Diner Reviews
  • "It's a great hidden gem in Kennesaw for sure. We especially liked the calamari, lettuce wraps, and the lamb. The fish tacos and ahi tuna were ok but not our favorites. Service was excellent as well! Will definitely return."

  • "It is a hidden gem since it's tucked away between a sports bar and a sushi restaurant. The ambiance is upscale and the small plates are delicious- a bit over priced for small plates though. They have half price bottles of wines on Wednesdays and half off glasses of wine for ladies on Saturdays. They also have hookah and live music on Saturdays. I've been there quite a bit since I discovered it and will plan to continue to go back. I'm only concerned that the word will get out about this place and it will get too busy!"

  • "We chose Five 40 Kitchen & Social House just to try something new, and were very impressed overall. The servers, food, drinks and live music were all enjoyable. We ordered 10 different plates and enjoyed them all. The music wasn't too loud, and the servers were very professional. They have a good thing going here and we'll be back, and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a tapas dining experience with a casual atmosphere. Well done!"

  • "My wife and I were excited to eat here. When we arrived, the hostess did not smile or greet us and spent quite a bit of time trying to find our OT reservation on her iPad. Then she sat us at a table right in the middle of the restaurant even though every other patron was around the edges of the restaurant in cozier booth/table seating. We felt like we were on display. This was accentuated by the fact that the lights in this place are pointed right into the eyes of the diners, not down onto the tables. Truly ruins the ambiance. It was also about 50 degrees in the restaurant. We were freezing. I then spotted a long black hair, fingerprints and eyelash on my bread plate. That was the straw. We went to On the Border instead."

  • "This was a first time visit. Found Five 40 on open table searching for something different. Wait staff were very friendly and helpful. specials were excellent. Really enjoyed the live music, that was an added bonus. Overall a great experience. We will be back!"

  • "I was not at all impressed. We were the only customers for lunch until a man and his son came in and sat at the bar. We selected the bacon rapped dates which had the bacon burned and the date mush. There were four of those in an order. A friend ordered fish taco and there were two and only chips of fish with no taste and no sauces, but just lettuce. Another person ordered garlic shrimp which were actually good, surprised - we ordered a second order of those. We tried the riblets which were almost not fit to eat with so much fat. We ordered calamari which came in a bowl with some kind of wilted greens underneath and were at best ok but served in a sauce which did not add a thing. None of us would go back."

  • "My wife and I tried five 40 and it was a good tapas restaurant but it is in a hard to find location. It's too bad they are off the beaten track because in the right location and a little better menu I would predict this to be a big success"

  • "Loved the food and drink list. Great place to go on a date or to try new foods. Had live music that helped create a romantic environment. Only downside was the industrial style ceiling and lighting didn't create the type of glow you would expect on a date. Outside that the service was great, the food came out fast and the wine specials were delicious."

  • "We ordered the Chicken and Waffles and the Pork Shank. Both tapas dishes were excellent. I would recommend this place to others."

  • "Loved this place! All good food & drink. I had the red Sangria which was very refreshing. Loved the dash of cloves. My friends & I had 6 different plates....all were delicious. Staff were attentive, polite & knowledgeable. Can't wait to go again."

  • "The wait staff was very attentive and one of ther servers even remembered us from last time we were there. I gave the food 4 out of 5 stars because the cheese dip was runny and tasted like there was no cheese it in. However, that being said, the rest if the dishes we ordered were very enjoyable and delicious. We'll be going back, just no cheese dip next time!"

  • "We happened to come across this on a Saturday afternoon. The food was all great. We had a number of the Tapa selections and will be back to try more. Decent selection of wines by the glass and the beer selections were good as well. If you are looking for a sports bar, this is not the scene, but you are looking to have some featured time with friends, family or a date, I highly recommend this. It may be tucked away in a strip mall, but once inside you could be anywhere. The wait staff was all great."

  • "Went there on a weeknight to meet some girlfriends and the food was great. Ambiance was cozy, and the staff was very friendly. There weren't a lot of people there, so I hope it does get more momentum. The fried goat cheese was excellent, wish they gave you you 5 instead of 4. :-)"

  • "Nice variety on menu. Generous portions for Tapas. Good service. Nice wine and beer selection. We've been here twice, both times were out of items (switching to a new seasonal menu) but didn't tell us beforehand. Not a problem but I thought they should have told us before we ordered the unavailable items. If you go, you'll forget you're in a Kennesaw strip mall. Refreshing for the area!"

  • "My girlfriends and I had dinner here before going to a movie. We all ordered different tapas and shared. Our group favorites were the Ceviche, Fried Goat Cheese, Bacon Wrapped Dates and the Yuca Fries (I know I'm missing one or two). The drinks were delicious. We will definitely return when we have more time to relax and listen to the live music."

