"There seemed to be some confusion in the kitchen, as our group of three were first told that our menu selection (we all ordered wild mushroom crepes) was unavailable (along with two other items, about which we had been notified when being seated; they must have forgotten to go to the market), and then that two portions had been "found," and we could have them after all. We switched back, unfortunately. The mushroom crepes shared almost a mushroom among them, and the salad was a bit gritty. The third member of our party enjoyed her biscuits and gravy very much."

"This is an amazing find for a restaurant in downtown Berkeley--or for anywhere. The food is fantastic, beautifully presented and served in great style. I ordered the risotto and the serving was so abundant that I brought the rest home. I had it the next day for lunch and it was equally delicious. Try this restaurant. You won't be at all disappointed. In fact you will leave planning your next opportunity to dine here."

"Five deserves the praise for its food and ambience, and is certainly far above most hotel dining areas. But the waitstaff we experienced knew little about service and seemed to have had no professional training. The nightly "prix fixe" dinner was sold out by 7:30, though we were not told this until our first courses started to arrive. The halibut was outstanding, the cocktails from the bar imaginative and well-executed. If you're staying at the hotel or in the area, its a fine choice."

"Love 5! Been here many times and am always thrilled with food and service. I highly recommend you start in the bar with a signature Basil Gimlet paired with the house made soft pretzels which are served with a smoked Gouda fondue. If you have a few in your party, add the popcorn shrimp and dip those in the mustard that accompanies the pretzels. You, too will be in love. As for dinner, the starters are always good and their soups are superb. I often have a soup and a salad just because they are so good. But then you might miss something as heavenly as halibut served with caramelized cauliflower. Seriously, it's sinful! Now save room, cause if you leave without trying the butterscotch pudding you are just foolish. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!"

"I have gone to Five for everything from brunch, lunch, tapas, and drinks. I am always blown away by the food, the friendly and helpful service, and the interesting and creative drinks. Plus, the decor is very modern and gorgeous. If you're looking for an interesting atmosphere or a place to show hip you are to your date or out of town visitors, this is it!"
