Diner Reviews
  • "Waiter was unfamiliar with the evening specials. One would think a restaurant of this caliber would have a meeting at the beginning of the evening with staff to go over these items. We ordered parmesean oysters and receive oysters on the half shell. They were excellent however. A request for halibut sautéd in butter and garlic with rice pilaf resulted in the entire dish swimming in the butter. Cioppino resembled spaghetti sauce. with the seafood overcooked. Manager came to table to inquire as to the evening and when we explained the evening's events, she never returned. The restaurant is "high end" and has many flaws."

  • "A Sunday special occasion dinner was well executed through fantastic drinks, great food and great service. I highly recommend the five palms martini!!! This drink is a "must have" in my opinion. My beef tenderloin was perfectly cooked."

  • "Made reservations online for Monday, June 16 - my wife's 70th birthday. When we arrived, there were no cars, locked doors, and a sign on the door that said "Closed Mondays for the Summer." A great experience."

  • "The decor is beautiful! My husband and I had the three course special with center cut beef tenderloin and it was was melt in your mouth good. We also had special requests due to low carb diets and our requests were filled without a problem. "

  • "Steak had a lot of gristle and lobster not that fresh. Waiters were friendly and attentive."

  • "We arrived on time and were promptly seated, unfortunately we were not attended to for more than 20 minutes; no menus etc. We were about to get up and leave when a bussboy finally brought us some water and menus and apoligized for the inconvenience. All the while we were waiting for a waiter the main hostess and obnoxious "noisy" violinist did make eye contact with us... Humm. The only good comment about our experience was our waiter who was great and tried to make up for the poor introduction to our seating and being ignored for so long; his service was commendable. We won't be returning to this establishment!"

  • "Reviews are correct , what a disappointment , out of Roast Beef and Pate on Friday night at 7:00 pm Music awful and loud Service inconsistent Food average at best Would recommend stay away"

  • "Very nice decoration inside but some deficits include the rush through the meal. We received our salad before the waiter even brought out the wine to open and my husband was still chewing his last bite of food when they whisked his plate away. The noise was high and added to by the violin player right next to our table in the small room we were seated in. "

  • "Steak was poor grade, Service was not trained properly for what they are trying to be. Music was too loud to talk with guests, and price was higher than Flemings or Sullivans both of which are FAR superior - save your money and go to one of them."

  • "While the ambience was superior, the service was poor. Our server forgot a number of items we had requested; steak sauce, asparagus, water. The steak (a double NY) was tough. I can't believe it was a "prime" piece. George, who oversaw the room, was quite helpful and was always checking our welfare. Conversely, our server rarely came by. We left disappointed. We will go back, but with some trepidation. This was an anniversary. I had ordered flowers - which were delivered on time by the florist. I had to ask the hostess to bring them out. This created an awkward moment for my wife."

  • "My wife and I took a client out for dinner at Five Palms, after I made reservations a few people I know commented that the food quality was poor for the price but I thought I would give it a shot. The staff was very friendly and professional and the view was great, if they would have put as much detail into the food they would have a winner. Unfortunately I will be driving past Five Palms to a major competitor that is down the road. I ALWAYS try and support local businesses but they have to do their part. "

  • "Experience lacked a lot of what Fine Dining calls for. Waiter was very nice but lacked knowledge of the menu. We ordered Ceasar Salad for 2 to be made table side, it was not, it came from the kitchen on plates, very disappointing salad. Had to listen to a very upset employee yelling at the guy making Pizza (didnt need that).. The Restaurant lacks I guess ambiance or atmosphere..Violinist, nice touch but too loud."

  • "We visit Tucson every year from late April to mid May. This is our first visit to Five Palms. We were pleased with the experience and will return."

  • "Marginal steak. But probably ok for Tucson. Ordered wagyu ribeye and it was similar to a sizzler steak"

  • "Been their numerous times, and without fail, there's something wrong with at least one of the items we order. This time the risotto was far too undercooked, and to boot, it came out looking like something my 7 year old slopped onto a plate... nearly running over the sides. We had a bit of the ham leftover from appetizer, and asked for it to go. Once we got home, came to realize they neglected to include the ham. Personnel turnover seems abundant. As a result, waitress had to keep going back and forth to ask the chef about menu items. Overall, for a place that's been open for about a year, they've still not been able to iron out the wrinkles, and the place still stalls and sputters along, rather than running like a well-oiled machine."

  • "Enjoyed being in the beautiful restaurant. Service was excellent. Food was very average so quite overpriced. I had a Caesar salad which was 3 romane leafs sprinkled with dressing and croutons. Weird and not very good. Prime New York arrived cooked medium vs. the medium rare I ordered. My wife stayed with the appetizer menu and was much happier. We will go back but only very occasionally. "

  • "I entertained some very important clients with a dinner there. Kind of expensive but more than worth it. Service is best in Tucson and their food and presentation is "big city"."