  • "We found Five 40 at the Taste of Marietta and loved their smoked gouda mac & cheese. We decided to go there with a group of friends and really enjoyed the food and ambience! Our favorites were the smoked gouda mac & cheese and bacon wrapped dates. The service was excellent. We will definitely recommend this place to others and will be back."

  • "My husband and two kids - 2nd and 3rd grades - took me here for Mother's Day. It didn't look like much from the outside of this strip mall, but it really was lovely inside and the food was great. We ordered about 7 tapas and we all loved them - including our two picky boys! Their faves: the smoked gouda mac-n-cheese and the bacon wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese. The Thai lettuce wraps were also good, and I love that they serve their Moscow Mules in a copper mug. The service was a bit slow, but overall we were very happy and will definitely be back."

  • "This was my second time at Five 40. Overall the experience was great. We ordered a lot of food so some of it came out a little late, but we still enjoyed every bite. Great service, great food and a great time!"

  • "The location doesn't imply a unique dining experience but the ambiance inside is fine. Very little business on a Thursday evening. The tapas are quite good and the service is excellent. Have eaten here twice and enjoyed both times. Tapas restaurants are few and far between and this is a keeper. "

  • "Tried this on a whim, and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was very good, and it was fun being able to order the variety of small plates. Prices are very agreeable, and the ser4vice was very nice. Friendly staff and atmosphere."

  • "The food was great! The service was not so great. We were one of two guests during sunday brunch and just getting a water took forever! I am assuming they had light staff due to new opening? I hope so, the food is good and we need more local joints like that in the northern burbs. I am a foodie and just moved from Buckhead. I will try them again and hope to get better service."

  • "My husband and I love this place! The fantastic food and live entertainment are both a welcomed addition to the number of large chain restaurants in our area! Not to mention that it's a short drive from our home!!! We have visited the restaurant twice and both times we were very pleased with our experienced! I hope that the community continues to support this rare find and that it will be around for many years to come."

  • "Had dinner here on 2/28/14 with our granddaughters and had 6 different small plates and they were all terrific and would highly recommend this great restaurant.Cannot wait to return to try some different small plates."

  • "Great service, cool atmosphere, and overall tasty food. Would return for sure. Only minor dislike was the crimini mushroom small plate. They were watery on the inside and not much flavor. The sauce however, was wonderful. We even ate it on the calamari, which was better than the sauce that came with. Mac and cheese and fried goat cheese were our favorites."

  • "Always love the variety of food that I get here. Everything is wonderful from the deviled eggs to the meatballs. The owner walks around and even works behind the bar sometimes. Great atmosphere for sure, live music with DJ after. Hookas after 10pm."

  • "This restaurant exceeds expectations! The tapas dishes are uniformly delicious, and the service and attention to detail is top-notch. The bar is a fun section of the restaurant and offers a variety of cocktails and tasteful, lively live music."

  • "The food was good as was the service. Good band playing but it isn't a large building so it was impossible to hear anything said across the table even though the place was only half full when we arrived. Waitress didn't know much about the menu even though she claimed she had worked there for a while. She was attentive whenever we finished a plate which didn't take long because the plates are incredibly small portions. We had gone for Valentine's Day and I wouldn't recommend it as a romantic spot. I don't expect to see Clark Howard there anytime soon as the cost per bite is pretty high. Still, if you want to go hand out at the bar and listen to some quality music it would be a good night out."

  • "We came in early on Sunday evening, and they were not very busy. We didn't realize it was a Hookah place until we got in and smelled it, it wasn't strong, so we stuck around. Service was prompt and they kept up with refills and such. The food was good, but the only two dishes that stood out were the Chorizo Cheese Dip, and the Smoked Gouda Mac-n-cheese (which could have used a little salt). Even Though it was tapas, I felt the plates were too small to share. The dish prices were decent, but again, would have preferred a little more food on each plate. They have a bar serving beer, wine, and mixed drinks, but they were over-priced, so I skipped it. I will be happy to go back and give it a second chance."

  • "It's in a strip mall so the location and feel is low budget. There was a guitar player doing some covers. There was a smoke smell inside. There are a couple dozen wines between $25-45 and then the list jumps to $100 plus. So, not a lot of in-between wines. The food was OK. The stuffed mushrooms stuffed with stove top stuffing and a dab of what seemed like almost re-heated turkey gravy. They tasted good, but it was definitely stove top. We've had deviled eggs at a few different places recently and these were really fresh, but on par with what you would get at Kroger, not a restaurant where they tend to be a bit more unique or gourmet. We enjoyed it, but it was just OK. Not sure if we'd go back or not but I'm glad we checked it out."

  • "Five 40 was ok, not special- limited menu, small portions for tapas, good wine. Unfortunately, the smell of cigarette smoke supposedly from next door was so significant it ruined the experience."
