Diner Reviews
  • "We have been going to Five Palms each time we come to Maui spanning about 20 years. It is a lovely beach spot with great food! Memorable Creme Brûlée in pineapple. I have to have it every time!!! They have friendly efficient servers and a creative chef. Very fresh fish. We have enjoyed both lunch and dinner there. We will come back. Both to Maui and to Five Palms."

  • "3 of us thoroughly enjoyed the service and ambiance at this waterside restaurant recommended by a local. The trio of fish on the menu was terrific but the ribs were served lukewarm and overpowered by the sauce. However inventive drinks , friendly service and a lovely setting all contributed to a happy evening."

  • "We enjoyed a beautiful sunset dinner on the patio. Our dinner was delicious and perfectly cooked. We'll be back. Thank you"

  • "We had a table for 5. My wife asked the waiter if the spare ribs were beef or pork and he said beef, so she ordered them-they were pork! She does not eat pork. I asked for my fish to be well done -dry-and it arrived completely underdone for my taste. By the time they had fixed this all the rest of the party had finished their meals and I had "gone past it". It ruined what was supposed to be a special evening with my wife's brother and sister-in-law and mother before they flew back to Australia. 5 palms had always been excellent for breakfast and lunch before but it was the first time we had gone for dinner-and we won't go back for dinner again. They took our meals off the bill but that really wasn't the point......"

  • "My group of 6 ate dinner here for a night before a wedding dinner and it was wonderful. The view was fantastic and food even better. The service was outstanding, I would highly recommend eating here if in the area!"

  • "We had an early dinner (5:30) there on a windy afternoon in March and ate on the patio, Fortunately, the patio was protected from the wind. The view was amazing. Our waiter was terrific as was the food and the prices were reasonable. By 6, the place was packed so clearly it pays to come early - we had the best view table in the house. I would definitely come again."

  • "One of the best locations in Maui, the food was good, except my kids didn't like their food much. I like the fact you get %20 discount if you stay at Days Inn , since the food a little bit pricey ... But overall it's great place and would love to come back again."

  • "We love Five Palms ! Great food, beautiful setting & good service. The sesame encrusted Ahi was cooked to perfection. I had the prawn & scallop dinner served with corn risotto. I highly recommend it . For dessert we shared the cheesecake. It's a generous portion & enough for two. When you make your reservation ask for outdoor seating so you can enjoy the beautiful sunset. I suggest that you be there by 5:15 P.M."

  • "We have dined at Five Palms on more than four other trips to Maui and have always found their food to be very good. This, coupled with a great sunset view, has always brought us back. This time, however, while the food was still pretty good, the service was terrible. We waited 15 minutes before they took our order, and then waited no less than 25 minutes between courses. They seemed to be more focused on the Happy Hour crowd and a rehearsal dinner party than any of the other couples dining in the restaurant. Add to this an extremely hot dining room and it made for a very long evening. A 6:30 PM reservation ended well after 9:00 PM."

  • "Always a treat going to the Five Palms for brunch or dinner."

  • "We ate outdoors. It was lightly raining but there were enough umbrellas to cover us and the tables. The weather was not a problem. The ocean view and lighting were very romantic. Good food and friendly atmosphere. We had cocktails which were excellent (we did have to ask for lemon twists). We have eaten both lunch and dinner here. We have family members who live here and take clients here on a regular basis. We highly recommend it."

  • "Tuesday, March 18 The staff is not trained well. We experienced this from the hostess making us wait when we had reservations, waitress who did not know what was available at the bar, did not explain the special for the evening and was not attentive. The bus boy reaches across the table to get my plate instead of walking around the table to collect the dish. The good new is the food was very good but my fish was not hot upon arrival. This is not the first time we have had bad service."

  • "Loved our dinner at Five Palms the other evening. We had a large party and everyone enjoyed their meal - from sushi to ribs to fresh fish. Service was friendly and gracious. Five Palms, Wailea is No Ka Oi."

  • "We went out as a treat while we were on vacation. We ordered from the Sunset Menu (order must be in by 5:45 pm and you must request the menu; it is not offered). We had a salad, choice of meat, fish or chicken (we had fish) and lilokoi cheesecake for $35 per person. It was a delicious meal, served quickly but not rushed. We enjoyed the sunset with a view from the table. We'll definitely be back."

  • "An absolutely beautiful view on the beach with palm trees and the lapping of the ocean. An excellent brunch at reasonable prices for what you get. Also a beautiful, romantic place for a sunset dinner, although pricey."

  • "Great view, provides a super atmosphere. Food runs from between good and very good."

  • "On the beach, this is a romantic gem with a fast ocean view. We love this place for romantic dinners as well as group dinners. We've been back many times and the food and service is always impeccable. See you soon!"

  • "Great food, great service, and fantastic view! A bit pricey but well worth it. We watched the sunset from our table and also could see whales. I would recommend this restaurant. Reservations would be helpful if going at a peak time. Manager also was walking around to see how things were. Very friendly."

  • "The best time to enjoy the Five Palms is for their Happy Hour. Dinner service is never consistent. The wait staff is very nice but they can't make up for the kitchen. Beautiful setting. We keep trying over the years but still remain disappointed."

  • "Get there before they run out! Was looking forward to the fresh catch of the day, unfortunately they ran out. They did have the snapper that was done to perfection! My next reservation will be for 6:00 so we can catch the sunset!"

