A word from Flaherty's Seafood Grill & Oyster Bar
At Flaherty's...Fish is Everything!

We know good seafood, we know how to buy it and we know how to prepare it. Unlike most restaurants (even the best of them) where fish is often a secondary item on the menu...at Flaherty's it's all about seafood.

Here, you will experience a small town, comfortable, family atmosphere, where quality ingredients and quality preparation come together with quality service. We also include gluten free items in our menu to provide all of our customers with the best service possible. It's who we are...come and experience seafood like it was meant to be.Continued

  • "Oyster stew was not what I was expecting. I hadn't had it in a long time so I was a little disappointed when it was so different. My wife had the cobb salad which she said was outstanding."

  • "Carmel was packed - not surprising for a summer Saturday. We looked to Open Table to help us find a lunch spot - party of 8. We booked at Flaherty's for a table to be ready in 15. Apparently, they don't get regular updates (maître'd hadn't checked for several hours)...but he still worked to accommodate us in 2 tables of 4, which was fine. Everyone was in the mood for either beer or Bloody Mary's. The beer selection was terrific. The Mary's were delightfully spicy & each was decked with a jumbo prawn. The consensus was that they'd gone too light on the booze, however. Oyster selection was great, but the Kumos were SO small (would've fit in a 1/4 tsp), we felt pretty gipped. The larger ones were awesome, flavorful, and well-accompanied. Yum!"

  • "The lobster bisque was the best we have ever had! The wedge salad met expectations and the scallop risotto-lovely. All in all, a great meal! We retuned the next night to pick up dessert to go...sadly the pecan pie did not meet our expectations. The filling below the pecans was the consistency of cranberry jelly-not loose, but firm. It was ultra weird. The key like pie was ok...so, I am glad our first visit included only the entrees. We know they are stellar for our next visit and will shop around for dessert. Dinner-two thumbs up!!"

  • "We arrived to find that the person at our assigned table had not left yet and there was no room. But the way the receptionish handled it was very professional. She walked us into the bar area (the restaurant has two areas, bar area and restaurant - eat at later, former is REALLY noisy AND packed!) and bought us our first round. This was very classy. The service in the restaurant was just good - plates delivered by the busboy (or assistant waiter, you pick) was always to the wrong table and then came to ours. Service was also slow (the place was completely packed). And the final bill had the "free" drinks on it (then removed). That said, food was exceptional - super fresh and huge portions. Put up with the service issues, food is great!!"

  • "We like this restaurant but the waitress had a table of six, plus 5-6 more tables of two. She was rushing everyone to order, I believe, to get us out and the next wave in. My order of sea bass was wrong so my husband ate his dinner and mine arrived after he was done. She offered wine or dessert but not necessary as I was not looking for anything free. It sort of ruined the dinner. The food is great, however."

  • "Been going to Flaherty's for decades. Easily the best crab chowder and lobster bisques anywhere. Fantastic balance of flavors, textures, and ultra fresh and tender seafood. The crab cocktail and artichoke were tasty as always. The reason for holding back a star is because they changed the recipe on the berry pie. Used to be something I raved about, and now something barely better than a hostess pie. The new recipe has a thick, tough crust and the pie no longer has a mound of berries but, scant portions. Other than that, I still highly recommend the other items on the menu."

  • "If you're looking for delicious, fresh seafood in a fun, relaxed atmosphere, check out Flaherty's. There were a number of fresh, local options on the daily specials menu. I had the crab encrusted halibut cooked in a clam broth, which was warm and homey. My dad had the cioppiono which was a HUGE bowl filled with tons of fresh seafood. Our waitress was friendly and very accommodating. She knew the menu inside and out and had no problems accommodating my gluten free needs - she even brought out delicious gluten free focaccia bread for me! I will definitely come back next time I'm in Carmel!"

  • "I choose to make reservations at Flaherty's because it received very good reviews from yelp and another reviewer. It was moderately priced and not too expensive. I liked that they were concerned about sustainable seafood and had many selections on their menu. My husband had a pesto salmon dish and I had a grilled salmon dish. We also had 1/2 dozen blue point oysters. Everything was fresh and very good."

  • "Service was only fair. Server seemed under the influence of something. Slow responses. No vegetarian options but one. Not everyone likes seafood. Won't be back."

  • "The service was very slow but the food was terrible. The seafood was overcooked and had zero flavor. They did take care of the situation which was nice. "

  • "We had a large party of 8 that included 2 kids. Everyone was happy with their food. The wine list and the seafood was excellent. The kids menu was also very good, especially for those kids who don't like seafood. The adult menu also had several non-seafood dishes. We had the Calamari for an appetizer. Another person in our party ordered the Clam Chowder. I ordered the Paella. Service was also very good. I know that a large party is not easy to wait on, but our waitress did an excellent job."

  • "My husband's paella was outstanding. My haibut had a wonderful sauce, but it was a little heavy for the fish. Their key lime pie, however, was unbelievably mouth-watering. We have eaten key lime pie all over the U.S. and this was the best we've ever tasted! Everything about it: the flavor, the consistency, and the crust were out of this world!"

