Flat Iron Steak & Saloon is a new concept on King Street in Old Town, Alexandria. Serving affordable, juicy steaks and American fare, Flat Iron opens daily at 11 a.m ( 10.30 a.m. on Fridays - Sundays). Please enjoy our downstairs dining room or have a drink upstairs in the saloon.

  • "I was at a two-person table and couldn't hear the person I was with, it was so loud. They had a saloon upstairs where there was a live act performing, but it was more of the closed-in space that made it so loud. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything special. However, I have to say that the service was excellent. We got our appetizer two minutes after our drinks and dinner immediately after our appetizer and our bill immediately after we were finished eating. So, if you're in a rush and you want to grab a quick steak, I would recommend this restaurant to you."

  • "I think i went too early which is fine by me as we got a table up in the bar area. I was shocked at how much seafood they had for being called "Flat Iron Steak" but all of it was well made and very quick. The calamari were w tad over cooked and the sauce that came with it was bland. The Caeser dressing was a little over done but the steak on top of it was awesome. Really really good."

  • "I made the reservation using OpenTable just 20 minutes before we arrived, so I was impressed when we walked in that they had placed a "Reserved for... with my name" on our table. The service was great the whole evening. My prime rib came with a small container of horseradish, a ramekin of creamed spinach finished with toasted bread crumbs, and a mounded scoop of mashed potatoes. It would have been nice if they'd had the traditional whipped cream horseradish sauce that accompanies prime rib, but they didn't. I asked for a small container of sour cream and was able to mix it with the horseradish and make my own. The creamed spinach was very good, but could have used a hint of nutmeg. I would go back again."

  • "I wanted to like this place, but it fell short. The portion size was great, but there was nothing else special about it. The quality of meat was fair, but again, nothing special. For the price, it was disappointing. I probably would not return."

  • "I made a reservation for 2 at flat iron steak and saloon.The table was very wobbly and instead of offering to move us to a different table the hostess frantically searched for a "wobble wedge". We got a new table and it also has, you guessed it, a wobble! We didn't complain further though. The major thing that irked me was that they were missing TWO menu items that me and my date asked for. On to the entrees, we both ordered the flat iron steak because of missing menu item. The steak came as cooked and tasted pretty good, but the portion of the sides was very lacking. Overall, it was an ok experience, but for the price it was pretty lackluster. I won't be returning with the tons of other better options in old town."

  • "We selected this restaurant for our "Girls Night Out". The ambiance was good and the wait staff friendly and helpful. The food, however, was another story. We were very disappointed by the quality of our food. 3 of us ordered the prime rib, which was on the list of "chef's specialties", 2 of the prime rib had to be returned because they were not cooked as ordered and the cut of meat was gristly and fatty. The two prime ribs were returned and replaced with fresh cuts, the second cuts were just barely better than the first cuts. The other two of our party ordered the Flat Iron Steak, we were both disappointed. The mashed potatoes and spinach au gratin were not tasty. Not a wonderful dining experience, we will not return."

  • "Went to dinner w/7 family members the other night. Table was ready, no waiting at all...Service was quick/efficient. Great menu to choose from. Ordered apps - highlights include the spinach & crab dip and the bacon/cheese tater tots. I had the baked ckn wrapped in ham & cheese topped w/mini sweet potato fries...it was delicious! My wife had the skirt steak w/chimicurri sauce, family had roasted ckn & the salmon steak w/polenta cake - ALL COOKED PERFECTLY & VERY TASTY! Great aesthetics on all the food & flavor notes were right on point. For dessert we split the fried oreos AND the fried Reeses peanut butter cups w/vanilla ice cream & whipped cream...RIDICULOUSLY GOOD!!! Would come back to Flat Iron ANYTIME!"

  • "My wife and I went out for her birthday, and Flat Iron took very good care of us. The service was impeccable--they were timely, courteous, friendly and attentive through the entire evening. Our waitress overheard that it was my wife's birthday, and put a candle in our dessert without my asking. Great touch! Our steaks were delicious, as were the sides. The drink list was plentiful and overall our experience was outstanding. I would certainly come back!"

  • "The appetizer ahi tuna with thin slices of Chinese w/ Chinese cucumber. Would been served with an option of chop sticks. It was very hard trying to pick up a sushi type dish with fork and knife. The hostess was very kind and sweet. The server never described any new dishes. Before the severs came with our entree they should have cleared our appetizer plates first instead of making do it just so they can find a place to sit down the entrees. Severs and bussers were very polite. The floors nice but wood surface is not flat. It has ripples in it."

  • "We had our reservation for Saturday night. The restuarant was packed and you could see that all of the staff was very busy. Even with the hustle and bustle we were immediately greeted, sat, and the food came out very quickly. My plate was delicious and our friend who was in town loved her steak as well. To pick, my boyfriends meal did not come out as he ordered (he changed significantly from what was on the menu, as he always does) but the staff went over and beyond to correct. Some of the best restaurant service we have received so thank you!! Also, I enjoyed the restuarant layout the only item I have to say and the reason why I gave three stars was that it was very smoky. Other then that great time, food, and service. We will be back!!"

