Diner Reviews
  • "Very expensive & tapas tiny & not that great, calamari was over battered, like chewy onion rings. "

  • "We went to FishBar on a late Friday night and unfortunately we were not impressed with any of the oysters we had ordered. We order the Rockefeller and about 6 Nova Scotia Oysters. Pretty much the majority of the Oysters had large pieces of the oyster shells in them. We actually could not eat the remaining 2 oysters as they all had such large pieces of broken shell in them...When the manager asked us why we were finishing the last 2 oysters. I had told him that the majority of the oysters had shells broken into them making it not as enjoyable to eat them, He apologised about it..for a Friday night this place closes early. Staff was already folding napkins and locking the door at 11:00pm. I would give this place another try, not anytime soon."

  • "Fishbar's portions are not big but the food is delicious and the service attentive. The portions are designed to be shared and that you have a whole selection of them. If you are not a fish fan there is not much of any alternatives on the menu but if you are then go for it. Lovely way to give my girl a great birthday dinner as she is a fish fan."

  • "We ordered four small plates for two diners: seaweed salad, Nori-salted fries, grilled Spanish octopus and grilled calamari. The first three were, in a word, delicious. I'd order any or all of them on a second visit. The last, alas, was something of a disappointment ... a little gummy/slimy, not grilled long enough, etc. Not enough to spoil the meal, but enough to temper an otherwise wonderful experience."

  • "The food was 7 out of 10. I was very surprised that several of our raw oysters came with long, sharp chards of shell underneath the oysters. I almost swallowed one. If that happened I would have ended up in emergency. They were so sharp they could have cut through the esophagus or stomach. Our waitress brought out 2 more oysters on the house. Wouldn't you know one of those also had a large, sharp chard underneath the oyster. I eat oysters regularly & have never had this kind of experience. Until they find someone who can properly shuck, I would never order them there again nor would recommend them to patrons. The waitress then brought us a dessert on the house. Afterwards I realized they had charged us for it on our bill..how insulting!"

  • "4 plates were chosen and all arrived at same time disallowing the "sharing" approach promoted on the web page. We felt rushed to move us along and free up the table. Food was OK"

  • "Fishbar is long and narrow so there's not much space for standing or walking past servers and other patrons and the seating is mainly one long table, family style with splits between. I enjoyed the arugula salad. Oysters were presented beautifully although sauces were not as tasty as preferred. I looked at the menu before reserving and saw good menu items but not extensive, and prices looked very reasonable, however it was deceiving. They were correct, but… the mains are more of a tapas meant to be shared by 2, so we each ordered 2 mains plus an extra order of fries. With one bottle of Malbec at $44, 2 manhattans $11ea and 2 yummy panna cotta's our bill came to $249 plus tip. Our server was perfect, thanks."

  • "Great food, knowledgeable service, and relaxed atmosphere made a lovely dinner."

  • "The food was tasty enough, but the menu was unadventurous. Service was a bit slow, but friendly. One of the few place on Ossington that takes reservations though, to that's a plus."

  • "This is about the 4th time I've been to this restaurant, and it was great as always. Love the sharing menu, and the seafood is perfectly prepared. Only complaints are that I wish they'd alter up the menu a little more (I think I have literally tried everything on it) and to slow down the arrival of the food - hard to balance four plates on those tables! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place."

  • "Loved the family-style, tapas, menu and our waiter was nice. but dishes took forever to come out and with really large waiting times between each dish arriving. When the food finally did arrive it tasted pretty good, but some of the portions were ridiculously small (6 mussels in an order)."

  • "friendly and knowledgable service, and great food. the grilled octopus and the fried clams were my favourite! will return"

  • "An outstanding experience. Friendly service, great seafood. We will return each time we are in Toronto."

  • "It was a great and awesome experience. Would love to go back...food is amazing."

  • "Fully enjoyed every one of 4 tapas (mussels, lobster mac-cheese, mahi mahi tacos and smelt), not to mention a good selection of oysters to start the evening. All in all, it was a perfect valentines day. Will definitely be back"

  • "We went for Valentine's and enjoyed it. It can get pricey so be careful."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "The food was fantastic and reasonably priced. We ordered five dishes and a few oysters to share between two people, which was probably a bit more than enough but well worth it. The downside was extremely slow service. For example, it took half an hour and more than one request just to get the bill after we were finished - around 2.5 hours overall. Granted it was Valentine's Day but still too slow with that in mind. The service was friendly though, and we would return."

  • "This was an exceptional dining experience. Each dish was fabulous and paired with a bottle of Malbec the meal was perfect. I especially loved the grilled octopus and the spicy diablo shrimps, those are a must."

  • "While the food was okay and the seafood definitely tasted fresh, we felt it was too little food for the price. We ordered the oysters, lobster roll ($15 for two very small ones), grilled calamari and the fish and chips. The only dishes I really enjoyed were the fish and chips and the lobster rolls. We paid around 70$ for two people with no drinks which for the quantity of food I felt was too much. Our server was really nice and helpful and we had no complaints about the service, ambience etc. Overall we had a good experience but I wouldn't go back."

  • "Fantastic food, great service with very knowledgeable staff. Nice simple interior decoration but warm. As it is tapas type portions great for sharing."

  • "The Staff was extremely friendly, and if you like fresh fish the food was amazing (a lot to choose from) Booked another night out at Fishbar that evening!"

  • "Wonderful food and experience, I would highly recommend this restaraunt to seafood lovers! The staff is outgoing, friendly and attentive, willing to put in the effort and time to make patrons feel welcome. The ambiance is well done, thw decor is contemporary and trendy."

