A word from Flaherty's Seafood Grill & Oyster Bar
At Flaherty's...Fish is Everything!

We know good seafood, we know how to buy it and we know how to prepare it. Unlike most restaurants (even the best of them) where fish is often a secondary item on the menu...at Flaherty's it's all about seafood.

Here, you will experience a small town, comfortable, family atmosphere, where quality ingredients and quality preparation come together with quality service. We also include gluten free items in our menu to provide all of our customers with the best service possible. It's who we are...come and experience seafood like it was meant to be.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Stopped in on a Friday night for dinner (recommended by our hotel) and we weren't disappointed. The staff offered helpful suggestions - oysters on the half shell were delicious and the cashew crusted halibut was perfect. What a perfect meal!"

  • "We went to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary and we didn't realize that this restaurant was divided in 2. One is the Oyster Bar and the other the Grill. Since we made our dinner reservations before 6pm, we were seated at the bar and the noise level was not ideal for a romantic and quiet dinner. The food was great, but I would not say that their clam chowder was one of the best I've had. It had more potatoes than clams. I will say my lobster melt was delicious and my husband's salmon was wonderful as well. Our waitress was very friendly and explained the food options very well since their menu is extra loaded with options and it got overwhelming. Overall it was a great dinner, but next time I will eat at their Grill for a quiet feel."

  • "Took the waitress a long time to get our orders, and she never checked on us to see if we ended anything or liked our food. She handed the check without asking if we wanted anything else. They need some good waitresses to go with their good food."

  • "This is a great spot for seafood if that's what you're craving in Carmel. The menu offers a variety of options and the service is very good. We had the crab cakes & chowder for an appetizer and had Seafood Paella for an entree. All were very good. We also shared the key lime pie for dessert and it was well presented even with a raspberry sauce to drizzle on top. This gem is tucked away on a side street just off the busy area of Ocean Avenue. We met a few locals inside so if they're eating there that's a good sign! Overall, it was a nice experience and I would recommend it."

  • "Clam chowder should have been called salt chowder. Sandabs were cooked in oil that was not heated first. Can't evan remember the rest of the meal."

  • "Good fresh seafood, but just to many people packed into a small restaurant. The noise level gets so loud that its hard to carry on even a little conversation with the person next to you or across the table. The restaurant has a long row of tables down the middle and when a large group takes up that space it becomes impossible to hear anything. The bar dining room next door has the same noise level problem. The food is worth the trip, but if you are looking for a nice relaxing or romantic dinner I dont think this is your place. Reservations on the weekend are a must."

  • "Crab, fish, and shrimp were all fishy or gray only saved by the truckload of mayo-based sauce slathered on everything. If you go to Carmel, just walk around and follow your nose into any of the dozens of other Italian, French, or Californian dining options in the area."

  • "Situated not too far from Ocean Ave, the main downtown street of quaint Carmel, is where you'll find Flaherty's seafood. It's split into with one for the oyster bar and the other the main restaurant. They do offer a few outdoor seats to enjoy the food or have your dog hang out with you while you dine. The food was nothing too impressive. They do have a good seafood selection, hence their name. But the wait was long, even though we had reservations. The service was nice but took a long time to get our food. There seemed to be a mix up with the hostess and servers seating people. Also a mix up with the tables when bringing out the food/drinks. I know it's busy but some of these things should be better organized."

  • "Great dining experience - with the kiddos. Sat at the more casual side of the restaurant. Oysters were off the hook, amazingly fresh and delicious! My kids were occupied with activities provided by the restaurant. Very kid friendly and adult/ foodie friendly as well. Had the seafood risotto on server's reco - it was fantastic. Mostly seafood w a bit of risotto in a delectable lobster sauce. Huge chunks of lobster. Yum. Hubby had the halibut - also delish. Mom ordered the catfish- healthy and all, but was't terribly impressed with the flavor. Kinda bland. Was definitely fresh though. My mom enjoyed it. I was also impressed with all the outdoor seating, and lots of adorable, well-behaved dogs, happy to be with their owners. Got to love that!"

  • "This place is a very Carmel, great food, owner is walking around ensuring that everything is take care of. Great wine list. Great feel. A little cramped, but fun. The parking is the bummer we had to park 4 blocks away"

  • "Flaherty's is a nice, relaxed restaurant with an extensive seafood menu. The fish dishes were well-prepared. The wine list is short but good. I enjoyed a Bloody Mary from the bar. Flaherty's is a good choice when you want a nice meal without a stuffy atmosphere."

  • "We were promptly seated. took a bit of a wait to get water and bread and butter; then longer for server to take our order. The Rosemary breadsticks were tasty. Our food order took a while to get to us. The scallops were delicious. The Alaskan halibut encrusted with crabcake, was so-so. The crabcake was ok; the mushrooms, carrots, and potatoes in the sauce were very tasty. The halibut was very bland, mostly not eaten. Our server wanted very much that we enjoy our meal. Since the halibut was not superb, she didn't charge us for the halibut,; and gave us a free Olalliebery pie with ice cream. Very good! The server also provided us with a card for a future meal on her. Thank you Sandra! We will come back again."

  • "Love calamari and was disappointed that it was so thick. If I was having a calamari steak that would be the thickness, not fried calamari."

