  • "We hadn't been to Five Crowns in a few years, and noticed a few changes. Missed seeing the "period" dress of the service staff. The food and service was excellent, and we appreciated being able to split meals for a service charge. The chocolate souffle was excellent, and the recognition of my Mom's birthday was special. I had not received a confirmation from Open Table for the online reservation I made, but was very impressed with the management's call from Five Crowns confirming that they received my email and making sure that we did have our reservation."

  • " (The SideDoor pub was a better experience than 5 Crowns as the service, appetizers, drinks and ambiance were all very nice.) We were seated at a two person table beside a pillar. My husband had a partial view of the fireplace and I had a view of the waiters/guests. The guests at the table behind me were uncomfortably loud. The ambiance was zero. The service was just average. Wine by the glass was limited, the wedge salad was warm and limp, the onion soup was served in a white cereal bowl, the lobster and prime rib were both fine ( a small request about the meat was denied). Really not nearly as good a dining experience as we have had for years at Lawry's or Tam O' Shanter."

  • "We have been going to five crown's for years and love the ambience. The food has gotten better, but the quality of meat is not up to par with Morton's are Flemming's. Still needs some improving on some minor issue's. I had ordered the bone in rib eye and it was still tough to chew. May choice vs prime ? Also the dessert menu is not what it used to be only one soufflé choice."

  • "My wife and I attended this restaurant in 1969, shortly after college and our wedding. Not surprisingly, nothing has changed and the intervening period and this only reinforces my belief this type of experience is passé, at least for me. I was bored and felt disappointed after finishing, wondering why we chose to return!"

  • "I booked a table for 6, but arrived with 9 people. The place was virtually empty, but the front desk host was INCREDIBLY rude and angry at the party size increase. All they did was add three place settings to the very same table originally laid out for 6 people. Waitress was cool, which made up for the poor reception. Food was ok, but not real pub food. I wouldn't go back or recommend this place"

  • "Read about this restaurant on trip advisor and it lived up to its reputation. We were greeted properly and seated immadeately. Then the waitress came right over and took a drink order. The mojito was good the cosmopolitans was bitter, think they forgot something. We were here for the food anyway. For apps we had the lobster bisque which was spicy but very good. They use a little chili oil. Another great appetizer was the kale Caesar salad. Different and so tasty. Was not bitter like a lot of kale. The fried artichoke was excellent as well as onion soup. For dinner we had the prime rib. Both were great. My wife had the chicken juderi which was very tender and butter tasting. They cook it with a birch on top to crisp and keep juices in it."

  • "Great dinner again at Five Crowns. Our waitress/server was friendly, fun, but the service was slow and I hear another patron complain that it took 20 min for one plate to appear, after the other 3 people were served. We waited a long time, but since we were in the outside room and it was so romantic, I didn't mind the long waits between courses, refills, etc. but my husband did. the food was great! We went for the $99 special and it was so good, we are going again next Saturday with our friends. Loved the experience overall."

  • "We used to go to the Five Crowns on a regular basis, but since they changed the menu, & wine list, we only go there now for the prime rib. Even it has changed in portion sizes, which are now cut thinner, no matter what size you order. I ordered the smallest, my husband ordered the second to the largest and the major difference was his came with a bone and mine did not. It is still a nice restaurant, and the food is good, just not as special as it used to be."

  • "The Five Crowns is still one of the best restaurants in Orange County. Every bit as good if not better than the Tam O'Shanter, her sister restaurant in the Lawry's chain. The food was the best. Great salads and wonderful prime rib cut the way my wife and I like it. The surroundings were absolutely wonderful and the service was the best. Our server went out of his way to make our anniversary celebration the best ever. This restaurant remains one of our favorites!!"

But this evening, my husband's piece was without a bone, and more towards the fatty side; and mine had a bone, but was the skinniest slice I have ever had, almost sandwich slice thin, so thin I do not know how they could have cut it with a knife and not still stay in one piece. Guess we better make sure we get there during more normal hours..."

First impressions do make a difference, when we walked in we not not greeted at all by the hostess,never asked anything, so after 5 mins we had to ask "hello" to which the response was "what do you need". Kinda made the rest of the night a bummer."

This year was our 49th Anniversary and we both decided there was no better place to celebrate that at this beautiful restaurant. Our 12 years old grandson joined us and he loved it, also.   • "The atmosphere was nice but the prime rib was a major disappointment. It tasted old to the point of borderline spoiled, lacked a beefy taste, was mushy, and not very tender. The mashed potato was bland and no baked potato was served. The busboy was good but the waiter was disengaged. He didn't bring out the wine glasses and we had to remind him to serve bread. His remembering to bring a birthday desert for my mother saved the service from getting a one-star rating. On positive note, the hangar steak was excellent and the French onion soup and bread (notably the squaw bread) were quite good. For a restaurant long known for its prime rib, what they served was not good. Until they improve the prime rib, I cannot recommend this restaurant."

  • "On the positive. Service was fantastic, server and busser were both great. Sat outside which was nice. However, the food was not great. Not at all. Had wanted to visit here for years and we had family in town tonight so we thought this was a great chance to show them a legend close by. I am embarrassed we did. Steaks were tough and overall the food just was not up to par. Maybe being a holiday weekend they had the B team in the kitchen. Not sure, but not likely to return."