  • "This was our second visit. This place is pricy but you get very good service and excellent views if you visit during the daylight hours. After sunset the views are gone. They do have a great Happy Hour that extends into the evening and is mostly an outside setting. Prices are much more reasonable but the chooses are mostly bar food entrees. Our first visit last year we thought the food was fabulous. This year it was good. Perhaps our choices of entrees made the difference or we were just in different moods. Lovely place by the ocean and we still think the best ocean view place in Maui."

  • "Booked this restaurant based on recommendations of a local friend; he noted service is questionable, but food and view is incredible. I'd say he was pretty spot on - food was good to great depending upon the item; view is incredible; service is questionable - two examples: (i) had to wait 10 minutes for drinks; and (ii) plates served, then a few minutes later the waitress came by to quickly check on quality; then immediately disappeared and did not see her again until plates were cleared and dessert menus delivered."

  • "I cannot say enough good things about Five Palms in Kihei! I absolutely love the ambience and the food! The coolest part about watching the sun set from the dinner table is when the conch shells blows signaling the sun is now setting. All eyes look towards the horizon. It's magical. Then when dinner arrives, it's heaven on a plate. Mahalo for an exceptional dinner."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at the 5 Palms Grill, from the delectable meals to the fantastic desserts and to the tasty drinks! The view is spectacular and we were lucky enough to enjoy a spectacular sunset that evening."

  • "So we chose this restaurant for our final lunch in Maui based on its sushi menu...only to find out they don't serve their sushi menu for lunch! At any rate, the waitress was delightful and lunch was fine. The fish was good, just not what we were anticipating. Can't beat the beautiful view of Wailea beach and the whales cavorting in the ocean!"

  • "Not quite on the beach but 5 feet and you are in the sand. Great ocean and sunset views and wonderful food. Deserts are out of sight. On previous visits we have had great service. Not this visit. While friendly, service was very slow. Coffee was not even offered with desert. It was a busy Friday night but even still. We would return because other visits have been wonderful in all respects."

  • "For our wedding in 2012, we selected Five Palms for the location of our reception. Because of this, we felt it was very fitting to go here for a Vday dinner. We were promptly lead to a table overlooking the ocean for a magnificent view of the sunset and whales jumping in the background. Our server was very friendly however he took a fair amount of time to greet us upon being seated. We opted to have the wine pairings with dinner. The down side to this was that the wine arrived half-way through the course which did not allow for a true "pairing". Dinner itself was delicious with lots of flavour and great presentation! Overall we were very happy with dinner and would not hesitate to go back!!"

  • "The prices are actually quite high if you simply order off the menu, however, when you get the best steak of your life, then you don't really mind paying the $45. Also, the "sunset special" is well worth it! For $39 (i think) you get a salad, entre, and dessert. All were exceptionally delicious! When the sun sets, the conch shells blows and all eyes and cameras are turned to the sun. A beautiful experience and i would definitely go back."

  • "The el fresco dining cannot be beat! The seating and ambiance is magical, suiting Maui at it"s best. The food is quite good and creative, including the crispy whole snapper. The view at Sarrento's is nicer and more beach side, but the food here is better and less expensive. Sarrento's also has a better wine list, but nothing is wanting at 5 plams. A great dining experience and a definite for repeat visit."

  • "Has one of the best views on the water/beach line. Unfortunately, indoors, the service was so-so. We had to move our plates away twice before someone came by to remove them? We'd recommend going for lunch and outside."

  • "5 Palms turns out well prepared meals in a location that offers great sunset views. Checking in can be hectic since they have two stations (one for reservations & one without). A crowd forms at the first station which has no signage to direct diners with reservations to the second check-in, so you can wait in line to be told to get in line again at the next one. Minor hassle. The menu features a lot of local ingredients & seafood. There is also a popular sushi menu. The wine list is heavy on California. The inside dining areas can get loud."

  • "Lovely beach front hotel restaurant. The food was fair at best. Service was overwhelmed. Really really not worth it. Perhaps it was special in the day but not anymore."

  • "We a wonderful meal at 5 palms on Valentines Day. The food was fantastic with a wonderful view of the ocean, unfortunately due to the cloud cover sunset was not what we had hoped for. Amber our server was delight. We will definitely return."

  • "This was at least the fourth time we've eaten at 5 Palms. We had a couple of problems (it was a busy Valentine's Day dinner), but the Director of Operations (the "manager") handled them extremely well and we will return soon. On past visits, I would have rated everything as 5 - Outstanding."

  • "We went to Five Palms on Valetines Day and ordered their 4 course tasting menu. The setting was beautiful and our waitress was very nice, but the food was not worth the $80 tasting menu price. There wasn't anything wrong with our dinner, it just tasted so, so. We have eaten all over the world and live in Vancouver where the restaurant scene is world class. Five Palms charges twice the price for their food because their setting is so nice."

  • "My girlfriend and I were seated at 8:15 ordered dinner at 8:30 and did not receive our appetizer until 9:20 and our dinner until 9:40, the service was very slow and for the price you can get much better food in that part of the island. The lighting was very dark and the inside of the restaurant looked like it could use a good scrubbing."

  • "Five Palms is one of the best restaurants in South Maui. It has a great location on Keawakapu Beach, with great ocean views, especially at sunset. The menu is innovative, and the service is flawless. Five Palms is a wonderful place to celebrate the end of another perfect day in paradise!"
