Diner Reviews
  • "Service was exceptional. Get the soufflé, its worth the wait."

  • "The hostess greeting us was very friendly and inviting as we entered the dining room. The service was the impeccable as always. The view of Coal Harbour, Stanley Park and North Shore is breath taking especially on a sunny summer evening. The food is its usual high standards. We had the Miso Soy Sablefish and the Catch made up of Atlantic Lobster, Scallops and Halibut which was done is a coconut broth. Both dishes were delightful with the sauces that complimented each dish very well. The amuse-bouche of tuna and tomato soup was a wonderful start the meal. Their souffle was fabulous as always. Nice touch with the small chocolate square to celebrate our anniversary."

  • "Even though I live in Coal Harbour, I was completely unaware of Five Sails. Being in the Pan Pacific, it has no walk-by presence. The way I found it was by Googling 'Best Vancouver Restaurants' and it was rated quite highly, I think #1. When I asked a few long time Vancouver residents about it, their response was, 'I was there a few years ago. It was fine'. So I had a bit of trepidation when I booked it for my girlfriends birthday dinner. Guys, what an awesome surprise. The view is absolutely spectacular. It was a great, clear evening and we had a perfect table overlooking the harbour. Service was great. The restaurant was about 1/3 full, and really quiet. And the food was SPECTACULAR. Really, really, good. No superb."

  • "The Five Sails Restaurant was fabulous for our business meeting. They were kind enough to arrange a somewhat private area for our dinner/discussion. Meal was superb."

  • "Wonderful restaurant with great food and service and ambience. The view was great. It was fun watching the sea planes take off and land. The clientele was nicely dressed which makes it more elegant."

  • "Salmon was prepared sous vide method and overcooked, and the albumin was very visible. The finishing was sauce rather than broiled or seared. We have loved this restaurant in the past, but unfortunately will not return."

  • "Aside from the long wait after being seated, the remaining evening proved to be a remarkable culinary experience. The view simply grandiose and food Outstanding! Our special occasion dinner was elegant and fitting. The dessert soufflé worth the 25 minute wait."

  • "I celebrated my birthday with my dad at Five Sails. On the reservation form, I mentioned that I wanted a window-side table because of this occasion. I got a call a day before the dinner to remind me of my reservation. Then when I got there, I was greeted and a small piece of cake was prepared for me at the end of the dinner. It was a surprise! Overall, the service there was perfect. The food there was excellent. I would highly recommend it to my friends, colleagues, and family members. Oh, and I got a window-side table. Very nice view!"

  • "Very good food and wine with very attentive service - perhaps too attentive when it comes to poring wine... However, the waitress overheard that one of our group had their birthday on that day and arranged for a little cake with a birthday candle. The music was really boring and made you feel rather sleepy, but the views made up for everything with the sunset in the West. Very enjoyable and perfect for a business dinner as well as a romantic evening."

  • "I enjoyed an absolutely superb meal at this outstanding restaurant. Stuck with seafood and was not disappointed,as I enjoyed Lobster Bisque,Lobster,Scallop and catch of the day and finished with a sublime Grand Marnier soufflé ! The service was faultless with obviously, highly professional serving and maitre de staff! I have paid far more money for far less than I experienced this evening! Just go!"

  • "Recently five local gals celebrated our friend's 60th birthday at the Five Sails Restaurant at the Pan Pacific Hotel. What a terrific choice we made! We enjoyed an elegant atmosphere, outstanding view of our beautiful city and delicious food. The well-tuned staff made all of us feel very special. We could not have found a better environment, or tastier cuisine for this special occasion. We can't wait to go back!"

  • "The server ridiculed me when I ordered Jasmine Tea after the dinner. He said the restaurant only serves "normal tea." Well, pray tell, what is "normal tea" to his standards? Jasmine tea is one of the most common teas I know of. This restaurant also has a ridiculous policy: on a busy night, guests are not seated until everyone in the party has arrived. I wonder why guests are being punished for being prompt. A business runs on consideration for the customers, not only ludicrous policies. There were times when my friends, not being local Vancourites, had trouble finding their way and were late for 30 minutes. I cannot imagine sitting outside in the waiting area for 30 minutes. Hawksworth and even Le Crocodile win 5 Sails hands down."

  • "The waiter was so rude. MY SON and my wife answered well-done for the meat. then his face changed like look down us. he has to ask 'how about midium well done?' he is bad ."

  • "What a magnificent setting! And while a restaurant such as this might be tempted to get lazy with the food, at Five Sails the cuisine shines just as much as the view."

  • "We booked a table for our wedding anniversary. It was marvelous from beginning to end. The food, service and experience were perfect. It is by far our favourite dining experience in Vancouver."

  • "We had a very nice dinner with some people from out-of-town. The view was spectacular, but our waiter could have been a little less supercilious."

  • "Every time I come to this restaurant we are treated so well, food amazing and view incredible. It was our 41 st anniversary and they certainly made our evening special. Prices are quite high but this is a romantic, special occasion restaurant and well worth it. I travel from Florida and this is my favorite restaurant in the lower mainland. Parking is pricy but worth it, especially if it's raining as it's all underground with elevator to the lobby. Don't miss this restaurant if you want a special evening with incredible views."

  • "For a big occasion. Incredible view, superb food, excellent service. Fusion cuisine (French/Asian), very creative Chef. The lobster bisque was divine with LOTS of lobster chunks and the souffle au Grand Marnier was heaven on earth, too small though..."

  • "This was a wonderful restaurant in a wonderful hotel. I had visited only once before, loved it & decided to try again on my visit to Vancouver. My sister & I were not disappointed, we were positively amazed for the 2nd time! The food, the ambience, the view, the service was the "icing on the cake", for our 3 day stay. Thank you to all that made this so very memorable."

  • "We visited Vancouver and got to several of the "top" restaurants. Five Sails was our favorite, all the way around. The ambiance, food and service were all remarkable. Multiple wait-staff were attentive but not intrusive and food recommendations were spot-on. Even though it is in a hotel, it is an outstanding place."

  • "The entire dinner experience was amazing. From the staff to the food, I had no complaints. When one of my dinner companions did not like her cocktail, the staff insisted on trying until they had it just right. I will definitely go again next time I'm in town and highly recommend it to anyone."

  • "Yelp rates this place highly, which is why I went there today. I normally dismiss restaurants in hotels as a matter of course. Today (4/25/2014) they released their new spring menu. It's great. Everything on the menu was fantastic. Attention to detail from the wait staff was impeccable. Definitely coming here again. "