  • "Over 20 min wait for a table past the confirmed reservation time. A courtesy drink would have been a nice gesture fr the restuarant given the delayed seating."
    Dined on 1/18/2014
  • "I was surprised at the cost of the tapas at this resturant. I would assume if you were paying upwards of $15 for a tapa they would be substantial in size, but that was not the case. Our server was very informative and his recommendations were well received. The bench pad could have been thicker as well."
    Dined on 1/17/2014
  • "Some of the dishes were terrific - tuna carpaccio, grilled octopus, seaweed salad.... but some of them were far too pedestrian & could have been found as pub-fare elsewhere.... calamari, fish & chips, lobster roll (all too greasy, fatty, overbattered)!"
    Dined on 1/18/2014
  • "Great menus if you like fish (well, the place is called "Fishbar") - not many options for vegetarians. Food was fair, but nothing memorable or exceptional (except the B.C. Kushi Oysters). Service was excellent."

  • "Decided to try this restaurant before seeing a show at the LOT. The food was excellent and the staff was very responsive and helped us by telling us their favourite dishes. Wine was perfectly chilled and dinner and dessert were delectable."

  • "We were late, because the symphony ran late , but they delayed our reservation 1/2 hour and we still got a great table by the window. Great oysters, great lobster rolls, nice selection of fish - our second visit and we will be back! Just one reminder.....have the oysters and lobster roll!!! In summary: Great food , great staff, street parking can be found....and there are good shops and theater nearby!"

  • "We came here for a Christmas gathering. We had: - fishbar taco - oyster rockerfeller - crispy calamari - lobster mac & cheese - fish & chips - gauva creme brulee The amount was enough for 3 girls but then food was alright. The best dish we had was the Oyster Rockerfeller - it was most tasteful and different compared to the other places we had this dish. Everything else was good, we'd imagine the lobster mac & cheese to be more tasteful! However, I would not suggest the gauva creme brulee, the sugar on the top was wayyy to thick which took away from the actual creme brulee taste. It was a bit disappointing but I would definitely come back for small snack and drinks!"

  • "Service was ok but got the impression they weren't so interested after they realized we weren't going to drink a lot. Food was good but I've had fresher fish at a cheap sushi place. There are better places on the Ossington strip."

  • "Fishbar serves very good, mainly seafood inspired, tapas. Wait staff are very friendly, ambiance is warm industrial cool. Food delivery is erratic. We asked to have them pace it. Oysters first, cold taps second hot ones last. Well if wasn't all at our table in 20 minutes. It's a Saturday night, the place was only 3/4 full (VERY SNOWY NIGHT), and we could have been in and out in 60 min. I don't know, I can go to a diner if that's what I'm looking for. So while I would go back. I would definitely pace my ordering so that I'm in control and not the kitchen. So a qualified thumbs up."

  • "I took my boyfriend to Fishbar to celebrate his birthday on Sunday night. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed. We began with oysters which were quite fresh. We then proceeded to share a number of tapas dishes. All were excellent, particularly the anchovies croustini, grilled sardines, and gnocchi. We ended the meal with coconut gelato. The service was very attentive and well-timed. My only criticism is that the two people serving us did not seem to be communicating with each other. This meant that we were asked twice for many things. I usually appreciate it when a server inquires about my dining experience, but it felt like too much, especially when we were trying to have a romantic dinner for two. Otherwise, absolutely no complaints."

  • "Great fresh seafood in small tapas style plates ideal for sharing with friends. The oysters are a great value at under $2 for malpeques. Also highly recommend the talapia ceviche."

  • "My family of four (all adults) celebrated a birthday together. The tapas style facilitates sharing and tasting different dishes. All the food was fresh and delicious. I had heard good reports about Fishbar, but the food was even better than I expected. Wide range of dishes to try. Special needs (my daughter is vegan plus fish) were easily accomodated. Service was excellent: not overbearing, and always attentive. Atmoshpere and noise level allowed us to talk easily. We ordered a lot of dishes and had a big meal. Too expensive for me to do that often, but it is a great place to eat as a couple and share two or three dishes and wine. I highly reccommmend Fishbar."

  • "We tried a happy hour menu. Oysters, lobster roll, fish taco, arugula salad and home fries were delicious. Portions were just right, presentation uncomplicated and timing impeccable. As anticipated, the restaurant was not busy at 5 so we enjoyed our meal even more thanks to a great service and lovely ambiance. It was exactly what we were looking for on a Friday night before catching some movies at the Royal and we happily recommend it to others. Out total bill with a glass of wine and a beer, taxes and tips included came to $70.00."

  • "One of the best Tapas bar we've been to. Grilled octopus was outstanding and the crispy clams are a must try. Service was great. You don't get one dedicated server; everyone working there was waiting on the tables to keep things moving since the place was very busy. They don't have a great wine selection but BYOB is welcome for a reasonable corkage fee. We will definitely be going back and bringing friends."

  • "If there is something bad on this menu, we didn't find it. As a group of four we tried 9 dishes and a plate of oysters. All were fantastic and we all left full. As some have said, a meal here can be on the pricey side but I found it more than reasonable for the quality and portion size (this is tapas style after all). The bill was about $85 pp incl tax and tip and that also included a great bottle of Pinot Noir. No question we will be back."

  • "Food was average. Our cocktails arrived with our second tapas order. Our server was really great and I liked the atmosphere however I wasn't blown away by the food. The taco was cold and obviously pre-made and refrigerated, mussels was pretty good and the bun for the lobster sandwich was the best part."