  • "my husband likes seafood in cream sauce, and he loves Flaherty's. I usually find my food very mediocre - can't live up to mouth watering descriptions, often overcooked or not hot. needs stronger quality control and realistic menu given what they can deliver. crowd too many tables into small space and unpleasantly noisy."

  • "Had lunch outside in late December. Shared clam chowder and clam and lobster tacos. Chowder was very good. Clam and lobster tacos were nothing special. It has been some time since I ate here and will likely skip it in favor of other places next time."

  • "Our dinner was rushed the food was barely cooked and one course was completely forgotten. We felt that the wait staff was trying to rush us out. Wont eat here again."

  • "Looking at previous reviews, I was expecting much. I wanted somewhere to take my friends before seeing a place in Carmel. The lobster bisque was quite good, but the clam chowder, something they are proud of, was horrid. The meals were quite small and nothing to rave about. We sat in the more relaxed section, which is where we may have made our mistake. It looks like they have a quieter section. Either way, I was really unhappy with the food."

  • "The best way to describe Flaherty's is "ehhh." The food was good, not great, or even really good. I consider myself someone who knows & enjoys really good food but they do not fit that category. The menu is extensive and it all sounds very good, but…maybe other items on the menu are cooked really well. First, I had the clam chowder…it was good but not THE BEST clam chowder I've ever had. We also had the seared ahi and avocado. The tuna was very nice and the avocado super fresh. Yum! For my entree, I had the sand dabs. It felt very cheap British pub-esque. Not what I was imagining from the description in the menu. Don't get me wrong, we did not have a bad meal. It just was very average and does not make my top 10 restaurants in Carmel."

  • "Classic seafood house with many choices and few surprises. As good as the seafood is my husband is enamored with the Reuben they serve as a lunch special often. The house cured pastrami is amazing. The pan fried oysters we wonderful as were all the specials we had in our group of 5 for lunch. Many choices good for a group. Tight quarters though when they are busy."

  • "We made a reservation and when we arrived, the restaurant was far from full but we were given two table options--one near the kitchen and the other near the door. The food was disappointing--crab louie had canned crab and the bread was dry. I would not go there again."

  • "This restaurant was recommended to me by a local. I brought 9 people there on a Friday night. The restaurant was not crowded, so the number of our group should have been easily managed. We did not get menus or drinks for 15 minutes after being seated. The food arrived an hour and 15 minutes after we sat down & service for the table took another 20 mins. Unforgivable! Most of the dishes were forgettable, but a few were memorable for their very poor preparation (overcooked swordfish, dry, unappetizing gnocchi). The dessert bread pudding was fabulous, however! Since I don't get to the coast that often, I wanted some superbly cooked fresh catch. I was extremely disappointed. I will never recommend this restaurant or dine there again. So sorry."

  • "Carmel has so many good restaurants. Flaherty's has been a staple of Carmel for as long as I can remember, but a long time since I've been there. That's a shame on me. The food was superb, a paella that will serve as lunch the next day and a cod in wine sauce that both of us shared. Meals are priced right for the quality but not wallet-busting. We both recommend it as a special place out."

  • "Flaherty's is a great spot to eat but one needs to know that there are 2 sides to the restaurant with an alley way of tables outside, in between. One side is more formal with white tablecloths, while the other side has a more relaxed atmosphere. We'd made reservations for 5:45 (had an early play to attend) not realizing the formal side didn't open until 6 PM but they were most accomodating and the food was great. We will go back."

  • "We had dinner here with a couple of friends before the Graham Nash concert at the Sunset Center. The service was great. The food was very good. Our table and seating was cramped. The noise level was very high. it was Saturday night. Overall it was a good experience. We had the lobster melt, the seafood Cobb salad, the grilled salmon and the lobster tacos. No complaints. Also I had a very nice gin martini straight up with two olives. I would like to try lunch here."

  • "We booked for dinner whilst staying in Carmel for a couple of nights. I follow a wheat-free vegetarian diet and was extremely well catered for. If you are coeliac, they will prep your food separately. Fried oysters were amazing and the GF chocolate torte was to die for!"

  • "My wife and I found this restaurant some years ago. The food is great. The service wonderful and the seafood is always fresh. It is our "go to" dinner venue in Carmel. They even were most accommodating to my wife who is on a strict no fat. No oil diet. Flaherty's keeps delivering a wonderful dinning experience."

  • "My husband and I had a truly delicious dinner here. We were looking for outstanding seafood and we were NOT disappointed! The calamari steak appetizer was delicious- served piping hot and with an excellent texture- a great start! This was accompanied by a very yummy bread bowl- and our charming waitress graciously offered to refill it- we declined, as we needed to save room for dinner. I had the 1/2 portion of wild salmon- it came with a maple glaze- Our waitress had this put on the side and I am so glad she did! The salmon was flavorful and moist all on its own- I sampled the glaze and it was quite good- but the salmon alone was perfect. My husband had Striped Sea Bass- in a port reduction- he said it was simply the best."

  • "We enjoyed our meal. The lobster bisque was outstanding as was the crab encrusted halibut. The grilled artichoke was over cooked and actually burned rather than charred. The salads were good. The paella was OK but we have had better. The salmon was excellent. We would go back for the bisque and the halibut and the salmon, but skip the artichoke and the paella."