  • "I was very disappointed in Flat Iron. The service was abysmal; the food on the negative side of mediocre. I asked for dressing on the side for my chopped salad. It came dressed with a concoction that was nearly inedible. The broccoli au gratin was simply overcooked broccoli with a sprinkling of melted cheese on top. The special trout with crabmeat was served without any crabmeat. Our waitress was pleasant enough but was completely clueless about the menu and specials. Finally the tables are so packed in that it is very difficult for wait staff and diners to navigate the space. I practically had to climb over a fellow diner to find my way out the door. I will never return to Flat Iron."

  • "All the staff is great! Months ago we stopped in because Columbia Firehouse was booked, we had Mike as our server and he got us hooked! All the staff is amazing, they have a higher level of service with out having to go to a stuffy steakhouse. We also discovered happy hour... $5 apps and drink deals... amazing! And save room for desert. $7 fried candy bar deserts?! Just all around amazing. If you are hungry for steak, great appetizers, and fried desert... topped with genuine service! Really worth the value!"

  • "The dining experience was nice. Not fully impressed overall (see below). Host and Wait Staff were very nice. Downstairs dining room was average for a small Old Town location with a rustic feel. $10 Lobster Eggroll appetizer was nothing special and really not worth the cost! We should of tired one of previously pictured and/ or recommended soups instead. Our Entrees (Flat Iron Steak $23 and Crabcake $23) were tasty and nicely presented. The Deep Fried Milky Way Bars dessert $7 was just okay, due to the inside not being fully cooked. There was still some gooey waffle batter inside, eventhough the outside was brown."

  • "Was excited to try since they are still pretty new. Went on a Sunday night still had reservations. Pretty crowded. Energetic crowd. Ordered firecracker shrimp. Not that spicy but still pretty good. Had salad with shrimp since they had ran out of the scallop risotto. Was pretty disappointed. My dad had one of the specials, steak with blue cheese. It was a little too under cooked for him. I don't think the server heard him say "well" since it was pretty loud. Had the apple pie dessert. Pretty good. I would go back but earlier than 7pm and hope they have the risotto."

  • "Happily surprised by experience..used a amazon coupon and open table reservation. Good job I did because it was pretty busy on a Thursday night. Filet was good and they were fine with allowing substitutions. Little skimpy with the sauce and the asparagus portions (?suppposed to be grilled..not so sure). Bar upstairs was hopping also with only a few tables towards the front available. Hope this place is finally going to make it"

  • "The food was very good and well priced. Steaks have a nice char flavor. The wedge salad is delighfully crisp, as you'd hope. The only complaint we had is how fast the food came out. We were finished (2 courses) in 45 minutes. We would have preferred a more leisurely pace. We are greatly looking forward to trying happy hour in the saloon!"

  • "We had a voucher from a daily-deal site. Our steaks were cooked to our requested temp & had great flavor but I expect nothing less from a steak rest'. The entree presentation wasn't very nice. Our plates were served with an identical scoop of potatoes, a ramekin of spinach au gratin & our selected cut of meat. With the foodie craze you'd think they would present it in a more appetizing and elegant fashion. For dessert we ordered two deep fried Milky Way bars. The dessert was good; however, we got one Milky Way & one Snickers. The slight discrepancy in the dessert was no big deal; however, the point is it was not what we ordered. Long story short ... it was good but not great. We wouldn't bother eating there again without a discount voucher."

  • "We had a fabulous dinner at Flat Iron this weekend. The food was spectacular and the service was great. The decor and ambiance in the restaurant is a little bland, but the menu is outstanding. My husband had the prime rib and I had the lamb chops. The food service was fast, but you could tell our entrees were hot off the grill. We will definitely be back! (Also, their weekday happy hour specials are fantastic.)"

  • "The bar upstairs has a great happy hour with $5 appetizers, including filet mignon sliders, that runs to 8pm. The waitress also told us about their many nightly specials. Downstairs was quiet if that's what you're looking for. Upstairs was more lively with the bar and multiple TVs."

  • "I really enjoyed the restaurant and the food. The services good and the server we had was nice. My food was really good; they didn't cook my steak well-done as requested but it was still good and I was still able to eat it. I asked for no "Pink" and it was still a nice amount of pink but it wasn't chewy like some "medium-well" steaks can be. But other than that things were good; I especially loved the fried Oreo's. Both my girlfriend and I will be back again."

  • "There was a large group of that met for steaks and drinks on a Saturday night. This place had a very nice saloon upstairs that specialized in a variety of whiskey drinks which is a subversion from wine everywhere (although they do wine, it's not the focal point). My ribeye was perfectly cooked and the sides were incredible. My only regret was ordering the fried Reese's peanut butter cups. I asked the server and he said they were the most popular but he preferred the fried Oreos. I wish I would have tried the Oreos b/c the peanut butter cups end up being a little dry after they've been fried. I will absolutely be going back here, it's nice a variant from the typical restaurants in the Old Town area."

  • "We liked our steaks, but the spinach and potatoes that come with we're a little uneven. More side variety would be nice. The signature tots appetizer was disappointing, but the other apps going out looked good. You can tell the place is still new -- food runners never knew what table food was headed to,etc. that said, we will probably go back after more of the kinks have time to be worked out."