  • "First experience at Five Palms. We dined in the Restuarant. Great personal service. Very comfortable. Never felt rushed like some "get them in, get them out" restaurants in Tucson. As far as our dinner......the best we (party of four) have experienced in Tucson in a very long time. Prices are high, but the unequaled dining experience made it a value. We will be back."

  • "Went on our wedding anniversary. Very high end prices, but the food is delicious. Prices weren't higher than any 5 star restaurant I've been to in Tucson, though. Very cool atmosphere, nice setting, good mountain views. And the violin player was great."

  • "I enjoyed the decor of the Resturant. The waitress in the bar area provided excellent customer service. She was friendly and professional. The happy hour portions were a great price and offered a variety to select from. One dish wasn't good, the tenderloin gravy had too much vinegar in the sauce and we could not eat it, but the waitress promptly offered another dish. The lobster bisque wasn't the best either. Overall I would return to try the fine dinning for special occasion and try other dishes on the menu. The view was the best. In addition, the hostess was very friendly and professional."

  • "A great place, great food. The wine selection required a walk to their in house store, rather than a list, a little weird but great selection. Excellent food."

  • "After a long Ohio winter, our family of 4 had reservations for the downstairs dining room which was beautiful and had a roving violinist. But the draw of sitting outside on the rooftop dining area and watching the sunset was too much. We quickly headed upstairs. We enjoyed the sunset experience so much that we came back the following night for a repeat dinner. The wait staff was friendly and the manager was really welcoming. She spent a lot of time talking with us about the area. We tried lots of different menu items. Mediterranean assortment and shrimp cocktail appetizers were very good. Salmon and sea bass dishes good. NY strip good. Petit filet was not as expected. Medallions with Bordeaux sauce instead of plain meat (picky eater)."

  • "I had a special steak and lobster entree and I was perfect. The steak melted in your mouth the lobster was like I've never had. I can only recommend Az five palms. It took them awhile to get some issues corrected but it's worth a second look."

  • "I loved the violin player. It was so relaxing wasn't too loud. Just wonderful. My steak could be cut with only a knife. The dinner was so excellent. Wait staff was incredible and very engaging. I will be going back for sure."

  • "Decided to have a nice elegant dinner out for our 17th wedding anniversary. I don't think we could have picked a better place. The ambiance was perfect with a violinist, low lighting and beautiful atmosphere! The food was outstanding! We started the evening with the Coquilles St. Jacques appetizer. It was seriously amazing!!! For dinner, my husband got the Ribeye and I the Prime Rib, both were equally fantastic and went well with a glass of Malbec. Overall a wonderful experience and we will definitely be back....hopefully before our next anniversary!! Thank you, Five Palms!"

  • "This is a place that prides itself on old world charm and service, which is rare in Tucson. The staff was excellent, the steaks were perfectly prepared and the violinist in the background was very nice (not too loud at all as far as we were concerned). We will definitely be back!"

  • "We dined for the first time here on our anniversary. My pork belly appetizer was one of the best I've ever had; it was actually too large, leaving less room for my main. My prime rib main was also very good, though they did not offer a rare temperature, which is what I desired. The green beans accompanying the main were advertised as haricot verte, but were actually just regular green beans. I substituted a dry, baked potato for the mashed potatoes, but they served me a buttered one. Fortunately they quickly replaced it. I had no room for dessert but desired an espresso coffee, which they didn't have. They also lacked specialty cocktails, which are de rigueur now at upscale restaurants, and had few (though good) wines by the glass."

  • "We decided to go for the first time, since we had a OpenTable cheque, and I read reviews that it was pricey. It was that, however, we thought it was very good. I got the halibut and liked the idea that I could have it prepared one of three different ways. Also liked the idea of the wine shop where you could buy a bottle of wine (without a corkage fee) and drink it at your table. We will be back, but will probably try the happy hour."

  • "Fish was overcooked. Far Too much salt in the dish, Baked potato was excellent. Service was excellent, except we felt they were hovering and watching each bite we took. The decor is rather pretentious."

  • "Excellent in every way. Great addtion to the Tucson dining scene. A little pricey but worth it. Great Happy Hour. My new favorite. One note: I don't get Open Table credits in Tucson, why not?"

  • "We have dined at Five Palms several times since it opened last year. It has always lived up to our high expectations. While the entrees are a bit pricey by Tucson standards, we save so much on the wine that we always feel we got good value. Wine is sold at retail in their adjoining shop. Having picked out a bottle, we are then seated, and the bottle is brought to the table and served. This time I had the veal porterhouse and my wife had the small filet. These were preceded by the scallop appetizer and the wedge salads. All were prepared to perfection and accompanied by the usual great service. For the wine we chose a 2010 Quintessa red blend from Napa which not only went well with the beef but also with the salad."
