I would not recommend this restaurant... Server was not accommodating. Food was cold. Did not have pad Thai. Truly dissatisfied with the overall experience.

First visit since the change in Chefs. The food was amazing! we had a party of four of close friends who don't mind sharing. As a result, I got to taste almost everything on the prix fixe Restaurant Week menu. The food was all the better due to the attentive, though not overbearing service. The wine pairings were spot on and the overall taste combinations were great. Rare to find a "view" restaurant with this quality across the board. We will be making this a more regular member of the dinner out rotation.

My friends and I came here for lunch today, and the first thing that I have to say was the view was breathtaking! Our group had a mushroom omelette, the burger, the pulled pork burger, crispy grouper sandwich, and the huevos rancheros for our main course. We also had the duck fat fries as well as the coconut chicken soup. Everything tasted great and very fresh! It's definitely a great place to get lunch, especially with that panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean! Our waiter was extremely attentive and very friendly. With the exception of the coconut chicken soup, none of the dishes really stood out to me though.

  • Selection of food for lunch
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007

Selection of food for lunch was limited. We were surprised to learn that they had ONE panini and ONE ham & cheese sandwich to offer. The fish 'had not yet arrived' at 11:30 when we were there for lunch. Quite odd they would open for lunch and not be prepared, it seemed, to have some of their menu items on hand. From the limited number of guests at lunch time (on a Friday), perhaps during the San Diego Winter season it would be in their interest to not open for lunch. Otherwise: view is wonderful and servers were friendly and seemed happy to serve. * elevator not working at 1:30 p.m. so had to walk down 4 flights of stairs.

My husband and I both loved our meals at Flavor. We started off with the warm greens, which were simple with a hint of chili and a perfectly poached egg on top. We both ordered fish and were very happy with our choices. He got black cod and I got the tuna. Simple preparations with clean flavors. We finished the evening with butterscotch pudding which was lovely. Overall, a very good meal and great value at this price point (both fish entrees were $30).

Not as good as in the past. Those who ordered the duck said it was "chewy." Open Table's window for reservations was limited to very early or very late. Yet, there was no one in the restaurant at the early hour. Next time, we'll just call the restaurant directly to make a reservation. And, we won't order the duck.

Gorgeous views, beautiful dining room. My only complaint was limited options for those eating special diets. There were not a lot of substitution options, and not enough variety in the menu to satisfy someone with dietary restrictions. That said, the food they did have was excellent, well presented, and the waiter was fantastic.

The menu for Thanksgiving was excellent. The New York Strip looked so interesting I had to opt for that and let my wife order the turkey. I found the strip to be so amazing I had to ask where it was from. Grass fed from Stonecreek I think, but all I can say is it's worth going back for their beef. But everything was fabulous. Service was impeccable. The only fault in perfection was stemware not polished to perfection.

Have tried food from latest chef twice, at bar and for lunch. Not so impressed. Shrimp and tuna taco apps fried and heavy. Decent kale salad but a little small. Also, a place with so many nice cocktails should know how to make a good Bloody Mary, eek. And MUCH too expensive. Spent $120 at lunch for two! Not going back. (great view though)

The location of Flavor is its selling point: beautiful view of the ocean and quietly above the street noise of Del Mar. The atmosphere during our visit was eerily quiet; just no one there at 1pm on a beautiful Sunday!? Now to the food: we gave it a good because the burger, according to my husband, was delicious. My wild mushroom/cheddar omelet was undercooked & tasteless. I didn't want the pickled potatoes (?) as the side and while they were willing to give me toasted brioche instead, it came dry and since Flavor doesn't stock jam, no real favor. Both desserts were tasty but order your own: they are tiny. Our server was attentive and nice but she may be looking for another job if Flavor is always this quiet on the weekend.

Food was excellent. The dry-aged ribeye with crispy onion and arugula salad on top and the sauce were all delicious. Coconut chicken soup was also delicious. The server, Rory, however, abandoned us halfway through dinner--no one to fill water glasses, and he put our wine on another table then neglected to come back so we had to go get the wine and pour for ourselves. The steak was 12 ounces so we shared, and he promised to do the split in the kitchen, which didn't happen. When we asked for another plate to do it ourselves, we got a tiny little bread plate. Hopefully, they will get the service issues worked out. There were plenty of service people around. They just had no training or direction. The food is still worth a visit.

The great food just keeps getting better! Interesting Asian fusion to California Cuisine without being gimmicky. And the view of the ocean -- especially on a great-sunset night is unrivaled. The knowledgeable and attentive without being hovering waitstaff is highly polished. And for people with wine collections, the relatively inexpensive ($15/bottle) corkage fee is a real plus.A top-rate restaurant that's a bit of a splurge, but well worth it!

Great restaurant. Great food, excellent wine and beer choices. My wife and I both had the vegetable plate (she is a vegetarian), and we were both blown away by the flavors in the dish. By far the best vegetarian meal we have had since moving to Del Mar 5 years ago. It would be great if the restaurant added a second vegetarian option so we could go back more often. Highly recommended. (The 3 stars for ambiance is mainly due to the lighting, could be designed to be more intimate.)

The food was very good, the presentation was very good but the service was inattentative. The waiter was very polite and well informed but was never around. The restaurant was not at all busy and on several occasions we had to "flag down" a waitstaff person to either get more bread, more water, get our bill paid, etc. They were very busy enjoying their own conversation. In fact when our waiter never came back to pick up our bill after a good 15 minutes, we asked another waitress to take it and she seemed really put out that we asked her. It left us with a very unpleasant taste!

The food is delicious and tries to be unique and pretty much succeeds. The following criticisms are only included because of the cost of the meal. Dinner for two was over $100. For this amount of money, I expect higher service standards. That being said, everyone was very nice and friendly, but not very clear. Why we were given two different menus? Why weren't we told that Restaurant Week was extended at this location? Also, the server brought my companion his beer but forgot my wine. I usually let this slide and waited for him to walk by, see me wine-less and be reminded, but this didn't work. He walked by several times, but never noticed that I had no drink. I ended up having to ask the young woman who brought our food to bring my wine.

The food was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. The selections were quite varied and unique. We were there for restaurant week and chose the pear salad, crispy spicy shrimp, tuna, flat iron steak, butter scotch caramel and root beer float. The wheat/sourdough bread with seas salts and the palate stimulating opening course were a fun surprise. However, we stood outside for quite awhile waiting for a hostess. Two waiters caught my eye while walking past and did nothing. The 3rd finally spoke to us, yet it still took several minutes for a hostess to come. Our waiter disappeared for a very long time after pouring water considering it was a fixed menu. We waited over 5 minutes for a second round of bread to eat with our salads.

We ate here Saturday during restaurant week and the food was amazing! I had the Jidori chicken and it was the best chicken I've EVER had at a restaurant. My husband had the steak and loved it too. Everything on the menu looked good, it was hard to decide. The servers were very friendly and accommodating. Especially since we asked to move due to noise and the tables being SO close together. Many of their two-top tables are right on top of each other. They moved us to a better location no problem. Also our appetizers took a WHILE to come out but the server noticed this and brought me a free glass of wine which was a nice offer. They also made a big deal about our Anniversary and my borthday, which I mentioned on Opentable.
