doubt I will be back."

  • "We first dined at Flavor just over a year ago when we moved here from SC. The food and service then reminded us of back home and we fell in love with the small quaint place on the corner. Now they have moved into a much larger venue and we were concerned they would change...they did but for the good in everyday. We have fell in love with Flavor all over again!"

  • "Mid-week easy place to hang out with friends. Newly re-vamped space at the harbor is warm and lively, contemporary and hip. comfortable lounge chairs and dining chairs too. My party ordered pizza (thin crust, and flavorful), burger (rare--just the way she likes it and is normally hard to find) with garlic fries, and warm spinach salad (not too sweet, and huge mound of very fresh baby spinach). Someday we will order dessert, but never seem to manage it, since the meals are satisfying enough.. Welcome back, Flavor---better than ever!!"

  • "we enjoyed our meal at the bar downstairs. had a blast chatting with the new bar team about the craft spirits. can't wait to see the menu downstairs and wine list expand as they get their sea legs in the new location."

  • "I encourage you to try Flavor! We had no idea they had only just moved and re-opened last Wednesday. Great, friendly vibe. Server was wonderful. They ran out of napkins and apologized three times for paper ones. Potions were all large - many could easily be shared. Kitchen is working out kinks and a bit spotty. Caesar was heavy on mayo and light on acid - lemon. Mac and Cheese was a large tasty appetizer. Fish entrée was fresh and delicious, but veggies were a bit burned. Only two very limited dessert choices. A separate bar menu looks interesting. They did a great job remodeling the space. We will definitely return in a few months and see how they're doing! They have all the elements to be a big hit!!"

  • "This place lives up to it's name, casual but wonderful. There are Tater tots downstairs! There is a substantial wine and beer list (full bar too). The place was packed, in a good way, our table was ready on time. Bread with oil and balsamic came quickly, we shared a salad and it was plenty to split. We had the Veggie Burger (YUM), the fish special (it didn't come out as hot as she would have liked) and I had the three way Brisket burger, with mac & Cheese plus garlic fries. I'd come back for a basket of the garlic fries alone, the burger was excellent. We all left full. Service could use some fine tuning but they've just opened so I'm sure all that will be ironed out soon. All Staff members where very friendly."