  • "Very good food in Carmel. Has the cashew crusted halibut and it was amazing. The mussels for the appetizer weren't too great, but my bloody mart helped out. I would recommend to try this place out and you won't be disappointed."

  • "My husband, daughter and I celebrated my daughters birthday with an early mid-week dinner. Our server, Carlos, was knowledgable, attentive and friendly. I didn't get the busboy's name but he gave excellent service as well. Our drinks were very good and the food was fabulous. Have to remember to leave room for dessert next time....and we will go back!"

  • "Stopped in on a Friday night for dinner (recommended by our hotel) and we weren't disappointed. The staff offered helpful suggestions - oysters on the half shell were delicious and the cashew crusted halibut was perfect. What a perfect meal!"

  • "We went to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary and we didn't realize that this restaurant was divided in 2. One is the Oyster Bar and the other the Grill. Since we made our dinner reservations before 6pm, we were seated at the bar and the noise level was not ideal for a romantic and quiet dinner. The food was great, but I would not say that their clam chowder was one of the best I've had. It had more potatoes than clams. I will say my lobster melt was delicious and my husband's salmon was wonderful as well. Our waitress was very friendly and explained the food options very well since their menu is extra loaded with options and it got overwhelming. Overall it was a great dinner, but next time I will eat at their Grill for a quiet feel."

  • "Took the waitress a long time to get our orders, and she never checked on us to see if we ended anything or liked our food. She handed the check without asking if we wanted anything else. They need some good waitresses to go with their good food."

  • "This is a great spot for seafood if that's what you're craving in Carmel. The menu offers a variety of options and the service is very good. We had the crab cakes & chowder for an appetizer and had Seafood Paella for an entree. All were very good. We also shared the key lime pie for dessert and it was well presented even with a raspberry sauce to drizzle on top. This gem is tucked away on a side street just off the busy area of Ocean Avenue. We met a few locals inside so if they're eating there that's a good sign! Overall, it was a nice experience and I would recommend it."

  • "Clam chowder should have been called salt chowder. Sandabs were cooked in oil that was not heated first. Can't evan remember the rest of the meal."

  • "Crab, fish, and shrimp were all fishy or gray only saved by the truckload of mayo-based sauce slathered on everything. If you go to Carmel, just walk around and follow your nose into any of the dozens of other Italian, French, or Californian dining options in the area."

  • "Situated not too far from Ocean Ave, the main downtown street of quaint Carmel, is where you'll find Flaherty's seafood. It's split into with one for the oyster bar and the other the main restaurant. They do offer a few outdoor seats to enjoy the food or have your dog hang out with you while you dine. The food was nothing too impressive. They do have a good seafood selection, hence their name. But the wait was long, even though we had reservations. The service was nice but took a long time to get our food. There seemed to be a mix up with the hostess and servers seating people. Also a mix up with the tables when bringing out the food/drinks. I know it's busy but some of these things should be better organized."

  • "Good fresh seafood, but just to many people packed into a small restaurant. The noise level gets so loud that its hard to carry on even a little conversation with the person next to you or across the table. The restaurant has a long row of tables down the middle and when a large group takes up that space it becomes impossible to hear anything. The bar dining room next door has the same noise level problem. The food is worth the trip, but if you are looking for a nice relaxing or romantic dinner I dont think this is your place. Reservations on the weekend are a must."

  • "Great dining experience - with the kiddos. Sat at the more casual side of the restaurant. Oysters were off the hook, amazingly fresh and delicious! My kids were occupied with activities provided by the restaurant. Very kid friendly and adult/ foodie friendly as well. Had the seafood risotto on server's reco - it was fantastic. Mostly seafood w a bit of risotto in a delectable lobster sauce. Huge chunks of lobster. Yum. Hubby had the halibut - also delish. Mom ordered the catfish- healthy and all, but was't terribly impressed with the flavor. Kinda bland. Was definitely fresh though. My mom enjoyed it. I was also impressed with all the outdoor seating, and lots of adorable, well-behaved dogs, happy to be with their owners. Got to love that!"

  • "Flaherty's is a nice, relaxed restaurant with an extensive seafood menu. The fish dishes were well-prepared. The wine list is short but good. I enjoyed a Bloody Mary from the bar. Flaherty's is a good choice when you want a nice meal without a stuffy atmosphere."

  • "We were promptly seated. took a bit of a wait to get water and bread and butter; then longer for server to take our order. The Rosemary breadsticks were tasty. Our food order took a while to get to us. The scallops were delicious. The Alaskan halibut encrusted with crabcake, was so-so. The crabcake was ok; the mushrooms, carrots, and potatoes in the sauce were very tasty. The halibut was very bland, mostly not eaten. Our server wanted very much that we enjoy our meal. Since the halibut was not superb, she didn't charge us for the halibut,; and gave us a free Olalliebery pie with ice cream. Very good! The server also provided us with a card for a future meal on her. Thank you Sandra! We will come back again."

  • "my husband likes seafood in cream sauce, and he loves Flaherty's. I usually find my food very mediocre - can't live up to mouth watering descriptions, often overcooked or not hot. needs stronger quality control and realistic menu given what they can deliver. crowd too many tables into small space and unpleasantly noisy."
